Mary Jane Cherry Hardwick

Nov. 27, 1905 — March 18, 2002

ROCKDALE — Graveside services for Mary Jane Cherry Hardwick, 96, of Martindale, Texas, are set for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Early Chapel Cemetery near Lexington.

Arrangements are under the direction of Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

Mrs. Hardwick died Monday at her home.

She was born in Lee County and lived in Martindale for four years. She was a retired secretary.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Ross Hardwick; and a son, Robert Earl Hardwick.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Joe and Dorothy Hardwick of Martindale and Bert Hardwick of Orange, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Louise and J.R. Johnston of Leesburg, Fla.; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert H. and Helen Cherry of Fischer, Texas; a sister, Lucy Ball of Johnson City, Texas; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hope Hospice of New Braunfels, 611 North Walnut Ave., New Braunfels, Texas 78130, 1-830-625-7525.

Luther Hensarling Jr.

March 9, 1913 — March 18, 2002

MADISONVILLE — Services for Luther Hensarling Jr., 89, of Madisonville are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Madisonville.

The Revs. J.W.L. Adams and Jeff Witcher will officiate. Burial will be in Madisonville City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Madisonville Funeral Home.

Mr. Hensarling died Monday in Madison St. Joseph Health Center.

He was born in Madisonville and lived most of his life in the Madisonville area. He was the former owner of Hensarling Food Store in Huntsville and was a member of the First Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Hensarling.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, W.R. and Kay Hensarling of Madisonville; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Albert E. ‘Shine’ Niebuhr

June 19, 1906 — March 18, 2002

BRENHAM — Services for Albert E. “Shine” Niebuhr, 95, of Brenham are set for 11 a.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in Brenham.

The Revs. Wesley Wellborn and Fred Trevino will officiate. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham.

Mr. Niebuhr died Monday in Brenham.

He was born in Brenham and graduated from Brenham schools and Blinn College. He was retired as vice president of Farmers National Bank in Brenham. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, where he served on the trustee and administrative boards, served as treasurer of the building committee and was a member of the Wesley Sunday school class. He was a member of the Maifest Association, Senior Little League of Washington County, Lions Club, Jaycees and was a charter member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosella Milling Niebuhr.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Floyd Sommer of Brenham; a son and daughter-in-law, James and Mary Lois Niebuhr of La Marque, Texas; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a nephew.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church in Brenham, or to a charity of choice.

Suzanne Deeslie Pierce

Nov. 4, 1924 — March 16, 2002

NAVASOTA — Services for Suzanne Deeslie Pierce, 77, of Navasota are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Christ Our Light Catholic Church in Navasota.

The Rev. Paul G. Felix of Christ Our Light Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Lindley-Robertson-Holt Funeral Home in Navasota.

A parish rosary will be recited and a vigil service will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Pierce died Saturday in the College Station Medical Center.

She was born in Newark, Ohio, and lived in Navasota for 30 years. She was a retired interior decorator/buyer and was a member of Christ Our Light Catholic Church. She was a founding volunteer with the Navasota Food Bank, now the Christian Community Center.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert William Deeslie and G. Shaeffer Pierce.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Michael and Mary Deeslie of Newark, Thomas Allen Deeslie of Houston and Peggy Deeslie of Navasota; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Susan Jane Deeslie and Ann Louise and Wil Schroeder, all of Houston, and Peggy M. and Ernie Arrington of Anderson; a brother, Thomas Gainor of Cincinnati; a sister, Peggy Richmond of Jacksonville, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Charles Wayne ‘Chuck’ Tidrow

Aug. 12, 1955 — March 14, 2002

RUSK — Services for Charles Wayne “Chuck” Tidrow, 46, of Bryan took place at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Rusk, Texas.

The Revs. Frank Prater and Johnny Emerson officiated. Burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Tidrow died Thursday in a San Antonio hospital.

He was born in Rusk and lived in Bryan for 10 years. He was a truck driver and was a Baptist.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Mary Tidrow and Jesse Jimenez of Charlotte, Texas; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Jaye Conice and Dennis McKamie and Jodye Tidrow, all of Hearne, and Jennifer and Arthur Vivero of San Antonio; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Jim Tidrow and Randy Con and Vickie Tidrow, all of Bryan, and Kenneth and Jean Ann Tidrow of Fairfield, Texas; a sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Alfred Harris of Rusk; two stepbrothers, Jessie and Joe; two stepsisters, Rosemary and Leticia; and five grandchildren.

Marcelino Vargas

Jan. 16, 1909 — March 17, 2002

CAMERON — Services for Marcelino Vargas, 93, of Cameron are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Cameron.

The Rev. Tom Hanus will officiate. Burial will be in Hernandez Cemetery.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Cameron with Deacon Juan Garza officiating.

Mr. Vargas died Sunday at his home.

He was born in Manor, Texas, and served in the United States Armed Forces. He was a member of St. Monica’s Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Vargas.

Survivors include three sons, Daniel Vargas and Fernando Vargas, both of Cameron, and Robert Vargas of Temple; four daughters, Oralia Montez, Elida Puentes and Jesusa Martinez, all of Cameron, and Martha Lopez of Oak King, Okla.; 38 grandchildren; 86 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

Agnes Venable

April 1, 1914 — March 17, 2002

MADISONVILLE — Services for Agnes Venable, 87, of Madisonville are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at J.M. Day Funeral Home in Madisonville.

The Rev. Dean Ferguson will officiate. Burial will be in High Prairie Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Venable died Sunday in College Station.

She was born in Leon County and was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Madisonville. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Alvin Venable.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Eugene Davee of Bryan and Janelle and Fred Benson of Kingsville, Texas; a son, Billy Don Venable of Houston; a sister, Beatrice Snow of Conroe; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Norma Jacob Weinert

June 28, 1911 — March 16, 2002

BRENHAM — Services for Norma Jacob Weinert, 90, of Carmine are set for 1 p.m. Wednesday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Round Top.

The Revs. John David Nedbalek and Arnon Lundborg will officiate. Burial will be in Richter Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham and viewing will be from 9 a.m. to the time of services Wednesday at the church.

Mrs. Weinert died Saturday in Brenham.

She was born in Round Top and was retired as owner of Weinert’s Garage. She attended Quade School and was a member of the Carmine Chamber of Commerce and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Brenham. She was a lifelong member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and was a 50-year member of Women of the Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert L. Weinert; and a son, Charles H. Weinert.

Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Maxine Weinert of Spring, Texas; two sisters, Hildegard Pietz of Houston and Rita Markwardt of New Braunfels; two sisters-in-law, Laverna Jacob of Brenham and Nora Braun of Round Top; two grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Round Top or to a charity of choice.
