Buna Alene Taylor

Oct. 30, 1910 — April 11, 2002

FRANKLIN — Graveside services for Buna Alene Taylor, 91, of Houston are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Henry Prairie Cemetery in Robertson County.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at McCauley Funeral Home in Franklin.

Mrs. Taylor died Thursday in Houston.

She was born in the Henry Prairie community of Robertson County and was a resident of Houston most of her life. She was a homemaker and was a Baptist.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Taylor; and her children, William Taylor, Janet Dancer, Robert Taylor and Don Taylor.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Dolores and Clyde Cantrell of Houston and Rose and David Price of Bellville; three sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond and Paula Taylor of Bryan, Roy and Helen Taylor of Onalaska, Texas, and Jimmy and Linda Taylor of Austin; three sisters, Ruby Mae Fulton of Waller, Texas, and Lavell Morrow and Hazel Wymola, both of Franklin; a brother, Dewey Morgan of Franklin; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Ernest Dean Vallance

Feb. 24, 1964 — April 10, 2002

NAVASOTA — Services for Ernest Dean Vallance, 38, of Navasota are set for 2 p.m. Monday at Nobles Funeral Chapel in Navasota.

The Rev. David Kline of the First Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mr. Vallance died Wednesday in Houston.

He was born in San Antonio and was self-employed as a diesel mechanic. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Catherine Elizabeth Vallance and Brittney Morgan Vallance, both of Pearland, Texas; two brothers, David Vallance of Oklahoma City and Wesley Vallance of Bethy, Okla.; a sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Robert Castro of Navasota; his parents, Tim and Christine Vallance of Bay Bank, Texas; and numerous aunts, uncles and other relatives.

David Charles Sharp

Sept. 13, 1939 — April 12, 2002

CALDWELL — Graveside services for David Charles Sharp, 62, of Caldwell are set for 4 p.m. Saturday at Providence Cemetery in the Providence community of Burleson County.

Lon Elkins of the Caldwell Church of Christ will officiate.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell.

Mr. Sharp died Friday in Bryan.

He was born in Springfield, Ill., and was a longtime resident of Caldwell. He was self employed and served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the Caldwell Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Elsie L. Sharp of Caldwell; a son, Mike Carlson; two stepsons, David Dyess and Donnie Dyess; a daughter, Pamela Jones; a stepdaughter, Brenda D. Sheffield; two brothers, William C. Sharp and Stephen G. Sharp; a sister, Diane Schulte; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to a charity of choice.

Henry M. Harris Jr.

Sept. 7, 1937 — April 12, 2002

Services for Henry M. Harris Jr., 64, of Somerville are set for 2 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.

The Rev. Cahill Brendan will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 8 a.m. to the time of the services Sunday at the funeral home.

Mr. Harris died Friday in the College Station Medical Center.

He was born in San Antonio and lived in Somerville most of his life. He was a master electrician and was the owner and operator of H&H Electric. He was a member of the Somerville Volunteer Fire Department and served as past president of both the Bryan Bass Club and Bryan Little League. He served in the U.S. Army and was a Catholic.

Survivors include his wife, Francelle Harris of Somerville; three daughters and sons-in-law, Dee and John Casserly of Richmond, Texas, Kay and Pat Victory of Fulshear, Texas, and Jan and Patrick Lunberg of Seattle; two sisters, Beatrice Langford of Houston and Lu Hensarling of Bryan; a brother-in-law, Charlie Haas of Nacogdoches; five grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary Ellen Cain

Dec. 27, 1944 — April 12, 2002

CALDWELL — Services for Mary Ellen Cain, 57, of Caldwell are set for 10 a.m. Monday at the Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Caldwell.

The Rev. Rick Mitchell will officiate. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery in Rockdale.

Mrs. Cain died Friday at her home.

She was born in Taylor, Texas, and was a Baptist. She was a longtime employee of Cat’s Pit Stop in Caldwell.

Survivors include her husband, George Cain of Caldwell; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sissy and Fermin Sanchez of Caldwell and Sheryl Kirby of Scranton, S.C.; a son, George Allen “Skeebo” Cain of Scranton; a sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Marvin McCaslin of Austin; six grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Brazos Valley, 205 East 29th Street, Bryan, Texas 77803.

Michael G. Fowler

Oct. 21, 1937 — April 12, 2002

NAVASOTA — Services for Michael G. Fowler, 64, of Anderson are set for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Plantersville.

The Rev. Edward C. Kucera Jr. of St. Mary’s Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at the church.

A vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Nobles Funeral Chapel in Navasota.

Mr. Fowler died Friday at his home.

He was born in Tulsa, Okla., and lived in Anderson for 15 years. He retired from the FAA in 1978 and served in the U.S. Navy from 1954-58. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Georgia M. Fowler of Anderson; a son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Donna Fowler of Humble, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and John Hooper of Nacogdoches; a brother, Mark Fowler of Monument, Colo.; a sister and brother-in-law, Janice and Gary Horton of Wagner, Okla.; and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Brazos Valley or St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

John Warren ‘Swede’ Johnson

Jan. 29, 1917 — April 12, 2002

Services for John Warren “Swede” Johnson, 85, of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Monday at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.

The Rev. Tim Owens of the First Baptist Church of Bryan will officiate. Burial will be in Bryan City Cemetery.

Mr. Johnson died Friday at his home.

He was born in Cambridge, Ill., and was a member of the First Baptist Church. He received a bachelor’s degree from Bradley University in Illinois, a master’s degree from Texas A&M University and a Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee. He was a retired research chemist in the field of thermodynamics. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater.

Survivors include his wife, Priscilla Johnson of Bryan; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Patricia Johnson of Columbia, Mo.; and a grandchild.

Memorials may be made to a church or charity of choice.

Doris Elaine Owen

March 1, 1968 — April 13, 2002

NORMANGEE — Services for Doris Elaine Owen, 34, of Normangee are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the United Pentecostal Church in Normangee.

The Rev. Charles Kyle of the Victory Temple Church of Baytown will officiate. Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at Cozart Funeral Home in Normangee.

Miss Owen died Saturday in St. Luke Hospital in Houston.

She was born in Pasadena, Texas, and was a member of Victory Temple Church.

Survivors include a brother, Douglas Owen of Houston; three stepbrothers and a sister-in-law, Harold Parker Jr., Robert Parker and Michael and Patrice Adkins; three stepsisters, Marilyn Edge, Pam Shields and Joy Allen; her parents, Mary and Pete Parker of Normangee and Ray and Brenda Owen of Houston; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
