Nezbeth LaFlora Cox Knox
HASLET -- Nezbeth LaFlora Cox Knox, 66, a retired Licensed Vocational Nurse, died Saturday, May 3, 1997, at home.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Sunday in the Justin Church of Christ. Burial: Justin Cemetery. Ministers of Gospel Mike Vanderberg, Roy Deaver and Don Simpson will officiate.

Pallbearers: Dwayne Hicks, Dalton Miller, Ernest Bee Webb, Jesse McGilvary, Mike Tidwell and Doyle Green. Honorary pallbearer is Grady Stone.

Nezbeth Knox was born Oct. 22, 1930, in Stephenville to Wayne and DeLora M. Cox, and was a lifetime member of the Church of Christ. Her parents were graduates of John Tarleton Agricultural College and her father graduated from Texas A&M University in 1931. The family moved to Alvord where Mr. Cox taught Vocational Agriculture until 1941 when they moved to Justin. He continued to teach Vo-Ag and later served as principal and superintendent of Justin High School.

In Justin, LaFlora worshipped and went to school with Gary Knox, son of L.F. and Ella Dee Knox. They married in Weatherford, Texas, on March 22, 1947, at the ages of 16 and 18. (They said it wouldn't last.) They celebrated their 50th anniversary this March with many, many friends and relatives in attendance. To this union was born a son and daughter and later, they adopted one son.

LaFlora and Gary moved to Haslet in 1949 where they reared their children. Gary farmed the land at what is now known as the Alliance Corridor, Nestles' and Fossil Creek. LaFlora, being the daughter of two teachers, was a lover of learning; she was a lifetime student.

She earned her beautician's license in 1953. She became a License Vocational Nurse in May 1966, and returned to school and graduated from the John Peter Smith School of Nursing in May 1972. She worked in the nursing profession for many years at Decatur Community Hospital. She later worked as a nursing instructor and in her retirement years worked in Nursing Homes and in Home Health Care.

"Granny" loved her flowers, frogs, antiques, stray animals and people. She cared for all living beings, showing God's love by her actions. She and "Granddad" cared for their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as several children from Christ's Haven Home in Keller.

The family would like to express special thanks to Peter Grays, M.D.; Jay Hanes, M.D. and his office staff, Brandy and Chris; Courtney Huebner and Paula Corman of Samaritan Care Hospice. For the love and compassion shown us during this time, we will be eternally grateful.
