Frank Perry

Frank Perry, 78, of Crosby, formerly of Baytown, passed away Nov. 2, 2004 in a local hospital.

Mr. Perry was born Sept. 8, 1926 in Ripley, Tennessee to Benjamin & Beatrice Perry. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He is preceded by sons, Paul David Perry and Frankie Perry and by one grandson, Paul David Perry, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Minnie “Opal” Perry of Crosby; by sons, Bryan Perry & wife Laci of Baytown; Walter Perry & wife Betty of Atascocita; and Steven Perry & wifeTina of Hagerstown, Maryland; daughters, Sharon Duduk of Bowie, Maryland; Nancy Brashear & husband Brian of Mt.Belvieu, Texas; and Jeanie Perry of Crosby, Texas; by one brother, Virgil Perry of Arizona; and 15 grandchildren, Walter, Jennifer, Dacia, Tammy, Kathy, Frank, Al, Lonnie, Steven, Angel, Amy, Chris, Betsey, Allen & Keisha as well as numerous great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Fri. Nov. 5, at Carter Funeral Chapel and will be laid to rest in White Cemetery in Highlands under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, 13701 Corpus Christi St. Houston, TX 77015. 713/455-5100.

Patricia “Patsy” Cox Raines

Patricia “Patsy” Cox Raines was 56 years old and a resident of La Porte. She was born in Goodland, Kansas.

She was surrounded by family when she passed away on November 2, 2004.

Patsy was full of life. She showed that through her devotion to her family and friends, undying sense of humor, passion for the outdoors and dedication to work. She not only warmed our hearts, she also kept us warm with the many beautiful quilts she made.

She is survived by her husband Wesley Glen Raines, her two daughters Shelley Anderson and Staci Gullingsrud and son Sammy Cox. She is also survived by her parents E.H. and Nadine Harbaugh. Brother Mike Harbaugh, his wife Susan, close friend Mike Cox and family survive her. She also had three granddaughters, Erin, Danielle and Raegan.

A viewing will be held Friday, November 5, 2004 at Grandview Funeral Home from 5-7pm. A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 6, 2004 at 3:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the MD Anderson Cancer Center. Grandview Funeral Home has been entrusted with these arrangements.

Patricia Deitrick-Black

Patricia Deitrick-Black, 70, of Baytown passed away Saturday, October 30. Memorial services are scheduled for 10 AM., Saturday, November 6, at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Channelview. Internment will follow at White Cemetery in Highlands.

Deitrick-Black was born April 24, 1934 to the late John Raymond and Geneieve Deitrick in Cleveland, OH. She retired from the Texas Workforce Commission in 1996 and enjoyed reading and decorating. She is preceded in death by her brother Tony Deitrick and daughter Robin Ann Krebs.

Survivors include her husband, Charles R. Black, Baytown, daughters, Willo Jean May, Fenton, MI, and Leslie Jean Dennis, Highlands, son Scott Damien Krebs, Channelview, brother Tom Deithrick, OH, and grandchildren Sean Casey Dennis and Mark Andrew Dennis, both of Highlands. Services are under the direction of Sterling-White Chapel, Highlands.

Dick Shaw

Dick Shaw, 77, passed away on Tuesday, October 26, 2004 at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas.

Mr. Shaw was a resident of the Houston/Baytown area since 1968. He served his country as a radio operator for the Merchant Marines during World War II. He enjoyed a 23-year career in retail for Margo’s leaving the company in 1981 to start his own business, a successful executive personnel placement firm. He was of the Baptist Faith. He enjoyed shrimping, hunting and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a remarkable man, caring for his ill wife for more than 12 years until the time of his death with no consideration for himself.

Mr. Shaw was preceded in death by his son, Richard Michael Shaw, his Parents and 3 brothers. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Patricia Claudell Shaw of Baytown; 1 son, James Delway Shaw of Baytown; 2 daughters, Donna Fay Shaw; Trish Davidson of Canyon Lake, Texas; Sister, Sue Alice Ford of Lubbock, Texas; 4 Grandchildren: Casey Lynn Simpson, Candace Marie Shaw, Chyann Fay Shaw and Bradley Shaw; 1 Great-Granddaughter, Kayla Marie Jones.

At his request, no services will be held. Condolences may be sent to Claudell Shaw, 205 Burnet, Baytown, 77520. May he rest in peace within the comfort of our Lord’s embrace. Arrangements are under the direction of Earthman Funeral Home, 3919 Garth Road in Baytown.

Doretha Robinson

Doretha Robinson of Baytown, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, November 3, 2004, her funeral services are pending at Frazier Funeral Home. “We Serve to Serve Again”.

Fred Ernst

Fred Ernst, 71, of Baytown passed away at a local hospital Thursday Nov. 4, 2004. Arrangements are pending with L.A. Crespo Funeral Directors, 6123 Garth Rd., Baytown, TX 77521.

Earl Dean Sherman

Earl Dean Sherman, 78, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004, at an Arlington hospital.

Visitation will be held Thursday, 6.pm. to 8 p.m. at Moore Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Grace Lutheran Church, 210 W. Park Row Dr., Arlington.

Burial will proceed at Moore Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Grace Lutheran Church Building Fund or a charity of choice.

Colonel Earl Dean Sherman was born Sept. 8, 1926, in Baytown, to Clive Elwood and Ellie Mae Sherman. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Baytown in 1944, and entered the Army Air Corps, where he served until 1946. He attended Texas A&M University, where he received his degree in architecture. Upon his graduation in 1951, Mr. Sherman received his officer commission in the Air Force Reserves, where he served until retiring in 1981. Colonel Sherman served as a registered architect for the U.S. Government until his retirement in 1986.

On Oct. 19, 1952, Earl married Opal Geneice Stevens and throughout their 52 years together, they raised three sons in Fort Worth and Arlington. He was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Arlington, serving over 17 years in several capacities, including elder and TLC group leader.

Survivors are wife of 52 years, Geneice; sister, Margaret Mullen of Pearland; sons, Earl Jr., Geoffrey and Bradley Sherman; nine grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are under the direction of Moore Funeral Home, 1219 N. Davis Dr., Arlington, Tx (817) 275-2711.

Lois L. Walter

Lois L. Walter, age 92, of Baytown, Texas, formerly of Port Washington, New York, passed away Monday, November 1, 2004. Born in Brooklyn, New York, March 30, 1912, to the late Jerome and Mary (Brown) Lewthwaite, Lois was 7 when her family moved to Port Washington where she lived for most of the next 80 years.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 60 years, Theodore F. Walter and by her brother, Gordon W. Lewthwaite. She is survived by her children Theodore F. Walter, Jr., and wife, Joan, of Greenlawn, New York, Donald L. Walter, and wife, Marge, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Elizabeth W. Yenetchi, and husband, George, of Baytown, Texas, Stuart S. Walter, of Holbrook, New York, and Janice S. Slakter, and husband, Jeffrey, of Highland Park, Texas; her sister, Carol L. Lockard, of East Hartford, Connecticut; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Lois graduated Middlebury College in Vermont in 1933 earning a Bachelors degree in Home Economics. She qualified as a Registered Dietitian at St. Katherine’s Hospital in New York City. She married Ted, on August 5, 1939. They lived in Atlanta, Georgia, until the outbreak of WW II. Lois was Chief Therapeutic Dietitian at St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn, New York until her retirement in 1983.

A life long Methodist, Lois met Ted at the Methodist Campground in Jamesport, New York, when she was 14. They were very active in the First United Methodist Church of Port Washington. Lois was an avid reader and loved cooking, crocheting, boating and most of all, her family. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Lucio Rodriguez

Lucio Rodriguez of Baytown passed away Tuesday, November 02, 2004, in a Houston hospital. He was born March 3, 1920 in Mexico to Mateo and Juana Rodriguez. He was a farmer and a member of the Puente Spanish Congregation of Jehovah’s Witness.

He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Juanita Rodriguez of Baytown; children, Genaro (Geno) Rodriguez and wife Maria of Baytown, Santa A. Mora and husband Ramon of Pasadena, Rosa Mata and husband Hector of Brownsville, Mateo Rodriguez and wife Aurelia of Pasadena, Juan A. Rodriguez and wife Eva of Houston, Ada L. Ponce and husband Bruno of Baytown, Luis F. Rodriguez and wife Rosa of Mexico, and Aracely R. Herrera and husband Lauro of Houston. He is also survived by sisters, Carlota Rodriguez and Lilia Rodriguez, both of Mexico; brothers, Alfonso Rodriguez of Fort Worth, and Domingo Rodriguez of Mexico; 21 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm at Navarre Funeral Home with Elder Horacio Garcia officiating. Burial will be Thursday, 11:00 am at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Genaro Rodriguez Jr., Bruno Ponce Jr., Adrian Rodriguez, Hugo Mora, Victor Mora, and Lauro Herrera Jr. Visitation was on Wednesday afternoon prior to the service.

Hixie Varie Like Williams

Hixie Varie Like Williams passed away on November 2, 2004. She was born on February 6, 1923 in Bluff Dale, Texas to William Crockett Like and Ada Smith Like. She was the youngest of four children, “Lewis Like of Alvarado, Cullie Like of Graham and Hazel Like Patterson of Plano, TX” All of whom preceded her in death. She had resided at the Mountbatten House in Highlands after moving to Baytown from Dayton in 1996.

She married C. L. Williams in Granbury, TX. on March 1st, 1941 and assisted her husband as a loving wife, wonderful mother and homemaker as he pastored several churches in Dayton, Schwab City, Raywood and Cleveland. In 1963, she went back to college and became a nurse. She retired from Humana Hospital in Baytown in the mid-1980s.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Rev. C. L. Williams and a son, Larry Joe Williams. She is survived by three sons, Dr. Ronald L. Williams and wife Adela of Kingsville, Hershal Ray Williams and wife Judy of Merritt Island, FL. And Michael Like Williams and wife Linda of Dayton; Seven grandchildren: Major Richard L. Williams and wife Donna of Huntsville, AL., Robert J. Williams and wife Christy of Garland, TX., Ronika Williams of Cleveland, OH., Roldan Gutierrez of Kingsville, TX., Kathrine Williams and Rachel Williams of Orlando, FL., Craig Wisener of Houston, TX. and Heather Johnson and husband James of Dayton, TX; Five Great-grandchildren: Brittany and Sabrina Williams of Huntsville, AL., Caleb and Makenzie Williams of Garland, TX., and Morgan Johnson of Dayton, TX.

She was a long time member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Past Worthy Matron of the O.E.S. in Liberty and Dayton.

Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 3, 2004 at Earthman Funeral Home in Baytown. Funeral Service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 4, 2004 at Earthman Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Tony Rogers of Calvary Baptist Church in Dayton officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Crest Cemetery in Baytown.

Her family would like to send special thanks to the staff at Mountbatten House where she had resided this past year and a half. Also, thanks to the staffs at San Jacinto Methodist Hospital on Garth Road, the “Skilled Nursing” unit and the “Hospice” staff on Alexander Drive.

Homegoing arrangements are under the direction of Earthman Funeral Home, 3919 Garth Rd. in Baytown.

Josephine Padgett

Josephine Padgett, 87, beloved mother, grandmother and sister, passed away on October 31, 2004 at her home in Baytown. She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church and the Eastern Star. Josephine enjoyed being with her grandchildren and she loved to cook and bake. Her favorite past-time was working crossword puzzles and keeping up on current events. She was a caring and generous lady who will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Josephine is preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Howard; 3 sisters and 6 brothers. She is survived by her children, Larry and Jo Ann Padgett; grandchildren, Melanie Doyle and husband Chris, Andrea Ames and husband Brian, Aaron Coindreau, Jason and Casey Padgett; great-grandchildren, Zoe and Draven Doyle; brother, Jack Keen and wife Ann; sister. Mary Robinson; nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, November 04, 2004 at Earthman Funeral Directors, 3919 Garth. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 6, 2004 at the Evergreen Cemetery in Gulfport, Mississippi.

Charlie Ewell Hignite

Charlie Ewell Hignite, 89 of Baytown, passed away at his residence on Sunday night. Visitation will be held from 5pm-9pm on Thursday at Sterling-White Chapel in Highlands. Funeral Services will be held at 10am Friday at Sterling-White Chapel in Highlands with Rev. Jim Nash officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at Oakland Cemetery in Clarksville, AR on Saturday.

Charlie was born on August 17, 1915 in Ozone, AR to parents John Thomas Hignite and Polly Jane Ritchie. He married Dorothy E. "Betty" Baxter in Clarksville, AR on January 1, 1939. Charlie hobbies included being a Beekeeper and Rancher. He had also worked as a Senior Accounting Analyst for Exxon-Mobil. He was a member of the American Beekeepers Association for 61 years and a member of the Texas Beekeepers Association. Charlie was also a Mason and a member of the Exxon-Mobil Retirees Association.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years Dorothy E. “Betty” Hignite of Baytown, son Charles Ewell Hignite and wife Linda of San Jose, CA, daughters Patricia Ruthella Silvey of Stafford, TX, Wanda Nell Bourgeois and husband E.J. of Knoxville, TN, Betty Jeanne Hignite of Huffman, TX and Joyce Ann Thornburgh and husband Patrick of Helena, OK, brother Floyd Hignite and wife Helen of Clarksville, AR, sisters Bessie Langdon of Ozone, AR and Amy Hignite of Hartman, AR, grandchildren James Lee Silvey, Rebecca Lynn Elkins, Quint Carson Bourgeois, Shelly Marie Bourgeois, Steven Charles Robertson, David Keith Robertson, Bryan Wesley Thornburgh and Tricia Denise Blatchford and his great-grandchildren Danny Elkins, Christopher Silvey, Bryn Robertson, Arden Robertson, Keith Robertson and Blake Robertson. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
