William Leonard ‘Bill’ Evans Sr.

May 15, 1909 — April 27, 2002

HEARNE — Services for William Leonard “Bill” Evans Sr., 92, of the Elliott community are set for 2 p.m. Monday at the Elliott Baptist Church.

Dale Wells will officiate. Burial will be in the Elliott Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Funeral Home in Hearne.

Mr. Evans died Saturday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

He was born in the Elliott community.

Survivors include his wife, Clara Bell Evans; a son, William Leonard Evans Jr.; a daughter, Brenda Ann Evans Barnett; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Lois Irene Henry

Sept. 19, 1919 — April 27, 2002

NORMANGEE — Services for Lois Irene Henry, 82, of Normangee are set for 2 p.m. Monday at the First United Pentecostal Church in Normangee.

Brother Sam Manning of the First United Pentecostal Church will officiate. Burial will be in Wealthy Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Cozart Funeral Home in Normangee.

Mrs. Henry died Saturday in Orange, Texas.

She was born in the Canary community of Madison County and was a longtime resident of Normangee. She was a homemaker and was a Pentecostal.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dearl Henry, and a son.

Survivors include two sons, Buddy Henry and Barrett Henry, both of Normangee; four daughters and sons-in-law, Reba and Gary Garner of Bryan, Joyce and Kenneth Rives of Corpus Christi, Evie and Earl Stone of Houston and Patricia and Lytle Noey of Normangee; a brother, Melton Currie of Houston; two sisters, Bernice Stroud and Melba Burr, both of Houston; 18 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Elnora Johnson

March 9, 1909 — April 23, 2002

Services for Elnora Johnson, 93, of Bryan are set for 1 p.m. Monday at Peaceful Rest Baptist Church in Bryan.

The Rev. C.E. Jefferson of Peaceful Rest Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Wheelock Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday and from 8 to 11 a.m. Monday at Daniel & Son Funeral Home in Bryan and from noon to the time of the services Monday at the church.

Mrs. Johnson died Tuesday in Colton Inn Health Center.

She was born in Caldwell and lived in Bryan for 15 years. She was a homemaker and a member of Peaceful Rest Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Johnson.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Helen Marie and Hicks Walker of Bryan; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Lillie P. Simmons

May 17, 1925 — April 26, 2002

LA GRANGE, Texas — Services for Lillie P. Simmons, 76, of La Grange and formerly of Seymour, Texas, are set for 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church in La Grange.

The Rev. Randy Ford will officiate. Burial will be in the La Grange City Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home in La Grange.

Mrs. Simmons died Friday in an Austin hospital.

She was born in Seymour and lived in La Grange since 1968. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in La Grange and the Order of the Eastern Star. She worked several years for General Telephone Company.

Survivors include her husband, J.B. “Bob” Simmons of La Grange; two daughters and sons-in-law, Dorothy and Doug Richter and Vicki and Jose Ramirez, all of La Grange; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Margie Simmons of Dripping Springs, Texas, Rick and Barbara Simmons of College Station and Mike and Lois Simmons of Bryan; a sister, Dorothy Rowena Johnson of Cooper, Texas; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

John ‘Jack’ Hubacek

Dec. 27, 1909 — April 28, 2002

Services for John “Jack” Hubacek, 92, of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Bryan.

The Revs. Blake Brinegar and Philip McLarty of the First Presbyterian Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Bryan City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hillier Funeral Home and from 9 a.m. to the time of the services Tuesday at the church.

Mr. Hubacek died Sunday.

He was born in West, Texas, and was a lifelong resident of Bryan. He was a retired auto mechanic and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Ester Pecena Hubacek of Bryan; three sons and two daughters-in-law, John Jr. and Clara Hubacek of Beaumont, Texas, Michael Hubacek of Houston and Thomas and Dorothy Hubacek of Mesquite, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Wanda Hubacek of Houston; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Hugh Harrington of Fort Worth; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Joe Hubacek of Houston and Bill and Kathleen Holik of Marble Falls, Texas; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Joe Nemec of Bryan and Francis and Kirby Krause of Austin; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Upper Crust of First Presbyterian Church.

Florene Bynum

Jan. 17, 1919 — April 27, 2002

Services for Florene Bynum, 83, of College Station are set for 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Texas Avenue Baptist Church in College Station.

The Rev. Eric Douchet of the Texas Avenue Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday and from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.

Mrs. Bynum died Saturday in Colton Inn.

She was born in Brazos County and was a lifelong resident of College Station. She was a charter member of the Texas Avenue Baptist Church. She graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School and attended the Bryan Academy of Cosmetology. She was the owner and operator of the Town and Country Beauty Shop for 30 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Bynum Sr.; infant son, Douglas Bynum; and infant daughter, Marjorie Bynum.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Chester Jr. and Linda Bynum and Henry D. and Sherri Bynum, all of Bryan; a brother, Dale Cuthbertson of Bryan; a brother-in-law, Howard Spradling of Pasadena, Texas; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Douglas Warren Pingrey

June 27, 1922 — April 28, 2002

MADISONVILLE — Services for Douglas Warren Pingrey, 79, of Bryan and formerly of Madisonville are set for 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church in Madisonville.

The Rev. Dick White will officiate. Burial will be in the Willowhole Cemetery in North Zulch.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Madisonville Funeral Home.

Mr. Pingrey died Sunday at his home.

He was born in Hurley, S.D., and lived in Bryan since 1996. He attended Yankton College on a football scholarship before enlisting in the U.S. Navy, where he served for 22 years. He retired from the U.S. Navy in 1963 as a master chief with a rating of E9. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Madisonville and later at the First National Bank of Madisonville. He retired from the bank in 1984 as a vice president.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Madisonville, the Madisonville Masonic Lodge No. 740 A.F.&A.M., the American Legion and the Madisonville Sidewalk Cattlemen’s Association.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Aline Pingrey; and a son, Don Warren Pingrey.

Survivors include his wife, Stella Brown Pingrey of Bryan; a daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Ron Anderson of Deer Park, Texas; two stepsons, Jack Lee Brown Jr. and Audie Richard Brown, both of Bryan; a sister-in-law, Norma Johnson of Madisonville; and fourteen nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Madisonville Masonic Lodge No. 740 A.F.&A.M., P.O. Box 1321, Madisonville, Texas 77864 or to Hospice Brazos Valley, 205 E. 29th Street, Bryan, Texas 77803.

Verney Edgar Flanagan

Dec. 7, 1913 — April 28, 2002

HEARNE — Graveside services for Verney Edgar Flanagan, 88, of Calvert are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Sunnyside Cemetery in Calvert.

The Rev. Jeff Riley of the First Baptist Church of Calvert will officiate.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Heartfield Funeral Home in Hearne.

Mrs. Flanagan died Sunday in Manor Oaks Nursing Home in Rockdale.

She was born in the Little Mississippi community near Calvert and was a longtime resident of Calvert. She was a homemaker and was a member of the First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, R.C. Flanagan.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ben and Faye Flanagan of Calvert; a daughter and son-in-law, Janis and Alvin Wilganowski of Rockdale; a brother, Bill Owen of China Spring, Texas; a sister, Gertrude Bradford of Waco; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Euell (Verda) Flanagan of Hearne; and four grandchildren.

Raymond Garcia Valadez

Oct. 10, 1945 — April 27, 2002

Services for Raymond Garcia Valadez, 56, of Carrollton, Texas, and formerly of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.

The Rev. T.A. Garza of Higher Dimensions in Christ Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Bryan City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Valadez died Saturday at his home.

He was born in Bryan and was employed by Office Depot as assistant manager in the Carrollton store. He was a Catholic.

Survivors include his wife, Rosalinda Valadez of Carrollton; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Andrew and Tina Valadez of Houston and Alex Garza of Carrollton; four daughters and a son-in-law, Joanne Flores of Denver, Christina Valadez of Austin, Melissa and Joe Flores and Erika Martinez, all of Carrollton; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Agapito and Lydia Valadez of Bryan, Victor “Lucky” Valadez of Alvarado, Texas, Robert and Sophie Valadez of Round Rock, Texas, and Roy and Nina Valadez of Garland, Texas; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Rachel and Adolph Flores and Ruth and Moses Alvarez, all of Bryan; his mother, Arcadia Garcia Valadez of College Station; and five grandchildren.
