J. W. Hogue
1923-2008
J.W. Hogue of Irving passed away Tuesday, November 25, 2008. Funeral services were held Saturday, November 29, at Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Henry Malone and Pastor Joshua Price officiating. Interment followed at Restland Memorial Park in Dallas.

He was born September 7, 1923 in Point.

Survivors include his daughters Beth Rust and husband Roy of Irving, and Holly Murrow and husband W.R. of Irving; son James Hogue and wife Vicki of Missouri City; grandchildren Ashley, Chase, Corey, Leslie, Kyle, Kim, and Erin; and greatgrandchildren Hanna, Adam, Andrew, Ava, Braydon, and Belleamie.

Robbie Poston
1946-2008
Services for Robbie Jo Poston, 62, of Alba are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 2, at Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home chapel, Alba, with Bro. David Fletcher officiating.

Burial will be in Salem Cemetery, Alba, under the direction of Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home.

Pallbearers are Kippy McLelland, Kent Hayes, Kent McAree, Phillip Hail, Tony Hayes, and Ronnie Jones. Honorary pallbearer is Jackie Hayes.

Mrs. Poston passed away Sunday, November 30, 2008, in a Tyler hospice facility.

She was born March 10, 1946, in Dallas to Willie and Patricia Joyce Hooten Harrison. She lived most of her life in Rains and Wood counties and was a dental assistant.

Survivors include her husband, James Poston of Alba; son, Kevin Jones and wife Debbie of East Tawakoni; stepsons, Gilley Poston and wife Gay of Alba, and Jim Poston and wife Carol of Tyler; daughter, Kelli Bryant and husband Roger of Emory; brothers, Bob Harrison of Terrell, and Tracy Harrison and wife Kim of Tyler; eight grandchildren, Devyn, Tyler, Megan, Taylor, Dakota, Ashley, Lindsey, and Chelsea; four great-grandchildren, Sara Jade, J.R., Maddox, and Hensley; two nieces, Candice and Camilla; and nephew, Robert.

She was preceded in death by her parents and grandson Mike Poston.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd, Tyler, TX 75701.

Dorothy Marie Powell Williams
1924-2008
Services for Dorothy Marie Powell Williams, 74, of Dallas were held Monday, December 1, at Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home Chapel, Alba, with Bro. Mark Winskie officiating.

Burial was in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ronnie Moss, Levi Moss, Clifford Moss, Jim Tyson, Bryan Hurst and Grant Sadler.

Mrs. Williams passed away Tuesday, November 25, in a Mesquite hospital.

She was born March 5, 1934, in Frankston to John Wesley and Eula Mary McCoy Smith. She lived in the Dallas area for 58 years. She was a housewife and a Pentecostal.

Survivors include her husband, Claude E. Williams of Dallas; son, Walter Lee Powell and wife Alice of Richardson; daughter, Margaret Marie Tyson and husband James Martin Tyson of Golden; three grandchildren, Kimberley Hurst Watson, Dennis Wayne Hurst, and Bryan Keith Hurst; two step-grandchildren, William Scupham and Melissa Scupham; two great-grandchildren, Joshua Wayne Hurst and Jacob Ryan Hurst; and former son-in-law, Dwight Hurst of Mineola.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Eula Smith; two husbands, Belton Lee Powell and John Hewitt Williams; four sisters; two brothers; and grandson, Joshua Lee Powell.

Charlene Yarbray
1940 - 2008
Services for Charlene Yarbray, 68, of Golden were held Sunday, November 16, at Beaty Funeral Home in Mineola.

Burial was in Salem Cemetery in Alba. Pallbearers were Jonathan Roach, Matthew Roach, Stephen Johnson, Bubba Butler, Chad Butler, Heath Butler and Dwayne Butler. Honorary pallbearers were Can-dice Harrison, Camilla Harrison, Tracy Harrison, and Kali Johnson.

Mrs. Yarbray died Thursday, November 13, 2008, in Tyler.

She was born March 18, 1940, in Emory to the late Charlie and Drexel Butler. She lived in Houston for several years prior to moving to Golden in 1971. She was a homemaker and a bookkeeper.

Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law: Tina and Richard Roach of Golden, Rhonda and Troy Johnson of Tyler, and Angie Harrison of Mine-ola; two brothers, Jackie Butler of Emory and Lee Butler of Golden; one sister, Bennie Alexander of Emory; and six grandchildren, Jonathan Roach, Matthew Roach, Kali Johnson, Stephen Johnson, Candice Har-rison, and Camilla Harrison.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Steve Yarbray; and a grandson, Justin Roach.

James Floyd (Buck) Clifton
1925 - 2009
Graveside services for James Floyd (Buck) Clifton of Dallas were held Friday, January 16, at Restland Memorial Park in Dallas.

Mr. Clifton was born March 8, 1925, near Emory and died January 13, 2009, after a very courageous battle with a rare blood disease, Polycythemia Vera.

Many knew him by his childhood nickname “Buck.” He attended SMU prior to joining the Army where he served in Okinawa, Japan, in WWII.

After his military duty, he worked at Sanger Brothers Department Store in the carpet department and met his wife Jean. They married in 1948. In 1957, the couple opened Clifton Carpets on Oak Lawn and he loved the carpet business. His personality, wit, and charm were well-known in the industry. He mentored many and made numerous friends earning him the title of “Gentleman Jim,” for good reason. He could tell a fine joke, loved to laugh and was a great dancer.

Mr. Clifton also loved his country home in Rains County. He enjoyed his garden, lakes and pastures. He especially loved mowing on one of his tractors. He was an avid sports fan and reader.

He will be missed by many. While he had suffered with his illness, especially the last six months, he was always optimistic, stubborn and proud to the very end.

He is survived by his wife, Jean; sons, Charles and Stephen all of Dallas; brothers, Wayne, Boots, Raymond, Fred, and Bobby; sister Odessa and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Clifton had 11 brothers and one sister. His brothers Howard, Doy, Quillie (J.R.) Joe, Ollie Ray and parents Robert (Bob) and Zella Marzee Ratliff Clifton preceded him in death.

Margarett Ann Creel
1932 - 2009
Services for Margarett Ann Creel, 76, of Tyler were held Wednesday, January 14, 2009, at Woosley Baptist Church. Burial was in Woosley Cemetery.

Mrs. Creel died January 11 at Hospice of East Texas in Tyler.

She was born in Gatesville on January 26, 1932, to Reb Allen and Ruby Ozell Cooper Wittie.

She married Paul Sanford Creel Sr. in Houston. Mrs. Creel was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist church.

Her survivors include one son, Paul Sanford Creel Jr. of Waco; daughter, Paula Susan Fenter and husband Tommy of Tyler; brothers, Darwin Larry Wittie of Waco and Jerry Wayne Wittie of Tyler; granddaughter, Allison Gwen Shannon Morris; and great-grandson, Braden Paul Morris.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1964; two brothers, Charles Wesley Wittie and Joe Reese Wittie.

Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Juanita “Juanda” Holmes
1934 - 2009
Funeral services for Juanita “Juanda” Holmes, 74, Emory were held Saturday, January 17, at Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home chapel, Alba, with Bro. Jeff Thompson officiating.

Burial was in Pilgrim Rest No. 1 Cemetery, Emory. Pallbearers were Jackie Armstrong, Joe McLane, Zakkary Battaile, Michael McLane, Dustin Brannon, and Ronald Yarbrough Jr.

Mrs. Holmes passed away Wednesday, January 14, in a Tyler hospital.

She was born February 27, 1934, in Emory to the late Benjamin Fred and Juanita Burns Oliver. She served in the Army during the Korean War and was a nurse and homemaker. She lived in Emory for 20 years and was a member of the Emory Baptist Church.

Survivors include son, Randal Brannon of Lone Oak; daughters, LaDonna Mahavier of The Colony, and Renee Battaile of Dallas; brother, James Oliver of Las Vegas, Nevada; six grandchildren, Shannon Dycus, Jackie Armstrong, Nickole Dycus, Zakkary Battaile, Dustin Brannon and Rose Brannon; and one great-grandchild, Brenden Watson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Alton Holmes; and brothers, Billy Oliver and Fred Oliver.

Zelda Grace Lary
1921 - 2009
A memorial service for Zelda Grace Lary, was held Thursday, Jan. 15, at Pasadena Funeral Chapel with Gene Polvado officiating.

Burial was at Bald Prairie Cemetery in Richardson County.

Mrs. Lary passed away January 12, 2009, in Baytown after a brave fight with cancer.

She was born in Emory on January 25, 1921, to Joe Thad Williams and Ara Ophelia Vaughn.

She married Ray Lary in Galveston on July 9, 1943. They celebrated 50 years of marriage before he passed away in 1993.

She attended the Highlands Church of Christ in Highlands.

Grace is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Joy Rae and Darrell Hamilton of Lynchburg; her son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Amy Lary of Missouri City; sister, Laura Akin of Rockwall; sister and brother-in-law, Jo and Steve Dalton of Corpus Christi; and sister-in-law, Doris Williams of Houston; grandsons, Travis Wayne Hamil-ton, Jared Michael and wife Carol Kirby, Ryan Heath and wife Jessica Hamilton; granddaughter and namesake, Emma Grace Lary; and grandson, Carson Daniel Lary; great-grandchildren, Sophie Angelle and Spencer Aidan Brown and Ryan Heath Hamilton Jr.

Grace was preceded in death by her parents; brothers W.J. (Tom) Williams and Ivan Eugene Williams; and son, Emmit Harold Lary.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Heart Association.

Jody D. Atkins
1925 - 2009
Services for Jody D. Atkins, 83, of Alba, were held Monday, February 16, at Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home chapel, Alba, with Ken Masat and Robert Deming officiating.

Burial was in Cedarlawn Memorial Park, Sherman, with grandsons serving as pallbearers.

Mr. Atkins passed away Friday, February 13, 2009, in a Mineola nursing home.

He was born August 2, 1925, in Grayson County to the late Claude L. and Mary Ethel Millican Atkins.

He was a self-employed contractor in oil/sand mix for roads and owned and operated rock-crushing plants in Garland and Lancaster.

He married Joyce L. Spaugh February 3, 1951, in Denison, and they moved to Alba in 1978.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Joyce Atkins of Alba; daughter, Deborah Ringgold and husband Hugh of Alba; sister, Syble Daniel and husband Danny of Oak Cliff; four grandsons, Charlie Ringgold, Joseph Daniel Ringgold, Michael Thomas Ringgold, and David Lee Ringgold; three great grandchildren, Adyson, Jaxon, and Jaden.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Claude Lee Atkins, Jr. and Raymond B. Atkins.
