Vick Bill Karonika
Aug. 26, 1931 — Dec. 5, 2002

ANDERSON — Funeral services for Vick Bill Karonika, 71, of Brenham are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Anderson.

The Rev. Louis S. Sikorski of St. Stanislaus will officiate. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday at Lindley-Robertson-Holt Funeral Home in Navasota.

Mr. Karonika died Thursday.

He was born in Anderson and was a retired carpenter.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Fischer Karonika.

Survivors include two brothers, Frankie Karonika and Lewis Karonika, both of Houston; and four sisters, Christine Berger of Navasota, Ann Brewer of Houston, Theresa Decker of Livingston and Mary Maghe of Houston.

Frank Chester Konieczny
April 2, 1933 — Dec. 4, 2002

Services for Frank Chester Konieczny, 69, of Brenham are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brenham.

The Rev. Richard Tijerina of St. Mary’s Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation begins at 6 p.m. Friday at Memorial Oaks Chapel and a rosary will be recited there at 7 p.m.

Mr. Konieczny died Wednesday at home.

He was born in Washington County. He was retired from Maddox Furniture and Chappell Hill Construction. He attended Wesley Public School. He was a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus and member of St. Mary’s.

Suvivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Darlene Konieczny of Brenham; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Annie and Albert Rybarski, Genevieve Rybarski and Louise and Albin Bolcerek, all of Brenham; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Konieczny of Houston.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s.

Rebecca Catharine Jones Landmann
Aug. 4, 1919 — Dec. 3, 2002

Funeral services for Rebecca Catharine Jones Landmann, 83, of College Station are set for 10 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church of Bryan.

The Rev. Philip McLarty will officiate. Burial will be in the College Station Cemetery. Hillier Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Mrs. Landmann died Tuesday at St. Joseph Manor.

She was born in Lexington, Ill. She received her master’s degree from the University of Illinois. She moved to College Station in 1964. She was a retired school libriarian who had worked for the Bryan school district.

She was a member of the A&M Women’s Social Club and of the First Presbyterian Church of Bryan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Wendell Landmann.

Survivors include two sons, David G. Landmann of Copperas Cove and Rick F. Landmann of Caldwell; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 1100 Carter Creek, Bryan, 77802 or StageCenter Community Theatres, 701 Main St., Bryan, 77803.

Hollis Duncan Lemons
Aug. 24, 1908 — Dec. 3, 2002

ROCKDALE — Funeral services for Hollis Duncan Lemons, 94, of Niceville, Fla., and formerly of Rockdale are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

Dr. Gregory Nichols of First Christian Church-Lexington will officiate.

Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Lemons died Tuesday in Florida.

She was born in the Forest Grove community near Rockdale and was a homemaker. She belonged to First Christian Church in Rockdale and was a member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary and the Duncan Home Demonstration Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Lemons, and a son, William Barkley Duncan.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Tommie Ruth Duncan of Niceville; a daughter and son-in-law, Wanda D. and Theo Cochrane of Lincolnton, N.C.; a stepdaughter, Linda Waterbury and husband Floyd of Fort Worth; a daughter-in-law, Della Dial and husband Joe of Galveston; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, 231 Burleson, Rockdale, TX 76567.

Adele Louise Sohns Mabry
Sept. 6, 1914 — Dec. 4, 2002

BRENHAM — Funeral services for Adele Louise Sohns Mabry, 88, of Brenham are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham.

Burial will be at 4 p.m. Saturday in Shiloh Cemetery in Prairie View.

Mrs. Mabry died Wednesday in Brenham.

She was born in Thrall. She was a retired bookkeeper for an insurance company.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Halbert Mabry.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Gwendolyn and Glenn Gates of Houston; a sister, Irene Tiemann of Houston; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Edgar Lewis “Brighteyes” Nealy Jr.
July 30, 1961 — Dec. 1, 2002

Services for Edgar Lewis “Brighteyes” Nealy Jr., 41, of Leona are set for 1 p.m. Saturday at Two-Mile United Methodist Church east of Leona.

The Rev. Carey Cauley, the pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Two-Mile Paradise Cemetery. Walters Funeral Home in Centerville is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

Mr. Nealy died Sunday following a lengthy illness.

He was born in Madisonville, raised in Leona and graduated from Centerville High School. He was employed for more than 13 years by the Frank Knight Plumbing Co. in Centerville. He was a member of the Two-Mile Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Evelyn Louise Nealy.

Survivors include his parents, Edgar Lewis Nealy Sr. and Willie Mae Nealy of Leona; a daughter, Kenisha Denise Nealy of Centerville; two brothers, Jeffery Nealy of Leona and John F. Nealy of Fort Worth; and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.

Virgil Bryant Spence Jr.
Jan. 10, 1953 — Dec. 2, 2002

HEARNE —Funeral services for Virgil Bryant Spence Jr., 49, of Franklin are set for 3 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Hearne.

Rev. Larry Blackmon of First Baptist will officiate.

Burial will be in Norwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Heartfield Funeral Home.

Mr. Spence died Tuesday.

He was the city attorney for Hearne and Bremond. He was a co-owner of Love Abstract Co. in Franklin. Mr. Spence was a member and past worshipful master of Golden Rule Masonic Lodge No. 361.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine Spence of Franklin; a son, Virgil Bryant Spence III of Franklin; two daughters, Candace Elizabeth Spence and Rebecca Noel Spence, both of Franklin; a sister and two brother-in-laws, Beverly and Mike Mathis of Belton and Gene Wilganowski Jr.; his father, Virgil Bryant Spence Sr. of Orange; his mother and stepfather, Ruth and Herman Schoenemann of Carmine; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gene and Monique Wilganowski of Franklin.

Alice Jewel Valla
July 18, 1918 — Dec. 3, 2002

SOMERVILLE — Funeral services for Alice Jewel Valla, 84, of Lyons are set for 2 p.m. Friday at Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville.

Rev. Jim Mullens will officiate.

Burial will follow a chapel service at 1 p.m. Monday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Beaumont.

Mrs Valla died Tuesday.

She was born in Haywood and attended school in Beaumont. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Lyons and belonged to quilting guilds in Brenham, Bryan, Somerville, Caldwell and Giddings. She was also a member of the Lyons Extension Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Valla.

Survivors include her daughters, Geraldine Sibbet and Georgia Belin; her sister, Opal Chadwell of Dripping Springs; her brother and sister-in-law, Cecil Sr. and Joyce Norris of Beaumont; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be given to a charity of choice.
