Earl ‘Will’ Toliver
Feb. 26, 1949 — Dec. 25, 2002

MARLIN — Services for Earl “Will” Toliver, 53, of Dallas and formerly of Hearne are set for 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Hearne.

The Rev. William Riley will officiate. Burial will be in Greater Riverside Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Paul Funeral Home in Marlin.

Mr. Toliver died Wednesday at Methodist Hospital in Dallas.

He was born in Calvert and graduated from W.D. Spigner High School. He was retired after 31 years of employment with the city of Dallas.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel Toliver; a daughter, LaMonica Toliver of Dallas; two sons, Rodney Williams and Cedric Toliver, both of Dallas; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Jewel and Clifford Warren, Billie Stephens and Unice and Sanders Sam, all of Houston, and Lollie and Donald Adams of Hearne; six brothers and three sisters-in-law, James and Cora Toliver of Bryan, Robert and Alice Toliver of Lubbock, Charles Toliver and Wayne and Esther Toliver, all of Hearne, Larry Toliver and Kenneth Toliver, both of Houston; two grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.

Beatrice ‘Bea’ Speckman
April 13, 1939 — Dec. 26, 2002

CALDWELL — Services for Beatrice “Bea” Speckman, 63, of Caldwell are set for 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Caldwell.

The Rev. Dimitrij Colankin will officiate. Burial will be in the Caldwell Masonic Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Caldwell.

A wake service will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Speckman died Thursday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

She was born in Bryan and was a 1958 graduate of Stephen F. Austin High School in Bryan. She attended McKenzie-Baldwin Business School and was co-owner of the Caldwell Printing Company since 1976. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by a son, Matthew Paul Speckman.

Survivors include her husband, John Speckman of Caldwell; two daughters, Frances Speckman and Carolyn Speckman, both of Caldwell; a brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Patricia Scanlin of Bryan; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Jo Ann and Phillip Haas of Bryan and Theresa and Richard Walker of Dickinson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Texas Commission for the Blind, St. Mary’s Catholic Church or Elizabeth Lutheran Church.

Bessie Lou Smith
Aug. 29, 1909 — Dec. 25, 2002

Funeral services for Bessie Lou smith, 93, of Bryan will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.

The Rev. J. Kornegay will officiate. Burial will be in Bryan City Cemetery.

Mrs. Smith died Wednesday at her home.

She was a lifelong resident of Brazos County. She was a retired accountant for Texas A&M University, where she worked for 40 years. She belonged to the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the Evening Study Club of Bryan and First Baptist Church of Bryan, where she was a member and past secretary of the Elizabeth Sunday School Class.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Emmett M. Smith.

She is survived by two brothers, Robert C. Ball and Pat Ball, both of Houston; a sister, Evelyn Snyder of Waco; a sister-in-law, Mildred Ball of Conroe; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial may be made to First Baptist Church of Bryan.

Frank Wayne Sims
April 4, 1929 — Dec. 26, 2002.

AMARILLO — Funeral services for Frank Wayne Sims, 73, of Amarillo are set for 3 p.m. Monday at Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel.

Bob Thomas will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery here.

Mr. Sims died Thursday.

He worked at Panhandle Steel Buildings from 1958 until 1996.

He was preceded in death by a son, Monty, and a granddaughter, Stacy.

He is survived by his wife, Rosetta Sims of Amarillo; three daughters, Gayla Henrickson and Marian Christine Sims, both of Amarillo, and Jeanne Thomlinson of Claude; four sons, Frank Wayne Sims Jr. of Bryan, Bill Sims and Gerard Sims, both of Amarillo, and Galen Sims of Fort Stockton; two sisters, Louise Evers of Fresno, Calif., and Lucille Peoples of Henrietta, Okla.; two brothers, James Sims of Lubbock and John Sims of Shallowater; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Josh H. McCarty
Aug. 26, 1940 — Dec. 27, 2002

CENTERVILLE — Funeral services for Josh H. McCarty, 62, of Centerville are set for 10 a.m. Monday at Walters Funeral Home in Centerville.

The Rev. Anthony Cecil of First United Methodist Church in Centerville will officiate. Burial will be in New Salem Cemetery in rural Leon County.

Visitation will be from noon until 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. McCarty died Friday.

He was born in Russell. He lived in Houston for about 20 years, where he worked as a service technician for Natkins Service Co. and was a member of Pipefitters Local No. 211.

Mr. McCarty moved to Centerville in 1980 and opened his own air conditioning and heating company, Cen-Tex Air. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Centerville and served in the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Shelley McCarty.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria McCarty of Centerville; a daughter, Debbie Mutschler of Centerville; a sister and brother-in-law, Mae and Doc Wooley of Centerville; two grandchildren; and a great grandchild.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Centerville First United Methodist Church or the Centerville Volunteer Fire Department.

Flora Bess McVoy Ellis
Dec. 3, 1925 — Dec. 28, 2002

ROCKDALE — Funeral services for Flora Bess McVoy Ellis, 77, of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Monday at Forest Grove Christian Church near Rockdale.

The Rev. Charles Salmon will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

Mrs. Ellis died Saturday at St. Joseph Manor in Bryan.

She was born in Tanglewood and was employed by the Harris County Department of Education in Houston and Cirrus Production Oil Co. in Giddings before retiring. She lived in the Forest Grove community for 25 years before moving to Bryan four years ago,

She was a member of Forest Grove Christian Church and the Order of Eastern Star No. 996 in Lexington.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Thomas Ellis, and a stepson, Sidney Thomas Ellis.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Vaughn and Denise Jensen of Rockdale; two daughters and a son-in-law, Connie Jensen and James Britton of Houston and Betty Norene Jensen of Rockdale; a sister, Greta Moore of Kerrville; four grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Forest Grove Christian Church of Forest Grove Cemetery.

Clyde Shiring
Aug. 6, 1918 — Dec. 24, 2002

ROCKDALE — Funeral services for Clyde Shiring, 84, of Rockdale are set for 1 p.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rockdale.

The Rev. Robert Herald will officiate. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 8 a.m. until the time of services Monday at Philips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

Mr. Shiring died Tuesday at Manor Oaks Nursing Home.

He was born in Pittsburgh and lived for 29 years in Rockdale. He was an engineer and purchasing agent for Alcoa.

Mr. Shiring was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and served in U.S. Navy during World War II. He belonged to St. Joseph Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary Shiring.

He is survived by two sons, David Shiring of Dallas and Bob Shiring of Houston; two daughters, Joan Shiring and Nancy Shiring, both of Austin; and four grandchildren.
