Melinda Nanette Douglas
Aug. 9, 1968 — Dec. 26, 2002

DALLAS — Services for Melinda Nanette Douglas, 34, of Dallas and formerly of Bryan, are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Assemblage of Praise Church in Bryan.

The Bishop M.C. Williams of Endtime Evangelistic Pentecostal Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Jones-Washington Mortuary.

Mrs. Douglas died Thursday at Parkland Hospital in Dallas.

She was born in Bryan and lived there for 28 years, graduating from A&M Consolidated High School. She was a church musician and director at the Heartline Worship Center in Dallas.

Survivors include her husband, B.K. Douglas of Dallas; a brother, JhaQuevion M. Adkins of Bryan; three sisters, Destaney U. Ballard of Bryan and Glenda Harris and Mable Williams, both of Dallas; her parents, Lovi J. and Ocie L. Williams of Bryan; and grandparents, Lee A. and Ocie Mae Owens and Johnnie Mae Williams of Bryan.

Memorials may be made to the Endtime Evangelistic Pentecostal Church.

Glenn Eugene Murphy
Feb. 21, 1931 — Jan. 1, 2003

CALVERT — Services for Glenn Eugene Murphy, 71, of Calvert are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Sneed Memorial Methodist Church in Calvert.

The Revs. Karen Williams and Kenneth Byrd will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunnyside Cemetery in Calvert.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan and from 10 a.m. until the services Saturday at the church.

Mr. Murphy died Wednesday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

He was born in Richards and lived in Calvert since 1980. He was a plumber.

Mr. Murphy was a member of the Eastern Star No. 311 in Franklin, the Masonic Pierce Lodge No. 144 in Calvert, the Scottish Rite in Austin and was former fire chief for the city of Calvert. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of Sneed Memorial Methodist Church in Calvert.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Murphy.

Survivors include his son, Jim Murphy of Norfolk, Va.; a brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Doris Murphy of Houston; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Virginia Floyd Slaton
Sept. 29, 1910 — Dec. 31, 2002

ROANS PRAIRIE — Services for Virginia Floyd Slaton, 92, of Roans Prairie are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Shiro Presbyterian Church.

Burial will be in the Roans Prairie Oakland Cemetery.

The Rev. Carroll L. Pickett will officiate.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Friday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Nobles Funeral Chapel in Navasota.

Mrs. Slaton died Tuesday at Grimes St. Joseph.

She was a lifetime resident of Roans Prairie and a retired school teacher. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and a member of the Shiro Presbyterian Church and the Music Study Club in Navasota.

She was preceded in death by her husband, T.J. Slaton.

Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law, Ted and Wanda Slaton of Fort Worth, Don and Mignon Slaton of Roans Prairie, and Errol and Debra Slaton and Glen and Linda Slaton, all of Friendswood; a sister-in-law, Frieda Floyd of Roans Prairie; 16 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchiildren.

Memorials may be made to Shiro Presbyterian Church.

Eva Maria Gramberg
Aug. 3, 1920 - Jan. 1, 2003

Graveside services for Eva Maria Gramberg, 82, of Bryan are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at College Station City Cemetery. Dr. Paulette Beatty will officiate.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home.

Mrs. Gramberg died Wednesday in Rockdale.

She was born in Oldenburg, Germany, and attended nursing school in Germany. She served valiantly with the German Red Cross during World War II as a nurse and moved to the United States in 1949 and to Bryan in the early ’50s.. She worked as a nurse at St. Joseph Hospital for many years. Following her retirement from hospital nursing, she worked as a private duty nurse. She also was a member of the German Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Edwin-Earl Gramberg.

Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Eva M. Maddox of Bryan and, Elaine and Robert Barr of Fairfax, Va.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Herbert Shafer
July 7, 1925 - Jan. 2, 2003

CENTERVILLE — Services for Herbert Shafer, 77, of Centerville are set for 3 p.m. Saturday at the Walters Funeral Home Chapel in Centerville.

Rev. Anthony Cecil of the First United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Liberty Cemetery, north of Centerville.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Frida,y with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Mr. Shafer died Thursday.

Born in Roosevelt, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a farmer and rancher. He had been a resident of Centerville since 1976 and was formerly of Palmer.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Locke Shafer of Centerville; six sons and daughters-in-law, James Rockefeller of Connecticut, Graham Rockefeller of Atlanta, Ga., Billy and Jeanette Shafer of Dallas, David and Hye Shafer of Florida, Texas, Larry and Irene Shafer of Dallas and Charlie and Robin Shafer of Centerville; three daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and James Hall of Dallas, Linda and Tom Rashell of Georgia and Paula and Bill Webb of Elkhart; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, the Scott & White Children’s Hospital in Temple or a charify of choice.

Francis Olene Fox
Aug. 20, 1921 - Jan. 2, 2003

MADISONVILLE — Services for Francis Olene Fox, 81, of Madisonville are set for 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Madisonville Funeral Home.

Rev. Jeff Witcher will officiate. Burial will be in the Mt. Tabor Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., and Sunday from 9 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Mrs. Fox died Thursday at the St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan.

She was born in Normangee. She lived in Madisonville since 1981 and was a member of the First Baptist Church. She worked as a postal worker for the U.S. Postal Service.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Leo Fox.

Survivors include a son, Virgil Gene Fox of Houston; two daughters and a son-in-law, Janelle Pendleton of Madisonville and Virginia McWhorter and husband Donald Lee of North Zulch; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Lester and Helen Grigory of Normangee andThomas O’Gene Grigory of Liverpool, Texas; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Sybil and Eddie Gilbert of Kilgore and Virgnia Bass of Houston; three grandchildren and two great-grandchldren.

Berthenia Lewis
May 28, 1929 — Dec. 28, 2002

HEARNE —Funeral services for Berthenia Lewis, 72, are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at New Elam Baptist Church.

Rev. O. W. Mack, the church pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Providence Cemetery in Branchville.

Robertson Funeral Chapel of Hearne is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lewis died Saturday in Dallas.

She was born in Branchville.

She is survived by two daughters, Teresa Lewis of Dallas and Christina Whiteside of Hearne; a sister, Helen Moss of Hearne; an adopted daughter, Barbara Dismuke of Dallas; four grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Glenn Eugene Murphy
February 21, 1931 – January 1, 2003

Services for Glenn Eugene Murphy 71, of Calvert are set for 11:00 A.M. Saturday at Sneed Memorial Methodist Church in Calvert under the direction of Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan. The Reverends Karen Williams and Kenneth Byrd will officiate.

Visitation will be held From 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan and Saturday 10:00 A.M. to the time of service at the church. Burial will be at Sunnyside Cemetery in Calvert.

Mr. Murphy died Wednesday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan. Glenn was born in Richards, Texas and has resided in the Calvert area since 1980 where he was a member of the Sneed Memorial Methodist Church and a member of the Masonic Pierce Lodge #144 in Calvert , where he also has served as Fire Chief. He had also been a member of the Eastern Star #311 in Franklin and member of the Scottish Rite in Austin. Glenn was a retired veteran serving in the Navy.

Survivors include his son; Jim Murphy of NorFolk, VA, Brother; Steve Murphy and his wife Doris of Houston, special friend; Yvonne Gallagher of Bryan, numerous nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his wife Edith Murphy.
