Erline Celia Kessler-Watson

On a cold winters day, December 25, 1925, Erline Celia Kessler was born. Her name, Erline, came by way of taking her fathers name, Ervin, & her mothers name Madeline & adding them “together”. Hence, Er-line. Her parents were of pure German descent & their parents, (maternal), Frederick Christian Kupfernagle & Louisa Anna Schroder ~ (paternal),came directly from Germany. As things in Germany had gotten pretty bad, they immigrated over shortly before the Holocaust began. On the “maternal”" side, her grandmother, Louisa, hid in a pickle barrel as she had no monies to pay the fare to America & her grandfather, Frederick, was in the Merchant Marines, came over from Johannesburg & when arriving in the America’s, he “jumped ship”. (at least these were the stories we were told & we “heard” growing up).

Aunt Erline met her 1st true love Douglas Norman Capps & as the Korean War was coming to an end, (he was still in active service in the US Airforce), with her “mama” in tow & at the age of 20 she went to marry him in Florida. Two years later, she had her 1st & only son, Dennis Norman Capps. She was married to Douglas for 25 years, they divorced & 2 years later, in 1972, she remarried to Bela Watson. In Sept,1985 she lost her only son to cancer & in Jan,2005 she lost Bela to a lung disease. She continued on living in Onalaska,(Livingston) Texas until the summer of 2009 & at the age of 84 she moved to Santa Fe, Texas to be by her only niece & her family. Regretfully, in April 2010, she was diagnosed with a terminal cancer but JOYFULLY she also accepted Christ as her Savoir. And, today, because of that decision, we celebrate her “Home” going on February 4, 2011.

Visitation will be from 5:00pm-8:00pm Monday, February 7th, and the Funeral Service will be at 11:00am Tuesday, February 8th, both held at Niday Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Rosewood Cemetery in Humble.

Berta Starustka

Berta Starustka, at the age of 84, went home to be with her Lord on January 28, 2011, after a courageous battle with COPD, dementia, and other various ailments. Berta is preceded in death by her brothers Sebastian, George, and sister Hilde and survived by her sisters Klara, Agnes and her son Eugene Starustka and wife Regina.

Berta was born on August 21, 1926 near Wurzburg, Germany. She married Army SFC Robert Starustka whom she met in Germany after the war on Oct 28, 1952 moved to New York for a number of years and eventually moved to Texas where she was a member of Blessed Sacrament parish until 1970. After a brief period with St. Francis Cabrini parish she was part of the original family members that formed St Luke’s Parish. Over the years, she enjoyed helping out at the church in whatever ways needed, if it be washing the church linen to vacuuming the interior of the church. She would also take great satisfaction in visiting the sick parishioners at various nursing homes in the area. Hard work came naturally to her possibly due to her upbringing working and living on a farm as she was growing up in Germany and she enjoyed helping others and her family whenever they needed assistance. For this we always will be grateful.

The family would like to thank the doctors and medical staff at S.E. Memorial Hospital in Houston and St. Johns Hospital in Clear Lake for their compassionate care given to Berta during the numerous times she was hospitalized. A special thanks goes out for all the caregivers ( Carol, Clodi, Sandra B., Rita) and a very special neighbor that lived next door for approximately 40 years, Sandra Waldrop, for their many weeks, months, and years of sacrifice, patience, tolerance and love given to my mom in trying to make her latter years as pleasant as possible. This effort by these individuals will always be remembered and greatly appreciated by the family.

Visitation will be held from 6:00pm to 8:00pm Monday, January 31st, at Niday Funeral Home, where a Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2:30pm Tuesday, February 1st, at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church with Father Thomas officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Park East in Webster.

We love You, We will miss You, We thank you for everything you have done for us. May You rest in Peace, You are going HOME!
