Orvil K. “Ken” Freeman
Nov. 27, 1939 – Jan. 28, 2003

Services for Orvil K. “Ken” Freeman, 63, of Bryan are set for 11 a.m. Friday at Hillier Funeral Home. Mike Driskell of the North Bryan Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses will officiate.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday and from 8-10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Freeman died Tuesday at Fall’s County Community Hospital in Marlin, Tx. He was born in Piedmont, Alabama and lived in Bryan since 1997. He was a retired funeral director and embalmer in Florida and Georgia. He also owned and operated Ken’s Upholstery and Auto Trim in Austell, Ga. For 19 years. Mr. Freeman was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 289 of Douglasville, Ga., and the Shrine Yarab Temple of Atlanta and the Sweetwater Shrine Club of Douglasville, Ga. He was a 32nd. Degree Mason.

Survivors include his wife, Mary P. Freeman of Bryan and their children: Mary Jo and Oscar Chappell of Bryan and family: Bradley Chappell and daughter Madison, Angela and Sam Brown, Morgun and Garrett Brown, and Michael and Patrick Daniell. Susan and David Hartzog of Bryan and son, Victor Pease. Robert Stephen Freeman of Austell, Ga. Lee G. Jr. and Kim Widdison of Bryan, Tx. And family: Logan, Kendra and Marissa Widdison. Melinda K. and Freddy Jones of Austell, Ga., and family: Christopher and Caelan Jones. James K. and Amanda Freeman of Newnan, Ga. and son, Andrew. Tamara L. and Garland Crabb of Bryan, TX. A brother and sister-in-law: Robert Jr. and Cynthia Lyon of Irmo, SC. A sister and brother-in-law: Mary Francis and Burt Wolf of Mount Pleasant, SC

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Brazos Valley Rehabilitation Center, 1318 Memorial Dr., Bryan, Tx. 77802

Thelma Lois Ellis Evans
Aug. 29, 1917 — Jan. 29, 2003

JEWETT —Services for Thelma Lois Ellis Evans, 85, of Jewett are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Jewett.

The Revs. James Engle of First Baptist Church in Jewett and Billy Bob Evans of Marquez Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Jewett City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to noon Thursday at Ricks-Bowers Funeral Home in Jewett.

Mrs. Evans died Wednesday.

Mrs. Evans was born in Friendship and lived in Jewett for most of her life. She was a clerk for the city of Jewett Water Department and was a member of First Baptist Church in Jewett.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Evans.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Dianne Ellis Evans; a sister and brother-in-law, Burma Fay and Oren Beal of Bryan; a sister-in-law, Erna Ellis of Pearland; two grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Austin ‘Bud’ Patchen
April 3, 1950 — Jan. 29, 2003

SOMERVILLE — Austin “Bud” Patchen, 52, of Somerville died Wednesday near Somerville as a result of a motorcycle accident.

Arrangements are under the direction of Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville.

Mr. Patchen was born in Houston. He worked as a heavy-equipment operator doing environmental cleanup work.

Survivors include his mother, Annie Schoenberg Patchen Langlais of Somerville; his stepfather, Arthur Langlais of Somerville; his fiancee, Carol Oliver of Houston; his father, Jack Daniel Patchen of Houston; a son, Glen Patchen of Houston; and a brother, Jack Ephrim Patchen of League City.

Lytosha Thompson Campbell
Nov. 24, 1976 — Jan. 27, 2003

Services for Lytosha Thompson Campbell, 26, of Bryan are set for 11 a.m. Friday at North Bryan New Birth Church.

The Rev. Lonzell Payton will officiate. Burial will be in the Roan Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Jones-Washington Mortuary in Bryan.

Mrs. Campbell died Monday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

She was a lifetime resident of Bryan and had attended Blinn Junior College and Charles & Sue’s School of Hair Design. She was a member of North Bryan New Birth Church.

Survivors include her husband, Ronald Campbell of Bryan; two stepsons, Ronald Penny and Benny Penny, both of Bryan; two stepdaughters, Tosha Campbell and Nancy Heard, both of Bryan; a brother, Keyon D. Thompson of Tulsa, Okla.; two brothers-in-law, Frederick Campbell and Willie Campbell, both of Bryan; two sisters, Ashanta R. Thompson and Sparkle T. Thompson, both of Bryan; four sisters-in-law, Melva Campbell, Wilma Campbell, Rachelle Campbell and Charlene Campbell, all of Bryan; her mother, Cynthia D. Thompson of Tulsa; her father, Steven Breed of San Antonio; her grandparents, Joyce Thompson of Bryan and the Rev. and Mrs. Breed of Kerryville; and a great-grandmother, Ceolia Thompson of Houston.

Peter Schubrych
Sept. 15, 1916 — Jan. 28, 2003

BREMOND — Services for Peter Schubrych, 86, of Bremond are set for 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bremond.

The Rev. Celso Yu will officiate. Interment will be in the mausoleum at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Bremond.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Bremond Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.

Mr. Schubrych died Tuesday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

Mr. Schubrych was a refrigeration engineer for Swift & Co. in Chicago and a member of the Knights of Columbus in Bremond. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart, a Bronze Star, four battle stars and other commendations. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where he was an usher.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Adeline Andriauskas Schubrych.

Survivors include a brother, Adam Schubrych of Bremond, and a sister, Eve Nicolette of Robinson.

Ruth C. Schaffer
April 7, 1925 — Jan. 28, 2003

Graveside services for Ruth C. Schaffer, 77, of College Station are set for 2 p.m. Friday at College Station Cemetery.

Rabbi Peter Tarlow will officiate.

Visitation was held Thursday at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.

Mrs. Schaffer died Tuesday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

She was born in Providence, R.I., and was a retired professor of sociology at Texas A&M University.

Survivors include her husband, Albert Schaffer of College Station; and two daughters, Edie Schaffer and Pamela Wade of San Francisco.

Carl Winfred White
June 20, 1914 — Jan. 28, 2003

KERRVILLE — Services for Carl Winfred White, 88, of Kerrville and formerly of Centerville are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at Walters Funeral Home Chapel in Centerville.

The Rev. Larry Ashey will officiate. Burial will be in the Concord Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. White died Tuesday.

He was born in Leon County and served in the U.S. Army during World War II and worked for Hughes Tool Co. He was a machinist for more than 33 years until his retirement. He moved from Centerville to Kerrville in 1995. Mr. White was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gussie R. White.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Sandra Winfred White of Kerrville; a daughter-in-law, Carolyn White of Bryan; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Hazel and Jack Robinson of Kosse, Sybil and Charlie Coffey of Spring and Melba Hall of Nacogdoches; two sisters-in-law, Carrie John Adams of Spring and Inge Williams of Centerville; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church of Kerrville Building Fund, the Kerrville Humane Society or to a charity of choice.

Mildred Winters
Oct. 16, 1914 — Jan. 29, 2003

MADISONVILLE — Services for Mildred Winters, 88, of Madisonville are set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Madisonville Funeral Home.

The Revs. Galen Cooper of Uvalde Baptist Church in Houston and Vaughn Tatum of First Baptist Church in Madisonville will officiate. Burial will be in the Greenbriar Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m.

Mrs. Winters died Wednesday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

She was a lifelong resident of Madisonville and was a homemaker and member of First Baptist Church in Madisonville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Winters.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Curtis Dishongh of Houston; a sister-in-law, Lonis Thompson of Madisonville; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Willie Lee ‘Sonny’ Williams Sr.
July 29, 1933 — Jan. 25, 2003

Services for Willie Lee “Sonny” Williams, Sr., 69, of Bryan are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Assemblage of Praise in Bryan.

The Rev. M.O. Cooper of St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Jones-Washington Mortuary in Bryan.

Mr. Williams died Saturday in Navasota.

A lifelong resident of Brazos County, he was a retired auto mechanic specialist for Sears. He attended Bryan public schools and Prairie View A&M College. The Rev. Williams served as deacon, superintendent and Sunday School teacher for many years at the Pilgrims Rest Baptist Church. He was a member of St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Cesther Williams.

Survivors include two sons, Willie Lee Williams Jr. and John L. Williams, both of Bryan; three daughters, Annie Harris of Fort Worth, Cynthia Smith of Orlando, Fla., and Sandra K. Thomas of Bryan; a brother, Elzia Ray Williams of Torrance, Calif.; five sisters, Mary Ruth Peterson of Rankins, Birdie Mae Miller of Compton, Calif., Gloria Ann Williams of Torrance, Patsy Everline of Bryan and Glenora McCoy of Bryan; 17 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the St. Matthews Missionary Baptist Church.
