Dec. 18, 1951 - Dec. 3, 2001

NAVASOTA — Services for Linda Thornton, 49, of Navasota are set for 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Missionary Camp Baptist Church. Rev. James Mable will officiate. Burial will be in the Dennis Bryant Cemetery in Navasota.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Jones Funeral Home in Navasota.

Ms. Thornton died Monday at her residence.

She was born in Navasota and was a homemaker. She was a member of Missionary Camp Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Regginal M. and Sheletha Thornton of Missouri City; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Walter and Lorine Bennett of Houston, Tommie Thornton of Richmond, Jeffery Miller of Huntsville and Jerrell and Yolanda Miller of Dallas; her five sisters and brothers-in-law, Brenda and Herbert Ware of Navasota, Ethel Caldwell of Navasota, Joycelen Miller and Jennifer Miller, both of Missouri City, and Janice and Peter Williams of Houston; her mother, Rosie Caldwell of Navasota; her stepmother, Naomi Mason of Missouri City; and three grandchildren.

Jim McQuary

Jan. 21, 1931 - Dec. 4, 2001

SHARP — Services for Jim McQuary, 70, of Sharp are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Friendship Methodist Church in Davilla. Burial will be in the Friendship Cemetery near Davilla.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

Mr. McQuary died Tuesday in the Veterans Administraion Hospital in Temple.

Born in Milam County, he was a rancher and cattle buyer and member of the Friendship Methodist Church in Davilla.

Survivors include his wife, Sharilyn McQuary of Sharp; his son and daughter-in-law, James S. and Denise McQuary of Sharp; his daughters and son-in-law, LuAnn and David Daniell of Sharp and Tammy Harkins of Sharp; his stepdaughter, Jima Mack of Sharp; his brother and sister-in-law, Sidney and Minnie McQuary of Thorndale; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret Pope of Sharp, Irene Weydell of Rockdale, Dorothy and J.E. Galloway of Beaumont and Lucille and Harlan Hilliard of Sharp; his former wife, Glen McCormick of Buckholts; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Amos P. Veazey

May 20, 1926 - Dec. 6, 2001

WELLBORN — Services for Amos P. Veazey, 75, of Wellborn are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Callaway-Jones Chapel in Bryan. Rev. John Boyle of Wellborn Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Wellborn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Veazey died Thursday at College Station Medical Center. He was born in Forked Island, La. and lived in Wellborn since 1988. He worked for many years at Shell Chemical prior to his retirement. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of Wellborn Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Winnie Veazey of Wellborn; his son, Michael A. Veazey of Wellborn; his daughters and sons-in-law, Ouida D. and Bill Edison of South Houston and Cheri and Charles Lawson of College Station; his brother and sisters-in-law, Thomas and Elsie Wade of Wellborn, Cora Taylor of Houston and Joanne Wade of Wellborn; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Mission Emphasis, c/o Wellborn Baptist Church, 3991 McCullough Rd., Wellborn, 77881.

Langston L. Parrott

Dec. 4, 1940 - Dec. 6, 2001

CALDWELL — Services for Langston Lee Parrott, 61, of Caldwell are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Caldwell. Rev. Steve Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in the Caldwell Masonic Cemetery.

Mr. Parrott died Thursday at his residence in Caldwell.

Born in Cleveland, he was a retired meat cutter, a U.S. Air Force veteran and a member of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Parrott of Caldwell; his two sons, Bennie Naiser and Wayne Naiser, both of Caldwell; four daughters, Sharmaine King, Karen Hickson and Denise Phile, all of Caldwell, and Serena Tinker of El Campo; his brother, James Vawter of El Campo; and ten grandchildren.

Al Vernon Jackson

June 2, 1963 - Dec. 3, 2001

CLAY — Services for Al Vernon Jackson, 38, of Clay are set for 1 p.m. Saturday at Macedonia A.M.E. Church in Clay. Rev. Stephanie Heard will officiate.

Arrangments are under the direction of Taft Harris Funeral Home in Brenham.

Mr. Jackson died Monday.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Jackson of Clay, five daughters, four sons, two sisters, three brothers, five grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

John Dodd

Dec. 24, 1926 — Dec. 7, 2001

ROCKDALE — Graveside services for John Dodd, 74, of Milano are set for 3 p.m. Sunday at the Sandy Grove Cemetery near Milano.

The Rev. Calvin Springer of the Rockdale Full Gospel Church will officiate.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

Mr. Dodd died Friday in the Scott & White Hospital in Temple.

He was born in Milam County and was a lifelong resident of Milano. He was a retired furnace operator for Alcoa in Rockdale and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline Dodd of Milano; a son and daughter-in-law, Gregg and Jennifer Dodd of Milano; a brother and sister-in-law, Woody and Carrie Dodd of Rockdale; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Lois Dodd of Rockdale and Kathryn and Jack Mason of Azle, Texas; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Matthews S. Rubenstein

May 29, 1915 — Dec. 7, 2001

BRENHAM — Services for Matthews S. Rubenstein, 86, of Brenham are set for 1 p.m. Sunday at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Brenham.

The Rev. Cecilia Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham.

Mr. Rubenstein died Friday in Trinity Medical Center.

He was born in New Orleans and was retired from General Dynamics as a logistics engineer. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Graham Lodge 20 A.F. & A.M., Arabia Shrine Temple, Brenham Shrine Club, Sons of Hermann, VFW, and Friends of the Animal Shelter. He was a longtime member of Texas Lion’s Club, past president of the Scottish Shrine and was in the Washington County and Independence Historical Society.

He was preceded in death by a son, David Rubenstein.

Survivors include his wife, Adella Rubenstein of Brenham; a daughter, Cheryl Jenkines of Lake Charles, La.; and two grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church or to a charity of choice.

Simon Ruiz

Feb. 28, 1929 — Dec. 6, 2001

HEARNE — Services for Simon Ruiz, 72, of Hearne are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hearne.

The Rev. Scott Mikkelson of St. Mary’s Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in St. Jose Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Heartfield Funeral Home in Hearne.

Mr. Ruiz died Thursday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

He was a lifelong resident of Hearne and was a retired truck driver for Sparkle Ice Co. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Christine Ruiz of Hearne; a son, Jose Carlos Ruiz of Hearne; six brothers and sisters-in-law, Julian and Clara Ruiz and Emmett and Anita Ruiz, all of Dallas, Fred and Naomi Ruiz and Andrew and Alice Ruiz, all of Waco, George and Josephine Ruiz and Margarito and Eva Ruiz, all of Hearne; and a sister-in-law, Frances Ruiz of Hearne.

Sylvester Joseph Seliner

Dec. 6, 1926 — Dec. 4, 2001

NAVASOTA — Graveside services for Sylvester Joseph Seliner, 74, of Iola are set for 2 p.m. Sunday at the Evergreen Cemetery in Keith, Texas.

Arrangements are under the direction of Lindley-Robertson-Holt Funeral Home in Navasota.

Mr. Seliner died Tuesday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

He was born in Houston and lived in Iola three months. He formerly lived in Baytown and was a retired yacht captain. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the Pentecostal Church.

He was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Sylvester Seliner.

Survivors include his wife, Karen H. Seliner of Iola; two sons, Jonathon Sylvester Seliner of Seabrook, Texas, and Patrick Eugen Seliner of San Antonio; four daughters, Judith Ann Seliner of Illinois, Kari Kay Leenkochert of Seabrook and Deborah Evon Seliner and Jacklon Sue Mayfield, both of Iola; a sister, Celeste Beaham of Galveston; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Lucille Walker

April 8, 1914 — Dec. 6, 2001

Services for Lucille Walker, 87, of Bryan are set for 2 p.m. Sunday at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.

The Rev. David Green of Wesley United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Peach Creek Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 11 a.m. to the time of the services Sunday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Walker died Thursday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

She was born in Brazos County and was a lifelong resident of Bryan. She was a retired homemaker and was a Baptist.

She was preceded in death by her husband, W.E. “Dutch” Walker.

Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Lee and Charlotte Walker of Normangee and Larry and Margie Walker and Joe Walker, all of Bryan; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Albert and Varnell Sims of Segoville, Texas, and J.T. and Myrtis Sims and Earnest and Adle Sims, all of Bryan; two sisters, Edna Fazzino of College Station and Ola Mae Spears of Port Aransas, Texas; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Henry C. Waring

Jan. 13, 1923 — Nov. 24, 2001

HOUSTON — Memorial services for Dr. Henry C. Waring, 78, of Houston were held Nov. 29 at the First United Methodist Church in Pasadena.

Dr. Waring died Nov. 24 at his home.

He was a lifelong resident of Houston and was a retired veterinarian. He graduated from the Texas A&M University School of Veterinary Medicine and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Pasadena.

Survivors include his wife, Pat Waring of Houston; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Mike and Carolyn Waring of Vicksburg, Miss., and Steve Waring of Houston; two daughters and sons-in-law, Marianne and Ray James of College Station and Liz and Bill Gray of Cypress, Texas; and nine grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Amos P. Veazey

May 20, 1926 — Dec. 6, 2001

Services for Amos P. Veazey, 75, of Wellborn are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at the Callaway-Jones Chapel in Bryan.

Mr. Veazey died Thursday in the College Station Medical Center.

He was born in Forked Island, La., and lived in Wellborn since 1988. He worked for Shell Chemical for many years prior to his retirement. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the Wellborn Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Seyegh.

Survivors include his wife, Winnie Veazey of Wellborn; a son, Michael A. Veazey of Webster; two daughters and sons-in-law, Ouida D. and Bill Edison of South Houston and Cheri and Charles Lawson of College Station; a sister, Paula Wyatt of Orange; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Thomas and Elsie Wade of Wellborn; three sisters-in-law, Cora Taylor of Houston, Joann Wade of Wellborn and Alma Veazey of Kurten; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
