Randolph Mooring
June 25, 1917 — Dec. 7, 2002

DICKINSON — Services for Randolph Mooring, 85, of Dickinson are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Anderson.

The Rev. Tommie Lewis will officiate. Burial will be in the Forrest Park East Cemetery in Houston on Monday.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at Jones Funeral Home in Navasota.

Mr. Mooring died Saturday at Regency Village Nursing Home in Webster.

He was born in Anderson.

Survivors include his wife, Annie Price Mooring of Dickinson; three sons and a daughter-in-law, R.J. and LaShon Mooring, Chester Mooring and Raymond Mooring; a stepson, Glenn Calhoun; four stepdaughters, Jewel Brown and her husband George, Wanda McIntosh and her husband Reggie, Annette Walker and her husand Grayling, and Joyce Price; two brothers, Wendell Mooring of Anderson and Clint Mooring of California; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Anthony “Tony” Urso
Sept. 15, 1910 — Dec. 12, 2002

Services for Anthony “Tony” Urso, 92, of College Station are set for 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.

The Rev. Kirby Garner will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Mr. Urso died Thursday at Renaissance Villa in Rockdale.

He was born in Burleson County and lived in College Station most of his life. He retired from Texas A&M University in the food service department. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Urso.

Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Frances M. Kraft of Needville Woodrow community and Virginia and Delmer Charanza of College Station; two sons and daughters-in-law, Sam and Gerry Urso and Paul and Ginger Urso, all of College Station; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.

Ivey L. Ham
Sept. 23, 1914 — Dec. 11, 2002

BRENHAM — Services for Ivey L. Ham, 88, of Brenham are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church in Prairie Hill.

Dr. Sue Beall will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham.

Mr. Ham died Wednesday in Brenham.

Mr. Ham was born in Eagle Lake. He had been a rancher and was retired from the Shell Oil Co.

Survivors include his wife, Edna Eickenhorst Ham of Brenham; a son, Reeves Ham of Brenham; a daughter and son-in-law, Bernice and Bill Gaskamp of Brenham; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Ford and Mildred Ham of Elkart and Jack Ham of Beaumont; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Cordie and Hubert Wallace of Pledger, Jessie and Robert Brezik of Clear Lake and Robbie Walden of Overton; a sister-in-law, Zera Ham of Jasper; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church in Prairie Hill or a favorite charity.

John W. “Johnnie” Holick
September 6, 1907 - December 6, 2002

John W. “Johnnie” Holick passed away Friday morning, Dec 6, 2002 at the age of 95. A memorial service will be held Sunday, December 15, 2pm at All Faith’s Chapel on the Texas A&M Campus.

Johnnie was the last surviving child of Joseph Holick, founder of the Aggie Band, and last of the five Holick sons to make the famous Aggie boots worn by the seniors in the Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M. Johnnie was one of seven children born to Helen and Joseph Holick in their home near what is now Holick Lane in Bryan, Texas on September 6, 1907. He started school at Union Hill

Primary, graduated from Consolidated High School and accepted a full scholarship in music to Allen Military Academy in Bryan.

As a young man Johnnie was a professional musician. He played flute, piccolo, saxophone and clarinet in orchestras and bands around the state. Later, he played in the Bryan Civic Orchestra. Johnnie was also an award winning amateur photographer and a trophy skeet shooter. He was a lifetime member of Birchridge Hunting Club. During the 50’s and 60’s he held two patents for molded plastic flight-suit insignia and the first clear plastic pocket-style holder for nametags. It was during this time that he purchased the last remaining interest in his family’s bootmaking and shoe repair business. It was in this same building, in the Northgate district near A&M, that he produced his patented products.

He continued working until the age of 92 and still consulted with the present bootmakers even this year. Beyond his talents and endeavors Johnnie will be remembered by friends and family as one of the gentlest men they have known.

Survivors include Dorothy Elizabeth Bueker Holick, his wife of 62 years; three daughters, Billie June Reece of Wimberley, Carolyn Matheson of College Station and Kathleen Dudley of College Station; eight grandchildren residing in Texas; Cathie Baker of Burleson, Susie Ference of Keller, Terri Hager Scherer of South Lake, Scott Speer of Athens, Kurt Reece of Pflugerville, Troy Speer of Wimberley, Brian Dudley of Austin, Brandon Dudley of Houston, and DeLaine Stehle of Canton, Ohio. There are twelve great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

Charles A. Ballew Sr.
Nov. 19, 1929 — Dec. 11, 2002

Services for Charles A. Ballew Sr., 73, of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bryan.

Monsignor John McCaffrey of St. Joseph Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in Rest-Ever Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.

A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Ballew died Wednesday at his home.

He was born in Newberry, S.C., and lived in Bryan since 1960. He was an automobile mechanic and worked for Halsell Dodge and Bossier Chrysler/Dodge for 33 years. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion Earl Graham Post 159 in Bryan. He was also a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council 11759.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Veronica Ballew and Geraldine Ballew.

Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Charles A. Ballew Jr., Terry and Cynthia Ballew and Sam and Gayla Ballew, all of Bryan; two daughters and a son-in-law, Elaine Anderson of Caldwell and Nancy and Brandon Lenz of Kurten; a brother, Ostell Ballew of South Carolina; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the St. Joseph School Trust Fund.

Edna Louise Wensel Becker
Oct. 15, 1912 — Dec. 12, 2002

BRENHAM — Services for Edna Louise Wensel Becker, 90, of Brenham are set for 2 p.m. Sunday at Grace Lutheran Church in Brenham.

The Rev. Matthew Jacobs will officiate. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham.

Mrs. Becker died Thursday in Bryan.

She was born in Austin County and was retired as a salesperson for a clothing store.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Becker.

Survivors include a son, Donald “Bubba” Becker of Brenham, and a sister-in-law, Elsie Becker of Brenham.

Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church or to a charity of choice.

Joe Charles ‘Papa Joe’ Greenway Sr.
Feb. 12, 1912 — Dec. 9, 2002

BUFFALO — Services for Joe Charles “Papa Joe” Greenway Sr., 90, of Palestine were held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Park Temple Baptist Church in Pasadena.

The Rev. Andrew Knight officiated. Burial was in the Grandview Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Buffalo Funeral Home.

Mr. Greenway died Monday at the Cartmell Home for the Aged in Palestine.

He was born in Oenaville in Falls County.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Hood Greenway; and a son, James Joel Greenway.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Conrad Noel and Margaret Greenway of LaRue and Joe Charles Jr. and Barbara Greenway of Pasadena; a daughter and son-in-law, Patsy Joyce and Howard L. Myers Sr. of Oakwood; a daughter-in-law, Annette Greenway of Theodore, Ala.; a sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and A.L. Hunnicutt of Arlington; a brother and sister-in-law, Jake and Patsy Greenway of Copperas Cove; 10 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Richard J. Stauch
Feb. 18, 1913 — Dec. 13, 2002

Graveside services for Richard J. Stauch, 89, of Bryan are set for 1 p.m. Sunday at the Bryan City Cemetery.

Bob Wolfert of the Central Church of Christ will officiate.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan.

Mr. Stauch died Friday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

He was born in Peru, Ill., and lived in Bryan since 1975. He retired in 1975 from the purchasing department of Firestone Tire & Rubber, Electric Wheel Division, in Quincy, Ill.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Stauch of Bryan; a daughter and son-in-law, Gay and David Safford of Brewster, N.Y.; a sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Walter Lamps of Peru, Ill.; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.

Tom Goodwin Stewart
June 1, 1920 — Dec. 9, 2002

Services for Tom Goodwin Stewart, 82, of Bryan are set for 2 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church in Bryan.

The Rev. Tim Owen of the First Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Bryan City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan and from 1 p.m. to the time of the services Monday at the church.

Mr. Stewart died Monday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

He was born in Bryan and was retired as sales manager for Kraft Furniture. He attended Texas A&M University. He belonged to the First Baptist Church of Bryan, where he was a member of the Business Men’s Bible Class.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Byrd Stewart.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Lisha Finley of Waikoloa, Hawaii, and Bob and Tamara Finley of Austin; two sisters-in-law, Billie Stewart of Bryan and Jacqueline Stewart of Mississippi; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
