Maria de los Angeles Schroeder
June 25, 1917 — Nov. 14, 2002

Vestavia Hills, Ala. — Graveside services for Maria de los Angeles Schroeder, 85, of Vestavia Hills are set for 2 p.m. Friday at College Station Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan.

Mrs. Schroeder died Nov. 14 at her home.

She was born in Mexico and was a research scientist. She graduated from the University of Minnesota, where she earned a degree in plant pathology, and was employed by Texas A&M University.

She was a former resident of College Station and while living there was a member of Central Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry W. Schroeder Sr.

Survivors include a son, Harry Schroeder Jr. of Vestavia Hills, Ala.; a daughter, Christine L. Matyear of Austin; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Vickie M. Jones
Feb. 9, 1969 — Nov. 24, 2002

Services for Vickie M. Jones, 33, of Bryan are set for 3 p.m. Friday at Callaway-Jones Chapel in Bryan.

The Rev. Danny Davis of United Freewill Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Wellborn Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Friday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Jones died Sunday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

She was born in Dyersburg, Tenn., and lived in Bryan since 1997. She attended Teague High School.

Survivors include her husband, Darrell Jones of Bryan; three stepsons and a daughter-in-law, Johnny and Christine Jones, Aaron Jones and Darrell Jones Jr., all of Bryan; a daughter, Taylor Paige Jones; a stepdaughter and son-in-law, Susan and James Rodriguez of Bryan; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Michael and Sandy McNew and Tommy and Terri McNew, all of Missouri, and Ricky and Vickie McNew of Texas; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Sharon McNamara, Peggy and Tracy Snipes, Debbie and Michael Haney and Lisa and Tommy Ross, all of Missouri; her parents, Leon and Dorothy McNew of Missouri; a mother-in-law, Ruby Leathers of Bryan; two grandchildren; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Ann McMurry Hardaway
May 29, 1948 — Nov. 24, 2002

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. — Visitation for Ann McMurry Hardaway, 54, of Stone Mountain will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan.

Graveside services will follow at College Station Cemetery. The Rev. Dean Wilhelm of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church will officiate.

Mrs. Hardaway died Sunday in Georgia.

She was born in Brazos County and was a teacher. She graduated from A&M Consolidated High School and was a 1970 graduate of Texas A&M University, where she earned a degree in elementary education.

Survivors include her husband, Rex D. Hardaway of Stone Mountain; a son, Tim Hardaway of Boca Raton, Fla.; a daughter, Melissa Yeager of Atlanta; two sisters, Dorothy Fos and Margaret Griffith, both of College Station; her mother, Carolyn D. McMurry of College Station; and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 235 Peachtree Center Ave., Atlanta, Ga. 30303.

Bessie Lee Hawkins
May 10, 1914 — Nov. 21, 2002

HOUSTON — Services for Bessie Lee Hawkins, 88, of Houston are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Integrated Church, 4910 Martin Luther King Blvd. in Houston.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at McCoy and Harrison Funeral Home Chapel in Houston.

Mrs. Hawkins died Thursday.

She was born in Brazos County and lived in Bryan until 1946, when she moved to Houston.

She was preceded in death by her husband, O.D. Hawkins.

Survivors include a daughter, Ora B. Hawkins of Houston; four sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffery and Ora Lee Bailey of Bryan, Jessie “Billy” and Verna Marie Hawkins, O.D. Hawkins Jr. and his wife, Verna, and Carl and Dina Hawkins, all of Houston; a brother, Peter Goosby of Dallas; eight sisters, Pauline Moore of Oakland, Calif., Myrtle Elaine Gibbs of Los Angeles, Laura Webster of Milford, Mass., Flo Workman and Marsha Anderson of Bryan, and Daisy Goosby, Brenda Zackery and Catherine Thomas, all of Houston; and a host of grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Annie Elizabeth Hlavaty
Oct. 8, 1913 — Nov. 25, 2002

CALDWELL — Services for Annie Elizabeth Hlavaty, 89, of Caldwell are set for 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Frenstat.

The Rev. Dimitrij Colankin will officiate. Burial will be in the Shillerville Cemetery in Victoria.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell. A rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the church.

Mrs. Hlavaty died Monday in Caldwell.

She was a lifelong resident of Caldwell and was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Al Hlavaty.

Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law, A.R. “Tony” and Nelda Hlavaty of Ganado, Andrew and Jean Hlavaty of Pearland, Martin and Leigh Hlavaty of Incline Village, Nev., Daniel Hlavaty and Cheryl Dunn of Sugar Land; three daughters and sons-in-law, Dorothy and Floyd R. Woods of Caldwell, Lucy and Thomas Hodges of Pearland and Delphine and Richard Shrum of Sugar Land; a daughter-in-law, Joan Virginia and her husband, Marvin Saunders, of Edna; three brothers, Andy and Richard Pivonka, both of Caldwell, and Thomas Pivonka of Pineland; four sisters, Agnes Janacek of Hutto, Rosalie Haisler of Bryan, Doris Fuller of Cushing and Lela Pivonka of Caldwell; 15 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shillerville Cemetery Maintenane Fund, in care of Joyce Lesakar, P.O. Box 3271, Victoria, Texas 77903.

Brandon Fails

Brandon Fails, 18, left the field of life having won the game of his life through his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, November 25, 2002 in College Station, Texas. A Celebration of Life will be at 3:00 pm Saturday, in the Sanctuary of the First Baptist Church, Euless, 1000 West Airport Freeway. Dr. Claude Thomas, Gracious Host. Dr. Rick Rigsby and Coach R.C. Slocum of Texas A&M University, Eulogist. The Reverend Bo Chancey, Young Life Ministries of Highland Meadow Christian Church will officiate. Burial will be at Grapvine Cemetery. Friends may visit Brandon while he lies in solemn slumber at the funeral home from 9:00 to 2:00 pm on Friday.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the Highland Meadow Christian Church, 2600 Hall Johnson Road, Colleyville, Texas. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 pm at the Church. The casket will be carried from the Church Sanctuary by his fellow teammates from the Texas A&M “Aggie” Football Team. Brandon will be carried from the Spencer Horse Drawn Hearse to the Grave by his fellow teammates of Colleyville Heritage “Panther” Football Team. He was born May 7, 1984 in Grapevine, Texas and attended Colleyville’s Heritage High School graduating in 2002 where he was a star football player. He was in his freshman year at Texas A&M University and was a member of the football program. Brandon attended Highland Meadows Christian Church where he was a part of the Young Life Ministry. Those left to cherish his final touchdown: parents, Charles and Valerie Fails; brother, Jodfrey Fails; grandmother, Clarice McGrue, and a host of other relatives, friends and teammates.

Ida Ruth Harris
May 2, 1940 — Nov. 25, 2002

Services for Ida Ruth Harris, 62, of Bryan are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in Bryan.

Ray C. Lang of the Church of The Living Dod will officiate. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Jones-Washington Mortuary in Bryan.

Mrs. Harris died Monday at her home. She was born in Burleson County and was a lifelong resident of Bryan. She attended Lincoln High School and was a member of the Church of the Living God.

Survivors include her husband, Odie Harris Sr. of Bryan; a son, the Rev. Odie Harris Jr. of Desoto; four daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon Diane and Rathers Norwood of Austin, Gwendolyn Ann and Clifford Martin of Bryan, Barbara Jean and Helree Robinson Searcy Jr. of College Station, and Shanta Yvette and Lonnie Goosby Jr. of Bryan; a sister and brother-in-law, Doris Jean and Velmont Jones of Austin; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

JoAnn Kubelka Murski
Sept. 18, 1932 — Nov. 27, 2002

BRENHAM — Services for JoAnn Kubelka Murski, 70, of Brenham are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brenham.

The Rev. Richard Tijerina and Monsignor Ralph Brennan will officiate. Burial will be in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Brenham.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham.

Mrs. Murski died Wednesday in Brenham.

She was born in Hungerford. She was a retired builder and developer.

She was preceded in death by her husband , Bernard Murski.

Survivors include three sons and a daughter-in-law, Sam Murski of Brenham, David Murski of Florence and Paul and Angela Murski of Georgetown; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Rosanne and Rick Nichols of Pflugerville, Karen Murski of Brenham and Eileen and Wayne Hajovsky of New Mexico; a brother and two sisters-in-law, John Karl and Evelyn Kubelka of Houston and Julia Belski of Houston; and 12 grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brenham.

E.L. ‘Doc’ Farrell
Oct. 10, 1923 — Nov. 27, 2002

ATHENS — Services for E.L. “Doc” Farrell, 79, of Athens are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home. The Rev. Calvin Springer of Rockdale Full Gospel, Minister James Wilson and Minister Dan Wilson will officiate.

Mr. Farrell died Wedneday.

Born in Appleby, he was a shift supervisor with Alcoa in Rockdale and a member of Rockdale Christian Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jolene Farrell.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-inn-law, Dudley E. and Patty Farrell of Mount Pleasant, Dwayne A. and JoAnn Farrell of Fairfield and, David J. and Betty Farrell of Athens; two brothers, Oscar W. Farrell of Magnolia and Cory Farrell of Nacogdoches; a sister, Ruby Covington of Nacogdoches; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
