GRAND PRAIRIE -- George "Buddy" Birkert, 56, owner/operator of A-1 Auto Clinic, died Wednesday, May 14, 1997, at home.

Funeral: 11 a.m. Saturday at 8th Street Baptist Church in Grand Prairie. Burial: Southland Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Brown's Grand Prairie Funeral Home.

Survivors: Wife, Cynthia Birkert of Grand Prairie; sons, Michael Wayne Birkert of Irving, Leslie Doyle Birkert of Galveston, Joshua Jackson of Grand Prairie, Shane Jackson of Grand Prairie and Vincent King of Irving; daughter, Suzanne Spurlock of Midlothian and Misty Michelle Birkert of Grand Prairie; sister, Janie Scoggins of Arlington; and six grandchildren.

Clara Belle Braswell

AUSTIN -- Clara Belle Braswell, 80, a homemaker, died Thursday, May 15, 1997, in Austin.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Sunday at Blessing Funeral Home in Mansfield. Burial: Rendon Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Clara Belle Braswell was born Oct. 4, 1916, in Hamlin and she was touched by an angel on May 15, 1997. She died after a lengthy illness.

She graduated from Emporia High School in Emporia, Kan. She was a resident at Regency Village Care Center where she was voted Miss Valentine because of her love and kindness to others. Special thanks to the Regency Staff for their care and concern. She will be remembered by all who knew her as a shining example of love, generosity and kindness.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Audie May Renchler, daughter, Belva Karen Rippetoe of Bangs, and her husband, Rudy A. "Red" Braswell of Fort Worth.

Survivors: Sons, Randy Braswell of Austin; daughters, Nona Gayl Carnes and her husband, Bennie, of Bangs; brothers, Fred Renchler of Topeka, Kan., and Bob Renchler of Breckenridge; sister, Alma Hurst of Gresham, Ore.; grandchildren, Carmen and B.J. Carnes, Eric and Christopher Braswell; and great-granddaughter, McKenzie Carnes.

MORGAN -- Jerry Edmond Brooks, 68, a retired quality control inspector, died Wednesday, May 14, 1997, in Waco.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Saturday at Morgan First Baptist Church in Morgan. Burial: Kimbell Cemetery, near Kopperl.

Jerry Edmond Brooks was born Feb. 18, 1929, in Steiner Valley in Bosque County.

Lola Jane Chester

FORT WORTH -- Lola Jane Chester, 61, who worked in print sales with the Barr Company in Fort Worth, died Thursday, May 15, 1997, at home.

Funeral: 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter's Orthodox Church. Burial: Saturday in Greenwood Memorial Park.

Pallbearers: Sam Kalil, Robert Palmer, Jimmy Green, Charles Schaub, Don Shipe and Kent Schmedel. Memorials: St. Peter's Orthodox Church, 7601 Bellaire Dr. S., 76132, and the Harris Bone Marrow Transplant Program at Klabzuba Cancer Center, 1300 W. Terrell, Fort Worth, Texas 76104.

Lola Jane Chester was born May 7, 1936, in Sunbury, Pa., then raised her family in New Jersey. She later moved to Fort Worth to be with her family. She was a member of St. Peter's Orthodox Church. She was also very active and supportive of the arts and letters. She was a member of the International Association of Business Communicators. She enjoyed several careers, including art gallery owner and newspaper work. She was very active in the church and leaves behind an extended group of family and friends across the country.

Survivors: Sons, Eric Mowrey and Marc Mowrey; brother, Chris Chester; grandchildren, Ryan, Alexandra, Tennessee and Amory; daughters-in-law, Katherine Mowrey, Katharine Weiser; in- laws, Mary and Richard Hartman, Maria and John Weiser, Nicholas Riley and Deana Avantaggio.

FORT WORTH -- Corey Ryan Cockburn, 1, died Wednesday, May 14, 1997, in Fort Worth.

Corey Cockburn was born April 21, 1996, in Fort Worth.

Lovie Jordan Connally was born Feb. 14, 1904, in Weatherford.

She was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors: Son, Gene Jordan of Weatherford; daughters, Helen Shaw and Dorothy Clydine Barbee, both of Fort Worth; sister, Lenna Dahlenberg of Fort Worth; 10 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

ARLINGTON -- Garnett Fred Davis, 69, owner of Guardian Collection Bureau, died Wednesday, May 14, 1997, at a local hospital after a brief illness.

Funeral: 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Shannon Rose Hill Funeral Chapel. Burial: Shannon Rose Hill Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Shannon Rose Hill Funeral Home.

Garnett Fred Davis was born Aug. 4, 1927, in Chilhowie, Va.

He lived in Lynchburg until coming to Texas in 1945 to attend Bible Baptist Seminary.

He graduated from the School of Music, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Mr. Davis' career experience included sales for Armstrong Packing Co. and executive vice president for National Photographers Album Co. of Fort Worth.

He began his own billing/collection service in 1978 and was still active in the business.

Mr. Davis was a Baptist and served in many capacities of music, church organization and Bible teaching throughout the years.

Survivors: Wife of 49 years, Margaret Davis of Arlington; daughter, Dixie and her husband, Richard Berman, of Potomac, Md.; sister-in-law, Lila and her husband, Max Carlton, of Arlington; three grandsons, Tripp Huey of Dallas, Russ Huey of Arlington and Seth Berman of Potomac, Md.; niece, Sandra Manley of Arlington; nephew, David L. Neely and his wife, Judy, of Bedford; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

SALESVILLE COMMUNITY -- Opal Denson, 85, a homemaker, died Wednesday, May 14, at a Mineral Wells hospital.

Funeral: 10 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Mineral Wells. Burial: Salesville Cemetery in Palo Pinto County.

Memorials: First Baptist Church Memorial Fund or Palo Pinto General Hospital Auxiliary Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Opal Denson was born Dec. 6, 1911, in Salesville.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Mineral Wells, active in Sunday school and senior activities as well as a life member of the Palo Pinto General Hospital.

Survivors: Husband, Carroll Denson of the Salesville Community; sons, Leon Wallace of Mineral Wells and Norrel Wallace of Carterville, Ill.; stepdaughter, Elizabeth Denson Gainey of Goldsboro, N.C.; seven grandchildren; 12 great- grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, including Donalita Adkins, O.J. "Poe" Grantham and George Boyd; and several great-nieces and great- nephews.

Walter E. Eckert

BENBROOK -- Walter E. Eckert, 87, a retired housing inspector for the FHA, died Wednesday, May 14, 1997, at home.

Funeral: 4 p.m. Friday at Greenwood Funeral Home. Burial: Greenwood Memorial Park.

Memorials: Faith Lutheran Church or the American Lung Association.

Walter E. Eckert was born March 14, 1910, in Mason County. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the VFW. He was also a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Oddfellows and the National Association of Federal Retirees. Mr. Eckert was a former resident of Granbury before moving to Benbrook in 1992.

Survivors: Wife of 63 years, Denva Eckert of Benbrook; daughters, Sharon Vick and her husband, Robert, of Benbrook and Walterann McQuatters and her husband, Frank, of Euless; four grandchildren; and five great- grandchildren.
