Michel Kowis Jr.

Michel Kowis Jr. passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2005, in Baytown, Texas. He was born March 10, 1921, to Michel & Eva Kowis in Alberta, Canada. He was a retired rigger with Exxon and served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He was also a member of The Knights of Columbus, and The American Legion Post 658.

He is preceded in death by his parents, 10 brothers, and 2 sisters. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sally Christine Kowis of Crosby, daughters & sons-in-law, Catherine & Richard Kubin of Crosby, Barbara & Jerome Kubin of Austin, Leona & Roger Allen of Crosby, sister, Betty Selensky of Baytown, grandchildren, Angela & Dan Wolberg, Michael Kubin, Melissa & Pat Greene, Stephan & Audrey Kubin, Kelly Kubin, Chad Kubin, Jennifer Allen, and Lindsay Allen, great grandchildren, Jakob Wolberg, Catherine Wolberg, Donovan Kubin, and Anthony Greene.

A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Saturday, 10:00 am, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Crosby with Fr. Terrance Brinkman as celebrant. Burial will follow at Forrest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston. Visitation will be Friday evening at Navarre Funeral Home from 5 to 8 pm with a Rosary at 7:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. James House, 5800 W. Baker, Baytown, Tx. 77521.

Donna Sue Bryant

Donna Sue Bryant, 47, of Highlands passed away February 16, 2005 in Sulphur, L.A. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday at 10:30 A.M. at Sterling White Funeral Home Chapel in Highlands with Reverends Carroll Lansford and Karl Tewold officiating. Interment will follow at White Cemetery in Highlands. Visitation will be Sunday, Feb. 20 from 5 to 9 P.M. at Sterling White Chapel.

Donna was born June 19, 1957 in Houston to James Curtis and Shirley Pennington. She enjoyed reading, cooking, geneology and pictures of her family. Donna was a field office manager for a commercial construction company.

Survivors include her husband of 21 years, Gordon Bryant of Highlands, son Private First Class Jerrad Alan Bryant of Mannheim, Germany, Step-sons Jason B. Davis and wife Kelly of Ashland, KY and Jewel Robinson and wife Tosha of Baytown, sister Becky Touchstone of Baytown, brother Jimmy Pennington of Highlands, grandchildren J.B. Davis, Tanner Davis and Jacob Cox, all of Ashland, KY and Ethan Thomas Robinson of Baytown as well as numerous other nieces, nephews, other relatives and close friends.

Services are under the direction of Sterling White Chapel Funeral Home, 11011 Crosby-Lynchburg Rd. Highlands, TX. 281-426-3555.

Cecelia Moorman

Cecelia Moorman, 72, of Waco, formerly of Pasadena, TX, passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2005 at Kindred Hospital in Pasadena after a short illness. Mrs. Moorman was born August 26, 1932 in Chicago, IL to Patrick and Lucille Barbeau. She married the love of her life, Rogelio Basso Moorman on March 30, 1954 in Chicago. To this union, seven children were born: Tommy, Gene, Harold, Lance, Maria, Eric, and Yvonne. Roy preceded her in death on December 21, 2004.

Also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters, she is survived by her children and two daughters-in law, Sonya and Edwina; sisters Corrine and Betty, brothers Buddy, Kenny and Richie; 38 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends beginning at 1 p.m. today at L.A. Crespo Funeral Directors, 6123 Garth Rd., Baytown, with a memorial service following at 6 p.m. “Sis”, as she was fondly known, will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. As she desired, she will be cremated. Roy and Sis will be laid to rest together on March 9, 2005 at Arlington National Cemetery.

William Clark Hackett

William Clark Hackett, 77, peacefully passed away Tuesday morning, February 15, 2005 in Houston, Texas. He was born in Marlin, Texas as the twin brother of James Mark. He was one of eleven children born to Robert Jackson & Rosa Mae Wier Hackett. He was called to the service of his country in the United States Army while attending Elkhart High School. As a WWII veteran, he was awarded his diploma in 2002. He proudly served as a carpenter and homebuilder for over thirty years. He taught building trades at Channelview High School and retired then from Brown & Root in 2001.

“PaPaw” Hackett, as he was lovingly called, is survived by his adoring wife of fifty-four years, Mary Frances “Frankie” and six children, Dorothy, Lana, Becky, Janet, William Clark “Bubba” and Marilyn. He also reveled in the love of 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. He is also survived by four brothers, James M. Hackett, Sr., Howard S. Hackett, Rollon M. Hackett and Cecil J. Hackett; and a host of extended family member and numerous close friends.

Visitation will be at San Jacinto Memorial Funeral Home on Thursday, February 17, 2005 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The Funeral Services will held on Friday, February 18, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at Old River Terrace United Methodist Church, 16102 East Freeway, Channelview. Rev. Steve Woody will officiate. Mr. Hackett will then be laid to rest at San Jacinto Memorial Cemetery with military honors. Services are under the direction of San Jacinto Memorial Funeral Home, 14659 I-10 East Freeway,

Juanita Kissick

Juanita Kissick, 87, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2005. She was a member of Highlands Methodist Church and the Crosby Chapter of Eastern Star. She proudly spent her life taking care of her family and those around her.

Juanita is preceded in death by her loving husband Jim.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Mead and her husband Fred; grandchildren, Shari and Chris Bartlett, Kristi and Doug Stone, Tracy and Fred Mead Jr. Her beloved great grandchildren, Fred Mead III, Megan, Sydney, and Katie Stone, and Travis Bartlett were her greatest joy.

Her family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Navarre Funeral Home, 2444 Rollingbrook, Baytown (281-422-8111). Funeral services are scheduled for Friday at 10:00 a.m. at Navarre Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Karl Tewold.

Joseph D. Rideau, Sr.

A longtime resident of Barrett Station, Texas joined our Lord and Savior, February 11, 2005, after a pleasant ride on his beloved horse “Zack Boy”. His strong faith, domineering personality and musical talent will be greatly missed.

Joseph leaves behind his treasure chest of jewels: The love of his life of forty-eight years, Jeannie (Singleton) Rideau, children: Joseph Rideau, Jr. (Kimberely) of Houston, Texas, Horace Rideau (Angela) of Highlands, Texas, Elaine Rideau Chambers (Rod), Rachel Rideau Guy, (Michael) both of Barrett Station, Texas. Grandchildren: Derrick Rideau (Keyona), Daysha, Dawn, Dionne, Keyuna, Dori, Angle, Nia, Joy, Byron, Faith, Josiah, Titus Rideau, Jermanie Freeman, Rod, Jr. Elijah and Devin Chambers, Melanie, Mykah and Megan Guy, Great-grandchildren: Derrick and Kevin Rideau. Sister, JoAnn Rideau Harvey (Floyd) of Beaumont, Texas. Sisters-in-law, Brothers-in-law, a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Two special play grandsons: Tramonte and Xavier Green and aunts and uncles.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Martha Rideau, brother, James E. Rideau, Jr. Visitation will be Saturday from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. on February 19, 2005. Geraldine Reese

Ms. Geraldine (Phillips) Reese, passed away on Saturday, February 12, 2005. She was born August 16, 1940. She was one of thirteen children born to the late Richmond, and the late Viney (Gorrell) Phillips of Barrett Station, Texas. She attended the Crosby I.S.D. She was baptized and became a member of True Vine B.C. under the leadership of the late Rev. W.L. Humphrey. She later married Mr. Bobby L. Hyson, Sr.. To that union three children were born. She then attended and graduated with honors from Houston Community College. She was an independent caterer and loved to cook. She was also employed by the United States Postal Services. She later married Mr. Fred Reese, deceased, and united with the Starlight B.C. where she served faithfully under Rev. A. Guillory, Pastor, until her death. She was preceded in death by sister, Shirley Mitchell and brother, Vernon Phillips.

She leaves to cherish her memories: two daughters, Anita Thornton and Barbara Pierce, one son, Bobby Hyson Jr., four grandchildren, Sonja, Cephas Jr., Ashlyn and Yul Pierce Jr. of San Diego, CA., two great-grandchildren. Dadreion and Talmadge (T.J.), two step-daughters, Crichelle and Michelle, two sisters, Ivory Bundage of Barrett Station and Etta Barrett of Baytown, Texas. Eight brothers, Willie, Wilbert, James (wife Alberta) Phillips Sr. of Barrett Station, Lester (wife Sharon) Phillips of Baytown, Robert (wife Mary) Phillips of Houston, Eddie (wife Mary) Phillips Sr. of Shepherd, TX., Richmond Phillips Jr., of La Porte, TX., and George Phillips of Santa Maria, CA., one sister-in-law, Ms. Way Phillips and one brother-in-law, Mr. Louis Mitchell, two sons-in-law, Cephas Thornton Sr., and Yul Pierce Sr. the niece and nephew she took in her care, Julia and James Phillips Jr., one aunt, Ms. Lula Gorrell of Las Angeles, CA., two God-children, earl Bundage and Andre Guillory, a devoted cousin, Nellie Gloston, mother-in-law, Ms. Novella Flanagan and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be Saturday, February 19, 2005 at Pleasantgreen Baptist Church, 10912 Wallisville Rd., Houston, Texas with Rev. A Guillery officiating at 11:00 a.m.

Visitation will be Friday night, February 18, 2005 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at 8226 Grandview St., Houston, Texas, Starlight Baptist Church, Rev. A. Guillery, Pastor.

Honorary pallbearers are her eight brothers. Active pallbearers are Cephas Thornton, Sr., Phillip Alexander, Marcus James, Yul Pierce Sr., and Gary Bundage and Kenny Phillips.

Paradise North Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Interment will be at Paradise North Cemetery Beautiful Houston, Texas.

M.G. “Glenn” Terry

M.G. “Glenn” Terry was born October 22, 1923 in Rockdale, Texas, to Estelle and A.G. Terry. He died at home on Tuesday, February 15, 2005 after a long battle with emphysema.

Glenn was raised in Bryan, his family having moved there when he was six months old. He attended Bryan schools and graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School. He served three years in the Air Force during World War II, spending 14 months on Guam.

Upon his discharge, he returned to Bryan and married Helen Rahnert in 1946. He enrolled at Texas A&M, graduating in 1950 with a BS in accounting. He was a proud Aggie, a member of the Former Students Association and Houston A&M Club.

Most of Glenn’s career was spent in the automobile business. He spent 19 years with GMAC, later working in dealerships in Baytown. He retired from Baytown Motors in 1990.

Glenn was very active in the community, serving as President of the Baytown Kiwanis Club for several years. Glenn was a member of the First Christian Church in Baytown.

Following the death of their respective spouses, Glenn married his high school sweetheart, Gloria Busey and joined her at Huckster Packaging & Supply where he served as Controller until just a few months before his death.

Glenn is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Helen Rahnert Terry, his brother C.E. (Jack) Terry and stepson Ward Busey. He is survived by his second wife, Gloria, two sons Glenn A. Terry and wife Tracey of Baytown, Mark A. Terry and his wife Sherry of Houston, grandsons Joe Terry and Mickal Terry of Mont Belvieu, Jack Terry and Zachary Terry of Houston, three stepchildren John Busey and wife Sylvia, Brad Busey and wife Joy, Robin Busey Olivares and husband Joey, eleven step-grandchildren, two step-great grandchildren, two sisters-in-law Pauline Barnes of Bryan and Annie B. Cermin of San Antonio. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be at Forest Park East Funeral Home on Friday, February 18, 2005 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Burial will be at Forest Park East Cemetery on Saturday, February 19, 2005 at 12:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to your favorite charity.

Joselyn Hyman, 78, of Houston passed away February 14, 2005. She is survived by daughters, Sharon Brewer of Arkansas, Linda Stevens of Channelview; son, Ira Hyman of Houston; brother, Bruce Hutchins of Houston; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Thursday, February 17, 2005, 4 to 8 p.m. at Howard-Glendale Funeral Home, 1015 Federal Rd., Houston, TX.
