Michael F. Heintz
Oct. 18, 1908 — Jan. 26, 2003

NAVASOTA — Services for Michael F. Heintz, 94, of Navasota are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Kingdom Hall in Navasota.

Brother Larry Reina of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Nobles Funeral Chapel in Navasota.

Mr. Heintz died Sunday in Navasota.

He was born in Plantersville and was a country-western musician.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ora Lessie Heintz; and two sons, James Vaydak and Fabian Heintz.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jerome and Peggy Heintz of Hempstead and Dennis Heintz of Katy; five daughters, Doris Emerson of Cape Canaveral, Fla., Marie Vaydak, Michaeline Heintz Mathews and Theresa Heintz, all of Houston, and Rita Heintz of Sugar Land; three brothers, Francis “Dutch” Heintz, Daniel Heintz and Albert Heintz; four sisters, Elizabeth Maywald, Rose Marie Gallatin, Anna Diehl and Madeline Barrett; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Anita Pauline Koenig
Oct. 14, 1912 — Jan. 26, 2003

CAMERON — Services for Anita Pauline Koenig, 90, of Denton and formerly of the Sharp community are set for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Kathryn W. Green Chapel of Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Cameron.

The Rev. Floyd Koenig will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Koenig died Sunday at her home.

She was born in the Sharp community and was an accountant with the Texas State Comptrollers office. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Georgetown.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Koenig; and a son, Floris Gene Koenig.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Leon and Annette Koenig of Argyle, Clyde and Rejane Koenig of Austin and Floyd and Rosalie Koenig of Wooster, Ohio; a daughter-in-law, Pat Koenig of Rockport; a brother and sister-in-law, Archie and Lucille Prokisch of Cameron; 14 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

C.J. ‘Pappy’ Reese Jr.
June 12, 1922 — Jan. 26, 2003

ROCKDALE — Services for C.J. “Pappy” Reese Jr., 80, of Lexington are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

The Rev. Leonard Leak of the Adina Christian Church in Adina will officiate. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery near Milano.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Reese died Sunday in St. David’s Hospital in Austin.

He was born in Rogers and lived in Lexington since 1986. He formerly lived in Elgin. He was retired after 30 years as a police officer with the Austin Police Department and 10 years with the Lexington Police Department. He was a member of the Adina Christian Church, the Lexington Masonic Lodge and the American Legion Post in Lexington. He served in the U.S. Navy as a radioman second class during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Reese of Lexington; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffery Scott and Vickie Reese of Bastrop and William Bradley and Susan Reese of Elgin; three step-daughters and sons-in-law, Jalene and Randle Tucek, Glynda and John Stiles and Connie and Dale Moenhke, all of Taylor; three grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

Wade Stolz
July 6, 1980 — Jan. 26, 2003

BRENHAM — Services for Wade Stolz, 22, of Brenham are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Christ Lutheran Church in Brenham.

The Rev. Blair Lundborg will officiate. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham.

Mr. Stolz died Sunday in Scott & White Hospital in Temple.

He was born in Victoria and was a student at TSTI in Waco. He was a graduate of Brenham High School.

Survivors include his parents, Allen and Mary Sklar Stolz of Brenham; a sister and brother-in-law, Kim and Scott Applewhite of Austin; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran Church in Brenham or the Scott & White Memorial Hospital, Attention: Development Office, 2401 S. 31st Street, Temple, Texas 76508.

Garnett Mitchell Tillman Sr.
March 13, 1927 — Jan. 24, 2003

BRENHAM — Services for Garnett Mitchell Tillman Sr., 75, of Brenham are set for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Brenham.

The Revs. Fred Trevino and Wesley Wellborn will officiate. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham.

Mr. Tillman died Friday in Cleveland, Ohio.

He was born in Hearne and was retired from the Danner Corporation and Sinclair Oil. He attended the University of Texas and was a graduate of the University of Tennessee. He served as a radarman aboard the USS Washburn and USS Chilton in the Asiatic Pacific during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Ann Routt Tillman of Brenham; his mother, Gertrude Mitchell Tillman of Austin; two daughters and sons-in-law, Judith Nichole Tillman and Glen E. Soldan of Shaker Heights, Ohio, and Julia Ann Tillman and Norman Redd of Windsor, S.C.; a brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. W. Terrell Tillman of Atlanta, Ga.; a sister-in-law, Mrs. William Charles Tillman Jr. of Fort Worth; his Texas family, (these are stepchildren, but they don’t want to be called stepchildren) Marjorie R. Young, Matthew A. Routt and Milton L. “Chip” Routt; and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Health Services Foundation, 700 Medical Parkway, Brenham, Texas 77833 or to the American Cancer Society.

Vera Toler
Aug. 31, 1920 — Jan. 26, 2003

Vera Toler, 82, of Bryan and formerly of Hearne died Sunday at Sherwood Healthcare Center.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.

Mrs. Toler was born in Oklahoma and was a homemaker. She recently moved to Bryan from Hearne, where she lived eight years. She was a Baptist.

Survivors include her husband, Forrest E. Toler of Hearne; a son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Regene Toler of Hearne; a grandchild; and a great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Brazos Valley, 502 W. 26th Street, Bryan, Texas 77803.

Douglas Raymond Vavra
Nov. 15, 1934 — Jan. 25, 2003

CALDWELL — Services for Douglas Raymond Vavra, 68, of Caldwell are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home in Galveston.

The Rev. Leo Wluzyk will officiate. Burial will be at Galveston Memorial Cemetery in Hitchcock.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

An Elks service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Vavra died Saturday at his home.

He was born in Burleson County and lived in Galveston 48 years. He was member of the Galveston Fire Department 33 years. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge No. 126 in Galveston, the Eagles Aries No. 3784 of Santa Fe and the SPJST No. 17 in Caldwell.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Opal Vavra.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Vavra; two steps-son and a daughter-in-law, Earl Gene and Sylvia Ricicar and Mike Linqua; a stepdaughter, Dolly Womble; stepchildren, Kathy Gammill, Christine Sewell, W.T. Jay Jr., Patrick Jay and Belinda Parks; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of choice.

Vicente ‘Bennie’ Casares
Jan. 22, 1923 — Jan. 27, 2003

Services for Vicente “Bennie” Casares, 80, of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Thursday at Santa Teresa Catholic Church.

The Rev. Albert Ruiz of Santa Teresa Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Callaway-Jones Chapel in Bryan.

Mr. Casares died Monday at his home.

He was a lifelong resident of Bryan. He was a landscaper in the grounds maintenance department of Texas A&M University for 33 years before his retirement. He was a member of Santa Teresa Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Felipa Casares.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Erma and Amos Menchaca and Maria Louisa and Antonio Ayala, all of Bryan; a brother, Navor Casares Sr. of Bryan; a sister, Vicenta Casares of Bryan; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Hospice Brazos Valley, 502 W. 26th St., Bryan, Texas 77803.

Mildred Vermel Gates
June 27, 1914 — Jan. 27, 2003

ROCKDALE — Services for Mildred Vermel Gates, 88, of Rockdale and formerly of Hearne are set for 3 p.m. Wednesday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale.

Mrs. Gates died Monday at Richards Memorial Hospital in Rockdale.

She was a resident of Rockdale since 1989 and formerly of Hearne. She was a homemaker.

She attended elementary school at Cego through the seventh grade and graduated from Marlin High School in 1933. She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Rockdale.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Gates.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth W. and Jane Gates of Moody; a daughter and son-in-law, Vermel and S.C. Bland of Rockdale; two sisters, Dorothy Stephenson of Belton and Betty Rose of Temple; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
