Charles Roy Little
April 3, 1942 — March 16, 2003

ROSEBUD — Graveside services for Charles Roy Little, 60, of Thornton are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Little River Cemetery near Cameron.

The Rev. Billy Crow will officiate.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Cook-Gerngross-Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Rosebud.

Mr. Little died Sunday at his home.

He was born in Rosebud and was an electrician at Leggit & Platt-Mexia Bonded Fibers.

Survivors include his mother, Ivy Virginia Little of Thornton; a brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Cynthia Little of Rosebud; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Virginia and Bubba Bates of Franklin and Sue and Keith Clark of Richland.

Joel Scott Underwood
May 21, 1964 — March 15, 2003

MADISONVILLE — Services for Joel Scott Underwood, 38, of North Zulch are set for 4 p.m. Tuesday at the North Madison Church of Christ in Madisonville.

Lanier Stevens, Dale Underwood and David Underwood will officiate.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to the time of services Tuesday at the church.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Madisonville Funeral Home.

Mr. Underwood died Sunday at his home.

He was born in Victoria and lived in North Zulch five months, formerly living in Raton, N.M. He received an associate’s degree in liberal arts from Victoria College, worked as a courier for Federal Express and as a New Mexico Mounted Patrol Officer for six years. He was also a part- time song leader and preacher. He was a member of the North Madison Church of Christ.

Survivors include his parents, Gary M. and Marylyn Underwood of Victoria; his wife, Beth S. Underwood of North Zulch; two sons, Caleb S. Underwood and Jacob M. Underwood, both of North Zulch; a daughter, Breanna A. Valdez of North Zulch; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Gary G. and Shelly Underwood of Victoria, Dale L. and Karlene Underwood of Madisonville and David C. and Heather Underwood of San Marcos; a sister, Kristin J. Underwood of Victoria; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the American Brain Tumor Association, 2720 River Road, Des Plaines, Ill. 60018.

Alma Lynn Lee
March 8, 1935 — March 15, 2003

BUFFALO — Services for Alma Lynn Lee, 68, of Buffalo were held Monday at the Flo Community Baptist Church.

The Rev. Kenneth Stone officiated. Burial was in the Siloam Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Buffalo Funeral Home.

Mrs. Lee died Saturday at Cartmell Home for the Aged in Palestine.

She was born in Leon County and lived in Brazoria County for 34 years before her return to Leon County 17 years ago. She was a member of the Corinth Baptist Church and was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by a son, Larry Lee.

Survivors include her husband, Charlie Lee of the Flo community; a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Janet Lee of Houston; a daughter, Mary Johnson of Slocum; two sisters, Daphyne O’Brien of Oakwood and Dorothy Lee of Buffalo; four granddaughters; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Eva Lois Webb
July 12, 1941 — March 14, 2003

Services for Eva Lois Webb, 61, of Bryan are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Galilee Baptist Church in Bryan.

The Rev. John F. Foster Sr. of Galilee Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Willow Grove Cemetery in Brenham.

Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Jones-Washington Mortuary in Bryan.

Mrs. Webb died Friday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

She was born in Tenaha and lived in Bryan for 12 years. She was a licensed vocational nurse (LVN) and was a member of Galilee Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Everett Webb of Brenham and Ernest Webb of Bryan; four daughters, LaTreace Lewis, Denise Lane and Etta Callier, all of Bryan, and Zelda Moore of Independence; three brothers, Richard Riley, Lloyd Riley and Melvin Riley, all of Houston; two sisters, Tommie Joyce Chapel of Houston and Bettie Marie Chaudhary of Austin; her grandmother, Effie James of Longview; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Viola G. Woods
Sept. 21, 1912 — March 17, 2003

SOMERVILLE — Services for Viola G. Woods, 90, of Lyons are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at the Strickland Funeral Home Chapel in Somerville.

The Rev. Virgil Pecht will officiate. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., and from 8:30 a.m. to the time of services Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Woods died Monday in Trinity Medical Center in Brenham.

She was born in Burleson County near Lyons and worked for the Grocery Store and Variety Store in Somerville for 34 years. She was a lifelong member of Lone Oak Baptist Church, where she taught a Junior Sunday school class for many years. She was also a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 455 of Somerville.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Herman Green Jr. and Jesse Woods; a daughter, Joyce Elaine Nolen; and a son, Donald L. Green.

Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, George Lee and Ethel Jones of Milwaukee; a son-in-law, Doyle Nolen of Estes Park, Colo.; her niece and caretaker, Lois Smith and husband Joe; two grandsons; three great-grandchildren; numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Memorials may be made to Lone Oak Baptist Church Building Fund.

Billy Charles Wortham
Feb. 28, 1929 — March 17, 2003

HEARNE — Graveside services for Billy Charles Wortham, 74, of Franklin are set for 1 p.m. Wednesday at East Forrest Park Cemetery in Houston.

The Rev. Bubba Alfred of Bethany Baptist Church in the Blackjack community will officiate.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Heartfield Funeral Home in Hearne.

Mr. Wortham died Monday at his home.

He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church and lived in Franklin a few years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Lorraine Wortham of Franklin; a stepson and daughter-in-law, John and Patsy Williams of Magnolia; a stepdaughter and son-in-law, Carol and David Deboard of Franklin; a brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Gladys Wortham of Pearland; three grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Oliver C. Cooper Jr.
1922-2003

Dr. O.C. Cooper, age 80, of College Station, who practiced family medicine in Brazos County for nearly 50 years, passed away on March 15, 2003 in Bryan, Texas, from complications due to Alzheimer’s Disease. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in College Station, with Dr. Tim Owens, Rev. Dwight Edwards, and Dr. Rodney McGlothlin officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday and 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Funeral Chapel College Station. Burial will be in College Station Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Texas A&M System Health Science Center - Dr. and Mrs. O.C. Cooper Jr. Scholarship Fund, Hospice Brazos Valley or to Health For All.

Dr. Cooper was born July 23, 1922 in Bentley, Mississippi. He graduated from Union University in Jackson, TN, in 1943, and received his medical degree in 1946 from the University of Tennessee School of Medicine in Memphis, TN. He accepted a scholarship from the Commonwealth of Kentucky during his last year of medical school that obligated him to practice medicine in rural Kentucky for one year. Instead, Dr. Cooper stayed for five years. He moved to Bryan-College Station in 1952 when the Air Force transferred him to the Bryan Air Base. In 1954, after he finished his two-year stint, he established his own medical practice in Bryan, and later moved it to College Station. For the next 47 years, Dr. Cooper practiced medicine in the Brazos Valley area. He was Board Certified in Family Practice. In 1984 he was President of the Brazos-Robertson County Medical Association. He gave substantial amounts of his time and talents to the Health for All Clinic, and helped establish Hospice of Brazos Valley, being a charter member of its Board of Directors. Dr. Cooper also coordinated a medical intern program for Texas A&M University’s College of Medicine, and served on the college’s admissions board. In addition to his involvement in his medical practice and his service on numerous boards of organizations related to the medical field, he was a past President of the School Board of College Station I.S.D., and a deacon and member of First Baptist Church of College Station.

In 1987, Dr. Cooper was named Family Physician of the Year by his peers in the Texas Academy of Family Physicians. He was a member of the Academy of Family Physicians, Texas and American Medical Associations, the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine and the Christian Medical Association.

Dr. Cooper was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and his wife of 50 years, Mary Francis “Penny”. He leaves his three daughters, two sons, nine grandchildren, two brothers, three sisters and numerous nephews and nieces. Daughter Joy Cooper live in College Station. Daughter Debbie and her husband Jeff Andrick live in Bryan. Daughter Shelley and her husband, Judge Randy Michel, live in College Station. Dr. Cooper’s oldest son, David and his wife Karen, live in College Station. Youngest son John and his wife, Sandi, live in Lubbock, TX. His grandchildren are: Mark Michel of State College, PA; Neil Cooper of College Station; Natalie Michel of College Station; Meredith Cooper and Christian Cooper of College Station; Kelly Andrick and Will Andrick of Bryan; Kyle Cooper and Kaylee Cooper of Lubbock, TX.

He is also survived by his three sisters, Miriam Smith of Memphis, TN; Claire Vestal of Bryan; and Louise Hardy of Eunice, NM; and by his two brothers, Dr. James F. Cooper of Bryan, and Bryan Cooper of Burns, TN.

Oliver C. ‘O.C.’ Cooper Jr.
July 23, 1922 — March 15, 2003

Services for Dr. Oliver C. “O.C.” Cooper Jr., 80, of College Station are set for 4 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in College Station.

The Revs. Tim Owens and Dwight Edwards and Dr. Rodney McGlothlin will officiate. Burial will be in the College Station Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Funeral Chapel College Station.

Dr. Cooper died Saturday in Bryan.
