Raymond Stewart Cotton

Raymond Stewart Cotton was born Sept. 1, 1925, and died July 8, 2006. Services for Cotton will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 11, 2006, in the chapel of the Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Bath Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, July 10, 2006, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Randy Alan Malone

Randy Alan Malone was born June 21, 1979, and died July 7, 2006. Services will take place at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July12, 2006, in the Chapel of the Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home. Interment will be held at the Mayes Addition. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 11, 2006, from 5 to 8 p.m.

Susan Ellen Collier

Susan Ellen Collier, 62, passed away on July 9, 2006, in Huntsville. Susan was born on June 21, 1944, to Albert and Martha Huellewig in St. Louis, Mo. Mrs. Collier served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. She was an active member of both the Huntsville Post 95 and the Willis Post 618 of the American Legion holding several official positions. For many years she and Tommy collected teddy bears for children to be donated to the Shriner Burn Institute and the Shriner Children’s Hospital.

Mrs. Collier is survived by her husband Tommy Collier; son and wife, Tim and Cristy Stafford; son and wife, John and Michelle Stafford. Also surviving are grandchildren, Tara Langley, Ashley Stafford, Vanessa Stafford, Steven Stafford and R.J. Stafford; lifelong best friend, Mary Ann Duenke and many other relatives and friends.

Preceding Mrs. Collier in death are her parents; sons Raymond Lee Maas, Jr. and William James Maas; brother Jim Huellewig, and grandson Christopher Stafford.

Funeral services for Mrs. Collier will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 13, 2006 at the Huntsville Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Kirby officiating. Military interment will follow at Brooke Cemetery. Mrs. Collier will lie in state all day Wednesday, July 12, 2006, with the family receiving friends from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday evening at Huntsville Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers will be members of the Willis Post 618 of the American Legion. Honorary pallbearers will be Dean Langford, Jerry Lux, and Gene Anderson.

Memorial condolences may be made to the family at www.mem.com. Services are under the direction of Huntsville Funeral Home.

Althen Niederhofer

Althen Niederhofer was born on Jan. 26, 1924. A life long resident of Walker County, he was the son of John Henry, Sr. and Maude “Ellisor” Niederhofer. Althen began his career with the Soil Conservation Service in 1941. After a short time, he founded Niederhofer Chemical and Feed, which later become Niederhofer Chemical Company, Inc. (NCCI). NCCI remained his foundation business as a regional distribution center for many of the major chemical companies. His chemical expertise with NCCI led to a longtime contracting relationship with the major oil companies such as Exxon, Chevron and Shell. Althen was also a successful rancher and investor. His other endeavors included banking, a travel agency and financing.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Janet Niederhofer of Huntsville, daughter Karon Niederhofer Murff and husband James E. Murff of Huntsville, son Ronald A. Niederhofer of Baytown, granddaughter Sharese and husband Lane Hurst, granddaughter Amanda and husband David Dresen, grandson Blake Niederhofer, great grandsons Braeden Whitecotton and Keegan Hurst, four sisters, Lorene Cooper, Alice Gresham, Pauline Henderson and Mary Harrowing along with numerous nieces, nephews and special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, John Henry Jr., August, Karl and Archie Niederhofer.

Services will be held, Wednesday July 12, 2006, at 4 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, with Reverend Ellen Willett officiating. Interment will follow at Black Jack Cemetery under the direction of Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Raymond Stewart Cotton

Raymond Stewart Cotton was born Sept. l, l925 in Huntsville to Morris and Hattie Cotton and died on July 8, 2006 in Huntsville. He graduated from Sam Houston State University and was a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred Cotton; son, Dana Cotton & wife Twanya; brother, James Cotton; sister, Mary Jo Poole; brother, G. B. Cotton; granddaughter, Amber Lamson & husband Andy; granddaughter, Adrienne Cotton; grandson, Dustin Cotton; grandson, Brandon Cotton; great granddaughter, Abigail Lamson; great grandson, Austin Martin and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; and son, Gordon Ray Cotton.

Services will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 11, 2006 in the chapel of the Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home with interment at Bath Cemetery.

Martha McWhirter Wolfe

Martha McWhirter Wolfe was born on July 1, 1918 in Commerce, Texas and passed away peacefully in her home June 29, 2006. She was the daughter of Ruth Grey Benge McWhirter and Joseph Grady McWhirter. Mrs. Wolfe is preceded in death by her husband Dr. James Madison Wolfe, her parents and two brothers who died in childhood.

She is survived by her son, Jim, of Livingston, and daughter Marjean Creager and her husband Rowe Creager of Huntsville, two granddaughters Jamie Kinser and her husband, Paul Kinser, Dusty Wolfe and fiance’ William Meadors of Huntsville, great grandchildren Tiffany and Dalton Kinser and their paternal grandmother Randy Rae Satory of Livingston.

Many nieces and nephews are part of the family. A special niece is Carol Wilder Harrigan of Seattle Wash.

Mrs. Wolfe always valued education. She graduated from high school through East Texas State Teachers College training school program in Commerce, and from Sam Houston State Teachers College for both undergraduate and graduate degrees.

Starting her teaching career in Riverside in 1955, Mrs. Wolfe came to Huntsville in 1957 and taught various levels for eight years before breaking barriers in the education community. In 1965, she transferred to Sam Houston High School, Huntsville’s all black high school to teach remedial reading.

In 1967 she became the reading coordinator for Huntsville ISD before becoming principal of Samuel Houston Elementary. In 1976, she became principal of Stewart Elementary where she stayed until her retirement in 1983.

Among numerous awards Mrs. Wolfe received the honor of Outstanding Elementary Principal for Region VI Service Center in 1983 and in May 2005 Huntsville ISD recognized her 26 years as Huntsville ISD educator by re-naming Stewart Elementary Library the Martha Wolfe Library and Education Center.

She and her family have been long time members of the First Christian Church where she recently researched and helped write a history of the church.

Mrs. Wolfe loved children, gardening and the company of good friends, but the brightest light of her life was her family.

Mrs. Wolfe was known by all as a generous spirit and a loving friend. She influenced countless lives through her regard for children and her respect for the dignity of all. Her smile and optimism are the legacies she leaves for us.

A service in celebration of her life will be at 10 a.m. Monday July 3 at the First Christian Church in Huntsville, Texas under the direction of Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home. Family visitation will be Sunday July 2, from 5 until 7 p.m. at the Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home. Donations in her name may be made to The First Christian Church, 1800 Avenue R, Huntsville, Texas.

Lillie Alberta Bunjes

Loving wife, mother and grandmother

Mrs. Lillie Bunjes, 87, of Riverside passed away in Huntsville on Aug. 8, 2006. Lillie was born to Lovice Albert and Josie Bell Martin on Oct. 26, 1918 in Lockney, Texas.

Lillie married John Louis Bunjes whom survives her. She spent many years as a devoted housewife and homemaker. She is also survived by daughters, Mary Louise Dale and husband Tom of Spring, Barbara Ann Parker and husband Bob of Houston, Betty J. Lewis and husband Jerry of Archer City, Texas; sixteen grandchildren, thirty-three great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews and other family members.

Lillie was preceded in death by her parents Lovice and Josie Bell Martin and brothers Lonnie, Roy and David Martin.

Memorial Services for Lillie will be held today at the Faith Lutheran Church at 2 p.m.

A private interment service was held on Friday, Aug. 11, 2006 in Cuero, Texas at the Hillside Cemetery. Rev. R.H. Wuenshe will serve as officiant.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Thee Hospice or the Faith Lutheran Church. Memorial condolences maybe sent to www.mem.com.

All services are under the direction of Huntsville Funeral Home.

James T. Lewis

James T. Lewis, 67, of Huntsville passed away Aug. 6, 2006. His daughters will best remember him for his love of the outdoors and being young at heart. Jimmy was born on Sept. 11, 1939 in Russellville, Ark. and lived in the state through his college years at the University of Arkansas; graduating in 1960. Jimmy was employed for more than 30 years by the Federal Aviation Administration in various locations including Houston. Preceding him in death was his wife, Sara Lewis in 2000 and surviving him are their daughters: Saundra & husband Garry Syphrett and Jamie & husband Roger Jarvis. There are seven grandchildren: John, Rebecca & Laney Syphrett and John, Bianca, Jake & Evan Jarvis and one great granddaughter: Basia Jarvis. Visitation is from 6 tp 8 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2006 with services 10 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 10, 2006 at Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home & Mausoleum.

Clarice M. Means

Worked for TDCJ for 10 years

Clarice Means, 63, of Huntsville, passed away Sunday, Aug. 6, 2006 in College Station. The rosary will be recited Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. at Brooke Funeral Home Chapel, 672 FM 980 in Huntsville with visitation following. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2006, at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Trinity with Fr. Tom Edelen officiating. Burial will follow at Brooke Cemetery in Huntsville.

Mrs. Means was born May 15, 1943, in Enid, Okla. to Clarence and Louise Dalrymple. She graduated from St. Joseph Catholic School in Enid, Okla., and worked for Texas Department of Criminal Justice with 10 of service. She was a member of the Red Hat Society of Huntsville, Bluebonnet Chapter and Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Trinity. She was preceded in death by her parents and a stepfather, Carl J. Day.

She is survived by her husband Albert Means; son, Jeff Bordelon of Huntsville; daughter, Carla Pierson and husband Scott of Coppell, Texas; 2 stepdaughters, Nyssa Rogers and husband Rob, Danielle Lewis and husband Clay, all of Hobbs, N.M. and 11 grandchildren.

For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to Thee Hospice, 2505 Lake Rd., Huntsville, Texas 77340 or the American Cancer Society.

Charles H. McBryde

Charles H. McBryde, was born Dec. 15, 1934 and died Thursday Aug. 3, 2006 in Trinity, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia, and his parents, Douglas and Eva Julia McBryde. Charles is survived by a daughter, Patricia Anderson and husband John Alan and grandchildren Casey and Katherine, from Uhland, Texas; son, Wayne McBryde, his wife, Carol, and grandchildren, Michael and Christopher from Kodak, Tenn.; two brothers, Graham McBryde and wife, Mona Grey, from Colonial Heights, VA, Ray McBryde and wife, Donna, from Trinity and sister Sylvia Passmore and husband, Bill, from Marble Falls, Texas as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Viewing and visitation will be held at Waller-Thornton Funeral Home, 203 San Jacinto, Trinity, Texas from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 5, 2006.

Funeral services will be held at Pine Ridge Baptist Church, in Sour Lake, Texas at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 7, 2006. with burial following at Pine Ridge Cemetery. Services will be officiated by Clifton Rankin.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Heart Association.

Virginia D. Weatherford

Virginia “Ginger” Weatherford, 67, passed away Aug. 17. 2006. Memorial services for Mrs. Weatherford will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2006, at the Huntsville Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gary Garrison officiating. Naomi Jane Edwards Corley

Naomi Jane Edwards Corley, 81, of Huntsville went home to be with the Lord on August 17, 2006. She died in a Houston hospital due to complications from diabetes. She was surrounded by her loved ones at the time of her death. Naomi was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to all. She was born April 22, 1925, in Ashland, Ohio, to Shelby and Olive Edwards. Naomi graduated from Ashland High School and attended Ohio State University and Sam Houston State University.

Naomi loved the Lord and was a lifetime member of First United Methodist Church in Huntsville. Before her failing health, she was active in the community. She worked with the Welcome Wagon Program for the city of Huntsville and also owned and operated Southern Beat Signing Telegram and Balloon Services. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Delta Zeta Sorority Alumni, Sam Houston State University Faculty Wives and Huntsville Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years (married April 28, 1944), Laurence Lester “Larry” Corley; her parents Shelby James Edwards and Olive Lucille Matthews Edwards; brothers Richard Edwards and Shelby Edwards Jr., and sisters Marilyn Edwards Deucher and Elaine Edwards Buckway. Naomi is survived by her daughter, Sandra Corley Nichols of Angleton, Texas; son, Laurence Lester Corley Jr. and wife Marsha Tollett Corley of Conroe, Texas; daughter, Pamela Corley Griffin and husband Brian Dale Griffin of Katy, Texas; and daughter Kimberly Corley Sutton of Frisco, Texas. Surviving grandchildren include Kelly Nichols Russell and Margaret Nichols of Angleton, Texas; Melanie Corley, Matthew Corley, Marilee Corley and Meghan Corley of Conroe, Texas, Garrett Griffin of Dallas, Texas, Dallas Griffin of Austin, Texas, Christopher Sutton of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Michael Sutton of Frisco, Texas. Great grandchildren include Michael Gifford, Ricky Nichols and Madison Russell, all of Angleton, Texas; brother John Edwards and wife Peggy of Ashland, Ohio, brother Bill Edwards and wife Laurie of Urbana, Ohio, sister Jackie Schuttera of Ashland, Ohio, sister Nancy Thomas and husband Travis of Euless, Texas and Bob Edwards and wife Connie of Ashland, Ohio. She is also survived by sister-in-laws Winifred Grivich, Rose Peck and Ruth Closs of Madison County, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 3 p.m. Monday, August 21, 2006, at First United Methodist Church in Huntsville with the Rev. Bruce Hay officiating. Interment will follow at Adickes Addition of Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home on Sunday, August 20, 2006, from 5-7 p.m. All services are under the direction of the Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home.

Mr. Ove O. Christensen, 79, passed away Aug. 16, 2006, in Conroe, Texas. Memorial services for Mr. Christensen will be held at a later date. All services are under the direction of Huntsville Funeral Home.
