Jennings Russell ‘J.R.’ Squires
June 6, 1920 — Dec. 25, 2002

DURANT, Okla. — Services for Jennings Russell “J.R.” Squires, 82, of Durant are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at Faith Baptist Church in Durant.

The Rev. Phillip Rowland will officiate. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Norwood Cemetery in Hearne.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Dalton-Holmes Funeral Home in Durant.

Local arrangements are under the direction of Heartfield Funeral Home in Hearne.

Mr. Squires died Wednesday in the Medical Center of Southeastern Oklahoma in Durant.

He was born in Hearne and lived in Oklahoma since 1977. He formerly lived in Plano and Irving. He was a retired brick contractor and rancher. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the VFW and was a member the Elks Lodge in Irving. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard and was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, LaFae Squires of Durant; a daughter, Barbara Jean Squires of Irving; two sons, William Russell Squires of Tampa, Fla., and John Brandon Squires of Durant; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Bernice and Mack Carmack of Mesquite, Beulah Wood of Plano and Bunnie and Bucky Garner of Hunnington Beach, Calif.; three grandsons; and two nephews.

Marvin Wilson Davis
Nov. 13, 1916 — Dec. 5, 2002

FRANKLIN — Graveside services for Marvin Wilson Davis, 86, of New Baden are set for 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Camp Creek Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at McCauley Funeral Home in Franklin.

Mr. Davis died Dec. 5 in Bryan.

He was born in Cherokee County, Ala., and lived in Franklin most of his life. He attended Franklin High School and was retired from the maintenance department at Hill Top Lakes Resort. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma Davis of New Baden; a sister, Mary Clark of Corpus Christi; three sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Verda Mae Holidy of Houston, Doris and Tom Blair and Billie Jo Sweatt, all of Franklin; and a nephew.

Helen D. Marsh
March 16, 1930 — Dec. 24, 2002

FRANKLIN — Services for Helen D. Marsh, 72, of Franklin are set for 11 a.m. Friday at the McCauley Funeral Home Chapel in Franklin.

Lee Caldwell of Easterly will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery near Franklin.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to the time of services Friday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Marsh died Tuesday in Bryan.

She was born in Gary and lived in Franklin 12 years. She formerly lived in Pasadena and was employed by the Pasadena Nursing Home as a dietitian. She was retired and was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Leo E. Marsh of Franklin; a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Steve Snell of Clear Lake; a brother, Johnny Hall of Jackson, Miss.; and three grandchildren.

Earl Henry Phillips
Nov. 11, 1918 — Dec. 23, 2002

HEARNE — Services for Earl Henry Phillips, 84, of Hearne are set for noon Saturday at St. Emanuel Missionary Baptist Church in Hearne.

The Rev. O.W. Mack of New Elam Missionary Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Greater Riverside Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. Friday at Robertson Funeral Chapel in Hearne.

Mr. Phillips died Monday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

He was a lifelong resident of Hearne and was retired. He served seven years in the U.S. Army and was a member of St. Emanuel Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Ernestine Phillips of Hearne; four sons, Stanley E. Phillips of Hearne, Elliott Thompson of Bryan, James T. Thompson of Waco and Billy R. Thompson of Germany; two daughters, Sheila Phillips and Elizabeth Taylor, both of Hearne; 25 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

John L. Burgess
Nov. 29, 1920 — Dec. 24, 2002

Services for John L. Burgess, 82, of Bryan are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethel Baptist Church in Calvert.

The Rev. Kervin Babers of Bethel Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Beauty Rest Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Jones-Washington Mortuary in Bryan.

Mr. Burgess died Tuesday in Sherwood Health Care.

He was born in Calvert and lived in Bryan for 38 years. He was retired and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife, Viola Burgess of Bryan; two sons, Richard E. Burgess of Delaware and John L. Burgess Jr. of Arizona; a stepson, Willie Niblett of Odessa; a daughter, Rosie Burgess of College Station; two brothers, James Burgess of Los Angeles, and Tommy Burgess of Gardenia, Calif.; three sisters, Ruth Newton of Los Angeles, Idella Beard of Oxnard, Calif., and Lenora Blair of Dallas; and 12 grandchildren.

Darlene Kay Banks Ryan
April 20, 1965 — Dec. 26, 2002

Services for Darlene Kay Banks Ryan, 37, of Bryan are set for 2:30 p.m. Monday at Hillier Funeral Home.

The Rev. Jack Cook will officiate. Burial will be in Alexander Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday and from 1 p.m. to the time of services Monday at the funeral home.

Ms. Ryan died Thursday at her home.

She was born in Wilmington, Ohio, and lived in Bryan since 1978. She was employed at St. Joseph Regional Health Center as an LVN. She was a student at Blinn College working on a BS in nursing. She was a Baptist.

Survivors include a son, Wesley Prado of Eureka Springs, Ark.; three daughters, Audra Ryan, Melody Ryan and Jaimie Prado, all of Caldwell; a brother and sister-in-law, Demmer Jr. and Terry Banks of St. Louis, Mo.; a sister and brother-in-law, Kim and Doug Hensarling of Bryan; her mother, Margaret B. Banks of Eureka Springs; and a grandchild.

Elizabeth Ann Bonifazi
Aug. 24, 1937 — Dec. 27, 2002

Services for Elizabeth Ann Bonifazi, 65, of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Monday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.

Monsignor John McCaffrey of St. Joseph Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 8 a.m. to the time of services Monday a the funeral home.

Mrs. Bonifazi died Friday at Colton Inn.

She was born in Brazos County and was a lifelong resident of Bryan. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Anthony Bonifazi of Bryan; a son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Shirley Rice of Bryan; two daughters and sons-in-law, Katherine and James Henry of Carlos and Carolyn and David Stone of Bryan; a sister, Wanda Zersendaal of Harrisburg, Ark.; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Thomas Woodrow Johnson
Jan. 3, 1952 — Dec. 16, 2002

WACO — Graveside services for Thomas Woodrow Johnson, 50, of Waco were at 10 a.m. Friday at Restland Cemetery in Waco.

Arrangements were under the direction of Wilkirson, Hatch & Bailey Funeral Homes in Waco.

Mr. Johnson died Dec. 16.

Clara Virginia Bell Anderson
Sept. 24, 1915 — Dec. 27, 2002

Services for Clara Virginia Bell Anderson, 87, of College Station are set for 3 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Funeral Chapel College Station.

The Rev. Chris Snidow of Parkway Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the College Station Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 8:30 a.m. to the time of services Sunday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Anderson died Friday at Colton Inn Health Care.

She was born in Washington County, Ind., and lived in College Station for 22 years. She was a member of Parkway Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Arvin Anderson.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Swiki and Judy Anderson of College Station; a daughter and son-in-law, Leni and Michael Henke of Alexandria, Va.; a brother, Walter Bell of Salt Lake City; a sister, Emma Lou Oglethorp of Pasadena; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Marjorie G. Brush
Dec. 10, 1920 — Dec. 26, 2002

Graveside services for Marjorie G. Brush, 82, of College Station will be Monday in Downs, Kan.

Arrangements are under the direction of Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan.

Mrs. Brush died Thursday at her home.

She was born in Phillipsburg, Kan., and lived in College Station since 1978. Before her retirement, she was employed by Keiser’s Art Shop for many years. She was a member of the Art Club in Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Merle Brush.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas and Kay Brush of Downs and Garry and Jeanette Boston of Newton, Kan.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Dawn and Jerry Merker of College Station and Sherry Brush of North Tonawanda, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
