FORT WORTH -- Sylvester H. Clark, 68, a machinist, died Friday, May 2, 1997, at a Haltom City nursing home.

Graveside service: 10 a.m. Monday at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park, Colleyville.

Sylvester H. Clark was born June 30, 1928, in Perry, Okla., where he was raised. He served in the Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict. After being discharged in 1954, he made his home in California and Kansas, returning to Fort Worth in the early '80s.

Survivors: Sister and brother-in-law, Alethea and U.L. Smith of Haltom City; and several nieces and nephews.

Helen Ruth Conner
BLUE MOUND -- Helen Ruth Conner, 75, a homemaker, died Thursday, May 1, 1997, at her home.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Saturday at Water of Life Pentecostal Church, 3514 Weber. Burial: Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation: at Memorial Funeral Home.

Helen Ruth Conner was born Feb. 14, 1922, in Dallas. She had resided in Fort Worth for 60 years.

Mrs. Connor was preceded in death by her husband, Elmo Connor, in 1996.

Survivors: Son, Clifford Tooley of Saginaw; daughter, Jo Ann Tallant of Blue Mound; stepson, Wayne Conner of Joshua; stepdaughter, Emily Allen of Breckenridge; brother, D.B. Stepp of Houston; sisters, Fern Hodges and Donnie Mullins, both of Fort Worth; brother- in-law and sister-in-law, O.L. and Dorothy Crouch of Granbury; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Murray Phillip Cook
GRANBURY -- Murray Phillip Cook, 73, a retired Navy lieutenant commander, died Friday, May 2, 1997, at a Granbury hospital.

Funeral: 10 a.m. Monday at Martin's Funeral Home in Granbury. Burial: 2 p.m. Monday at Indian Creek Cemetery in Brown County. Visitation: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Murray Cook was born July 10, 1923, in Breckenridge. He lived in the Acton area of Granbury, and had also lived in Longview. He retired from the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant commander in 1985. He was also a retired claims adjuster for an insurance company.

Survivors: Son, Phillip Cook of Longview; daughters, Katherine Ann Falk of Longview and Melinda Riedweg of Kerrville; brothers, Hampton Cook of Fort Worth and Rayford Cook of Granbury; and four grandchildren.

L.O. Davis
WHITE SETTLEMENT -- L.O. "Jake" Davis, 77, a cement finisher and rancher, died Friday, May 2, 1997, in Fort Worth.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Monday at Emerald Hills Funeral Home. Burial: Emerald Hills Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

L.O. Davis was born Oct. 5, 1919, in Mills County. He was a member of Cement Masons Union 549. He had been a resident of White Settlement since 1955.

Survivors: Wife, Thena Beth Davis of Fort Worth; sons, J.B. Davis of Fort Worth and Charles Ray Davis of Phoenix, Ariz.; sister, Christene Hall of Lyford; eight grandchildren; and five great- grandchildren.

Lloyd W. Falls
GAINESVILLE, Ga., -- Lloyd W. Falls, 85, a resident of Gainesville, Ga., died Wednesday, April 16, 1997, in Gainesville, Ga., following a brief illness.

Graveside service: Was in April at Brewer & Wiley Funeral Home, Gainesville, Ga. Burial: Alta Vista Cemetery, Gainesville, Ga.

Lloyd Falls was born Sept. 1, 1911, in Roxton. Mr. Falls learned the printing trade in Paris, Texas, and in 1936 he moved to Fort Worth, where he was employed as a linotype operator until approximately 1952. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as an Infantry Commander in New Guinea.

Mr. Falls was a Sunday School teacher at the First Baptist Church, where the late J. Frank Norris was pastor.

Survivors: Brother, Roy Falls; sisters, Marie Box and Velma Martin, both of Fort Worth; and two nieces and two nephews.

FORT WORTH -- Newton "Uncle Newt" Goforth, 65, a retired truck driver, died Friday, May 2, 1997, at a Fort Worth hospital.

Mr. Goforth was born July 20, 1931, in Kensing.

Frances Hogg
BURLESON -- Frances Hogg, 59, a homemaker, died Saturday, May 3, 1997, in Burleson.

Funeral: 11 a.m. Monday at Emerald Hills Funeral Home. Burial: Emerald Hills Memorial Park. Visitation: 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Frances Hogg was born Nov. 21, 1937, in Poteau, Okla. She was a member of Highland Church of Christ. She was a loving mother and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ray and Peggy Peck.

Survivors: Son, Arthur Worbington of Balch Springs; daughters, Marsha Wooten and Carolyn Hunter, both of Burleson; sister, Charlene Sewell of Burleson; seven grandchildren and one great- grandchild.

Lillian Harris Hughes
DALLAS -- Lillian Harris Hughes, 91, an executive secretary who retired from Mrs. Baird's Bakery after 50 years, died Saturday, May 3, 1997, at a nursing home.

Funeral: 10 a.m. Tuesday at Shannon TCU Funeral Home. Burial: 1 p.m. Tuesday at Knights of Pythias Cemetery, Garland. Dr. William Longsworth of the Fort Worth First United Methodist Church will officiate.

Memorials: Charity of choice.

Lillian Hughes was born April 26, 1906, in Garland. Mrs. Hughes had worked for Mrs. Baird's Bakery since 1925. She was promoted to head bookkeeper in 1928. She attended business school and studied secretarial subjects. In 1966, Mrs. Hughes was elected assistant secretary of the coperation of Mrs. Baird's Bakery. She held the longest service record with the company, with the exception of Mr. Baird.

Her hobbies were golf, bridge, dancing, swimming and photography. She was a past president of the Business and Professional Women's Club of Fort Worth, the Altrusa Club, Glen Garden Women's Golf Association, the Tanglefoot Dancer's Club and the Colony Country Club Golf Association.

Survivors: Brother, Thomas Harris of Victoria; sisters, Lora Bailey of Fort Worth and Laura Townsend of Dallas; and 100 nieces and nephews.

La Velle Brinson Jenkins
COMANCHE -- La Velle Brinson Jenkins, 89, retired motel owner of Comanche Motor Inn, died Friday, May 2, 1997, at a De Leon care center.

Funeral: 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Comanche Funeral Home. Burial: Oakwood Cemetery, Comanche.

La Velle Jenkins was born March 16, 1908, in Comanche County. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Comanche. She owned the Comanche Motor Inn 10 years.

Survivors: Great nephew, Kyle Rackley of Bryan; great-niece, Tami Bonner of San Angelo; sister-in-law, Avis Brinson of De Leon; and nephews, C.A. Brinson of Taylor, Anthony Brinson of De Leon and Jeff Brinson of Comanche.
