Laverne McGinty Gilkey
April 30, 1916 — February 15, 2003

Mrs. Laverne Gilkey, 86, of Tampa, Fla. passed away Feb. 15 at University Village in Tampa. She was born in Navasota, Texas to Maurice & Estelle Mason McGinty and lived in Bryan from 1935 until 2001. Mrs. Gilkey retired from Brazos County Abstract as office manager. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bryan.

Mrs. Gilkey was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Jack Gilkey. Survivors include one son & a daughter-in-law: Tom Gilkey & Pat Eaton of Temple Terrace, Fla; one granddaughter: Shannon Gilkey of Troy, N.Y.; three sisters and a brother-in-law: Allene Billeaud of Bay City, Texas, Dalgus Clark of Houston, Texas and Joyce & Otto Wisofsky of El Campo, Texas; an aunt: Mildred Williams of College Station; cousins Karen Youngblood & Lenelle Connealy of College Station; nieces Ann Burns of Bryan and Paulette Martinez of College Station.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday at Hillier Funeral Home with Rev. J.W. Kornegay officiating. Burial will be in Bryan City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

James Patrick Ferguson
1920 — 2003

James Patrick Ferguson, age 82, born November 25, 1920 in Palestine, Texas, died Thursday, February 13, 2003. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, was a graduate of the Texas A&M class of 1943 and University of Texas Law School, class of 1950. Mr. Ferguson was an attorney with Exxon Corporation for 33 years (Landowner Relations), member of Exxon Annuitants Club and longtime member and usher with First Presbyterian Church of Houston. He was preceded in death by wife, Mary Elizabeth Ferguson; and brothers Jack C. Ferguson and J.H. Reagan Ferguson Jr. Mr. Ferguson is survived by son James P. Ferguson, Jr.; daughter Ment Ferguson Turbiville; grandsons Charles Fletcher Turbiville II and Patrick Ferguson Turbiville; sister-in-laws, Mrs. Reagan (Evelyn) Ferguson, Jr. and Mrs. Bascom W. (Kelly) Bentley; five nieces and nephews, and their families. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, February 17, 2003 at the First Presbyterian Church of Houston, 5300 Main Street with Dr. John Wm. Lancaster officiating. Interment will be held at East Hill Cemetery in Palestine, Texas at a time to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Services, 4407 Bee Cave Road, Suite 520, Austin, Texas 78746-6496 (512-476-1234) or a charity of choice.

Mary Ann Todd

Mary Ann passed away February 14, 2003. Mrs. Todd was a loving mother, grandmother, & special Grandma to the families in her neighborhood. Mary Ann was predeceased by her husband, Lionell Todd; brother, Joe Rosinski, and grandson Tom Todd Jr. She is survived by her sons, Tommy & wife Laura Todd and Joe & wife Heidi Todd; grandchildren, Tracy, Tayt, & Tyler Todd, Chris & wife Debbie O’Rear and Cassy O’Rear, and Cody & Casey Curnel; great-grandchildren, Amanda, Hali, Summer, Alexis, Kaitlyn, & Ryan; brother, Jack & wife Waldine Rosinski; niece & nephews, Maurine, William, Jack Jr., & Marshall and their families. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at Colonial Hills Baptist Church in Cedar Hill. Burial will be 4 p.m. in College Station. Visitation with the family is from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Jimmie Flowers Sr.
Aug. 31, 1934 — Feb. 11, 2003

BRENHAM — Services for Jimmie Flowers Sr., 68, of Clay are set for 1 p.m. Monday at Liberty Baptist Church in Independence.

J.B. Hudson will officiate. Burial will be in the Clay Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Taft Harris Funeral Home in Brenham.

Mr. Flowers died Tuesday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

He was born in Independence and was retired.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Flowers; a daughter, Agnes Hill; and six sisters.

Marvin C. Jeske
Nov. 4, 1943 — Feb. 14, 2003

Services for Marvin C. Jeske, 59, of Smetana are set for 2 p.m. Monday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.

Ludy Manthei will officiate. Burial will be in the Smetana Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 8 a.m. to the time of services Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Jeske died Friday at his home.

He was born in Bryan and was a lifelong resident of Smetana. He retired from the Bryan Fire Department after 33 years of service. He was a member of the Sons of Hermann Lodge in Bryan and the Smetana Community Services. He was a Protestant.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys Jeske of Smetana; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Dale and Kelle Jeske and David Jeske, all of Smetana; his mother, Julia Jeske of College Station; five brothers and three sisters-in-law, Eugene and Frances Jeske, Ernest and Lois Jeske, Morris Jeske and Norman Jeske, all of Bryan, and Milton and Angie Jeske of Pinehurst; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Eloise and Hardy Erwin of Stigler, Okla., Frances and Frank Hromcik of Las Vegas, Nev., and Julienne McLain of Deweyville; and two granddaughters.

John William ‘J.W.’ Johnson
March 4, 1924 — Feb. 14, 2003

FRANKLIN — Services for John William “J.W.” Johnson, 78, of Caldwell are set for 2 p.m. Monday at the McCauley Funeral Home Chapel in Franklin.

The Rev. Dan Bates of Heards Baptist Church in the Petteway community will officiate. Burial will be in West Boone Prairie Cemetery near Franklin.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Johnson died Friday at his home.

He was born in the West Boone Prairie community and lived in Caldwell 20 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in France, Germany and Czechoslovakia. He was retired after 37 years as a delivery driver for Kraft Foods. He formerly lived in Houston and was a member of the Woodland Acres Baptist Church in Houston.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Earlene Johnson.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Doris and Tommy Lee of Caldwell; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Johnny and Rhonda Johnson of Deer Park, Carlton Johnson and Calvin and Karen Johnson, all of Caldwell; a sister, Bennie Mae McCoslin of Buffalo; a former daughter-in-law, Dolores Johnson of Spring; eight grandchildren; four great-granddaughters; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ben F. Keesee
June 26, 1917 — Feb. 14, 2003

SOMERVILLE — Services for Ben F. Keesee, 85, of Somerville are set for 10 a.m. Monday at the Strickland Funeral Home Chapel in Somerville.

The Revs. Reagen Reeves and Jimmy VanDorn will officiate. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 4 to 6 p.m., and from 8 a.m. to the time of services Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Keesee died Friday in the Scott & White Hospital in Temple.

He was born in Abilene and served in the U.S. Army in the 346th Infantry. He worked as a steel worker using heavy equipment. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Somerville and was a former member of the AFL-CIO.

Survivors include his wife, Laura Keesee of Somerville; a daughter, Joyce Keesee of Center; three sons and a daughter-in-law, William David Keesee of College Station, Benny and Kay Keesee of Anahuac and James Keesee of Dayton; three sisters, Eva Williams of Tomball, Frankie Morgan of San Francisco and Lawanda Renfro of Mesquite; a brother, Dalton Keesee of Gorman; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Clarence W. Lohmeyer
Oct. 29, 1927 — Feb. 14, 2003

BRENHAM — Services for Clarence W. Lohmeyer, 75, of Washington are set for 10:30 a.m. Monday at Friedens United Church in Washington.

The Rev. Ron Trimmer will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham.

A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mr. Lohmeyer died Friday in Methodist Diagnostic Hospital in Houston.

He was born in Washington and was a farmer and rancher. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of the VFW Post No. 4006. He was a member of the Sons of Hermann Lodge No. 178, was director of the A.S.C.S. Board for many years and served on the board of the Farmers Mutual Insurance Group. He was also a member of the Friedens United Church of Washington, where he served on the church council several times.

Survivors include his wife, Rose Lee Loesch Lohmeyer; a son and daughter-in-law, Gordon and Cindy Lohmeyer of Pasadena; a brother and sister-in-law, Lugene and Willie Dell Lohmeyer of Navasota; eight sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law, Elsie Tegeler, Alma Kenjura, Edna Schroeder, Lydia Loesch, Hilda and Ray Lorenz and Robert and Selma Wellmann, all of Brenham, Bonnie Loesch of Cleveland and Ella and Truman Flynt of Iola.

Memorials may be made to Friedens United Church of Washington.

Burney W. Meyer Sr.
Feb. 28, 1918 — Feb. 15, 2003

Services for Burney W. Meyer Sr., 84, of Bryan are set for 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in College Station.

The Rev. Michael Sis will officiate. Entombment will be in Msgr. Gleissner Mausoleum in Bryan.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.

A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mr. Meyer died Saturday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

He was born in New Wehdem and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired from Oak Farms in 1982 and was a member and head usher at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Meyer of Bryan; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Burney Meyer Jr. of Cooks Point and Kenneth J. and Virginia Meyer of Bryan; three sisters, Evelyn Anderson of Bryan, Laverne Gasaway of Richmond and Jocelyn Walzel of Baytown; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

James Leslie ‘Billy’ Parker
Dec. 29, 1929 — Feb. 13, 2003

JEWETT — Services for James Leslie “Billy” Parker, 73, of Fort Worth and formerly of Jewett are set for 2 p.m. Monday at the Ricks-Bowers Funeral Home Chapel in Jewett.

The Rev. James Engle of the First Baptist Church of Jewett will officiate. Burial will be in Sardis Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 8 a.m. to the time of the services Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Parker died Thursday in Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth.

He was born in Jewett and was a Baptist. He was employed as an engineer at General Dynamics and later Locke-Martin in Fort Worth until his retirement.

Survivors include his guardian, Nick Nelson of Fort Worth; his wife, Virgie Marshall of Fort Worth; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Emil C. Ganske Jr.
March 12, 1905 — Feb. 15, 2003

BRENHAM — Services for Emil C. Ganske Jr., 97, of Brenham are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John United Church of Christ in Burton.

The Rev. Glen Schoeneberg will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Memorial Oaks Funeral Chapel in Brenham.

Mr. Ganske died Saturday at Bluebonnet Hills Nursing Home in Brenham.

He was born in Artesian Park in Washington County and was a farmer for many years. He attended the Hohenwalde School and was a longtime member of St. John United Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Fuchs Ganske.

Survivors include a stepdaughter and son-in-law, Verdene and Thomas Brinkmeyer of Brenham; a stepson, Leroy Koch of Brenham; four stepgrandchildren; nine stepgreat-grandchildren; 10 nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Brenham or St. John United Church of Christ in Burton.
