Nov. 12, 1936 — March 21, 2003

WACO — Services for Bernice Person, 66, of Waco are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Macedonia Baptist Church in Caldwell.

Rev. Dolphus Jones will officiate. Burial will be in the Roland Cemetery in Caldwell.

Arrangements are under the direction of Jones Funeral Home in Caldwell.

Mrs. Person died Friday at Scott & White in Temple.

She was born in Bryan and was a homemaker. She was a deaconess and member of the Macedonia Baptist Church in Caldwell.

Survivors include her husband, Hardy Person Sr. of Waco; two sons, Hardy Person Jr. and Jarvis Person; a daughter, Sherry Krouser; a brother, Levon Owens, a sister, Jessie Henderson; her parents, C.D. Lewis and Martha Jones; and seven grandchildren.

Abraham Orozco
1930 – 2003

Service for Deacon Abraham Ortega Orozco, 73, of Bryan are set for 11 am Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bryan.

The Most Reverend Bishop Gregory Aymond, Monsignor John McCaffrey of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Bryan, Monsignor Tom Franks of San Jose Parish in Austin and Father Pedro Garcia of St. Ann Catholic Church in Somerville will officiate.

Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Bryan. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church and from 8 to 10:30 am Tuesday at Memorial Funeral Chapel of Bryan. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 pm Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Deacon Orozco died Saturday at Sheridan on Anderson. He was born in Washington County and lived in Bryan for 45 years. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, was ordained a deacon in the Austin Diocese in July 1984 and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. After retiring from operating his own company, A.O. Orozco Fencing Co., he was a driver for the Brazos Valley Transit.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gonzalo and Josepha Ortega Orozco, one sister Atanasia Orozco; one brother George Orozco. He is survived by his wife Aurelia Orozco of Bryan; five children, Joseph and Joanne Orozco of Bryan, Mary O. Vallejo of Bryan, John Edward and Pearl Orozco of Hilo, Hawaii, Carl A. and Christine Orozco of Bryan, and James C. and Lori Orozco of Round Rock. Three brothers, Lorenzo Orozco of Austin, Ben Orozco and Mike Orozco of Bryan; five sisters Marcos Vega of Snook, Lupe Arredondo of Somerville, Domatila Portales of College Station, Marcelina Maldonado of Somerville, Mary Robeldo of Austin and Phyliss Garcia of Houston. Eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Evelyn Emory
March 31, 1924 — March 23, 2003

Services for Evelyn Emory, 78, of Bryan are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Harmony Baptist Church in Normangee.

The Rev. M.L. “Bud” Magee of Harmony Baptist Church will officiate. Private burial will be in Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery in Houston.

Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Memorial Funeral Chapel College Station.

Mrs. Emory died Sunday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

She was born in Hillsboro and lived in Bryan 35 years. She was a member of Harmony Baptist Church and retired from American Life and Casualty Insurance Company in 1995.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Joe Emory; and a daughter, Toni Darby.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Ginger and Doug Franks of Normangee; a brother and sister-in-law, Hulon and Ruby Beacham of Channelview; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Betty and Steve Byerly of New Caney and Geraldine Roberts of Bryan; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Virginia Lee Hilton
May 19, 1918 — March 24, 2003

BUFFALO — Services for Virginia Lee Hilton, 84, of Oakwood are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Buffalo Funeral Home.

Brother Jack Smith of the Calvary Christian Center will officiate. Burial will be in the Oakwood City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hilton died Monday at her home.

She was born in Houston and lived in Oakwood two years. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Lynard Anderson and Ernest Hilton.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, John E. and Yvonne Anderson of Marshall, William E. and Pat Anderson of Hindsville, Ark., and Michael and Charlene Anderson of Splendora; two step-sons and a daughter-in-law, Gene and Linda Hilton of Houston and Ronnie Hilton of Centerville; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Marjorie F. Thompson of Sealy, Patricia M. Scherer of Cleveland, Kathryn A. and Donald McMillan of Porter, and Norma L. and Alan Bardo of Madison, Maine; a step-daughter and son-in-law, Annette and Doug Rushing of Houston; 28 grandchildren; and 44 great-grandchildren.

Melanie Dee Prescott
Nov. 15, 1962 — March 22, 2003

Services for Melanie Dee Prescott, 40, of Austin are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Callaway-Jones Chapel in Bryan.

The Rev. Wayne Graham will officiate. Burial will be in the College Station Cemetery.

Ms. Prescott died Saturday in Austin.

She was born in Houston and lived in Austin six years. She graduated from Pearland High School and worked for Price Compressors for 12 years. She was a member of Park Place Baptist Church in Houston, the United Daughters of 1812 and the Daughters of the American Revolution — the Lady of Washington Chapter.

Survivors include her parents, Billy and Janie Price of Houston; a sister and brother-in-law, Amy and Stan Proctor of Houston; two nephews; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Melanie Dee Prescott
November 15, 1962 — March 22, 2003

Melanie Dee Prescott, 40, of Austin passed away Saturday, March 22, 2003. She was born in Houston, TX on November 15, 1962. She graduated from Pearland High School and worked for Price Compressors for 12 years. She was a member of Park Place Baptist Church in Houston, the United Daughters of 1812 and the Daughters of the American Revolution - The Lady of Washington Chapter.

Survivors include her parents, Billy & Janie Price of Houston. A sister & brother-in-law, Amy & Stan Proctor of Houston, 2 nephews, Nicholas & Spencer Proctor of Houston, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Earl C. Parker and Mr. & Mrs. Horace Price.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Monday at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2003 at Callaway-Jones Chapel with interment to follow at College Station Cemetery.

Donald Ray Barrett Sr.
Dec. 25, 1940 — March 21, 2003

MADISONVILLE — Graveside services for Donald Ray Barrett Sr., 62, of Midway are set for 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Midway City Cemetery.

Terry Bryan will officiate.

Visitation will be immediately preceding the services at the cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of J.M. Day Funeral Home in Madisonville.

Mr. Barrett died Friday at his home.

He was born in Madisonville.

Survivors include his mother, Mina Barrett of Madisonville; three daughters and a son-in-law, Sandy and William Gill of Longview, Gail Morrisett of Houston and Debbie Halverson of Mesquite; a son and daughter-in-law, Donald Jr. and Angela Barrett of Fort Worth; a brother, Charles Robert Barrett of Tennessee; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Midway City Cemetery Association.

Weldon Ellis Brunette
Feb. 8, 1939 — March 22, 2003

FRANKLIN — Services for Weldon Ellis Brunette, 64, of Franklin are set for 1 p.m. Tuesday at the McCauley Funeral Home Chapel in Franklin.

The Rev. Brent Ballew of New Baden will officiate. Burial will be in the New Baden Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Brunette died Saturday in Bryan.

He was born in New Baden and was a lifelong resident of Robertson County. He graduated from Franklin High School and served in the U.S. Army. He was employed as an electrician with the H.B. Zachary Company and was a farmer and rancher.

Survivors include two daughters, Kimberly Brunette of Waller and Michele Richardson of Katy; two sons and daughters-in-law, J.R. and Carlotta Davis and Jack and Sherry Davis, all of Franklin; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Annie Hanna of Franklin, Earline Meadors of Bryan, Velma and Norman Francis of College Station and Delma and Bill Scasta of Wheelock; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Charles and Sue Brunette, Richard Brunette and Charlene Brunette, all of Franklin, and Vivian Brunette of Stamford; and four granddaughters.

Jean J. Holt
Aug. 28, 1923 — March 23, 2003

Services for Jean J. Holt, 79, of College Station are set for 3 p.m. Tuesday at the A&M Church of Christ in College Station.

Foree Grove and Bob Davidson of A&M Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will be in the College Station Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Memorial Funeral Chapel College Station.

Mrs. Holt died Sunday at St. Joseph Skilled Nursing Facility.

She was born in Selma, Ala., and lived in College Station since 1948. She attended David Lipscomb University and Auburn University, receiving a bachelor’s and master’s of science degree from Texas A&M University. She was an elementary school teacher for College Station ISD for 17 years. She was a member and taught Bible study at A&M Church of Church.

Survivors include her husband, Ethan C. Holt of College Station; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Sharon Holt of Bryan; a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Randy Decker of Houston; four sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law, Eula and Walter Logan of Haleyville, Ala., Myrtle and Curtis Self and Jewel Holt, all of Winifield, Ala., Florette Tyler of Richmond, Va., and Patrick A. Shelby of Birmingham, Ala.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the A&M Church of Christ Building Fund, Hospice Brazos Valley or to a charity of choice.
