Larry Lee Burleson

March 13, 1918 — Feb. 18, 2002

Graveside services for Larry Lee Burleson, 83, of Bryan are set for 2 p.m. Friday at Mart Cemetery in Mart, Texas. The Rev. W.H. “Bill” Smith will officiate.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.

Mr. Burleson died Monday at Bryton Inn Health Center in College Station.

He was born in Streetman, Texas, and had lived in Bryan since 1951. He served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during World War II in the Pacific Theater and worked for the Texas Agriculture Extension Service, retiring in 1974.

After graduating from Mart High School, Mr. Burleson earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Texas A&M University. He was a deacon at First Baptist Church and a member of the Farm Bureau, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Brazos County Senior Citizens and Still Creek Ranch and participated in Meals on Wheels.

His active retirement included real estate brokerage and ranching.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Punchard Burleson of Bryan; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry Lee and Sandra Burleson of Centennial, Colo., a daughter and son-in-law, Melinda Ann and John Lee Box of Bryan; two brothers; and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the charity of choice.

Helmuth R. Pachall

Jan. 7, 1920 — Feb. 19, 2002

Services for Helmuth R. Pachall, 82, of Bryan and formerly of Normangee are set for 2 p.m. Friday at the Mauro Garcia Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas. The Rev. Clifford Locke of the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Alice, Texas, will officiate. Burial will be in the San Diego Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Madisonville Funeral Home and from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Mauro Garcia Funeral Home.

Mr. Pachall died Tuesday.

He was born in Madison County and lived most of his life in South Texas, in San Diego and in Big Springs for a short time. He lived in Normangee with his daughter for the past four years before moving to Bryan.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Dorsey and Arch Wiese of Normangee; and three grandchildren.

Minnie May Bishop Hancock

May 13, 1903 — Feb. 19, 2002

FRIENDSWOOD — Services for Minnie May Bishop Hancock, 98, of Friendswood, Texas, are set for 11 a.m. Friday at the McCauley Funeral Home Chapel in Franklin. Burial will be in the Elliott Cemetery in the Elliott community in Robertson County.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hancock died Tuesday in Friendswood.

She was born in the community of Bishopville in Robertson County and lived in Franklin before moving to Friendswood a year and a half ago.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Monroe Hancock.

Survivors include three daughters, Opal Green and Eddie Ruth Barnett of Franklin and Annette Nichols of Friendswood; three sons, James Hancock of Carrollton, Texas, and Leslie Hancock and Wayne Hancock, both of the Elliott community; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Laverne Wooley
March 29, 1916 - Feb. 19, 2002

JEWETT — Services for Laverne Wooley, 85, of Jewett are set for 2 p.m. Friday at the Walters Funeral Home Chapel in Centerville. The Revs. Larry Ashley of the First Baptist Church in Centerville and James Eagle of the First Baptist Church in Jewett will officiate. Burial will be in the Pankey Cemetery in Grimes County.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.Thursday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. and from 8 a.m. to the time of services Friday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Wooley died Tuesday in Madisonville.

She was born in Iola and had been a resident of Leon County for 20 years. She worked in the Houston shipyard during World War II, the laundry department at St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan and the American Laundry in Bryan. Mrs. Wooley was a member of First Baptist Church and was a choir member.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Jean Isbell of Jewett; a sister, Marie Erkila of Houston; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Ernest M. ‘Ernie’ Wilburn
Sept. 9, 1923 - Feb. 19, 2002

CENTERVILLE — Services for Ernest M. “Ernie” Wilburn, 78, of Centerville are set for 11 a.m. Friday at the Walters Funeral Home Chapel in Centerville. Bro. Ed Houk, chaplain of the Centerville Healthcare Center will officiate. The Rev. Wayne McNeill will assist. Burial will be in the Centerville Cemetery with a masonic graveside service.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m..
Mr. Wilburn died Tuesday at the Centerville Healthcare Center.

He was born in Central Park, Texas, and graduated from Pasadena High School. Mr. Wilburn fought in the Pacific as a U.S. Marine during World War II. He was an area site manager for Becthel Corp. and helped build the famous Alaskan Pipeline. He built oil refineries and pipelines all over the United States. He and his wife moved to Centerville in 1972. He was a Mason and received the lifetime membership honor at the Centerville Lodge #1291 A.F. and A.M. He was also a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, “Jo” Wilburn of Centerville; a daughter, JoAnn Stanford of Centerville; a son and daughter-in-law, Ernest M. Wilburn Jr. and Evelyn Wilburn of New Caney, Texas; a brother, S.J. Wilburn of Pasadena, Texas; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mildred and Mickey Spencer of Houston and Maurine and Oliver Gibson of Harrison, Ark.; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Richard James Dabney
July 1, 1943 - Feb. 16, 2002

NAVASOTA — Services for Richard James Dabney, 58, of Navasota are set for 2 p.m. Friday at Ruby’s Chapel at Jones-Washington Mortuary in Bryan. The Rev. Fred G. Ford of New Zion Missionary Baptist Church will officiate.
Burial will be in the Grandview Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. Dabney died Saturday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

He was born in Ballinger, Texas, and resided in Navasota for the past four months. He attended Ballinger High School and New Mexico State College.

Survivors include two sons, James Dabney of Georgia and Shelby Dabney of San Angelo; four daughters, Marian Dabney, Sonya Dabney, Carmala Dabney and Joyce Dabney, all of Los Angeles, Calif.; a brother, Robert S. Dabney of Bryan; a sister, Mary Ann Markham of Los Angeles; 16 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Raymond Culton
April 19, 1906 - Feb. 18, 2002

NORMANGEE — Services for Raymond Culton, 95, of Normangee are set for 11 a.m. Friday at Cozart Funeral Chapel in Normangee. The Rev. Sam Manning of First United Penecostal Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Randolph Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. Culton died Monday in Madisonville.

He was born in Leon County and was a farmer. Mr. Culton was a lifelong resident of Leon County and was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Culton of Normangee; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Ray and Pearl Culton of Houston, Billy and Yvonne Culton and Tommy Culton, all of Liberty, Texas, and Ernesto and Maria Culton of Houston; two daughters and a son-in-law, Peggy and Harold Burnett and Erma Thomas, all of Houston; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Louis Wisnoski
Dec. 10, 1930 - Feb. 19, 2002

NAVASOTA — Services for Louis Wisnoski, 71, of Navasota are set for 10 a.m. Thursday at Christ Our Light Catholic Church in Navasota. The Rev. Paul G. Felix will officiate. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to the time of services at the church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Lindley-Roberson-Holt Funeral Home in Navasota.

Mr. Wisnoski died Tuesday at College Station Medical Center.

He was born in Stoneham, Texas, and was a lifetime resident of Navasota. He worked for F.H. Maloney Co. He was a member of the Christ Our Light Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Florence Wisnoski of Navasota; three sons and daughters-in-law, Roy and Mari Kay Wisnoski of Navasota, Robert and Rebecca Wisnoski and Johnny and Haven Wisnoski, all of White Hall, Texas; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Frank Rosenquist of Navasota and Patricia and Wayne Brooks of Franklin; three sisters, Ann Wetuski, Viola Kowis and Mary Orlando, all of Houston; and 11 grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Christ Our Light Catholic Church Building Fund, 510 Manley, Navasota, 77868.

Mary Miller Lawson
Nov. 26, 1918 - Feb. 19, 2002

EAST BERNARD — Services for Mary Miller Lawson, 83, of East Bernard, Texas, and formerly of Navasota are set for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church of East Bernard. The Rev. Michael Holcombe will officiate.
Graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Oakland Cemetery in Navasota.

Mrs. Lawson died Tuesday at Gulf Coast Medical Center.

She was born in Gilmer, Texas, and lived in East Bernard for the past 23 years. She was a certified drug abuse counselor for Orchid Creek Hospital. She graduated from Navasota High School and the University of Houston and attended a chemical dependency counselors course.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar D. Lawson.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Katheryn and James Cervenka of East Bernard; a sister, Patsy Ruth Rider of Wharton, Texas; a sister-in-law, Margie Miller of Navasota; and two grandchildren.

David Borski
Aug. 5, 1936 - Feb. 19, 2002

MILLICAN — Graveside services for David Borski, 65, of Millican are set for 10 a.m. Friday at Wheat Cemetery in Millican. Deacon Pete Sechelski of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church of Anderson will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Nobles Funeral Chapel in Navasota.

Mr. Borski died Tuesday at his home.

He was born in Roans Prairie and was a heavy equipment operator in the road construction business and a member of the St. Stanislaus Catholic Church.

Survivors include a brother, Leonard Borski of Millican; and five sisters and three brothers-in-law, Barbara Wilkerson of Millican, Margaret and Gerald Branscom of Hempstead, Beatrice and Pete Montalbano of Bryan, Chris Taylor of Austin and Hattie and Robert Walker of Millican.

Marvin O. White
April 10, 1942 - Feb. 19, 2002

NAVASOTA — Services for Marvin O. White, 59, of Navasota are set for 10:30 a.m. Friday at Nobles Funeral Chapel in Navasota. The Revs. Glenn Murphy of First United Pentecostal Church in Navasota and Henry Sanders of Faith Outreach Christian Center in Navasota will officiate. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Full military honors will be provided by the U.S. Army from Ft. Hood.

Mr. White died Tuesday at Grimes St. Joseph Health Center.

He was born in Tipton, Ind. He retired from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice as a commissary manager and was retired from the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife, Frances White of Navasota; a son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Ericka White of Brenham; two daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela and Joe Read of Navasota and Julie and Jim Vannoy of Kirkwood, Mo.; a sister and brother-in-law, Orpha and Tom Scolley of Merrill, Wisc.; a stepsister, Karen Hackerd of Frankford, Ind.; and seven grandchildren.

Edna Bertha Franke

Sept. 12, 1916 — Feb. 20, 2002

BRENHAM — Services for Edna Bertha Franke, 85, of Brenham are set for 2 p.m. Friday at St. John Lutheran Church in Prairie Hill.

The Rev. Jon Siemsglusz will officiate. Burial will be in the Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham.

She died Wednesday in Brenham.

She was Born in the the Prairie Hill community of Washington County. She attended Prairie Hill School and Brenham High School. Mrs. She was a retired homemaker and member of St. John Lutheran Church in Prairie Hill.

Survivors include numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Memorials may be made to the St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund.
