Gerri Jarvis
1945 - 2008
A graveside services for Gerri Jarvis, 62, of Point were held Thursday, Sept. 18, at Elgin Cemetery in Elgin, Okla. with Bub Sanders officiating.

Mrs. Jarvis died September 15, 2008, at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville.

She was born October 12, 1945, in Dallas to Eddie and Daisy Dickerson.

Survivors include her husband, Loren “Sonny” Jarvis; two sons, Edward Keith of Dallas and David Allen Dougherty of McAlester, Okla.; daughter, Kathy Kelley of Arizona; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Dana Lee Dougherty, in 1972.

Bartley Funeral Home of Lone Oak was in charge of arrangements.

Ola Luther
1912-2008
Funeral services for Ola Luther, age 96, of Cumby will be held at Miller Grove First Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 23, with Rev. Jerry Clements and Rev. Byron Houck officiating.

Interment will follow at Miller Grove Cemetery, with Mrs. Luther’s great-grandsons serving as pallbearers.

Ola Luther passed away Saturday morning, September 20, 2008, at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler.

She was born in the Bonanza Community on February 9, 1912, the daughter of Lonnie and Dorcas Hurlbert Kinser.

She married Claudie D. Luther in Hopkins County on June 7, 1927. He preceded her in death in 1989.

Mrs. Luther was a machinist, retired from Cannon Craft. She was a member of Miller Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include daughter, Gay Walls of Cumby; brother, Lonnie Earl Craddock of Austin; sister, Pat Schilling of Pismo Beach, California; grandchildren, Claudia Jones, Mike McCutchen, Kent McCutchen, Debbie Hoff and Tony Walls; great-grandchildren, Heath Darrow, Natalie Stuckey, Michelle Mayhew, Christie Chance, Andy McCutchen, Lori Shaw, Karen Leos, Shannon Garrison, Chris Jones, Cody Walls and Courtney Walls; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Garland Kinser, Elmer Kinser, Cecil Byrd and Edward Maddox.

Arrangements are under the direction of Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
Frank Pearson
1925 - 2008
Frank Donald Pearson, 83, of Emory died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008, at Greenville Health and Rehab Center.

Mr. Pearson was born June 23, 1925, in Arkansas.

He married Muriel Fise in Dallas on August 11, 1961. She preceded him in death several years ago.

During World War II he served in the U.S. Army as a soldier and after being discharged, he joined the U.S. Air Force where he was a pilot. After the war he worked in Dallas as a policeman. He also served Rains County as a deputy sheriff and served on the board of Rains County Child Protective Services.

After losing his wife, the love of his life, his best friend and greatest love was his blue heeler, “Blue Dog.”

Blue Dog is his only survivor.

Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home.

Mark Kevin Speed
1966-2008
Funeral services for Mark Kevin Speed, age 41, of Hopkins County were held Sunday, September 21, at New Beginnings Fellowship Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Pogue and Rev. Larry Jordan officiating.

Burial was at North Hopkins Cemetery with Tommy Sanderson, Russell Skeen, Mike Garner, Chad Joslin, Doug Williams and Gary Don Petrea serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Ron Smiddy, Coye Golightly, Terry Virgil, Mike Orr, Robert Wolf and all the inmates at the county jail.

Mark passed away Thursday, September 18, 2008, at Baylor Hospital in Dallas.

He was born on October 12, 1966, in Hopkins County, the son of Billy Don and Billie Jan Parnell Speed.

He married Dena Thompson in Hopkins County on October 17, 2001. She survives.

Mark was a truck driver for Truline for several years. He became a licensed minister on January 4, 2007. He was really active in the New Beginnings Recovery Group (TGIF) and considered them to be part of his extended family.

He was also very faithful and committed to the jail ministry in Hopkins County. He ministered there on a regular basis and had a special place in his heart for the inmates due to his love for Jesus.

Mark was affectionately known by his grandchildren as “Pop-daddy” and was dearly loved by his family and everyone who knew him. Other survivors include one son, Dustin Speed and wife Sirena of Sulphur Springs; step-son Jeremy Thompson of Sulphur Springs; step-daughter, Caitlin Thompson of Sulphur Springs; brother, Terry Don Speed and wife Bonnie of Emory; grandchildren, Harley Kate Speed, Hannah Presley Speed and step granddaughter, Desiree Nicole Thompson; nieces Melanie Speed and Chasity Speed, both of Emory.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials may be made to the American Liver Foundation at www.liverfounda tion.org/donate.

Arrangements were under the direction of West Oaks Funeral Home.

Edwin O’Neal Davis
1926-2008
Graveside services for Edwin O’Neal Davis, 81, of Alba were held Saturday, Sept. 27, at Emory City Cemetery under the direction of Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home of Alba. Chaplain Kenn Somerville at Heart to Heart Hospice officiated.

Mr. Davis passed away Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, at his residence.

He was born December 29, 1926, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, to the late LeVander C. and Hattie Marie Jackson Davis. He served in the Army during Word War II. He married Patsy Parker March 21, 1994, in Mineola, and lived in Alba for 25 years.

Mr. Davis was a carpenter by trade, was a member of United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Local Union #429 in Arlington, and was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Patsy Davis of Alba; three sons, Robert Edwin Davis of Lewisville, Steven O’Neal Davis and James Raymond Davis both of Las Cruces, New Mexico; five stepchildren; four brothers; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Travis Ezell
1987 - 2008
Services for Travis Dylan Ezell, 21, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 27, at Southside Church of Christ with Chaplain Robert Glazener officiating. Burial followed in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.

He passed away September 20, 2008, at his residence at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Travis was born in Fort Worth on March 12, 1987. He grew up in and around Mart and Emory. He graduated from Rains High School in 2005 where he lettered in football and baseball.

Travis joined the military in July 2005. He attended basic training at Fort Knox, Kentucky, and later went on to his Advanced Individual Training in Aberdeen Proving, Maryland. After AIT, he attended the United States Airborne School in Fort Benning, Georgia.

Upon graduating Airborne School, he was assigned to the 782nd Base Support Battalion in Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

He served in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan where he completed a 15-month combat tour from December 2006 to March 2008 at Forward Operating Base “Salerno.”

Upon his return, he was invited to be a part of the United States Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School where he would be working with the U.S. Special Operations Command in the SOF Armament Facility as a small weapons specialist.

During his service career, he received the Army Commendation Medal (3), Army Achievement Medal (3), Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Bronze Service Star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (2), NATO Medal, and Basic Parachutist Badge.

He is survived by his father, Larry Randall Ezell; mother and step-father, Sandra Gayle Ezell-Almon and James Richard Almon; brothers, Trevor Reese Almon and James Ryan Almon; grandfather, John Young Stephenson; uncles, Gary, Brad, Mitch, Doug and Cory; aunts, Sheri, Jean and Karen; and cousins, Valerie, Michele and John.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Janice Gay Jay Kimberlin, Donald Mac Ezell, and Mellie Jo Hatley.
Willie “Bill” Gaby
1919-2008
Graveside services for Willie Mae “Bill” Wright Gaby, 88, of Alba are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 2, at Salem Cemetery, Alba, under the direction of Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home of Alba. Chaplain Robert Stovall will be officiating.

Mrs. Gaby passed away Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008, at a Quitman hospital.

She was born October 30, 1919, in Rains County to the late Oscar and Lena Murdock Wright. She married James Thurman “J.T.” Gaby on December 22, 1945, in Orange and had been married 54 years when he passed away on November 24, 1999. She had lived in Alba most of her life. She was a housewife and a member of First Baptist Church, Alba.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Narwin and Ava Gaby of Alba; daughters, Debra Jan Cason and Terri Gates both of Alba; brother and sister-in-law, J. T. “Pete” and Pat Wright; five grandchildren, Shelby Dawn Mullins, Casey Amanda Gaby, Maegen Michelle Chinchilla, Chelsie Ann Gates, and Liberty Kyle Gates; one great-grandchild, Haegan Edward Holland, and one on the way.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Ruby Fay Gaby, and grandson, Brett Holland.

Family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Althea Parker
1918 – 2008
A Christian burial for Althea Parker will be celebrated at Jacob Schoen and Son Funeral Home, with interment in Hope Mausoleum in New Orleans, La. waiting final arrangements.

Althea, 90 years old and a native of New Orleans, died Sunday, September 28, at Green Acres Nursing Home in Emory.

She was a former member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, New Orleans, La., and currently was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Sulphur Springs.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law Beverly and Edward Malloy, Emory; three granddaughters, Lori Cummings, Los Angeles, Cal., Lesley Cobb and Lana Buley both of Wylie; five great grandchildren, Olivia Cummings, Beau and Chandler Cobb, and Grant and Madison Buley and cousins.

She was preceded in death by husband, Dudley E. Parker; parents Morris F. and May Herkender Migliarrio; and brother Morris J. Migliarrio.

Iris Ann Champion
1940-2008
Funeral services for Iris Ann Champion, 68, of Edgewood are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 3, at Hiett’s LyBrand Chapel in Edgewood. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Iris passed away December 1, 2008, at her home in Edgewood.

Iris Ann Rosebrock was born October 10, 1940, in Dallas, to Andrew and Doris Nathlee Hill Rosebrock. She was raised in Dallas and attended school at Wheatland near Duncanville.

On March 29, 1961, Iris married Jimmie “Lee” Champion in Durant, Okla.

Iris spent most of her life in Texas, moving from Dallas to Emory in 1985. She and Lee owned and operated The Blue Jean Man in Edgewood since 1992. They moved to Edgewood to make their home seven months ago. She enjoyed dancing at the Long Horn Ball Room and the Patty Club in Dallas.

Iris was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Doris Rosebrock, and sister, Doris McMahon.

She is survived by her husband, Jimmie “Lee” Champion of Edgewood; sons, Martin Dale Champion and wife Elsy of Royse City and Steven Lee Champion of Edgewood; daughter, Jean Cyrus and husband Craig of Dripping Springs; brother, Richard Rosebrock and wife Jo of Sanger; sister, Elizabeth Kay Rosebrock of Denton; grandchildren, Michael Joe Champion, Amanda Marie Champion, Isaac Scott Champion and Sarah Elizabeth Champion; and a host of other family and friends.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening, 6:00-8:00 p.m. in Edgewood.

Joseph Glenn Gray
1971 - 2008
Funeral service for Glenn Gray of Point will be held at the Bull Creek Cowboy Church near Lone Oak on Tuesday, Dec. 2, at 2:00 p.m.

Burial will be in the Lynch Cemetery. Pastor Mike Moss will officiate.

Glenn died at his home Saturday, No-vember 29, 2008.

He was born in Rockwall on October 16, 1971, to Robert Elisha and Linda Lou Hooten Gray Jr.

He was an electrician by trade, and was truly an old-time cowboy at heart, one of a dying breed. He loved roping and anything to do with horses, cattle, or the frontier life.

He was a member and was baptized at the Bull Creek Cowboy Church.

Survivors include his father, Robert Gray Jr. of Paris; mother, Linda Gray of Royse City; brothers, Wayne Gray and wife Tammy and their children, Garret and Tiffany Gray of Caddo Mills, Eddie Gray of Royse City; half-brother, Robert Fred of Seagoville; grandmother, Margarette Eason of Dallas; aunts and uncle, Katherine and Gilbert Smith, J.C. Hooten, Chloe and Dale House, James and Carolyn Hooten, Mattie and Leon Free, Jimmy and Margaret Gray, and Gail Gray; and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Edward and Elsie Hooten, and Robert Elisha Gray Sr.

Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
