Eugene Jackson Bennett
1930 - 2011
Services for Eugene Jackson Bennett, 81, of Alvarado were held Wednesday, December 21, at Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Wade Yarbro officiating.

Burial was in Salem Cemetery, Alba. Pallbearers were Calvin Bennett, Eddie Bennett, Tommy Bennett, Robby Bennett, Perry Scott and E.T. Goodwin.

Mr. Bennett died on Monday, December 19, 2011, in a Burleson hospice facility. He was born January 18, 1930, in Alba to Charlie Edgar and Bammie E. Martin Bennett.

He lived in Alba in his early years, but lived most of his life in Burleson. He married Mary Jane Kimbrow at the Alba Church of Christ on March 5, 2002. He was an entrepreneur in the retail grocery business, founded the Bennett Grocery & Deli in Burleson in 1970, and was a member of Church of Christ in Burleson.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane Bennett of Alvarado; sons, Tommy Bennett of Burleson, Calvin E. Bennett and wife Katharine of Whitney, Eddie Bennett and wife Barbara of Burleson; brother, Roy Bennett of Mineola; sisters, Margaret Parrish of Emory, Charlsie Luckett of Arlington, Dorah Comer of Granbury and Marthie Gilbreath of Burleson; seven grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Bennett was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 47 years, Ellon Fine Bennett,; seven brothers; and three sisters.

Dewayne Eugene Bishop
1955 - 2011
Services for Dewayne Eugene Bishop, 56, of Mineola were held Saturday, December 31, at Open Door Church, Alba, with Bro. Randy Bohannan and Bro. Rick Childers officiating.

Burial was in Cottonwood Cemetery, Golden, under the direction of Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home of Alba. Pallbearers were Roy Householder, Josh Bolden, Cliff Bishop, Travis Hoover, Paul Morrow and Joe Bolden.

Honorary pallbearers were Eric Hoover, Karsen Bishop, Kolby Bishop, Alex Perez, Tony Perez, Dustin Welch, Bryan Welch, Brandon Bohannan, Michael Bohannan, Tim Bohannan, Randall Bohannan, April Welch and Adrianna Perez.

Mr. Bishop died on Thursday, December 29, 2011, in a Tyler hospital. He was born July 24, 1955, in Mineola to Paul Eugene and Eva Pearl Hays Bishop.

He was a lifelong resident of Wood County. He married Cheri Hoover on April 30, 1988, at Open Door Church where he was a member. He graduated from Alba-Golden High School and was a minister. He loved fishing and worked for Walmart in the sporting goods department for 28 years.

Survivors include his wife, Cheri Bishop of Mineola; brother, Jim Bishop and wife Rhonda of Tyler; sisters, Brenda Householder and husband Kenny, Mary Bishop and Lisa Bishop all of Mineola; and nieces and nephews.

Mr. Bishop was preceded in death by his parents.

Christopher Shawn Burruss
1970 - 2011
A funeral service for Christopher Shawn Burruss, 41, of Point was held January 1 at Ardis Heights Baptist Church in Greenville with Bro. Danny Gandy and Bro. Raymond Zifer officiating. Burial followed at Smyrna Cemetery.

Mr. Burruss died December 26, 2011. He was born December 14, 1970, the son of Jimmy Don and Rebecca Smith Burruss. He was a truck driver.

Survivors include his “first lady,” Tressa of Point and Mary Laxton of Gravette, Arkansas; sons, Christopher Adam Burruss, Jacob Burruss, Luke Burruss, Edmund Sideravage III; daughters, Savannah Burruss, Cecelli Burruss, Maranda Burruss, Bailee Burruss, Miriam Fields, Isabella Laxton; grandson, Jayden Deleon; brothers, Jimmy Don Burruss Jr., Michael Burruss, Bryan Burruss; and sisters, Deborah Haugh and Alyson Bell.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson-Orwoksy Funeral Home in Emory.

Carl English
1926 - 2011
Services for Carl Laverne English, 85, of Alba, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 3, at First Baptist Church, Alba, with Bro. Otis Lee officiating.

Burial will be in Salem Cemetery, Alba, under the direction of Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home of Alba. Pallbearers will be Rusty Sherwood, Ethan Ralph, Heath Parmer, Boyde Parmer, Roger Bryant, Brent Sherwood, John Ralph and Jerry Pogue.

Mr. English died on Saturday, December 31, 2011, at his residence. He was born February 7, 1926, in Alba to Rupert Barnard and Vernola Ann Wright English. He married Lillie Mae Fields in Wills Point on June 5, 1946.

Mr. English was a lifelong resident of Alba and graduated from Alba High School in the Class of 1943. He served in the Navy during World War II, served many years on the Alba-Golden school board, served on the Bright Star Salem Water board and was a charter member of the Alba Lions Club. He worked for Standard Brand in Dallas for many years and then worked for International Extermination before starting his own extermination business.

He owned and operated English Grave Service, worked with Bartley Funeral Home for over 20 years, was a sweet potato farmer and ran cattle. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Alba and served as a deacon for many years.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Lillie English of Alba; son, Jason English of Alba; daughter Carla Parmer and husband Boyde of Emory; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Mr. English was preceded in death by his parents; son, Roger English; brother, Erwin Pratt English; and sister-in-law, Fannie English.

Family will receive friends from noon until service time Tuesday at the church.

Robert Lee Haker
1936 - 2011
Visitation services for Mr. Robert Lee Haker, 75, of Alba, were held Monday, January 2, at Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home in Alba.

Mr. Haker died on Friday, December 30, 2011, in Justin, surrounded by his family. He was born December 8, 1936, in Collin County to Leo Joe and Naomi Ketner Haker. He married Irene Ball on March 7, 1977, in Kaufman.

Mr. Haker lived most of his life in Balch Springs prior to moving to Alba 20 years ago. He served in the U.S. Army and was a camera operator in the printing industry, retiring from the Taylor Publishing Company in Dallas. He was a member of the Graphic Communication Industrial Union and the Church of Christ.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Traci and Greg Nelson of Justin; brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Doris Haker of Anna; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and John Flanery of Lancaster; and two grandchildren, Riley Nelson and Joshua Nelson, both of Justin.

Mr. Haker was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Irene Haker; sister, Betty Payne; and brother, J.L. Haker.

Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home of Alba.

Clarence Elton Hall, PhD
1920 - 2011
Graveside services for Clarence Elton Hall, PhD, 91, were held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 30, at Lone Star Cemetery in Point under the direction of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home.

Dr. Hall died on Friday, December 16, 2011, at home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, after a prolonged illness. He was born in Old Boston on May 18, 1920.

Clarence was a rock of strength for his family, loving the Lord, his country and LSU where he was a Professor Emeritus of the College of Engineering. After retirement from LSU in 1985, he worked for the Department of Continuing Education. His passion was learning; his vocation was teaching, whether the word of the Lord or engineering graphics.

He taught students the practical ways of industry as well as the knowledge, which comes from books. He taught his family and lived his life as an example for others to learn the commandment of the Lord; “Love the Lord with all your heart and love your neighbor as you love yourself.”

He is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Lea Hall; daughter and son-in-law, Judith Kathryn and Richard Schroeder; brothers, James Lloyd Hall and Herbert Murl Hall; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Monroe Hall and Essie Geneva Hall; his wife of 70 years, Anna Kathryn Humphrey Hall; a son, Kenneth Allen Hall; and two sisters.

The family expresses sincere appreciation to all caregivers, especially Rose Marie Wade who loved and cared for the parents with the gentle kindness of a tender angel of mercy.

Randy Jacks
1955 - 2011
Services for Randy Jacks, 56, of Emory will be held January 3 at 2:00 p.m. at Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home in Emory.

Mr. Jacks died December 31, 2011. He was born December 29, 1955, in Hunt County to Arthon Raymond and Ollie Dodson Jacks. He married Pamela Annette Childers on July 17, 1986. During his working career, he was employed at L-3 Communications in Greenville as an aircraft mechanic.

Survivors include his wife, Pam of Emory; son, Garrett Jacks of Lewisville; daughters, Tonya McAree and husband Cody of Alba, and Brandi Jacks of Emory; sisters, Linda Franklin and husband Ray of Point, Margaret Briggs of Point, and Janette Stanley and husband Barney of Arlington; brothers, Joe Jacks and wife Brenda of Grand Saline, Jim Jacks and wife Bonnie of Emory; and Geary Jacks and wife Donna of Alba.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in-law Rayford Briggs.

Isaac Kuba
1934 - 2011
Funeral services for Isaac Kuba, 77, of Emory were held December 23 at Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel in Emory with Rev. Herman Martinez officiating. Burial followed at the Emory City Cemetery.

Mr. Kuba died December 21, 2011. He was born July 21, 1934, in Vernon to Ralph and Rosa Maria Munzo Kuba. He married Mary Alvarado on October 27, 1957, in Crowell.

He was a retired farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Mary of Emory; daughters, Rose Mary Kuba-Herbig of Addison, Betty Kuba Rincon of Emory, Debra Chavarria of Garland, and Susan Hazelwood of Emory; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; and six sisters.

Elma Christine McAree
1922 - 2012
Services for Elma Christine McAree, 89, of Alba are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 4, at Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Byron Howard and Mike Decker officiating.

Burial will be in Smyrna Union Cemetery, Emory, under the direction of Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home, Alba. Pallbearers will be Dale Harvey, Dwain Decker, Clifford Hukill, Gary Decker, Steve Staggs and Howard Decker. Honorary pallbearers will be Travis Decker, Cody Staggs, John Paul Hukill, Larry Hukill and Mike Decker.

Mrs. McAree died on Sunday, January 1, 2012, in a Lindale nursing home. She was born June 10, 1922, in Van Zandt County to Elmer and Vannie Leota Smith Decker and lived all of her life in Rains County. She was a cook for Rains County High School for 25 years and was a homemaker.

Survivors include a brother, Scott Decker of Point; sisters, Margie Harvey of Emory, Edith Doudney of Anna, Lillian Hukill of Lindale and Ann Staggs of Balch Springs; four nieces; eight nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Rains Independent School District.
