Cecile Marie Calhoun

Feb. 17, 1943 — April 21, 2002

Graveside services for Cecile Marie Calhoun, 59, of Bryan and formerly of Normangee are set for 1 p.m. Saturday at Turner Cemetery in Flynn.

Bobby Madkins will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Cozart Funeral Home in Normangee.

Mrs. Calhoun died Sunday in Bryan.

She was a lifetime resident of Leon County. She was a housewife and member of Mount Zion in Leona.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilmer Clahoun.

Survivors include a son, Larry D. Jackson of Bryan; a daughter, Wendy Jackson of Bryan; a brother, H.B. Collins of Houston; a sister, Katheryne Polk of Leona; and four grandchuildren.

John M. Young

March 20, 1930 — April 23, 2002

HEARNE — Services for John M. Young, 72, of Hearne are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at the Community of Christ Church in Hearne. Burial will be in the Norwood Cemetery.

Don Hay will officiate.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Memorial Funeral Home in Hearne.

Mr. Young died Tuesday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan.

He was born in San Benito, Texas, and was an agricultural aviator.

Survivors include his wife, Mae Beth Young of Hearne; three sons and two daughters-in-law, John and Linda Young of McAllen, George and Lily Young of Houston and Steve Bishop of Windchester, Mass.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sheran and Don Hay of Hearne, LuVon and Del Wood of Universal City, Fla., and Debbie and Randy Werner of Hearne; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Clydel and Bill Hardegree of Victoria and Dee Black of Royal, Ark; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Foundation.

James Marcus Yorke

March 12, 1919 — April 23, 2002

Memorial services for James Marcus Yorke, 83, of Bryan are set for 1 p.m. Saturday at 16565 Calumet Trail in College Station.

The Rev. Kathleen Ellis will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Santana Funeral Home in Houston.

Mr. Yorke died Tuesday in Houston.

He was born in Fayetteville, N.C. He graduated from Mebane High School in North Carolina in 1936 and attended Elon College in Elon, N.C., before serving in the U.S. Navy from 1941-1945. Mr. Yorke was an electrical engineer and retired from Houston Light and Power in Houston. He moved to Brazos County in 1984.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Dawn Disney Yorke of Bryan; two daughters and sons-in-law, Gloria and John Puhl of Port Angeles, Wash., and Kathryn Yorke-Sneed and Loyd Sneed of College Station; a son and daughter-in-law, James Marcus III and Twiley Blanchard Yorke of Vinton, La.; a sister, Yvonne Yorke Motteler of Sanford, N.C.; four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Memorials may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Associaton, Myasthenia Gravis Division, P.O. Box 78342, Phoenix, Ariz. 85062 or to the charity of one’s choice.

Ella Mae Schultz

Nov. 9, 1921 — April 24, 2002

Services for Ella Mae Schultz, 80, of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Monsignor John McCaffrey will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan. A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Schultz died Wednesday at Memorial Hermann Fort Bend Hospital.

She was born in North Zulch and lived in Bryan most of her life. She was a homemaker. In 1939, after finishing business college, she worked as secretary at the Texas A&M School of Veterinary Medicine. In 1941 she began working in the U.S. Department of Agriculture cotton testing laboratory at Texas A&M. Mrs. Schultz was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Frank Schultz of Bryan; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Barbara and Phil Ines of Chapel Hill, N.C., Sandra Mendez of Houston and Mary Lynn and Mike Kalousek of The Woodlands; two brothers, Olan Boswell of Madisonville and William Boswell of San Antonio; two sisters, Louise Mosley of North Zulch and Ethel Lampe of San Antonio; nine grandchildren; and two great-randchildren.

Memorials may be made to the St. Joseph School Trust Fund or Mount Calvary Cemetery Fund.

Maurine Raney

Feb. 28, 1909 — April 25, 2002

Services for Maurine Raney, 93, of Bryan are set for 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Bryan.

Dr. Tim Owens and the Rev. Bob Richers will officiate. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. in the Madisonville City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to the time of services Friday at the church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.

Mrs. Raney died Thursday.

She was born in Grimes County and lived in Bryan for 42 years. Mrs. Raney was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Bryan, a past president of the A&M Mothers Club, a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Order of the Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Nathan Raney.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, John N. and Elizabeth Raney of Bryan and James E. and Sandra Raney of Nacogdoches; two daughters and sons-in-law, Theda and Curtis L. Flournoy of Houston and Eileen and John J. Thrash of Hurst; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Brazos Valley or a church of choice.

Bessie Leon Ferguson

Jan. 4, 1913 — April 25, 2002

LIVINGSTON — Services for Bessie Leon Ferguson, 89, of Livingston and formerly of Madisonville are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Madisonville Funeral Home.

The Rev. Jerald Brown will officiate. Burial will be in the Allphin Cemetery near Midway.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to the time of services Saturday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Ferguson died Thursday in Livingston.

She was born in Madison County and was a homemaker.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, M.H. and Barbara Ferguson of Romayor.

Ross Dayton Helton

Jan. 20, 1923 — April 25, 2002

Graveside services for Ross Dayton Helton, 79, of College Station are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at the College Station City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station.

Mr. Helton died Thursday at Oakland Manor in Giddings.

He was born in Grace, Ky. He lived in College Station for six years. He retired from Southern Pacific Railroad as a diesel locomotive electrician. Mr. Helton served in the Marines during World War II and was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Althene Helton of College Station; a brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Dorthy Helton of Florida; and two brothers-in-law, Charles Farley of College Station and Don Farley of Harlingen.

Florida Smith Johnson

March 16, 1944 — April 21, 2002

HUNTSVILLE — Services for Florida Smith Johnson, 58, of Huntsville are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at the Unity of Faith Church.

The Rev. Obie Rolling Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in the Todd Robinson Cemetery in Point Blank.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Williams and Sons Funeral Home in Huntsville.

Mrs. Johnson died Sunday.

She was born in Point Blank.

Survivors include her mother, Lizzie Smith of Point Blank; two daughters, Linda Wilson and Inanna Smith of Huntsville; three sisters, Helen Tucker of Huntsville, Nancy Stubblefield of Trinity and Rose Perry of Missouri City; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; and a host of other relatives.
