John Paul Magness

Feb. 21, 1923 — April 21, 2002

BEDIAS — Services for John Paul Magness, 79, of Iola are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Southern Heritage Funeral Chapel in Bedias.

The Rev. Clyde Copeland will officiate. Burial will be in the Bedias Baptist Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. to the time of the services at the funeral home.

Mr. Magness died Sunday at his home.

He was born in North Zulch and was a retired switchman for the railroad. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and was an aircraft mechanic. He was a member of the American Legion Post 146 in Iola. In 1953 he was a member of the Magness Quartet performing n Houston with his father, sister and brother.

Survivors include his wife, Frankie Magness of Iola; a son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Sherriee Magness of Iola; a daughter, Kay Nichols of Bryan; a sister, Allie Lyles of Tomball; and two grandchildren.

Deslay Wilma Miller

Feb. 16, 1905 — April 20, 2002

FRANKLIN — Services for Deslay Wilma Miller, 97, of Franklin are set for 2 p.m. Monday at the McCauley Funeral Home Chapel in Franklin.

Bobby Sullivan and Brett Farmer of Franklin will officiate. Burial will be in the Holly Cemetery in Ridge.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to the time of the services Monday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Miller died Saturday in Franklin.

She was born in Robertson County and was a homemaker and a member of the Franklin Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, C.P. “Jack” Miller; and a son, Carlton L. Miller.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Marie and Bob McLendon of Highlands, Texas; three sons and four daughters-in-law, James and Lois Miller of College Station, Wayne and Doris Miller of Three Rivers, Texas, Robert and Patsy Miller of Livingston and Dot Miller of Corpus Christi; a sister, Pauline Tullous of Ridge; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; and two nieces.

Winston Earl Trostle Jr.

May 14, 1928 — April 19, 2002

MADISONVILLE — Memorial services for Winston Earl Trostle Jr., 73, of Leona are set for 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Elwood United Methodist Church in Midway.

The Rev. Dick Crosson will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Madisonville Funeral Home.

Mr. Trostle died Friday at his home.

He was born in Wheeler County, Texas, and lived in Leona three years. He formerly resided in Houston and worked as an all lines insurance adjuster. He was a member of the Elwood United Methodist Church and served in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife, Loretta Trostle of Leona; his step-mother, Inez Trostle of Amarillo; two daughters, Lorie Rhodes and Trina Christianson, both of Washington state; two step-daughters and a son-in-law, Donna Howard and Suzette and Peter Rosser; a brother, Joe Dean Trostle of Houston; and five step-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Elwood United Methodist Church, 18927 FM 1119, Midway, Texas 75852.

Lloyd Franklin Walker

March 7, 1927 — April 20, 2002

MADISONVILLE — Services for Lloyd Franklin Walker, 75, of Iola are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at the J.M. Day Funeral Home in Madisonville.

The Rev. Billy Adkisson will officiate. Burial will be in the Enon Cemetery in Grimes County.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Walker died Saturday at the Texas State Veteran’s Home in Temple.

He was born in Iola and was a member of the Evergreen Freewill Baptist Church in Keith. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and later owned and operated the Security Lock Service. He served as a deputy sheriff in Harris County.

He was preceded in death by a son, Lloyd Franklin Walker II.

Survivors include his wife, Paula Walker of Iola; a son, Robert Walker of Iola; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Yolanda and Ernesto Valencia of Pinehurst; and a grandson.

Jonathan Cade Adams

Jonathan Cade Adams 22 died Saturday April 6, 2002 in Minden, Louisiana from injuries sustained in an airplane crash.

Jonathan was born in Bryan, Texas October 9, 1979.

His father Cade Adams was a military science professor at Texas A&M, as well as director of the Student Information Management System.

The family were active members of First Baptist Church of Bryan.

The family moved to his mom's hometown in Washington State in 1985.

Jonathan graduated from Skyview High School in Vancouver, Washington in 1998. Jonathan was a very active participant in the music programs, student government and church activities during his years in Vancouver. As a teen he served for three years as an instructor at the Oregon Space Flight Academy. Jonathan had the reputation of a guy who makes things happen. His long-term goal was to become a missionary pilot with Mission Aviation Fellowship.

Jonathan was a senior at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, Louisiana. He was riding as a passenger in a vintage single-engine T-34B naval training aircraft. Jonathan was a pilot with advanced certification and a passion for aviation. Jonathan was the owner operator of the municipal airport in Homer, Louisiana and the Manager of the municipal airport in Minden, Louisiana.

Jonathan will always be missed by his parents Cade and Jan Adams, his brother Justin Adams who currently reside at 12205 NW 10th Avenue Vancouver, WA 98685.

His enthusiastic zest for life which was both contagious and compelling will also be treasured by so many he had befriended both in the North Louisiana area and in his hometown of Vancouver.

Memorial services were held in Ruston, Louisiana on Tuesday April 9th at Temple Baptist Church Chapel and also Saturday April 13th in Vancouver, Washington at New Heights Church.

Henry Willie Bresler
May 31, 1914 — April 20, 2002

BURTON — Services for Henry Willie Bresler, 88, of Brenham and formerly of Carmine are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Carmine.

The Rev. Paul Bohot will officiate. Burial will be in the Carmine Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Foehner Funeral Home in Burton.

Mr. Bresler died Saturday in Brenham.

He was born in the Sandtown community of Washington County and was a retired maintenance worker for the City of Carmine. He was a member of Martin Luther Lutheran Church.

Survivors include a brother, Louis Bresler of Brenham.

Memorials may be made to Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Carmine or the American Cancer Society.

Carl Merl Gough
Sept. 16, 1924 — April 20, 2002

ABILENE, Texas — Services for Carl Merl Gough, 77, of Abilene are set for 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home in Abilene.
The Revs. Dewey Hall and Colleen Anderson will officiate. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Lazbuddie Cemetery near Muleshoe, Texas.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Gough died Saturday at an Abilene medical center.

He was born near Muleshoe and formerly lived in Bryan. He served as a fighter pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and received a Distinguished Unit Badge, an Air Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, a Soldiers’ Medal and an EAME Theater ribbon with three bronze stars. He was a member of the Breakfast Optimist Club of Abilene and was a Christian.

Survivors include his wife, Janette Gough of Abilene; five sons, Carl Gough Jr. of Granbury, Texas, Allen Gough of St. Louis, Mo., Timothy Blaisdell of Woodinville, Wash., Raymond Blaisdell and Billy Blaisdell, both of Rock Springs, Wyo.; five daughters, Carlyn Mojewski of Austin, Donna Gough of Ada, Okla., Glenna Bizeau of Green River, Wyo., Carole Brenton of Caldwell, Idaho, Terri Barrett of Las Vegas, Nev.; a sister, Gay Chrisman of Ruidosa, N.M.; 23 grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.

Memorials may be made to Gideons International, P.O. Box 2882, Abilene, 79604.

Preston Lemarce Griffin
Aug. 29, 1924 — April 18, 2002

Services for Preston Lemarce Griffin, 77, of Madisonville are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wilson Chapel United Methodist Church in Madisonville.

The Rev. Carey Cauley Jr. of Wilson Chapel United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in West End Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Peoples Mortuary in Bryan.

Mr. Griffin died Thursday in Madisonville.

He was a lifelong resident of Madisonville and was retired. He served in the military during World War II and was a member of Wilson Chapel United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a brother, L.T. Griffin of Madisonville; a niece; and two aunts.
