Thomas ‘T.O.’ Howard
1913 — 2003

ARP — Funeral services for Thomas Odel “T.O.” Howard, 89, of Arp will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 24, at Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home chapel, Overton, with Reverend Doctor Ron Klingsick and Reverend Wayne Spanhanks officiating. Burial will be in Mason Cemetery, near Arp.

Mr. Howard died Saturday, February 22 at his residence in Arp. He was born August 15, 1913 in Troup to the late William H. and Nancy Lanham Howard. He attended school in Troup and married Blanche Usry November 30, 1935 in Troup. He moved from Troup and resided in Arp 53 years and worked thirty five years as a driller for Maxwell Herrin Drilling Company and retired nineteen years ago. He never met a man he did not like and he loved his family and gardening and delighted in giving his harvest to his friends. He was very proud of the fact that he worked so many years and his wife Blanche was his “Sweetheart”.

He was a member of the Woodman of the World and attended the Arp Emmanuel Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by one son in 1974, Charles Odel Howard; five brothers, J.W. Howard, Jeff Howard, Neal Howard, Edward Howard and Jack Howard; two sisters, Carrie Davis and Mary Calicutt.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Blanche Howard of Arp; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Jerry Lunsford of Longview and Nancy and Richard Stewart of Frankston; one daughter-in-law, Barbara Howard Hubbard of Whitehouse; one brother, R.J. Howard of Troup; nine grandchildren, David Howard, Sharon Templeton, Angela Tucker, Craig Lunsford, Christi Comer, Lori McNeese, Pennye McFerrin, Summer Stewart and Rick Stewart; eleven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, David Howard, Craig Lunsford, Joey Comer, Jeremy Comer, Rick Stewart, Steve Tucker, James McNeese and Garry Templeton.

Honorary pallbearer will be Owen Hamrick.

Elna Evelyn Shiller
Dec. 11, 1917 — Feb. 22, 2003

CALDWELL — Services for Elna Evelyn Shiller, 85, of Caldwell are set for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell.

The Revs. Steve Stigler and Henry Beseda will officiate. Burial will be in the Caldwell Masonic Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. to the time of the services Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Shiller died Saturday at Burleson St. Joseph Manor in Caldwell.

She was born in Tivoli, Texas, and lived in Caldwell 12 years. She was a retired teacher and was a member of the Texas Retired Teachers Association. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Caldwell.

Survivors include her husband, Steve Shiller of Caldwell.

Andrew R. "Drew" Davis IV
May 27, 1983 – Feb. 16, 2003

Arlington - Andrew R. "Drew" Davis IV passed away Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, in Arlington.

Mass and Christian Burial: 1 pm Wednesday, Feb. 19, at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church in Arlington. Graveside services were at 11 am on Thursday, Feb 20, at Forest Park West Cemetery in Houston.

Memorials: Edna Gladney Home of Fort Worth; 6300 John Ryan Dr., Ft. Worth, TX 76132.

Andrew R. "Drew" Davis IV was born May 27, 1983, in Ft. Worth and was a 2002 graduate of Martin High School. Drew was a fourth generation Aggie, having been admitted to Texas A&M Galveston in the fall of 2002. He most recently worked as a state inspector for a local service station. Drew's early years were spent in Houston. He was a natural outdoorsman and a good athlete. He achieved his "Arrows of Light" in Boy Scouts before the family moved to Arlington in 1995. Drew attended Wood Elementary, Boles Junior High and Martin High School. He played football for Wood, Boles and Martin as a freshman. Drew had many friends and loved cars and video games. He was smart, witty, and full of life. He was loved deeply by his family and will be unimaginably missed. His mother and father are very proud of him, especially his close relationship with his brother, Kenny.

Survivors: Father Andrew R. "Dusty" Davis III; his mother Cynthia LaMar Davis; brother Kenneth LaMar Davis; grandparents, Ms. Elise Davis of Houston, Mr. & Mrs. Donald LaMar of Bryan and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Henrietta (Penny) Coleman
Nov. 9, 1922 – Feb. 17, 2003

Henrietta (Penny) Coleman, born November 9, 1922, in MacLanahan, Texas to Louis M. and Lola Maw Newman, passed away in her home late Monday evening, February 17, 2003, surrounded by her children.

Educated at Texas State College for Women, Denton, she majored in the art and after graduation worked as a fashion illustrator. Henrietta married James Edward Coleman in San Francisco during WWII and after the war, they settled near their parents in the small farming community of Chilton, Texas. Henrietta continued painting and also managed the bookkeeping for the family cattle business while raising three children.

In the early seventies the Colemans moved to Huntsville, Texas and Henrietta purchased the Huntsville Flower and Gift Shop. After the untimely death of her husband in 1975 she continued working and put their children through college while running the flower shop. She was an energetic businesswoman, gardener, artist and collector of antiques. She loved to paint portraits, still life scenes and landscapes.

Since her retirement in the mid 80s Henrietta became active with United Methodist Women, The Wesleyans Group which she enjoyed a great deal. She also traveled with her daughters, visiting England, Scotland and France. Henrietta is survived by her three children, Priscilla Coleman Fell of London, England, James Edward Coleman of Huntsville, Texas and Becky Coleman of Conroe, Texas. She has two grandsons, Jac Coleman and Joe Coleman. Also, brothers Pete Newman and Charles Newman of Bryan / College Station, Texas plus many nieces, nephews and cousins who will all miss her dearly.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in Henrietta Coleman’s name to the Moorville United Methodist Church c/o Mary Jane Huber, 104 County Rd. 499A, Chilton, Texas 76632

Services are under the direction of Huntsville Funeral Home.

Alton R. Wendler
April 20, 1922 — Feb. 23, 2003

BRENHAM — Services for Alton R. Wendler, 80, of Brenham are set for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham.

The Rev. Lawrence Bade will officiate. Burial will be in the Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham. Memorial Oaks Chapel is handling arrangements.

Mr. Wendler died Sunday in Brenham.

He was born in Washington County and was a retired farmer.

Mr. Wendler was preceded in death by his first wife, Erna Mae Ludwig Wendler.

Survivors include his wife, Minnie Werland Wendler of Brenham; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Robert E. Brown of Chappell Hill; a sister, Loraine Haarmeyer of Brenham; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Ruby Wendler of Highlands, Ora Nell Klehm of Brenham and Dodie Munson of Burton.

Memorials may be made to the St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham, the American Diabetes Association or the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Betty Fay Wren
Dec. 11, 1943 — Feb. 23, 2003

Memorial services for Betty Fay Wren, 59, of Bryan are set for 7 p.m. Tuesday in Katy.

Local arrangements are under the direction of Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan.

Mrs. Wren died Sunday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

She was born in Highlands and graduated from Sam Houston High School. She lived in Bryan since 1986, after having moved from Houston. She was a supervisor for the Harris County Auditor’s Office. She was a member of Wellborn Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Gene Wren of Bryan; two stepsons, Shawn Wren of Conroe and Darryl Wren of Cleveland; two daughters and sons-in-law, Darlene and Roger Jackson of Bryan, and Michele and Dan Hines of Katy; three brothers, Jasper Jones of Brazoria, Lawrence Jones of Houston and Andy Jones of Hempstead; a sister, Claudia Goodwin of Houston; her mother, Fay Hones of Houston; and five grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the charity of choice.

Teresa Trant Sagona
Nov. 18, 1954 — Feb. 22, 2003

AUSTIN — Services for Teresa Trant Sagona, 48, of Austin are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home in Austin.

Mrs. Sagona died Saturday at Heritage Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Austin.

She was born and raised in Bryan and graduated from Rice University with a bachelor’s degree in history and political science. She received a master’s degree in legal studies from the University of San Francisco, Lone Mountain campus. Mrs. Sagona was also an active member of the PTA.

Survivors include her husband of 22 years, Thomas Sagona of Austin; a son, Timothy Sagona of Austin; a daughter, Jessica Sagona of Austin; her father, Emmett Trant Jr. of Bryan; her twin sister, Paula Trant Beals and her husband, Robert P. Beals II, of Bryan; and a sister and brother-in-law, Laura Trant and Robert F. Gage of Katy.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Memory and Aging Center, UCSF School of Medicine, 350 Parnassas, Suite 706, San Francisco, Calif. 94143.

Florence Lewis
Nov. 12, 1921 — Feb. 23, 2003

MADISONVILLE — Services for Florence Lewis, 81, of Madisonville are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the North Madison Church of Christ.

Lanier Stephens will officiate. Burial will be at the Mount Tabor Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the J.M. Day Funeral Home Chapel in Madisonville.

Mrs. Lewis died Sunday at the Madison St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

She was born in North Zulch.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Lewis.

Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Goldye and Charles Nickens of Oakdale, Calif., and Linda Vogt of Madisonville; a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Patricia Lewis of Madisonville; a sister, Evy Majors of Madisonville; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many relatives and friends.

Paul V. Quintero
March 22, 1937 — Feb. 22, 2003

GALVESTON — Services for Paul V. Quintero, 64, of Galveston are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Galveston.

Burial will be at Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Chapel of Carnes Funeral Home in Galveston, with a vigil and rosary at 7 p.m.

Mr. Quintero died Saturday in Galveston.

He was born in Somerville. Mr. Quintero was raised in Bryan, where he graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School. He graduated from Texas A&M University with a bachelor of science degree in business. He was a member of the Corps of Cadets and the Aggie baseball team.

Upon graduating from A&M, he moved to Galveston and opened Quintero Brothers Furniture Store in 1959. He was a member of the Galveston Chamber of Commerce, the Texas A&M University Association of Former Students, the Galveston County Aggie Club, the Evening Optimist, LULAC, and was one of the founding members of the Mexican American Chamber of Commerce.

He retired as a lieutenant colonel serving in the U.S. Army for more than 30 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Quintero.

Survivors include his daughter, Geri Quintero; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Jiovana Quintero of Galveston; two grandchildren; a sister, Dolores Reyes of Somerville; five brothers, Salvador Quintero and Leno Quintero of Houston, Alfonso Quintero of Richmond, Joe Quintero and Ramiro Quintero Sr. of Bryan; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Memorials may be made to the Paul Quintero Memorial Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 3851, Galveston, Texas 77552-0851.
