Alton Lee Courtney Sr.

Alton Lee Courtney Sr., 81, passed away on Dec. 28, 2006. Mr. Courtney was born on April 19, 1925, in Kosse, Texas, to George Courtney Sr. and Iva Avant Haynes Courtney. Mr. Courtney was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 24 years, Thelma Sue Courtney; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Patrick Prikryl; son, Jimmy Courtney; daughter, Florence Ivy Parker; daughter and son-in-law, Gladys Ann and Stanley Lantzsch; son and daughter-in-law, Walter Earl and Kathy Courtney; son, Alton Lee Courtney, Jr.; and sister, Jerrry Van Dement. Also surviving are many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held throughout the day Monday, Jan. 1, 2007. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Huntsville Funeral Home. Funeral services for Mr. Courtney were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007, at Huntsville Funeral Home Chapel with Charles Bryce officiating.

Interment followed at Bath Cemetery. Pallbearers were J.W. Durham, Lee McMillon, Ray Wall, Gerald Wall, Chris Parker and Kyle Courtney. Memorial contributions may be made to the H.E.A.R.T.S. Veterans Museum of Texas at (936) 295-5959. Memorial condolences may be made to the family at www.mem.com Services were under the direction of Huntsville Funeral Home.

Aubrey Melvin Covington Sr.

Aubrey Melvin Covington Sr. passed this life to be with the Lord on Jan. 1, 2007. He was 86 years old. Aubrey was born on Aug. 8, 1920, in Crowville, La., to Clara and Clarence Covington and was the fourth child of six. He was a long-time resident of Point Blank.

Aubrey is survived by his loving wife of over 64 years, Sybil S. Covington. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Aubrey Melvin Covington Jr. and by his parents, brothers Reginald, Cleon and Ray and his sister Joy May. Aubrey is also survived by his daughters, Sharon Rhodes and Linda Cressman and her husband Tom.

Surviving grandchildren are Tricia Nichols, Breena Rhodes, Michael Cressman and his wife Stephanie, and Bradley Covington, as well as stepgrandchildren Rebecca Richards and Catherine Borresen and her husband Tom. Surviving great-grandchildren are Taylor Kerley, Kayla Cressman, Kassie Cressman and stepgreat-grandchildren Meghan Richards, Jessica Richards, and Bella Borresen. Aubrey is also survived by his brother Arvil Covington and his wife, Ernestine as well as numerous sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.

During World War II, Aubrey was a Staff Sergeant in the Army Airforce stationed in Guam. He was a part of the Photo Tech squadron and had been active in recent years in keeping in contact with his fellow PhotoTech buddies.

Aubrey was very active in his community and served several terms as president and vice president of the homeowners association of his subdivision. He was also a board member of the Livingston Water and Sewer Company. Aubrey had served the Lord by being active in the Point Blank Community Church as an Elder and held several board positions over the many years with the Church.

Aubrey retired from Permian Corporation in 1986 after 40 years in which he held management positions in safety and regional activities.

Aubrey was very family oriented, and loved his family very much. He was a Christian man who was always willing to help those in need though he was not one to ask for help from others. He was a believer that is better to give then to receive.

Visitation will be held at the Huntsville Funeral Home on Thursday, Jan. 4, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be on Friday, Jan. 5, at 2 p.m. at Point Blank Community Church with interment to follow at Center Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Jack Bailey will be officiating the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice or to the Point Blank Community Church or an Alzheimer’s Association.

To our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, we love you and will miss you with all of our hearts but we have comfort in knowing you are with our Lord and Jesus. Rest well, you are finally home.

All services are under the direction of Huntsville Funeral Home.

James LaVoyd Ginsel

Funeral services for Mr. James LaVoyd Ginsel will be held on Monday, Jan. 7, 2008 at 10 a.m. at Ephesus Baptist Church between Jewett and Marquez. Rev. Ray Payne and Rev. Lewis Neyland will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Sardis Cemetery near Jewett. Mr. Ginsel passed away on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bryan. LaVoyd was a graduate of Huntsville High School in the class of 1980. He worked as an electrician for over 20 years and recently started his own business, Ginsel Electric, in Marquez.

He loved to hunt, fish, cook, and really enjoyed singing. He loved his family and wanted to be surrounded by them at all times and to teach his children and grandchildren the life lessons that his father taught him.

LaVoyd was a loving father, brother, son, Papaw, and devoted friend. He was a member of Ephesus Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Robbie Ginsel of Marquez; three daughters, Jessica Carranza and husband Chris of Huntsville, Jackalyn Cauthen and husband Billy of Huntsville, and Meaghan Ostera of Katy; two sons, Joseph Bay and wife Leila of Tarkington and Joshua Bay and wife Jamie of Marquez; 10 grandchildren, Peyton and Parker Carranza, James Cauthen, Lissette, Gavin, Riley, Dalton, and Sophie Bay, and Bradley andCaressa Bay; mother, Katherine Glazner & husband John of Marquez; maternal grandmother, Lillie Mae Read of Buffalo; three brothers, Eric Ginsel and wife Tammy of Hilltop Lakes, Keith Ginsel and wife Tammie of Marquez, and Clay Ginsel and wife Kasey of Marquez; numerous nieces, nephews, other close family and many friends. LaVoyd was preceded in death by his father, James Harvey Ginsel and by his sister, Evette Michele Ginsel.

Visitation will be held on Sunday with the family present from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

T.J. Honeycutt

T.J. Honeycutt, 90, passed away Friday, Jan. 4, 2008. Services are pending under the direction of Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home.

Joanne Pankey Cusack

Joanne Pankey Cusack was born June 4, 1929, and passed away Jan. 5, 2008. Services are pending under the direction of Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home.

Luke Wayne Countz

Luke Wayne Countz, 79, died at his home Sunday, Jan. 7, 2007. He was a native of Walker County. He was born to Luke and Katie Maud Ward Countz, in the Pine Prairie Community, Feb. 15, 1927. Luke was a 40 year employee of Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, retiring as a supervisor in 1986. He married Patsy Brewer in 1948, and they had three sons. Patsy preceded him in death in 1991. In 1993, he married Gracie Yeager.

Luke Wayne was active in the Telephone Pioneers Club and Westway Baptist Church. He drew the plans for the original Little League Park at Josey Field in Huntsville. He was Past Master of Madison Masonic Lodge No.126 in Orange, Texas, in 1962. He was also Past Master of Forrest Masonic Lodge No.19, Huntsville, Texas, in 1982, and served as District Deputy Grand Master of the 28th Masonic District in 1990. He served as secretary of Forrest Lodge No.19 for 20 years. He was a life member of Forrest Lodge No.19, and a Lodge Scholarship bears his name. He was also a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the York Rite Chapter and Council. He was a member of Huntsville Order of Eastern Star, Chapter 240. He served as Worthy Patron in 1995, 2001, and 2002. He was a member of the First Families of Texas, First Families of Walker County Texas, and the Walker County Genealogical Society. He served his Country in World War II as a Sgt. 1st Class in the U. S. Army.

Luke Wayne is survived by his wife, Gracie Countz, of Huntsville; a sister, Joyce Gorzycki, of Bryan, Texas; three sons, Tommy Countz and wife Karen of Matagorda, Texas, Mike Countz and wife Patti, and Mark Countz and wife Cherie all of Huntsville; two grandsons, Stephen Countz and Corey Countz, both of Huntsville; three granddaughters, Katy Ringo and husband Ryan, Casi Countz and Calli Countz, all of Huntsville; three great grandchildren, Blaine Ringo, and Maci and Hunter Countz of Huntsville. He was preceded by a sister, Locy Bradley, and a granddaughter, Stacy Countz, in 2002. He is also survived by three stepchildren, Linda Rutledge of Huntsville, Debbie Read of Conroe and Billy Read of Livingston. His step grandchildren: Ken Rutledge and wife Crystal, and their children, Savannah and Kenny, Jr., of Mariposa, Calif.; and, Dyann Rutledge Smith and husband Trent and son Ethan of Huntsville. He is also survived by an extended family and many friends.

Services for Luke Wayne Countz will be Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007, at the Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Tommie Haley officiating. Masonic Rites will follow. He will be interred in Pine Prairie Cemetery. Casual dress is requested. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Forrest Masonic Lodge No. 19, Luke Wayne Countz Scholarship, P. O. Box 1004 Huntsville, Texas 77342-1004; or Westway Baptist Church Building Fund 12 FM 3179, Huntsville, Texas 77340. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday evening, Jan. 9, 2007, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home, 1700 Normal Park, Huntsville, Texas.

The family expresses appreciation to Thee Hospice and Home Health Care of Huntsville and a special thanks to Deborah Williams.

Sallie Rae Spell Thompson

Sallie Rae Spell Thompson, 59, passed from this life into her Lord and Savior’s loving embrace on Jan. 14, 2008, in Houston. She was born from the union of James and Robbie Spell on Dec. 12, 1948, in Baytown. She was a devoted sister, mother, and grandmother who leaves behind many relatives and friends who will miss her greatly. She worked in such places as J.C. Penney as ladies apparel manager, Texas Department of Corrections, and operated as manager of a residential remodeling and cleaning company as of late.

She is preceded in death by her beloved parents, James and Mabel Spell and Louis and Robbie Crenshaw. She is survived by her two sons, Charles H. Thompson III and wife Patty of Waxahachie and James R. Thompson of Stafford; granddaughter, Madison Faith Thompson of Waxahachie; two sisters, Frances Smith of and husband Michael of Sugar Land, and Marie Coker of Baytown: and one brother, Marshal Spell of Galveston. There are also numerous other members of the family unmentioned.

Her life will be celebrated at Navarre Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Baytown. The visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008, from 6-8 p.m. The service will be Friday, Jan. 18, 2008, at 3 p.m. The Rev. Darrin Trammell of Faith United Church, Hempstead, will be officiating. The service will not be followed by a graveside service as she will be cremated later and interred at the family cemetery in Dobbin, Texas. Any donations in lieu of flowers will directed specifically to the charity revealed at the funeral service.

Theresa Klodginski Allen

Theresa Klodginski Allen was born to Mary Borski Klodginski and Henry Klodginski, May 26, 1917, in Grimes County on April 8, 1933.

She married Andrew Allen, a schoolmate. By the next spring, they had a new baby son to add to their family and in six more years, a daughter.

For many years, she was a cotton farmer’s wife and worked as hard as the men all the while keeping a very clean house and cooking enough food to feed the hired help. Over the years she gained a reputation for putting good wholesome food on her table. Cakes and pies were always there for dessert.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Henry Klodginski; two brothers and five sisters. She is survived by one sister, Frances Klodginski, a son, Charlie Fowler Allen and his wife, La Juana; daughter, Bettye Ann Thompson; five grandchildren, Suzen Allen Blalock and husband Stephen Blalock, Greg Thompson, Gary Thompson, Todd Lance Thompson, Terry Thompson; great-grandchildren, Michelle Elyse Battson and husband Matthew Battson and Daniel Sean Ferguson and great-great-grandson, Tyler Battson.

Pallbearers will be Greg, Gary, Todd, and Terry Thompson, Stephen Blalock and Bob Hall.

Visitation was held Thursday, Jan. 25, from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 26, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Farris Cemetery under the direction of Sam Houston Memorial Funeral home.
