Services Pending
Funeral services for Charles Allen Myrick, 77, of Alba are pending at Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home in Alba. Mr. Myrick died on Firday, May 22, 2009 in Tyler.

Ira Elvia “Jim” Sellers
1927 - 2009
Funeral services for Ira Elvia “Jim” Sellers, 82, of Emory were held Friday, May 22, at Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Frank Summers officiating.

Burial followed in the Emory City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Matt Castillo, Jimmy Campbell, Steven Lowery, Michael Cook, and Johnny Sellers Jr.

Mr. Sellers died May 18, 2009, at Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler.

He was born on April 15, 1927, in Lakewood to Ira Clenton and Elvie Ethel Hicks Sellers. He married Johnnie Francine Holland in Dallas on February 27, 1947. She preceded him in death in 2005.

During his working career, Mr. Sellers was an automobile assembler. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of the Church of Christ.

Suvivors include daughter, Judy Chassang and husband James of Garland; sons, Jimmy Sellers and wife Vicki of Chickasha, Oklahoma, and Johnny Sellers and wife Diana of Quinlan; grandchildren, William Rowland, Johnnie Sellers and Jennifer Campbell; four great-grandchildren; numerous other family and friends.

Others preceding him in death were one brother, four sisters, and grandson Christopher Rowland.

Chester Lee Stacks
1936 - 2009
Funeral services for Chester Lee Stacks, 73, of Alba, were held May 26 at Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel with David Baker officiating.

Burial followed at the Clifton Cemetery in Rains County.

Mr. Stacks died May 23 at the VA Hospital in Dallas. He was born in Rose Bud, Arkansas, on April 6, 1936, to Horace Clay and Bertha Jane White Stacks.

He married Pauline Senter in Houston on March 11, 1966.

Mr. Stacks served in the U.S. Navy from 1954 to 1961, serving aboard the USS Manchester, the USS Eversole as well as the USS Hissem. He was an electrician in the Houston area, belonging to the IBEW, Local 716, Houston. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

Suvivors include his wife of Alba; daughters, Karen Brimer and husband Billy of Emory, Patricia Marroquin and husband Roland of Montgomery; Paulette Nation and husband Johnny of Houston, Donna Raper and husband Gary of Alba; sons, Eugene Kelley and wife Carrie of Huntsville, Randy Kelly and wife Karen of Houston, Ricky Kelley and wife Marty of Houston; sisters, Dorothy Paone of Heber Springs, Arkansas, and Ruth Sims of Venus; brother, Thomas Stacks of Conway, Arkansas; grandchildren, Bobby B., Brandon, Marcus, Tristen, Amanda, Toriana, Joshua, Jonathan, Diane, Stephanie, Bradley, Bobby K., Ashley, and Dustin; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one great-grandson Stephen Minton.

James Harold Young
1946 - 2009
James Harold Young, 63, of Emory died on May 18 at his residence in Emory.

He was born on February 8, 1946, in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, the son of Harold and Mary Elizabeth Young.

Mr. Young was a graduate of Big Springs High School in Newville, Pennsylvania. He was a former member of Bonnybrook Riding Club in Boiling Springs, Pennsylvania, and member of Walnut Bottom Rod and Gun Club and the Milking Shorthorn Association. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Viet Nam War.

Survivors include son, James C. Young (Jennifer Nipp) of Emory; Christine Wallace (Rod-ney) of Emory; sister, Mae Hemminger of Newville, Penn-syl-vania; grandson, Clayton; and numerous other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home of Emory.

Mary Elizabeth Carter
1919 - 2009
Graveside services for Mary Elizabeth Carter, 90, of Point are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 24, at Hooker Cemetery with Rev. Danny Calk officiating, under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home, Lone Oak.

The grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mrs. Carter passed away June 20, 2009, in Dallas. She was born March 6, 1919, in Dallas.

She spent the last 40 years in the Lake Tawakoni area. She had been or was a member of Memorial Christian Church of Dallas, Central Christian Church of Texarkana and Lone Oak Christian Church. She worked as a loan officer for Southern Trust & Mortgage in Dallas and as secretary for Ivan Alexander – Attorney at Law in Emory. .

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ray Carter of Point and Milton and Susan Carter of Quitman; three daughters and a son-in-law, Judy Palmore of Texarkana, Ark., Mary Lou and Kenny McGee of Tucson, Ariz., and Shelly Carlson of East Tawakoni; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Osler Richmond Carter; and two sisters, Kathryn Griffin and Gene Marlow

The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Ila May Cochran Henderson
1913 - 2009
Ila May Cocharn Henderson, 95, died on January 27, 2009 at Brookhaven Nurshing Home in Carrollton.

She was born in Emory on October 1, 1913, to Donald and Mae Cochran and married Roy Henderson in 1932.

Mrs. Henderson is survived by her daughter Mary Ann Fant of Carrollton; Robert Henderson of Las Vegas, Nevada; sister Ina Faye Rhodes of Arlington; and several grandchildren.

Burial was at Laurel Oaks in Mesquite.

Billy Glenn Lowrey
1935 - 2009
Funeral services for Billy Glenn Lowrey of Emory were held Monday, June 22, at Miracle Faith Baptist Church with Bro. Todd Magahee and Bro. Danny Caulk officiating. Burial followed in Tidwell Cemetery, Greenville.

Mr. Lowrey died on Friday, June 19, 2009, at Hospice of East Texas in Tyler. He was born on January 4, 1935, in Avery to William Jasper and Bevvie Mae Reeves Lowrey.

He married Barbara Jean Glasscock in Greenville on August 26, 1955. He served his country as a soldier in the U.S. Army, was a truck driver and retired from Kraft Foods in Dallas,

Mr. Lowrey was a member of Miracle Faith Baptist Church in Emory. He loved music and performed at the Cotton Pickin’ Theatre in Point. He had his own CD of gospel music and was most content when he was playing music with friends or working on songs by himself.

Survivors include his wife of Emory; two sons, Gerald Lowrey (Connie) of Greenville and Dwayne Lowrey (Robbie) of Wylie; grandchildren, Justin, Garen, Levi, Kacie, Jeremiah, Ashton, and Kathleen; great-granddaughter, Kyleigh.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Reeves Lowrey.

Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home of Emory.

Bernadean Read
1923 - 2009
Bernadean Read, 85, of Edgewood died June 9, 2009. Funeral services were held June 12 at Hiett’s LyBrand Chapel in Edgewood with Rev. Randy Larpenteur, Rev. B.A. Patton and Rev. Ralph Mitchell officiating. Interment followed at Small Cemetery.

Mrs. Read was born September 17, 1923, in Edgewood to Author Cecil and Alvia Gammons Pickens. She grew up in Edgewood, where she graduated from high school.

On June 23, 1943, Bernadean married Russell “Rut” Read. They made their home in Garland. Bernadean worked as a key-punch operator for Texas Pacific Railroad for 15 years and then for Teledyne Geo Tech. She also ran a home-based cake decorating business while raising her family.

After retirement in 1985, the Reads moved to Edgewood. Bernadean was a member of The Church of the Nazarene in Edgewood where she served on the board and taught Sunday school. She was an excellent cook and also enjoyed genealogy, handcrafts, gardening and was a member of The Quilt Club of Edgewood.

Mrs. Read is survived by son, David Russell Read and wife Melinda of Oklahoma City; daughter, Brenda Read Larpenteur and husband Randy of Grand Saline; brother, Haskell Pickens of Edgewood; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Along with her parents, Bernadean was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Read; sisters, Lovita Atchely and Dorothy Harcrow; and daughter-in-law, Karen Hoffpauir Read.

Russell Nicholas Read
1922 - 2009
Russell Nicholas Read, 87, of Edgewood died May 16, 2009. Funeral services were held May 19 at Hiett’s LyBrand Chapel in Edgewood with Rev. Randy Larpenteur, Rev. B.A. Patton and Rev. Ralph Mitchell officiating. Burial followed at Small Cemetery.

Mr. Read was born February 14, 1922, in Edgewood to Nick and Floy Haptonstall Read. He attended school in the Lane Community, just north of Edgewood. In November of 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served four years. He received the American Theater Campaign Medal, the EAME Campaign Medal with four Bronze Stars, the Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Ribbon, one service stripe and three overseas service bars.

He married Bernadean Pickens on June 23, 1943, in Edgewood. They made their home in Garland where they raised their family. After Mr. Read’s discharge from the Army, he worked in the auto upholstery business and as a radiator mechanic.

After his retirement, the Reads moved to Edgewood in 1985. His hobbies included farming, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. Mr. Read attended The Church of the Nazarene in Edgewood.

He is survived by his wife, Bernadean Read of Edgewood, who died approximately three weeks later on June 9, 2009; son David Russell Read and wife Melinda of Oklahoma City; daughter, Brenda Read Larpenteur and husband Randy of Grand Saline; brother, John Henry Read and wife Sharon of Edgewood; sisters, Lounita Block of Lufkin and Jessie Ruth Collins of Baton Rouge, La.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; cousins, Marvin Northcutt, Bud Northcutt and Oren Northcutt; and many other relatives and friends.

Mr. Read was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Leon Read, Maybell Read, Bernice Carter, Howard Read, Raymond Read and Lowell Read; and daughter-in-law, Karen Hoffpauir Read.

Jimmie Mae Kelley
1929 – 2009
A graveside service for Jimmie Mae Kelley, 79, of Hugo, Oklahoma, was held on Tuesday, July 14, at the Valliant Cemetery in Valliant, Oklahoma, with David Hendricks officiating.

Ms. Kelly passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2009, in Corinth.

She was born on November 18, 1929, in Durant, Oklahoma, to Carl and Eula Mae (Smith) Norman. She was married to Earl Allen Kelley Sr. and took care of their home and their sons.

Jimmie is survived by her two sons, Earl Allen Kelley Jr. and wife Martha of Emory and Robert Dale Kelley and wife Kim of Sanger; one sister, Carlene Smith of Valliant, Oklahoma; and three grandchildren, Mandy, Christian, and Jesse Kelley of Sanger.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Services were under the direction of Coker Funeral Home in Sanger.
