Bonnie Pearson was born Aug. 25, 1933, in Bonham.

Shirley Powell was born Nov. 18, 1945, in San Antonio, Texas. She was the daughter of the late Elmon Walker and Ella Anna Helmke Windham. She was a member of Cahill United Methodist Church in Alvarado. She married Leslie O. Powell on Oct. 13, 1967, in Hondo, Texas.

Survivors: Husband, Les Powell of Alvarado; son, Jerry and wife, Karen Powell, of Benbrook; daughter, Vicky Powell of North Richland Hills; brother, Larry Windham of Yoakum; sister, Dorothy Towers of Garden Ridge; grandson, Jerry Powell Jr. of Benbrook; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Sam and Dan Sullivan, Sharon and Wes Hicks, Hershel and Eloisie Nelson and Carol Williams.

Alvin P. "Edd" Powers
GRAPEVINE -- Alvin P. "Edd" Powers, 82, a retired truck driver, died Tuesday, May 20, 1997, at a Grapevine medical center.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Friday at Abundant Life Assembly of God in Grapevine. Burial: Parker Memorial Cemetery. Visitation: 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at J.E. Foust & Son Funeral Directors.

Alvin Powers was born Jan. 26, 1915, in Grapevine and was a lifelong resident. He was a member of Abundant Life Assembly of God in Grapevine. He retired from Fleming Companies (White Swan- Waples Platter).

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Hall Powers.

Survivors: Daughters, Betty Bailey and husband, Wayne, of McKinney and Peggy Powers West of Grapevine; sister, Bessie Koch of Grand Prairie; grandchildren, Dane Bailey and wife, Cathy, of McKinney and Brady West of Grapevine; great-granddaughters, Morgan and Laura Bailey; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Charles Reeves
ARLINGTON -- Charles "Chuck" Reeves, 62, retired from the Air Force, died Wednesday, May 21, 1997, in Arlington.

Funeral: 3:30 p.m. Friday at Moore Funeral Home-Bowen Chapel. Burial: Moore Memorial Gardens in Arlington. Visitation: 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. A Masonic graveside service will be held.

Charles Reeves was born May 8, 1935. He was a member of Keller Masonic Lodge No. 1084.

Survivors: Sons, Richard Reeves, Jeffrey Reeves, Mitch Reeves, Bryan Reeves and Justin Reeves; daughters, Gloria Hackler and Shawna Tyrrell; brothers, Cleo Reeves and Bill Reeves; and 12 grandchildren.

Ronald David Rider
ARLINGTON -- Ronald David "Ron" Rider, 38, an employee of North Texas Golf Cars, died Monday, May 19, 1997, at a local hospital.

Body donated to University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center of Dallas.

Ronald David "Ron" Rider was born Oct. 8, 1958, in Corpus Christi.

Ron had the spirit for life.

As a teenager he overcame melanoma cancer and later, tragic burns to almost half his body.

Most recently he had fought to overcome congestive heart problems, colon cancer surgery, then sudden cardiac death.

His spirit for life touched many people.

Survivors: Mother, Pat Davis of Corpus Christi; sister and her husband, Denise and Joel Jeppson of Corinth; brother and his wife, Rick and Shelley Rider; grandfather, Ted Paddock of Lake Dallas; aunt and uncle, Micke and John Jinks; a niece and nephews; and many friends in Fort Worth, Arlington and Corpus Christi.

FORT WORTH -- Hazel Newman Smith, 91, who worked in accounting and bookkeeping, died Tuesday, May 20, 1997, in Fort Worth.

Funeral: 1 p.m. Friday at Greenwood Funeral Home. Entombment: Greenwood Mausoleum. Visitation: 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.

Memorials: Joe W. Elliott House, 220 Gene Samford Drive, Lufkin, Texas 75904; or a charity of choice.

Hazel Newman Smith was born Aug. 29, 1905, in Collinsville. She was a member of Arlington Heights Chapter 702 and the Ridglea Chapter 999 Order of the Eastern Star. She was also a member of the Woman's Club of Fort Worth and Travis Avenue Baptist Church.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Smith Sr.

Survivors: Sons, James E. Smith Jr. and his wife, Bobbie, of Clinton, Miss., and Charles Thomas Smith and his wife, Ellen, of Sugar Land; daughter, Kay Lee Smith and her husband, Hugh, of Joshua; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Ray Smoot
RANGER -- Ray Smoot, 75, a former teacher and coach, passed away Monday, May 19, 1997, at an Eastland hospital.

Funeral: 10 a.m. Thursday at Mesquite and Rusk St. Church of Christ in Ranger. Graveside service: 3 p.m. Thursday in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Fort Worth. Shawn Johnson will officiate in Ranger.

Ray Smoot was born in Ranger on Dec. 30, 1921, to Albert and Martha McGlothlin Smoot. He was a high school graduate and received a masters and a bachelors degree. He taught and coached a total of 35 years in Carbon, Birdville, John T. White, Smithfield, Newark, Olden and Morgan. He married Frances Vick on Dec. 24, 1950 in Fort Worth, while attending college. He was a past commander of the Morgan American Legion and a member of the V.F.W. in New Boston and was a 32nd degree Mason, AF&AM. He was a Past Master of three lodges, Smithfield, Morgan and Ranger. He was Deputy Grand Master 1996-1997 for the Ranger area. He was a member of the Moslah Temple as a Shriner in Fort Worth and a member of the Scottish Rite. He was a Marine during World War II, serving with Company E, 28th Division in the Pacific Campaign, including duty at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He was a member of the Mesquite and Rusk St. Church of Christ in Ranger.

Survivors: Wife, Frances Smoot of Ranger; daughters, Vicki Lea Smith of Muskegon, Mich., and Ginny Wilson of Fort Worth; two brothers, William N. Smoot of Rising Star and A.C. Smoot of Grapeland; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.

GRANBURY -- Wanda Threadgill, 65, a Kmart employee who retired after 20 years, died Monday, May 19, 1997, at a Granbury hospital.

Wanda Threadgill was born Aug. 3, 1931, in Petersburg, Texas.

Survivors: Husband of 49 years, Dub Threadgill of Granbury; sons, Dennis Lee Threadgill and wife, Toni, of Emory, and Darrell Threadgill and wife, Rebecca, of Granbury; daughter, Donna Sue Armstrong of Granbury; sister, Opal Jo Higginbotham of Plainview; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

HALTOM CITY -- Jim P. Vaughan, 63, a retired machinist, died Tuesday, May 20, 1997, in Haltom City.

Jim Vaughan was born Dec. 1, 1933, in Altus, Ark. He worked as a general machinist for Bell Helicopter 291/2 years. He retired in 1996. He was a member of UAW 218, Hurst Masonic Lodge 1387, Scottish Rite Order of Fort Worth, Directors of Moslah Shriners, Presidents of Mid-Cities Shrine Club and Eastern Star Lodge 1099.

Survivors: Wife, Lou Vaughan of Haltom City; sons, Paul Vaughan and Gary Vaughan, both of Tulsa, Okla., Troy Hammonds of Virginia, Jimmy Vaughan of Houston and Dewey Vaughan of Port Arthur; daughters, Teresa Chandler of Grand Prairie and Pauline Sanderson of Irving; brother, Harold Vaughan of Greenlee, Colo.; sister, Awilda Johns of Van Buren, Ark.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Temple E. "Tem" Wallace was born Nov. 8, 1931, in Rotan.

He was a member of Hurst Baptist Church, the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star. Mr. Wallace was one of the first volunteer firefighters in Hurst in 1954.

Survivors: Oleta Wallace of Bedford; sons, Gary and his wife, Cynthia Wallace, of Sharon, Okla., and Tim and his wife, Anna Wallace, of Bedford; daughter, Samyra "Nann" and her husband, Bill Chrisp, of Bedford; grandchildren, Dean, Kyria, Krissy, Amy, Ashley, Abby, Elizabeth and Syndi; and many other loving relatives and friends.
