Funeral:2 p.m. Monday at Goen- Hudgens Funeral Home. Burial: Belew Cemetery in Aubrey. Visitation: 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Alta Lorene Wright was born June 29, 1920, in Wapanucka, Okla. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Aubrey.

Survivors: Husband, Thomas A. Wright of Pilot Point; four sons, Walter Lloyd of Pilot Point, Jerry Don of Aubrey, Paul Holley of Denton, and Larry Gene of Wichita Falls; four daughters, Darlene Phillips of Aubrey, Irene McCarson of Colleyville, Shirley Cannon of Emory, and Brenda Kirby of Pilot Point; brothers, Lloyd Foster and James "Bud" Foster, both of Gainesville; sisters, Gladys Parker of Whitesboro, and Billie Joe Haugh of Arlington; 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

MANSFIELD -- John Nicklas Tipping Jr., 53, vice president of KMC Insurance Co., died Friday, May 2, 1997, in Sabine Parish, La.

John Tipping was born Oct. 24, 1953, in Crafton, Pa. He married Marcia Ann Elliott in Gainesville, Fla., June 12, 1967. He was a member of Phi Sigma Epsilon Fraternity.

Survivors: Wife, Marcia Ann Tipping of Mansfield; sons, John Anthony Tipping of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Bradley Elliott Tipping of Arlington; and two sisters.

DESDEMONA -- Georgia Augusta Whitlock, 83, a retired sewing factory machine operator died Saturday, May 3, 1997, at an Abilene hospital.

Jerry Garrett Woodard
EULESS -- Jerry Garrett Woodard, 46, a bowling youth director, died Thursday, May 1, 1997, in Bedford.

Funeral: Was Saturday at Moore Funeral Home. Burial: Moore Memorial Gardens.

Jerry Woodard was born June 22, 1950, in Knox City, Texas. The joy of her life was her granddaughter, Dani, her "little angel." Jerry lived for her kids, "Jerry's Kids" as they were called. She devoted many countless hours to the youth bowlers in the Fort Worth/Dallas area. She worked for the past eight years at three area bowling centers, Showplace Lanes, Bronco Bowl and Hurst Bowl.

She volunteered with many organizations and committees devoted to kids. Most recently, she served as president of the Fort Worth Yaba, and she belonged to the Fort Worth Coaches Association and HEB Adopt-A-School. She will be missed by many. Jerry gave of her heart, from her heart and she has given all of her heart. We love you Jerry.

Survivors: Husband of 20 years, Gary "Woody" Woodard of Euless; son, Gary "Woody" Woodard Jr. of Euless; daughter, Lorie Woodard Turnao and her husband, Jimmy, of Fort Worth; parents, Alton and Loretta Garrett of Abilene; brother, Alton Garrett Jr. and his wife, Rene, of Arlington; sisters, Gail Box and her husband, Gary, of Bedford, Ramona Brown and her husband, Robert, of Decatur, and Rhena Friend of Euless; granddaughter, Dani Woodard of Fort Worth; parents-in-law, A.C. and Kerry Woodard of Grand Prairie; three brothers-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.

FORT WORTH -- Michael C. Absher, 51, a car salesman for Texas Motors, died Friday, May 2, 1997, in a Weatherford hospital.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Tuesday at White's Funeral Home in Azle. Burial: Azleland Cemetery. Visitation: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, and 8 a.m. until service time Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Michael Absher was born Jan. 24, 1946, in Fort Worth. He grew up in White Settlement and attended Brewer High School, where he played in the band. In 1968, he graduated from Texas Christian University with a Bachelor of Arts degree. After working for a number of years as an accountant for International Harvester, he joined the staff at Texas Motors. He and his wife, Carol, were members of Aledo United Methodist Church. Michael became a friend to everyone who met him.

Survivors: Wife, Carol Absher of Fort Worth; son, Michael Todd Absher of Fort Worth; daughter and son-in-law, Karen Michelle and Waylon D. Kaufman of Fort Worth; mother, Edna Oleta Absher of Azle; and sisters, Sharon Ruth Moshier, and sister and husband, Jerri and Eddie R. Hajek, both of Azle.

James Harold Akin
HUBBARD -- James Harold Akin, 64, retired from General Dynamics, died Saturday, May 3, 1997, at home.

Funeral:2 p.m. Tuesday at Wade Funeral Home. Burial: Fairview Cemetery in Hubbard. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Wade's Chapel. Rev. Rick Woodall of the First Baptist Church in Hubbard and Rev. Ronnie Beams of the First Baptist Church in Benbrook will officiate.

Pallbearers: Chris Akin, David Cason, Ed Edwards, Mitchell Fickey, Bradley Matthys and Rick Walsh. Honorary Pallbearers: Jack Dillard, Mel Edwards, Jimmie Johansen, Dwain Neal, Joe Vaughn and P.R. Wisdom.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the First Baptist Church of Hubbard or charity of choice.

James Harold Akin was born Nov. 3, 1932, in Princeton to Mart and Ava Jackson Akin. He later moved to Fort Worth where he made life-long friends playing baseball. He was All-State second baseman in 1950 when Arlington Heights High School of Fort Worth went off to State Play-offs.

James graduated from Arlington Heights and Texas Christian University with a BBA in management and married Patsy Lawler on June 2, 1951. He had 40 years of service with General Dynamics before retiring in December of 1992 and during his tenure held various positions including Manager of the Consortium Program in the United States, Belgium, Norway, Denmark and the Netherlands, Director of the Turkey Joint Venture Project Office and General Manager of Maquiladora Palnt in Chihuahua, Mexico. James was an ordained deacon and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Benbrook for 35 years. Shortly after building his retirement home on the acreage he purchased in 1975, James and his wife, Pat, joined the First Baptist Church of Hubbard.

Survivors:Wife, Patsy Lawler Akin of Hubbard; sons and daughters-in-law, Jack and Sue Akin of Evergreen, Colo., and Rick and Donna Akin of San Angelo; daughter and son-in-law, Angie and Jose Cuevas of Lubbock; six grandchildren, Chris, Aaron, Jamie, Ryon, Katie and Matthew; and brother and sister-in- law, Merle and Hazel Akin of Alvarado.

Ben Dollins was born Oct. 31, 1916 in Fort Worth. He was a member of East Meadows Baptist Church and its Gideon Sunday school class. He was also a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by wife, Mary Dollins.

Survivors: Daughter, Barbara Maxwell and husband, Wallie, of Fort Worth; son, Hubert Dollins and wife, Kathy, of Stephenville; grandchildren, Shelley Brawley and husband, David, Carrey Dollins, Kim Wimberley and husband, Rodney, and Karyn Grimes, and husband, Eddie; great-granchildren, Will Grimes, Sarah Wimberley, Bryson Brawley and Drew Grimes; sister, Dorothy Smythe of Fort Worth;and several nephews and nieces.
