Charlene Harris

Funeral services for Charlene Harris, 66, of Mineola were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 13, at Sand Springs Baptist Church in Mineola with Bro. Jim Parker and Bro. James Spurgeon officiating.

Burial followed in Pilgrim Rest No. 2 Cemetery in Golden. Pallbearers were John Britton, Wilford Cox, Bill Hamby, Scott Lyles, Phil Jones, and Robert Pierce.

Mrs. Harris died Friday, April 11, at ETMC at Tyler.

She was born October 15, 1936, in Sweetwater. She lived in Mineola for 35 years. She was a member of Sand Springs Baptist Church in Mineola, where she worked as church secretary.

Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law, Gordon and Sheila Harris of Quinlan, Ricky and Karen Harris of Mineola, Jeff and Nancy Harris of Alba, and Chuck and Vicki Harris of Mineola; two daughters and sons-in-law, Nita and Jerry Leonardi of Mineola, Sherri and Phillip Weatheread of Winnsboro; two brothers, Joe and Jerry Fussell of Midland; one sister, Maxine Kirkpatrick of Midland; 20 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Edgar and Zella Mae Floyd Fussell; husband, Richard Harris; and brother, Eddie Dean Fussell.

Richard “Jack” Bolton
1920 - 2003
Funeral services for Richard “Jack” Bolton, 83, of Alba were at 1:00 p.m., Monday, Oct. 20, at Abbey Chapel at Restland Cemetery in Dallas with Bro. Jim Brown officiating.

Burial was in Restland Cemetery, Dallas, under the direction of Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home of Alba. Pallbearers were Sam Keltner, Jody McPherson, Marvin Marshall, George Backer, Lars Larsen, Dwain Keltner, and Chad Wilson.

Mr. Bolton died Thursday, Oct. 16, at ETMC-Quitman.

He was born January 17, 1920, in Troup.

He had lived in Alba for 20 years, moving there from Garland. He attended Lake Fork Baptist Church in Alba. He was a photographer and also drove for Brown Express for 40 years. He was a 50-year member of Jewel P. Lightfoot Masonic Lodge #1283 in Dallas. He was a member of the Teamsters Union.

He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.

He is survived by daughters Virginia Bailey of Wills Point, and Brenda and husband Leonard Ray Larsen of Rockwall; brother, Cecil Wayne Bolton of Pasadena; sister, Bonnie Mae Domino of Houston; special friend, Gertrude Sachtleben of Alba; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by parents, Dudley Buford and Ellie Bogel Bolton; wife, Juanita Faye Bolton in 1997; and sister, Dorothy Rawlinson.

Jimmy Glenn Dougherty
1947 - 2003
Memorial services for Jimmy Glenn Dougherty, 56, of Elm Mott, were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, at Dougherty Cemetery with Rev. David Diller officiating.

Mr. Dougherty died Tuesday, Oct. 14, at his residence.

He was born in Greenville on May 8, 1947, to Rayburn Paul and Vedia Lorine Hinshaw Dougherty. He was an auto parts delivery man. He was very passionate about golf and fishing.

Survivors include a brother, Tommy Dougherty of Corpus Christi; sisters, Patricia Serres of Emory, Brenda Johnson of San Leon, and twin sister, Carolyn Provine of San Angelo; and aunt, Omega Payne of West.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother.

Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home.

Charlotte M. Fife
1921 - 2003
Charlotte M. Fife, 82, of Point died Sunday, Oct. 19, at Green Acres Nursing Home in Emory.

She was born in Chicago, Ill., on March 23, 1921, to Frank and Irene Thorn Fife. She was a retired programmer for IBM. Ms. Fife was a member of First Christian Church in Dallas.

She is survived by a brother- in-law, Frank Pearson of Emory.

Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Deedie “Shorty” McKenzie
1916 - 2003
Funeral services for Deedie “Shorty” McKenzie, 87, of Alba were held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at Lake Fork Baptist Church with Bro. David Smith and Bro. Robert Stovall officiating.

Burial was in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Alba, under the direction of Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home of Alba. Pallbearers were Ken McKnight, Danny Isaacs, Jackie Hayes, Ronnie Busbee, Danny Pianalto, Wade McKenzie, Terry Clark and A.J. Whiting. The Men’s Sunday School Class served as honorary pallbearers.

Mr. McKenzie died Monday, Oct. 13, at ETMC-Quitman.

He was born June 24, 1916, in Alba and was reared there. He moved to California and worked there for 48 years before returning to Alba in 1987. He was a retired machinist for a stainless steel corporation. Mr. McKenzie was a member of Lake Fork Baptist Church. He worked in a CC camp for 42 months.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvis O. and Essie Russom McKenzie; two sisters, Lela Lynch and Dorothy Busbee; and two brothers, Hugh McKenzie and Alvis Leon McKenzie.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lola Mae Busbee McKenzie of Alba; one son and daughter-in-law, Darryl Wayne and Sandy McKenzie of Canyon Country, Calif.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jan and James Kerr of Yantis and Hughlene and Jackie Hayes of Alba; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Gordon and Lois McKenzie of Ore City and Ralph Dean McKenzie of Spanish Fork, Utah; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Ermagene Poston of Alba, Mattie Faulk of Longview, and Effie Amanda and Truman McDaniels of Gilmer; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

Joyce Palmore
1932 -2003
Joyce Lucille Palmore, 71, of Greenville died early Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 14, at her residence.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Johnny Hailes officiating.

Burial was in Simmons Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bob Parsons, Marvin Bagwell, Jason Spivey, Willard Gandy, Albert Vaughn and Mark Fawcett.

Born Sept. 25, 1932, in Hunt County, she was the daughter of John E. and Lora Lee Martin Underwood. She was married to Roy F. Palmore on Sept. 23, 1950, in Greenville. Mrs. Palmore was a homemaker and a member of Park Street Baptist Church.

Surviving are a son, Terry Palmore of Emory; daughters, Linda Black of Conroe, Brenda Arrington of Greenville, and Debbie Steel of Spring; a brother, Jerry D. Underwood of Garland; two sisters, Johnnie McCool of Greenville and Barbara Hogan of Emory; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1996; a son, Dickie Palmore, in 1964; her parents; and a brother, Jimmy Earl Underwood.

Joy Sickles
1925 - 2003
Funeral services for Joy Sickles, 78, of Sulphur Springs were held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 18, at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Tom Frisbie officiating.

Burial followed at City Cemetery with Josh Byers, Gabriel Garza, Paul Childress, Jim Lemmon, Mac Ishmael and John Lee serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were the Christian Women’s Fellowship Group of First Christian Church.

Mrs. Sickles died Thursday, Oct. 16, at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital.

She was born Oct. 1, 1925, in Wood County, to J.C. and Mary Oneida Dollar Pounds.

She married Jack Sickles on Oct. 4, 1942, in Sulphur Springs. He preceded her in death in 1999.

Mrs. Sickles was the retired owner of Bennett Lumber Company. She was a member of First Christian Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Jackie Price of Garland and Jeannie Bauer Lemmon of Addison; one son, Johnnie Sickles of Saint Jo; one sister, Jo Hart of Cumby; one brother, Clifford O. Pounds of Emory; three grandchildren, Paige Garza, Josh Byers and Katie Sickles; and three great-grandchildren, Jacob, Enzo and Vince Garza.

Robert Smith
1949 - 2003
Funeral services for Robert Lewis Smith, 54, of Emory were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at Prairie Grove Baptist Church with Apostle Dwight Smith and Rev. W. R. Byrd officiating.

Burial followed in Hopewell Cemetery.

Mr. Smith died Tuesday, Oct. 14.

He was born to Robert Paul Smith and Lue Tishie McMillan on July 15, 1949, in Emory. He married Delores Bozeman in Emory on March 25, 1972. He was a member of Jacksonville Church of Deliverance.

Survivors include his wife of Emory; three sons, Robert L. Smith Jr. and wife Nykeisha, Gary L. Smith, and Jason Smith, all of Emory; four brothers, Arby Smith and wife Ann of Sulphur Springs, Charles Smith and wife Barbara, and Dwight Smith, all of Emory, and Paul Smith and wife Sandra of Greenville; six sisters, Ganie Stenline and husband Travis, Gwendolyn Savage and husband Troy, and Lynda Boyce and husband Travis, all of Emory, Johnnie Newhouse and husband John of Dallas, Florestine Kornegay of Queens, N.Y., and Velma Johnson of Sulphur Springs; mother-in-law, Earnestine Bozeman Riley; and one granddaughter, Alyssa Belle Smith.

Cozine and Tarver Funeral Home of Greenville was in charge of arrangements.

Barney Flournoy
1923 - 2003
Barney Fred Flournoy, 79, of Greenville died Monday, Oct. 20, at Colonial Retirement Lodge.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, at Park Street Baptist Church under the direction of Coker Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Jimmy Rose, Rev. Pat Marks and Rev. Ben McGraw officiated. Burial was in Memoryland Memorial Park.

Born Nov. 28, 1923, in Pickton, he was the son of George Sylvester and Gladys Jewel Howard Flournoy. He married Julia Ann Frank on April 4, 1944, in Dallas.

Mr. Flournoy served in the U.S. Army. He worked as an assembler at E-Systems for 35 years and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of Greenville; three sons and daughters-in-law, Barney Fred “Butch” and Fern Flournoy and George Frank and Sharon Flournoy, all of Greenville, and Tim and Teresa Flournoy of Royse City; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol Elaine and Billy Mac Adair of Emory; sister and brother-in-law, Myrtle and Earl Dodson of Irving; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Cynthia Ann Spence; sisters, Ann Waid, Ruth Barrett and Jewel Flournoy; and an infant brother.

Steve Gerber
1956 - 2003
Steve Gerber, 47, of Lone Oak passed away Sunday, Oct. 19, at his residence in Lone Oak.

Memorial services were held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, at St. Paul Episcopal Church in Greenville.

Mr. Gerber was born Jan. 26, 1956, in Texarkana to Omar Gayle and Daylene Kay Dudley Gerber. He married Valerie Zelasney on Aug. 13, 1980, in Dallas. He spent his early years in Dallas and the last 20 years in Lone Oak.

Survivors include his wife of 23 years of Lone Oak; his mother of Garland; two sons, Billy Gerber of Nacogdoches and Joshua Gerber of Lone Oak; two daughters and son-in-law, Ashli Gerber of Lone Oak and Brittany and Joshua Finney of Groveton; special niece, Crystal Zelasney of Frisco; six brothers, David Gerber of Austin, Stan Gerber of Tombol, Robby Gerber of Garland, Tony Gerber, Daniel Gerber and John Gerber, all of Sasche; one sister, Julie Williams of Garland; two grandchildren, Kaden Finney and Ethan Adair; and numerous other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father; and one brother, Greg Gerber.

Thelma Kennedy Henry
1926 - 2003
Thelma Kennedy Henry, age 77, of Eustace and Emory passed away Monday, Oct. 20, at her home in Emory.

Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel in Seagoville with interment following at DFW National Cemetery in Dallas.

Mrs. Henry was born Jan. 4, 1926, in Royston to Wesson and Effie Heath Kennedy. She moved to the Weatherford area with her parents and eight brothers and sisters in 1937. She married A.T. Henry of Athens on June 7, 1950.

She is survived by her husband; son, Thomas Henry and wife Michelle of Combine; daughter, Brenda Henry Applegate and husband Wayne of Coppell; grandson, Landon Applegate; five granddaughters, Allison Henry Andrews and husband Christopher, Lisa Henry Perez and husband Joel, Jill Henry, Kelly Henry and Natalie Applegate; first great-grandchild, Alexandra Grace Andrews; sisters, Juanita West and Dorothy Ferdig of Weatherford; brothers, Weldon Kennedy of Weatherford and Dalton Kennedy of Abilene; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends

She was preceded in death by her parents; twin brother, Elmer Kennedy, who died in infancy; and Garland Kennedy; and sisters, Doris Mitchell, Wanda Hardin and Glenda Moore.
