Charles Eugene Flott
1937 - 2013
A service for Charles Eugene Flott, 76, of Alba will be held at a later date.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home, Alba.

Mr. Flott died November 12, 2013, at his residence. He was born May 26, 1937, in Topeka, Kansas, to Charles Laverne and Velma Walker Flott.

He married Dixie Deines on June 10, 1955, in Topeka, Kansas.

He lived most of his life in Topeka before moving to the Alba area in 2007.

He was a mechanic and worked for Goodyear Tire Company in Topeka and Santa Fe.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dixie Flott of Alba; daughter, Carman Allen of Holton, Kansas; son, Todd Flott of Carrollton; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Kevin Flott and Timothy Flott; and brother, Gary Flott.

Boe Justin Kellogg
1965 - 2013
A memorial service for Boe Justin Kellogg, 48, of Point was held at Spur On Ministry, outside Mineola on Hwy. 37, on November 18.

Mr. Kellogg was born January 7, 1965, in Provo, Utah, to Robert Douglas and Derlene Whittaker Kellogg.

He died at his residence on November 12, 2013.

He married Randa Michelle Kinshen in St. Petersburg, Florida, on Aug. 28, 2004.

He was the father of five wonderful sons and he was a barrel horse trainer.

He is survived by his wife, Randa Kellogg of Point; sons, Hays, Jake, Jared, Jace and Jett all of Point; parents, Bob and Dolly Kellogg of Salt Lake City, Utah; sisters, Kim Craig of Payson, Utah, Heather Kellogg of Lehi, Utah, Kellie Pugh of Orem, Utah, Sherri Soth of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Janice Kellogg of Heber City, Utah; brothers, Guy Kellogg of New Mexico, Ross Kellogg of Emory and Nate Kellogg of New Mexico; and numerous other loving family and friends.

G.D. Phillips
1924 – 2013
Services for G.D. Phillips, 89, of Grand Saline were held on November 17 at Bartley Funeral Home with Steve Weeks and Gary Fallis officiating.

Burial followed in Colony Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Gary Watson, Gene Wade, Bill McCutchen, Chano Palmerin, Bud Bryant and Tommy Wade.

Mr. Phillips died on November 14, 2013, in Mesquite.

He was born on October 30, 1924, in Alba to Ernest Luther and Ora Mae Foster Phillips.

He served in the U.S. Navy, was a member of the Kaufman Lions Club and played with Al Hesson and The Sons of the Alamo in his earlier days.

Mr. Phillips was a Gospel minister who served churches of Christ at Pilot Grove, Emory, Alba, Quinlan, Wentworth, Dallas and Kaufman.

Survivors include his wife, Opal Phillips of Mesquite; son and daughter-in-law, John and Lisa Phillips of Grand Saline; three daughters and a son-in-law, Margaret Phillips of Mc-Kinney, Barbara Phillips of Mineola and Sarah and Chano Palmerin of Grand Saline; brother, Larry Phillips of Arkansas; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Maury Lee Phillips; daughter, Katherine Sue; an infant son, George Douglas; and son, Kenneth Wayne Phillips.

Oleta Terry-Potter
1935 - 2013
Oleta Terry-Potter, of Mesquite, died on Sunday, October 27, 2013. She was born to Cleon and Cora Pippin Spradling in the County Line community of Rains County on October 13, 1935.

She was baptized in a stock pond and joined Daugherty Baptist Church in 1948, where she continued to be a member for the remainder of her life.

Oleta attended grade school and junior high at Daugherty and Miller Grove, and graduated from Emory High School in 1953.

She and Hubert Terry were married June 5, 1953, in the Daugherty community.

Oleta’s work history included Employers Insurance of Dallas, a greeter for the Farmers Market of Dallas at the State Fair of Texas for several years and retired in 2004 from Grace United Methodist Church, where she served as secretary to the pastor for 20 years.

She and Hubert served the youth of Mesquite for over 20 years by involvement with Mesquite baseball, Mesquite PeeWee football, City of Mesquite basketball, the Boys Club, Boy Scouts and the PTA, for which they both were awarded honorary life memberships. Mr. Terry died in December of 1990.

Oleta married Herbert Potter on January 13, 1996. She and Herbert continued to make their home in Mesquite.

She is survived by her husband, Herbert Potter of Mesquite; sons, Kevin and Diane Terry and Kyle Terry, all of Mesquite; grandchildren, Michael and wife Kathleen and Erin; cousins; nieces; nephews; and a host of friends.

In addition to her first husband she was also preceded in death by her parents; brother, Bobby Henry Spradling in 1930.

Memorials may be made to the Daugherty Baptist Church in Emory.

Sallie Jane Hebisen
1931 – 2014
Funeral services for Sallie Jane Hebisen, 83, were held on July 31 at Mabank Church of Christ with Bob Patterson officiating.

Mrs. Hebisen died on July 28, 2014. She was born June 15, 1931, in Irving to Claude and Ester Weatherly.

She married Bob Hebisen on June 2, 1949.

She owned a beauty shop in Irving, then worked for Southwest Fabrics in Dallas until retirement.

She was a longtime member of Mabank Church of Christ.

She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend who will be missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her daughter, Nancy Garcia; sons, Robert Hebisen and William Hebisen; 10 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by husband Robert (Bob) Hebisen; her parents; and her siblings.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either Mabank Church of Christ or The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in her memory.

Eubank Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

John Marvin Northcutt
1923 – 2014
Services for John Marvin Northcutt, 91, of Emory are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 6, at Smyrna Union Church with Rev. Montie L. Parker Sr. officiating.

Burial will follow in Smyrna Cemetery. Mike Daily, Don Moses, DeWayne Northcutt, Dale Royal, Brian Royal and Ronnie Northcutt will serve as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers will be John Huizar, James Moon, JonMarc Moon and David Alan Northcutt.

Mr. Northcutt died on August 2, 2014, at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital in Sulphur Springs.

He was born on January 31, 1923, in Van Zandt County to Alex and Panthea Read Northcutt.

He married Frances “Dude” Harrell in Emory on December 24, 1941, with Rev. Albert A. Clark officiating.

He lived most of his life and attended school in and near the Dunbar, Smyrna and Rocky Point communities.

As a building contractor, he built many homes in Emory and surrounding areas and served as the building inspector for the City of Emory since 1997. He was the recipient of the Emory Lions Club Citizen of the Year award in 2010.

Additionally, he served on and chaired multiple boards, including South Rains Water Supply Corporation, Smyrna Cemetery Association and Rocky Point Community Center.

He was actively involved in the Rains County Historical Society and many other community and volunteer activities and was a regular participant at the “Table of Knowledge” at a local restaurant.

Survivors include a son, Jasper Northcutt of Emory; daughters, Alice Northcutt of Springfield, Missouri, Virginia Northcutt and Avis (Chio) Huizar both of Emory; brothers, David “Bud” (Joyce) Northcutt and Oren (Linda) Northcutt both of Emory; sisters, Violet High and Nelda Paschall both of Mesquite, Hazel Hashop of Florida, and Nola Royal of Wills Point; sister-in-law, Murline Hogue of Emory; grandchildren, Toni (Roger) Gambill of Leonard, Teresa Huizar of Washington, D.C., Christina Huizar and John Huizar both of Austin; and great-grandsons, James Moon and JonMarc Moon both of Altus, Oklahoma.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Frances Harrell Northcutt; brother, James (Jim) Northcutt; and sisters, Adell Northcutt, Sybil Nail, Vera Byram, Reba Daily and Nellie Frances (infant).

Visitation is scheduled for 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 5, at the funeral home.

Donations may be made to the Smyrna Union Cemetery, PO Box 563, Emory, TX 75440; or Rocky Point Community Center, 787 RCR 2220, Emory, TX 75440.

Services are under the direction of Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home of Emory.

Marsha Ann Garmon Potts
1950 – 2014
Funeral services for Marsha Ann Garmon Potts, 64, of Miller Grove were held on August 2 at West Oaks Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lanny Bridges and Rev. Wayne Darty officiating.

Interment was in Miller Grove Cemetery with Ricky Jennings, Teddy Jennings, Gary Jennings, Blake Garmon, Wesley Potts and Will McCullough serving as pallbearers.

Ms. Potts died on July 29, 2014, in Greenville.

She was born on June 25, 1950, in Greenville to Paul W. Garmon Sr. and Sarah June Ross Garmon.

She was the manager of customer service at Farmers Electric (FEC) for 26 years.

She was a member of County Line Baptist Church.

She is survived by her mother; children, Bradley Potts and wife Karen of Murchison, Bryan Potts and wife Estrella of Greenville, Lori McCullough and husband Scott; brothers, Paul W. “Woody” Garmon Jr. of Miller Grove, Russ Garmon of Lone Oak; and grandchildren, Wesley Potts, Lainey McCullough, Libby McCullough, Natalie Potts and Will McCullough.

She was preceded in death by her father.

The family requests that memorials be made to the FEC Scholarship Fund, 2000 I-30E, Greenville, TX 75402.

Vannie Robinson
1948 – 2014
A funeral service for Vannie Robinson, 65, of Emory is scheduled for Saturday, August 9, at 1:00 p.m. at Emory Baptist Church.

Apostle Dwight Smith and Pastor Ronald Garcia will officiate.

Interment will be in Hopewell Cemetery.

Mrs. Robinson died Friday, August 1, 2014, at ETMC Hospital of Tyler.

She was born on November 28, 1948, in Emory to Hubert and Irene Thornton Robinson Sr.

She retired in 2014, after working for many years as a cook for the Rains County Jail.

She was a member of Jacksonville Community Church of Deliverance.

Mrs. Robinson is survived by daughters, Patrice Garcia and husband Ronald B. of San Antonio and Tiffiny Davis of Emory; brothers, Hubert Robinson Jr. and wife Willie of Emory and John L. Robinson and wife Rose of Como; sisters, Ellen McKnight and husband Leonard of Dallas, Sandy Givens of Garland and Carolyn Brooks of Point; grandchildren, Joselyn Davis, Alexandria Garcia, Brenton Garcia and Demetrik Hobbs; and numerous other loving family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Callie Johnson; brother, Herman Robinson; and nephew, Edwin Robinson.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church from 12:00 noon-1:00 p.m.
