Jan. 28, 1893 — Jan. 30, 2003

HEARNE — Graveside services for Addie Jones, 110, of Hearne are set for 3 p.m. Sunday at the Riverside Cemetery in Hearne.

Arrangements are under the direction of Robertson Funeral Home in Hearne.

Mrs. Jones died Thursday.

Rosa Weidner
Jan. 7, 1909 — Jan. 31, 2003

CAMERON — Services for Rosa Weidner, 94, of Cameron are set for 10 a.m. Monday in the Kathryn W. Green Chapel of the Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Cameron.

The Rev. Jim Lafferty will officiate. Burial will be in the Snead Chapel Cemetery near the Jones Prairie community.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Weidner died Friday in a Temple hospital.

She was born in the Jones Prairie community and was a homemaker and former teacher. She was a Methodist, a member of the Cameron VFW and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in New Braunfels, where she was past president.

Mrs. Weidner received her teaching certificate from Southwest Texas State Teachers College in 1929 and taught in the Ben Arnold, String Prairie and Jones Prairie schools. She was also a member and leader of Brownie and Girl Scout troops in New Braunfels and Cameron for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Weidner.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, John O. and Dianne Weidner of Houston and Clarence W. Weidner of Cameron; four daughters and a son-in-law, Alma Lue Wenzel of Trinity, Melba Sue and Johnnie Lanicek of Clarkston, Clare-Rose Black of Jones Prairie and Lee Janet Riding of Cameron; three brothers, R.M. White of Cameron, Ed S. White of Calvert and B.D. “Whistle” White of Jones Prairie; two sisters, Alma Jewel White of Rosebud and Ruby Lee Lynch of Jones Prairie; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Catherine Shirleyann Beikirch
Catherine Shirleyann Beikirch, a 25-year resident of Iola and former employee of the Iola Independent School District, passed away at her home Wednesday, January 22, 2003. She was 77 years old. No funeral services were held but you may send condolences to her surviving husband, James Beikirch, at 22066 FM 244, Iola, Texas, 77861. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation in her name to the Hospice of Brazos Valley at 502 West 26th Street, Bryan, Texas, 77803.

Ms. Beikirch had battled cancer for approximately three years and toward the end remembered her family and many friends fondly. "Miss Cathy" especially recalled the many children whose lives she touched while working at the school in Iola. Her family would like to express deep appreciation to all of the friends who made her last days as happy and comfortable as possible, including the loving caretakers at the Hospice of Brazos Valley.

Ms. Beikirch was born February 10, 1925 in Rochester, New York to Michael and Edith (Schuster) McCarthy. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Margaret Larkin of Rochester. She is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, James Beikirch of Iola; daughter Linda (James) Pointer of Iola; son James (Kathy) Beikirch of Portland, Oregon; and twin sons Steven Beikirch of Iola and David (Michele) Beikirch of Brockport, New York. Six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren survive including Jason (Cindy) Pointer of Jacksonville, Texas; Jaymi Beikirch of Redondo Beach, California; James Beikirch of Beaverton, Oregon; Jennifer (Jack) Crouch of Langen, Germany; and Kevin and Kristen Beikirch of Brockport, New York. The great-grandchildren are William Fisher and Jordan Pointer of Langen, Germany and Alexandra Morales of Redondo Beach, California. Additionally, Ms. Beikirch was survived by two nieces, Carol Seaman of Rochester, New York and Barbara Kindler of Newport News, Virginia.

Trudie Burkhalter McCulloch Johnson
Jun. 26, 1920 - Jan. 30, 2003

Born in Franklin, Texas, June 26, 1920, Trudie spent her early years in Bryan, Texas. She married Vernon Lamar McCulloch and in 1948 moved with their son Lamar to Houston, Texas where they established McCulloch Heating and Air Conditioning. While living in Houston she served faithfully as a member of West 34th Church of Christ where she taught Bible School. She enjoyed her life as a homemaker and spent many happy days caring for her ,grandchildren, nieces and nephews. They enjoyed wearing the beautiful clothes she sewed for them. Following the death of her husband in 1962, she worked as a distribution supervisor. In the early 1980’s she returned to Brazos County and lived in Wellborn with her husband Sewell Johnson. She was an active member of Central Church of Christ in Bryan. She enjoyed cooking and special times with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Vernon Lamar McCulloch, her son Vernon Lamar McCulloch, Jr., her parents, and seven brothers and sisters. Trudie who was lovingly known to her family as “Mema, Auntie, Aunt Trudie and Grandma Auntie” will be greatly missed by her husband Sewell Johnson, brother O.B. Burkhalter and wife Margaret, Brother-in-law: Charles L. McCulloch and wife Mary, Daughter-in-law: Karen McCulloch-Morey, Grandchildren Karen Lynn Sonley and husband Harold, Sherry Lewis and husband Mike, Morris Lee “Bubba” McCulloch and wife Linda, Hamilton Lamar “Jack” McCulloch and wife Leah, Great-Grandchildren: Kevin and Kristy Hightower, Russell and Jeff Schoonover, Morgan, Caitlin, Ashley, and Shelby McCulloch, Great-Great Grandchildren: Brittany, Megan, Victoria, Kolton, Kailey, Rose, Noah “Lamar”, and Trent; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her stepchildren Don Johnson and Carolyn Robbins.

Funeral Services will be Saturday February 1, at 10 A.M. at Central Church of Christ. Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. till service time Saturday at the church both under the direction of Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan. The Rev. Bob Wolfert will officiate. Burial will be at Bryan City Cemetery. Pallbearers are Mark Anthony, Clay McCulloch, John Buchanan, Rob Towell, Larry Bowen, and Brent Bomnskie. Honorary Pallbearers are Charles L. McCulloch, Steven Burkhalter, David Ricca, and Jay Burroughs. The Family is especially grateful for the compassionate care of Hospice of Brazos Valley. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Brazos Valley or Central Church of Christ, Bryan, Texas.

John G. Otts, Jr. of College Station, Texas and New Orleans, LA died at St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan on January 29, 2003.

John, the son of Colonel John G. Otts, Sr., Texas A&M University Class of 1934, and Janet Charles Otts, was born in Georgia and lived in College Station from 1948 to 1952 while his father served as Professor of Military Sciences at Texas A&M. After living in Colorado, Albuquerque, New Mexico and Torrance, California, John returned to College Station as a student at Texas A&M, receiving a B.A. in modern languages with a minor in microbiology. He had been a resident of College Station for the last 35 years.

John’s lifetime interest in art and antiques led to his ownership of The Gazebo Antiques. John traveled the world and collected treasures, which he shared with his friends.

He was a Century Club member of the Association of Former Students. His gentle spirit of service was manifested in his deep, abiding, and long-term commitment to and participation in, many diverse activities in the community. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bryan, where he had served as both an elder and a deacon. He was a founding member of the Children’s Museum of the Brazos Valley and a volunteer at Hospice and the Church Pantry. He established a scholarship in memory of his parents at OPAS, and was a benefactor for public education through KAMU. John was an advocate for women’s rights and healthcare with Planned Parenthood, a supporter of organ donation, and ultimately a participant in an anatomic gift program for the benefit of medical education.

John was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include Nita Graves of Cuero, Texas; Caroline and Arthur Nead and their daughter Caroline of New Orleans; Caroline Lavender of Birmingham, Alabama; Kay and Richard Meyer of Huntington Beach, California, and their children Ann and Bill; and many friends

A memorial service will be held Sunday, February 2 at 3:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church under the direction of Dr. Philip McLarty. Contributions to the memory of John G. Otts, Jr. may be made to the First Presbyterian Bryan Foundation, Hospice Brazos Valley, Planned Parenthood, or the Willed Body Gift Program of the Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology at the Texas A&M University System Health Science Center College of Medicine.

Lila Matejowsky
July 26, 1925 — Jan. 30. 2003

BRENHAM — Memorial services for Lila Matejowsky, 77, of Brenham are set for 2 p.m. Sunday at the Brenham Memorial Chapel.

The Rev. Stephen Ponder will officiate.

Visitation will be held prior to the services at the funeral home.

Mrs. Matejowsky died Thursday in Trinity Medical Center.

She was born in Gilmer and attended Kilgore Junior College, where she was one of the original Kilgore Rangerettes, and received her R.N. degree from the Dallas Nursing School. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Brenham and was involved with the nursery department at the First Baptist Church in Caldwell for many years.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Bradley Mann of Leakey; a son and daughter-in-law, Charlie and Carolyn Matejowsky of Brenham; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Brenham Building Fund or the Big Springs Ranch for Children, HCR01, Box 152-A, Leakey, Texas 78873.

Robert Vaughn Rinard Jr.
May 29, 1915 — Jan. 30, 2003

VAN WERT, Ohio — Services for Robert Vaughn Rinard Jr., 87, of Van Wert are set for 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert.

Burial will be in the Woodland Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Honors Unit of the Van Wert American Legion Post 178 and VFW Post 5803.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Brickner Funeral Home in Van Wert.

A parish vigil service will be at 8:45 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mr. Rinard died Thursday in Vancrest Health Care Center in Van Wert.

He was born in Findlay, Ohio, and retired in 1975 as vice president of Central Mutual Insurance Company after 28 years of service. In 1977 he was appointed director of the Van Wert County Welfare Department and retired from that position in 1990.

He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received numerous medals and decorations. He was a member of the Van Wert American Legion Post 178, the VFW Post 5803, the Disabled American Veterans, Elks Lodge 1197, Knights of Columbus Council 6034. He served as chairman of the Van Wert Selective Service Board from 1948 to 1971, was a charter member and past president of the Van Wert Jaycees, was state trustee of the Ohio Jaycees, was the 1958 Jaycee Boss of the Year, was past president of the Van Wert Chamber of Commerce and served on numerous other civic committees and boards.

Survivors include his wife, Marcile Brickner Rinard of Van Wert; a son and daughter-in-law, Alan V. and Beth Rinard of Columbus, Ohio; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Elaine and John Varalla of Huntington Beach, Calif., Kathy and Al Cook of Dublin, Ohio, Linda and Doug Snyder of College Station and Debra Rinard of Phoenix; two sisters, Katherine Rinard Porter and Betty Hoverman, both of Delphos, Ohio; and nine grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or the Van Wert Fire Department EMS.

James Clyde Morris
October 27, 1943 - January 30, 2003

James Clyde Morris, known to his friends a Jim, of Lexington, Texas, passed away at his residence January 30, 2003.

Jim served in the United States Army, and then the United States Air Force for a combined total of 17 years. Following his service to his country, he became a paramedic and later a firefighter serving the communities of Williamson County, Waller County, Washington County and finally the City of College Station. Beyond his official retirement he served at the Emergency Services Training Institute at Texas A&M University primarily in the Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting and Recruit Training Divisions.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents Clyde Morris and Dorothy Mae Cavender Morris.

He is survived by his wife Dawn Morris, of Lexington, sons, Nick Morris and his wife Lisa of Taylor, Michael Morris of Lexington, and daughter Mandy Morris of Lexington; grandchildren Christopher and Allison, of Taylor, Michael Jr., of Lexington and Alma and Stephanie of San Marcos.

A celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on February 15, 2003 at the College Station Conference Center.

Dale Lee Brewer
June 25, 1955 — Jan. 30, 2003

NAVASOTA — Services for Dale Lee Brewer, 47, of Houston are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Nobles Funeral Chapel in Navasota.

The Rev. Fred Seay of the First Presbyterian Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Stoneham Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Brewer died Thursday in Houston.

He was born in Diboll and was a handyman.

Survivors include his mother, Mildred Marie Brewer of Houston; a brother, Joe Brewer of Louisiana; five sisters and four brothers-in-law, Debbie Brewer, Katherine and Lewis Bell, Lou and Eddie Englie and Mable and Juan Casillas, all of Houston, and Margie and Darwin Jordon of Cleveland.

Virginia Fuqua

NAVASOTA — Graveside services for Virginia Fuqua, 62, of Lubbock are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Concord Cemetery in Iola.

The Rev. Dwain Steinkuehler of the Anderson Baptist Church will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Lindley-Robertson-Holt Funeral Home in Navasota.

Mrs. Fuqua died Friday in Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.

She was born in Alto and lived in Lubbock nine years.

Survivors include her husband, Neil Fuqua of Lubbock; four sons, Ronald Heileman, Russell Heileman, Raymond Heileman and Mike Heileman; a daughter, Betty Peel; a brother, Marvin Robinson; two sisters, JoAnn Rawlinson and Sherlie Carlisle; and her mother-in-law, Esta Fuqua of Navasota.

Alice Ida Quebe Hardan
Nov. 26, 1918 — Feb. 2, 2003

BRENHAM — Services for Alice Ida Quebe Hardan, 84, of Brenham are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham.

The Revs. Lawrence Bade and Kim Little-Brooks will officiate. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham.

Mrs. Hardan died Sunday in Brenham.

She was born in Prairie Hill and was educated at the Prairie Hill School. She was a sales lady at the Ben Franklin Store and New York Store and also worked at the high school cafeteria. She was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Ladies Aid and the American Legion Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben A. Hardan.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Lubeth and Lee Koehler Jr. of Brenham; a sister and brother-in-law, LaVerne and Raymond Glaesmann of Brenham; a brother and sister-in-law, Wilfred and Selma Quebe of Katy; a brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Ralph and Frances Hardan of Topeka, Kan., and Irene Tegeler of Kenney.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Evangelical Church Radio and TV Ministry or Kruse Memorial Village.
