Stanley McComic

Orange - Robert Stanley McComic, 83, of Orange, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010, at Baptist Orange Hospital. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, at Claybar Funeral Home Chapel in Orange. Officiating will be the Rev. Kevin Trinkle of Baptist Hospital. Burial will follow at Dorman Cemetery on Tulane Road in Orange. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today, at the funeral home.

Stanley was born in Wichita County on Oct. 17, 1926. He was the son of E.B. and Willie McComic. Stanley was an offshore maintenance supervisor for Mobil Oil for 34 years and was also a member of the A.A.R.P. organization.

Stanley is survived by his wife of 62 years, Luella McComic; daughters and sons-in-law, Debby and Tommy Griffith and Vicky and Jesse Trahan; and son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Ronda McComic.

He is also survived by his seven grandchildren, Stacey, Rhonda, Tisha, Heath, Jenny, MaRanda and Krissy; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Serving as pallbearers will be Dustin Badon, Todd Morrison, Brian Jackson, Heath Jinks, Joe Stephenson and Scott Sandifer. Honorary pallbearer will be Rodney Badon.

Vera Bernice Glenn Say

Beaumont - Vera Bernice Glenn Say, 90, went to be with her Savior on Feb. 21, 2010. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 24, at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves. Visitation will be 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Vera was born Feb. 19, 1920 in Bessmay, Texas to Douglas Glenn and Tennessee Sheppard Glenn,

A longtime resident of Groves, Bernice was an excellent homemaker who enjoyed cooking, sewing, knitting, and painting. She was a member of Eastern Star and a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Bridge City. For the past seven years, Bernice lived at Hotel Beaumont and was blessed to have very supportive caregivers. She will be loved and missed by her family and friends.

Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leslie Wayne Say; and her sister, Jimmie Glenn Boissey.

She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Say Puntes and husband, Bobby; son, Michael Wayne Say and wife, Elaine; five granddaughters, Laura Say Spore, Cathy Say Gantt and husband, Cliff, Leslie Say Welsh, Paula Puntes Richey, and Robin Puntes Ankeny and husband, Jeff; six great-grandchildren, Joshua Spore, Jessica Spore, Austin Gantt, Madison Gantt, Jackson Ankeny, and Luke Ankeny. Bernice is also survived by her sister, Mozelle Glenn Lanclos.

Pallbearers include Jeff Ankeny, Cliff Gantt, Joshua Spore, Raymond Lanclos, Nick Nichols, and Bob Todd.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Bernice’s memory can be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.

Caroline Tarver

Orange - Caroline Tarver, 85, of Orange passed away on Saturday, July 17, 2010 at St. Elizabeth Hospital. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 20 from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Dorman Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memory Gardens near Bridge City.

She was a native of Brooklyn, New York; born on Aug. 28, 1924 to parents Matteo Mannelli and Blanche Pastore Mannelli. She lived in the Orange area for over 45 years. She loved to stay active; cooking for her family, crocheting, playing gin rummy with her granddaughter, playing the piano, making homemade jellies/crafts and she loved to go dancing every week. She was a very kind and giving person; who enjoyed making people laugh and talking to friends in Italian. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family, especially all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Tarver was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend who will be missed dearly by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Matteo and Blanche Mannelli; her husband of 41 years, Elbert “Cotton” Tarver; brothers, Nicholas Mannelli, Ulderico Mannelli; and sister, Tina Mannarino.

To cherish her memory are her daughters, Judy Choate-Rumby and husband Russell, Rena Choate, Jackie Spears and husband Jack, all of Orange; sons, John R. Ardoin and wife Marilyn and Allen Tarver all of Orange; stepdaughter, Sherry McGraw and husband Tommy of Leander, Texas; sisters, Mary Petrone and husband Carl of Delanson, N.Y.; Nina DeStefano, Blanche Santacroce and husband Joe, all of Long Island, N.Y., Josephine Zambuto of Levittown, N.Y.; brother, Matthew Destefano and wife Betty of Long Island, N.Y.; brother-in-law Donald Tarver and wife Rose; and sister-in-law Marie Tarver.

Also surviving her are 13 grandchildren, Aimee Tait and husband John, Bryan Weickersheimer and wife Krista, Felicia Todd, Robert Choate, Jennifer Todd, Kaycee Spears, John R. Ardoin and wife Savannah, James Ardoin and wife Michelle, Joseph Ardoin, Carolina Ardoin, Chris Ochoa, Monica Vega, T.J. McGraw; 16 great-grandchildren, Wesley Weickersheimer, Connor and Brycen Tait, Skylar Ardoin, Jeremiah Ardoin, Kane and Devin Jones, Kimberly Todd, Billy and Jessie Jones, Brendon Choate, Melissa and Angelica Castro, Sebastian Vega, Julian Cecil and Lane Ochoa and two great-grandchildren, Cindy Todd and Jenlyn Jones

Cecil Drew “C.D.” Cole

Orange - Cecil Drew “C.D.” Cole, 74, of Orange, passed away Saturday, July 24, 2010 at his residence. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 27 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Orange. The Rev. Joseph P. Daleo will be the celebrant. Rite of committal will follow at Wilkinson Cemetery in Little Cypress. A gathering of family and friends will be from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m., Monday with a Christian wake to be held on Monday evening at Dorman Funeral Home in Orange.

Born on April 29, 1936 in Merryville, La. to his parents, Joseph Cole and Vera (Posey) Cole, he served his country in the Army in the 101st Airborne Division as a paratrooper and a trainer. He was discharged in 1963 and came to Orange shortly thereafter. C.D. worked as a policeman in Orange and later as an area maintenance supervisor for CITGO Petroleum Corporation in Lake Charles, where he was affectionately known as “Pop Cole” among his co-workers. He retired in 1992. After retirement he continued to work in various positions, helping many others.

C.D. also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, watching them play baseball and many other activities. He was a man who enjoyed the outdoors and fishing. He enjoyed deer hunting in his earlier years. C.D.’s family will treasure his love, kindness and understanding; for his way of being there for others and the care he showed for them.

C.D. is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Frankie Cole; sisters, Beverly Fletcher and Peggy Smith; and his brothers, Robert and Bill Cole.

Those who will most cherish his memory are his loving wife of 25 years, Sandra Cole of Orange; daughters, Pat Cole of Tucson, Ariz. and Beth Sonnier of Orange; sons, Johnny Vayon and wife Deborah of Conroe and Randy Vayon and wife, Charmaine of Orangefield; grandchildren, Courtney Sonnier, Tanna Vayon, Tyler Vayon, Jake Sonnier and Carlee Vayon. C.D. is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Denise Marie Cormier

Vidor - Denise M. Cormier, 47, of Vidor passed away on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at her resident. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 24 at American Housing Apartments 205 Vidor Drive, in Vidor. Cremation under the direction of Dorman Funeral Home.

She was a native Georgia; born on Aug. 10, 1962 to parents JoAnn ( Jackson ) Cormier and Farrier Cormier. She had lived the last two years in the Vidor area. She was kind and a giving person; she was a loving mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend who will be missed dearly by all.

She is preceded in death by her mother, JoAnn Cormier.

She is survived by her father, Farrier Cormier of Orange; sister, Tracy Cormier of Orange; sons, Wayne Joyce of Atlanta, Ga., twins, Stephen Craig and Greg Alan Cormier; nieces, Triche Walker, Brandy Hornsby; friend, Tina Garcia of Austin; nephew, Kevin Hewgley, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Dennis E. Callens

Orange - Dennis E. Callens, of Orange, died at his home. Graveside service will be 1 p.m., Thursday, July 29, 2010, at St. Mary Cemetery in Orange. There will be no visitation.

Born in Shelbyville, Dennis was the son of Edward Norman Callens and Betty Jean (Cline) Callens. He was a retired boilermaker with the boilermaker’s union and had served in the National Guard.

Preceded in death by his wife, Ann Marie Callens, Dennis is survived by his sisters, Carolyn Lewis of Mansfield and Betty Ann Johnson of Onalaska; numerous nieces, nephews cousins; and special friends, Donnie Jackson and Mason Smith.

Edward L. Fisher

Vidor - Edward L. Fisher, 62, of Vidor died Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at his residence. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 26 at Restlawn Memorial Park of Vidor under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor. Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 25 at the funeral home.

A lifelong resident of Vidor, he served his country in the U.S. Army.

Edward is survived by his son, Edward Lynn Fisher Jr. and wife Summer; daughter, Lesa Marie Keen and husband Clayton; brothers, James W. Fisher and Kenneth W. Fisher; sisters, Donna A. Fisher and Linda J. Fisher; four grandchildren: Casey Allen Keen, Colby Edward Keen, Trenton Lynn Fisher, and Shae Sherie Fisher, all of Vidor.

Johnny A. Sarth Jr.

Orange - John Arthur Sarth Jr., 69, of Orange, died Sunday, July 25, 2010, at VA Hospital in Houston. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 3 at Claybar Funeral Home Chapel in Orange with the Rev. W.W. Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Orange. Visitation will be from noon - 2 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.

Born in Port Arthur on Dec. 5, 1940, Johnny was the son of John Arthur Sarth Sr. and Ruby (Harris) Sarth. He served in the Navy during 1958-1961. Johnny also worked as a mechanic for Eastern Airlines.

Preceded in death by his daughter, Kimberly Sue Babington - Rendon; Johnny is survived by his son, Michael Auffurth of Port Neches; daughters, Julie Sarth and Nancy Sarth of Florida and Melissa Sarth of Texas; and former wife, Barbara Weeks.

Also surviving are his nine grandchildren, Elizabeth Mulleni and Ashley Horne of Florida, Amy Babington, Riki Babington, Tamara Rendon, Jadelynn Touchette, Katie Touchette, Morgan Sarth and Stormy Sarth of Texas; seven great-grandchildren, Dalton Vercher, Chastance Vercher, Chace Vercher, Presley Babington, Jack Babington, Barbra Babington and Kimberly Babington; and brother, George Zirlott of Orange.

Serving as pallbearers will be George Zirlott Jr., Joseph Williamson, Juan Rendon, Michael Auffurth, Josh Cheatwood and Riki Babington.

Linda M. Mullett

Vidor - Linda M. Mullett, 59, of Vidor died Friday, July 23, 2010 at Baptist Hospital of Southeast Texas in Beaumont. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 27 at Haven of Rest Cemetery in China, Texas.

A native of Beaumont, she was a longtime resident of Vidor. Linda was a homemaker.

Linda is survived by her husband, Donald Williamson; sons, Vincent Mullett of Dallas and Christopher Chambless of Houston; daughters, Shelia Frederick of Fannett, Katie Chambless of Vidor; stepdaughters Red Mullett-Miles of Buna and Rose Mary Mullett; mother, Juanita Bailey of Vidor; brothers, Lester Spell Jr of China, James Bailey of Vidor, and Ernest Spell; sisters, Cindy Starks and June Bailey. both of Vidor and Dorothy Spell of Arkansas; and three stepgrandchildren.

Marion Dempsey Burch

Orange - Marion Dempsey Burch, 88, of Orange died Saturday, July 24, 2010, at Beaumont Nursing and Rehabilitation in Beaumont. Funeral services will be 3 p.m., Monday, July 26, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be the Rev. Jeff Bell of Calvary Baptist Church in Port Acres. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Orange. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m., Sunday at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

Born in Orange on Aug. 18, 1921, Marion was the son of Gertie J. (Rosenbaum) and Mark T. Burch. He was a past member of the Cove ISD school board, a member of Cove Baptist Church, and he served in the Army during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gertie and Mark; sisters, Myrtie Michael and Blanch Titus; and first wife, Louise Burch.

Marion is survived by his wife, Idafaye Burch; son, James Burch and his wife, Beverly of Grenada, Miss.; grandchildren, James Robert and Mike Burch; great-grandchildren Anthony and Jeremy Burch, Steve and Richard Bowers; five great-great-grandchildren; and brother, Dennis Burch and his wife, Ruby.

Mary Owens Gray

Orange - Mary Owens Gray, 91, of Orange died Thursday, July 15, 2010, at the Sabine House. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Sunday, July 18 at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be the Rev. Barry Bradley of First Baptist Church in Orange. Burial will follow at Orange Forest Lawn Cemetery in West Orange. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m., Saturday at the funeral home.

Born in Buna on Feb. 25, 1919, Mrs. Gray was the daughter of Annie Elizabeth (Minyard) and Guy Lee Owens. She was a nurse. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Orange and the Dupont Retirees Group.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Gray, and is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Melvin James Bartley Sr.

Mauriceville - Melvin James Bartley Sr., 73, of Mauriceville, went on to be with our Lord on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at Christus Hospital – St. Elizabeth in Beaumont. A memorial service to remember his life will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 27 at the Silver Oaks Baptist Church, 16460 F M 1442 (in the Mauriceville community). Officiating will be the Rev. Ed Rawls and the Rev. Lee Thomas. The family will gather at the church at 10 a.m. to visit with friends. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Dorman Funeral Home in Orange.

Born on Aug. 14, 1936 in East Chicago, Ind. to his parents, Ralph Bartley and Stella Irene (Thomas) Bartley, he was a longtime resident of the area. Mel worked as a press and sheer operator for Levingston Shipbuilding Company in Orange. He retired from Trinity Industries in Beaumont. Mel was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and was a member of Silver Oaks Baptist Church in Mauriceville. Mel was a man who enjoyed the outdoors– hunting, fishing and camping. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and working crossword puzzles. Mel enjoyed his occupation very much and he took absolute pride in his work.

Preceding Mel in death are his parents; son, Billie Bartley; grandson, Jamie McKnight; brother, Jack Bartley; and his son-in-law, Edward McKnight.

Those who will most cherish his memory are his loving wife of 54 years, June (Fairbanks) Bartley of Mauriceville; children, Melvin Bartley Jr. and wife Marie of Elkhorn, Wis, Sue Ann McKnight Bartley of Lindale, Texas and Garry Bartley of Orange; sisters, Marilyn Jackson and husband, Red and Lianne Brown and husband, Ron; sister-in-law, Opal Bartley; his grandchildren, Josh Bartley and wife, Amanda, Rachel Bartley, Brandi Donnund, Courtney Bartley, Heather Keithsley and husband, Tim, Amy McKnight; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Melvin Roy Wilks

Moss Buff, La. - Melvin Roy Wilks, 59, of Moss Bluff, La., died Tuesday, July 27, 2010, in the comfort of his home. Funeral services were July 29 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel in Lake Charles with the Rev. Jon C. Hair officiating. Interment was in Ritchie Cemetery.

Mr. Wilks lived most of his life in the Lake Charles area and was a graduate of Marion High School and McNeese State University. He retired as warehouse supervisor after nearly 20 years of service for Gulf States Utilities/Entergy. Following his retirement, he owned and operated Three-Way Tire and Alignment in Bridge City.

Mr. Wilks was an avid sports fan; football, basketball, baseball and golf. He loved it all and was especially partial to the Denver Broncos and the LSU Tigers. During his younger years, he enjoyed fishing and hunting.

He will be greatly missed, leaving to honor his memory, his mother, Maxine Chapman Wilks of Moss Bluff; one daughter, Cindy Morse and husband Toney of Sulphur, La.; one son, Jamie Wilks and wife Susan of Sulphur; four grandchildren, Ariel, Brooks and Tristan Morse and Reece Wilks, all of Sulphur; one brother, Jerry Wilks of Moss Bluff; one sister, Barbara Fowler of Moss Bluff; and ex-wife and friend, Sue Wilks of Bridge City.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bobby G. Wilks.

Nancy Sue Theresa Ramsey

Bridge City - Nancy Sue Theresa Ramsey, 57, of Bridge City died Thursday, July 29, 2010, at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 1, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be the Rev. George Kidangen of St. Helen Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Orange. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m., Saturday, with a rosary at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Born in Orange on June 5, 1953, Nancy was the daughter of Mary Christine (Miller) and Wilson Joseph LeBlanc. She worked as a child care provider at Kids Safari in Bridge City.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Wilson; and nephew, Mark LeBlanc.

Nancy is survived by her husband, Doyle Ramsey; daughter, Vanessa Buckland and husband William of Orangefield; grandchild Nakona Buckland; brother Willard LeBlanc of Hemphill; and sisters, Judy Nix of Sulphur, La., and Betty Shiver of Orangefield.

Neva Nelle Aven

Orange - Mrs. Neva N. Aven, 89, of Orange passed away on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 24 at Dorman Funeral Home, with Barry Jones, minister Ninth and Elm Church of Christ and Travis Aven of Sulphur Springs officiating. Burial will follow at Autumn Oaks Memorial Park. A visitation will be held on Friday from 5-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

She was a native of Seymore, Texas; born on March 1, 1921 to parents William B. Tanton and Emma S. Milner. She had lived in the Orange area for 65 plus years and was a member of Ninth and Elm Church of Christ. She retired from Weingarten’s as a cashier after 20 years of employment. Her joy in life was reading and cooking on Sunday. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Emma Tanton; husband, R.E. “Ray” Aven Sr.; sister, Mozzelle Sartin; brothers, Joe Tanton, W.B. “Dub” Tanton, Buford Tanton; and her great-grandson, Riley Hickey.

She is survived by her sons, R.E. “Bobby” Aven Jr. and wife Nina, Billy Aven and wife Kathy, all of West Orange, Bert Aven and wife Mary of Sulphur, La., Tommy Aven and wife Vicki of Pearland; sister, Mildred Hinton of Arbala, Texas; sister-in-law, Virginia Tanton of Sulphur Springs, Texas; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Raleigh Frank Williams

Orange - Raleigh Frank Williams, 72, of Orange, passed away Monday, July 26, 2010 at the Harbor Hospital of Southeast Texas in Orange. Funeral services to remember his life will be at 10 a.m., Friday, July 30 in the Chapel of Dorman Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be Chaplain Kevin Trinkle. Interment will follow in Autumn Oaks Memorial Park in Orange. A gathering of family and friends for a time of reflection will be from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Born on April 22, 1938 in Palestine, Texas to his parents, Harold R. Williams Sr. and Anna Maudine (Neal) Williams, he was a longtime resident of the Orange area. He graduated from Orangefield High School in 1956 and he worked as a maintenance mechanic for the DuPont – Sabine River Works Plant in Orange for 32 years, where he retired in 1992. Raleigh also proudly served his country as a veteran of the Army, where while on assignment in Germany, he met and married the love of his life, Anita Toni Filz.

Raleigh was a mentor, friend and sharer of wisdom to many people. He enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, travel and he could fix just about anything.

Preceded in death by his parents, Raleigh is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Anita Williams of Orange; daughter, Susan Hart of Orange; son, Jeff Williams and wife Kimberly of Orange; brothers, Harold Williams Jr and wife Virginia, Jerald Williams and wife Linda, Steven Williams and wife Barbara and John Williams and wife Connie all of Orange; five grandchildren, Amber Williams, Josef Stephenson, Jacob Stephenson, Jessica Williams and Derek Hart; five great-grandchildren, Kaine Martin, Jakeb Pittman, Emma Williams, Ava Stephenson and Ellie Stephenson.

Honoring Raleigh as pallbearers are Brian Williams, Randy Williams, Tommy Williams, Matt Shelton, Jake Stephenson and Joe Stephenson.
