FORT WORTH -- William R. "Bill" Owen, 68, retired from the Air Force, died Tuesday, May 13, 1997, at a local hospital.

Funeral: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Haltom City. Burial: Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park.

William R. Owen was born Feb. 19, 1929, in Camden, Ark.

Survivors: Wife of 45 years, Lisa Owen; sons, William G. Owen and his wife, Gina, and David W. Owen; brother, Dwight L. Owen and his wife, Lottie; sisters, Dorothy Crews and her husband, Frank, Lena Pearl Coke and her husband, R.J, and Margaret Warnix and Georgie Pierce; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Ruby Dorthy Peterson

JUSTIN -- Ruby Dorthy Peterson, 89, a homemaker, died Wednesday, May 14, 1997, at a Denton hospital.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Justin. Burial: Justin I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Ruby Dorthy Peterson was born June 8, 1907, in Allen.

She attended Justin High School and the North Texas Teacher's College at the University of North Texas. She was a charter member of the 20th Century Study Club and a member of the Drop Extention Club.

Survivors: Husband, A.L. Peterson of Justin; daughter, Janice May of Justin; sisters, Lucille Osburn of Fort Worth and Nola Goad of Waxahachie; three grandchildren; and three great-granchildren.

Delvin Edward Reynolds

MABANK -- Delvin Edward Reynolds, 74, a machinist for a paper company, died Wednesday, May 14, 1997, at an Arlington hospital.

Delvin Edward Reynolds was born May 28, 1923, in Wolfe City.

He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of First Baptist Church in Arlington.

Survivors: Wife, Alma Reynolds; son, Johnny D. Reynolds of Gun Barrel City; daughters, Tina Glass, Anita Gribbin and Gayla Richey, all of Arlington; six grandchildren; three great-grandsons; and sister, Robbie Jean Reynolds of McKinney.

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS -- Wayne Rivers, 60, who worked in the heating and air conditioning field for 35 years in the local area, died Wednesday, May 14, 1997, in Arlington.

Funeral: 10 a.m. Saturday at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home in Colleyville. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.

Wayne Rivers was born April 14, 1937, in Sweetwater, Texas.

He was preceded in death by children, Kyle Rivers and Leigh Ann Rivers, and by his father, Wash Rivers.

Survivors: Wife, Ann Rivers of North Richland Hills; son, Eric Rivers and wife, Kelly, of Bedford; daughter, Renee Brown and husband, Bill, of Watauga; mother, Ozela Rivers of Ortan; brother, Clarance Rivers of Big Spring; grandchildren, Jeffrey Brown of Watauga, Camero and Ian Fowler of San Antonio and Parker and Tanner Rivers of Bedford; his special friends at Rushco, who kept him going every day; and many friends and relatives.

Reta Shipley

HALTOM CITY -- Reta Shipley, 75, a retired data processor for the city of Fort Worth, died Wednesday, May 14, 1997, in Watauga.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Saturday at Mount Olivet Funeral Home. Burial: Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Reta Shipley was born Feb. 17, 1922, in Melvin.

She retired from the city of Fort Worth as a data processor in 1983 after 29 years. She was a resident of Fort Worth since 1945.

Survivors: Daughter, Golda Graff of North Richland Hills; sister, Louise Carpenter of Ellingsburg, Wash.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Jerry D. Shumate

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS -- Jerry D. Shumate, 66, owner of Fire and Safety Equipment Co., died Tuesday, May 13, 1997, at home.

Jerry D. Shumate was born Aug. 21, 1930, in Waco.

He was retired from the Air Force and had served in the Korean and Vietnam wars. Mr. Shumate was past master of James V. Callan Da-Lite Masonic Lodge 1422 AF&AM in Dallas. He was a member of Scottish Rite, Moslah Shrine and past president of the Moslah Clown Unit.

Survivors: Wife, Peggy Shumate of North Richland Hills; son, Gary Shumate and his wife, Debra, of North Richland Hills; daughters, Janet Stone and her husband, Jimmy Don Hardin, of North Richland Hills, Yvetta King of North Richland Hills, Vicci Winchester of Keller, Jerri Lynn Shumate of Arizona, Jackie Benoit of Washington and Kelly Chambers of Washington; brother, P.B. Herbert Edward Strawn was born Aug. 29, 1913, in Murfasboro, Ark.

He had lived in the Fort Worth area since 1979 and was a Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors: Son, Herbert G. Strawn of Arlington; daughter, Priscilla Sue; brother, Leslie Strawn of Texas City; sister, Effie Jones; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; stepson, Jerry W. Dodd of Indianapolis; and stepdaughters, Linda Magourik of Monee, Ill., and Jackie.

Clara Thomas was born Aug. 24, 1926, in Desota Parish, La., to Archie and Mattie Washington. She excelled as a homemaker, mother and grandmother who strived to give all a richer and better life.

Nathaniel H. Thompkins was born Aug. 12, 1915, in Cherokee County. He coached Little League baseball for many years and loved playing dominoes. He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Annie Massey Thompkins, and his former wife and mother of his children, Gertrude Mollette..

Survivors: Son, Kevin D. Thompkins and his wife, Patricia, of Arlington; daughter, Billye Lewis of Fort Worth; sister, Hattie Beal of Tyler; grandchildren, Steven Jones and Katrina Thompkins; and nephews and nieces.
