Harvey Proctor

June 25, 1918 — Feb. 17, 2002

CENTERVILLE — Services for Harvey Proctor, 83, of Centerville are set for noon Saturday at Wilson Chapel near Centerville.

C.D. Evans will officiate. Burial will be in the Spiller Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Walters Funeral Home in Centerville.

Mr. Proctor died Sunday in the Madison St. Joseph Hospital.

He was a lifelong resident of Leon County and worked as a ranch hand all of his life. He was a member of Cairo Baptist Church and served on its deacon board for many years.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Maggie Proctor of Centerville; and many other relatives.

Lewis “Pepper” McMillian

Dec. 25, 1928 — Feb. 15, 2002

NAVASOTA — Services for Lewis “Pepper” McMillian, 73, of Navasota are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Navasota.

The Rev. James Lee will officiate. Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Jones Funeral Home in Navasota.

Mr. McMillian died Friday at his home.

He was was a lifetime resident of Grimes County and graduated from George Washington Carver High School in Navasota. Mr. McMillian was a member of the Community Love Society and the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Survivors inclue three brothers, Edgar McMillian and Roland McMillian, both of Houston, and Cecile McMillian of Navasota; four sisters, Lillie P. Wells, Annie Lundy and Grace Lemons, all of Houston, and Beatrice White of Fort Worth.

Jesse James Lewis

Feb. 20, 1924 — Feb. 19, 2002

Services for Jesse James Lewis, 77, of Bryan are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Castle Heights Baptist Church.

The Rev. T.L. Ross will officiate. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at Peoples Mortuary in Bryan.

Mr. Lewis died Tuesday at Sherwood Health Care.

He was was a lifetime resident of Brazos County. Mr. Lewis attended E.A. Kemp High School and served in the U.S. Navy.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mattie Lewis.

Survivors include a daughter, Shirley M. Ross of Bryan; a brother, Milton Lewis of Houston; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Castle Heights Baptist Church.

Birt Mann

Aug. 20, 1916 — Feb. 17, 2002

WASHINGTON, Texas — Services for Birt Mann, 85, of Washington are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Washington.

The Rev. Emory Davis will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday at Jones Funeral Home in Navasota.

Mr. Mann died Sunday at Grimes St. Joseph Hospital.

He was born in Washington County and attended Washington County schools. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Port Arthur.

Mr. Mann was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Johnson Mann.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Bert Douglas and Patricia Mann, and Timothy Mann; two daughters, Aba Gayle Wiley and Jessica Garrett; a brother, Clarence Mann; two sisters, Lula Mae Gilbert and Tommie Jewel Williams; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Mary Lisa Green

Jan. 28, 1973 — Feb. 18, 2002

Services for Mary Lisa Green, 29, of Bryan are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at United Missionary Baptist Church.

Bishop J.C. Ebbs Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Jones-Washington Mortuary in Bryan.

Miss Green died Monday at her home.

She was born in Bryan.

Survivors include a son, Marc Allen Green-Mitchell of Bryan; a sister, Yolanda Green of Bryan; her mother, Shirley Mitchell of Bryan; and several aunts and uncles.

Margaret Lovell Witcher

Dec. 3, 1911 — Feb. 20, 2002

SOMERVILLE — Services for Margaret Lovell Witcher, 90, of Somerville are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Somerville.

The Rev. Henry Stovall will officiate. Burial will be in the Oaklawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m..

Mrs. Witcher died Wednesday at St. Joseph Regional Health Care Center.

She was born in Swank, Okla. She attended Somerville schools and graduated from Baylor Female College in 1929 and earned degrees from Sam Houston State University and the University of Houston. She taught elementary school for 30 years in the Deer Park, Somerville, Port Arthur, Plainview and Katy school districts. She also taught at Louisiana Baptist College in Pineville, La. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Somerville.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ed Lovell, and her second husband, L.R. “Blackie” Witcher.

Survivors include a son, the Rev. Charles Edward (Bud) Lovell of Duncanville; a sister, Bobbie Cruse of Port Arthur; a brother, the Rev. Carroll Ray of Burleson; a son-in-law, Dewey Humphries of Pineville, La.; two stepdaughters and stepsons-in-law, Bonnie and Clarence McDonald of Brenham and Virginia and Cliff Black of Carriere, Miss.; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Somerville.

Pichegru Woolfolk Jr.

Oct. 8, 1917 — Feb. 20, 2002

Graveside services for Pichegru Woolfolk Jr., 84, of College Station and formerly of Birmingham, Ala., are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta, Ga.

Local arrangements are under the direction of Hillier Funeral Home.

Mr. Woolfolk died Wednesday at College Station Medical Center.

He was born in Baltimore, Md., and graduated from the University of Virginia. He was the owner of Executive Service Coffee Company.

Mr. Woolfolk was a World War II veteran and received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He served in the European campaign with four battle stars.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Morris Woolfolk, and his second wife, Mary Amelia Whitson Woolfolk.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Pichegru III and and Debbie Woolfolk of Raleigh, N.C., and J. Willard and Susan Whitson of Philadelphia; two daughters and a son-in-law, Mary Ellen and Dennis Davenport of College Station and Diane Bonnell of Ninety Six, S.C.; two sisters, Mary Parham Woolfolk Waggener and Bettie Woolfolk Harden, both of Atlanta, Ga.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Ada Stevenson

Feb. 12, 1902 — Feb. 18, 2002

CALDWELL — Services for Ada Stevenson, 100, of Caldwell are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Macedonia Baptist Church.

The Rev. Fred Harrison will officiate. Burial will be in the Roland Cemetery in Caldwell.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Jones Funeral Home in Caldwell.

Mrs. Stevenson died Monday at Burleson St. Joseph Manor Nursing Home.

She was a lifetime resident of Burleson County and a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Stevenson.

Survivors include a sister, Elizabeth Turner of Los Angeles; six grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren.

Herman R. Newton

Jan. 21, 1915 — Feb. 20, 2002

MADISONVILLE — Graveside services for Herman R. Newton, 87, of Madisonville are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Ten Mile Cemetery in Madison County.

The Rev. Ross Newton will officiate.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday with the family present at J.M. Day Funeral Home Chapel.

Mr. Newton died Wednesday in Madisonville.

He was born in Normangee. He was a retired police officer, serving in Leon County and in Madisonville, and he was a former chief of police in Madisonville. He was the founder of Herman’s Po’ Boy Trail Riders.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby McNight Newton.

Survivors include a son, Bobby Joe Newton of Madisonville; a daughter, Peggy Lou Newton Tracy of Huntsville; two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Tiara Nicole Mack

Feb. 19, 2002 — Feb. 19, 2002

HEARNE — Graveside services for Tiara Nicole Mack, infant, of Hearne are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at Mumford Cemetery.

The Rev. James E. Crawford of Progressive Missionary Church in Hearne will officiate.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday at Heartfield Funeral Home in Hearne.

Tiara died Tuesday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

She was a Baptist.

Survivors include her parents, John and Britani Mack of Hearne; two sisters, Ariana Mack of Hearne and Briana Edwards of Franklin; her grandparents, John and Sharon Mack and Bruchelle Delley and Patricia Lopez, all of Hearne; and her great-grandparents, Jesse and Janie Lopez of Hearne, John L. Mourning of Desoto, Sydney James Mack of Mumford, Rochelle Delley Sr. of Hearne and Johnnie Delley of Nebraska.
