Jessie Lee Conley Jr.
June 17, 1949 — Dec. 29, 2002

Services for Jessie Lee Conley Jr., 53, of Bryan are set for 11 a.m., Thursday at Ruby’s Chapel at Jones Washington Mortuary in Bryan.

The Rev. Prentice Garrett will officiate. Burial will be in the New Bethlehem Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Conley died Sunday at his home.  A lifelong resident of Bryan, he attended Bryan schools and was a laborer. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include three brothers, Ralph and Willis Conley, both of Dallas, and David Conley of Bryan; five sisters, Thelma Knox of Dallas, Dorothy Greenwood of Houston, Verma Faye Conley of Dallas, Sandra Conley of Bryan and Samantha Conley of Dallas; and his father, Jessie Lee Conley Sr. of Bryan.

Lula Davenport Caldwell
June 10, 1925 — Dec. 27, 2002

Services for Lula Davenport Caldwell, 77, of Bryan are set for 11 a.m. Friday at New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church in Bryan.

The Rev. T.L. Ross of Castle Heights Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Wixon Creek Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Jones-Washington Mortuary in Bryan.

Mrs. Caldwell died Friday at Sherwood Health Care Center.

She was born in Bryan and lived here for 18 years. She was a member of the Castle Heights Baptist Church and choir and also belonged to the Missionary Society.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey Caldwell.

Survivors include a son, Howard Davenport of Houston; three brothers, Cecil and Willie Davenport, both of Bryan, and Oscar L. Davenport of Dallas; three sisters, Onella Davenport Mooring and Joe Eddie Davenport Bass, both of Bryan, and Jessie Lee Davenport Devrow of College Station; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Castle Heights Baptist Church Building Fund.

Raymond Sikorski
Jan. 17, 1931 — Dec. 30, 2002

Services for Raymond Sikorski, 71, of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Monsignor John McCaffrey will officiate. Burial will be in the Rest-Ever Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan. A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m.

Mr. Sikorski died Monday at his home.

He was born in the Smetana community in Brazos County and was a resident of Bryan for most of his life. He retired as a truck driver from Central Freight Lines and was a member of the VFW Post No. 4692. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine Sikorski.

Survivors include two stepsons, Willie Bennett of Bryan and Don Bennett of Claude; two stepdaughters, Nancy Sanders of Gonzales and Linda Cudmore of Pflugerville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward and Betty Sikorski and Anton Sikorski Jr. and wife Doris, all of Bryan; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Dorothy Berry and Tina and Buck Kindt, all of Bryan; and his mother, Virgie Sikorski of Bryan.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Brazos Valley, 205 E. 29th St., Bryan 77803.

James O. Ellis
Oct. 31, 1931 — Dec. 31, 2002

Private services for James O. Ellis, 71, of Bryan will be scheduled at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan.

Mr. Ellis died Tuesday at Sherwood Health Care Center.

He was born in Houston and lived in Bryan for two years. He was an electronic technician for the U.S. Geological Survey in Menlo Park, Calif., before his retirement. Mr. Ellis served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Pat Ellis of Bryan; and a brother and sister-in-law, Joseph R. and Maria Ellis of Bowie, Md.

Ila Estelle Johnson
Sept. 7, 1912 — Jan. 1, 2003

CENTERVILLE —Funeral services for Ila Estelle Johnson, 90, of Centerville and formerly of Jewett are set for 2 p.m. Friday at Walters Funeral Chapel.

The Rev. Billy Bob Evans of First Baptist Church in Marquez will officiate. Burial will be in Concord Cemetery in Concord.

Visitation will be at the funeral home from 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., and from 9 a.m. to the time of services Friday.

Mrs. Johnson died Wednesday at Madison St. Joseph Hospital in Madisonville.

Born and raised in Concord, she graduated from Jewett High School and lived much of her life in Leon County. She also lived for many years in Houston and was a clerk for the Harris County auditor. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, Elton Baker and Alton Johnson.

Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Copeland of Centerville; a sister, Ruby Clark of Blairstown, Mo.; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Edwin C. ‘Carmen’ Leschber
April 16, 1926 — Dec. 31, 2002

THORNDALE — Funeral services for Edwin C. “Carmen” Leschber, 76, of Thorndale are set for 2 p.m. Friday at St. John Lutheran Church in Thorndale.

The Rev. Walter J. Miller will officiate. Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

Mr. Leschber died Tuesday at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Temple.

Mr. Leschber was born in Thorndale and was a farmer. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II from 1944 to 1946 and a member of the Thorndale VFW, American Legion, the Thorndale Masonic Lodge, Lexington DAV and St. John Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Leschber of Thorndale; two daughters and sons-in-law, Doris and Rick Carter of Jarrell and Nancy M. and Mike Hollowell of Thrall; a brother, L. H. Leschber of San Gabriel; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Ramona Frances Martinez
April 12, 1917 — Jan. 1, 2003

CAMERON — Funeral services for Ramona Frances Martinez, 85, of Belton will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Cameron.

Burial will be at the St. Monica’s Cemetery in Cameron.

A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Thursday at Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Cameron.

Mrs. Martinez died Wednesday in a Temple hospital.

Mrs. Martinez was born in San Gabriel. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Monica’s Catholic Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Maria Rosa Martinez of Gatesville and Rebecca Tamez of Cameron; two sisters, Mary Martinez of Belton and Nicholasa Montavo of Rogers; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Bryan Anthony Short
Nov. 19, 2002 — Dec. 28, 2002

Graveside services for Bryan Anthony Short, infant, of College Station are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Bryan City Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.

Bryan died Saturday at his home.

He was born in College Station.

Survivors include his parents, Harold and Jennifer Hanson-Short of College Station; a sister, Alexandria Yvonne Short of College Station; a brother, David Allen Grassi of New Mexico; grandparents, Charlene V. and Aloise Wolfe of Bryan, and Terri K. Smith and Bill G. Bachman of Texas, and Malcolm Duff Short Sr. of Austin; and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.

Mitsoukla McCoy
Jan. 5, 1966 — Dec. 30, 2002

DALLAS — Services for Mitsoukla “Missy Toliver” McCoy, 36, of Dallas and formerly of Bryan are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Hopewell Baptist Church in Dallas.

The Rev. Michael Hubbard will officiate.

A memorial service will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Morning Star Bapist Church in Bryan. The Rev. H. Goodman will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Lomax Funeral Home in Dallas.

Ms. McCoy died Monday at Baylor Hospital in Dallas.

She was born in Canton and received her early education through Bryan schools before moving to Dallas.

Survivors include two daughters, Ta’mara Bentford and Ninja McCoy, both of Dallas; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Linda Hersi, Debra and Harold Evans, and Zeni and Michael Levels, all of Dallas; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Don and Linda Johnson and George and Donna McCoy, all of Dallas; stepsisters, stepbrothers and their spouses, Eloyce and William Grimes, Tyrone and Albertha Toliver, Jerone Toliver, Searcy Louise Toliver and Obbie and Joyce Toliver; her father, Searcy Lamar Toliver; and numerous other relatives.
