William Desmond was born Dec. 19, 1945, in Paterson, N.J.

Survivors: Wife, Elizabeth Desmond; sons, William George Desmond, Brian Kurt Desmond, Brian Webb Finney, Richard Allen Merrill and William Cody Desmond; daughter, Kelly Jean Desmond; sisters, Pat Desmond and Betty Provencher; and seven grandchildren.

BURLESON -- F. Wayne Eden, 80, retired from Halliburton Corp., died Wednesday, May 28, 1997, in Burleson.

Memorial service: 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Highland Church of Christ, 1201 Sycamore School Rd., Fort Worth. Graveside service: 3 p.m. Saturday in Duncan Cemetery, South U.S. Hwy. 81, Duncan, Okla.

F. Wayne Eden was born Sept. 2, 1916, in Golden, Mo. He was a former resident of Duncan, Okla. Mr. Eden retired in January of 1974 after 32 years with Halliburton Corp.

He was an elder of Highland Church of Christ and a former elder of Chisholm Trail Church of Christ of Duncan, Okla.

Survivors: Wife, Opal E. Eden; sons, Gary W. Eden and his wife, Carolyn Eden, of Plano and Dr. Billy M. Eden and wife, Cindy A. Eden, of Fort Worth; daughter and son-in-law, Darla S. Ard and husband, Lewis Ard, of Crowley; grandchildren, Kevin Eden, Ross Harlow, Amy Hosch, Kristen Warren, Russell Eden and Ryan Eden; and great- granddaughter, Maegan Harlow.

Robert Sellers France
FORT WORTH -- Robert Sellers France, 57, a senior agent for the Internal Revenue Service, died suddenly on Monday, May 26, 1997, in Fort Worth.

Memorials: Texas Lions Camp in Kerrville, Texas.

Seldom do we honor the individuals who make lifelong contributions to the welfare of others as did Bob France.

Bob was a man who quietly gave more than he took throughout his life. He served his country as a captain in the Army. He was involved with civic contributions and responsibilities for more than 35 years as a member of the Lions Club and held various offices in Wyoming and in the Southwest Lions Club in Fort Worth. He proudly served as a marshal of the annual Colonial Golf Tournament for 16 years. He was also a soccer coach.

He was employed for over 36 years by the Internal Revenue Service, where he was one of the most senior agents in the United States. He looked forward to retirement soon. More than all else, Bob France was a dedicated family man. With Marian, his wife of 32 years, he shared the joys and tribulations of raising a family. As a father, he was actively involved in the lives of his family. He was a faithful husband, an adoring grandfather and a good friend.

Survivors: His wife, Marian; son, Erik and his fiancee, Dynette; daughter, Kim, and granddaughter, Taylor; sister, Laurel Wolfe of Omaha, Neb.; and many friends.

Crystal Annaline Harvey
BURLESON -- Crystal Annaline Harvey, 97, a homemaker, died Tuesday, May 27, 1997, at home.

Funeral: no services are planned. Burial: Sunset Hills Memorial Gardens in Franklin, Pa.

Crystal Harvey was born Aug. 21, 1899, in Sandy Lake, Pa. She had been a resident of Burleson since 1981. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Franklin, Pa. She enjoyed gardening and fishing and had walked two miles per day until she was 94. She was very devoted to her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard F. Harvey, in 1981, her four sisters, a grandson and a great- granddaughter.

Survivors: Son, Howard R. Harvey of Franklin, Pa.; daughters, M. Lorraine Shaffstall and Betty L. Jack, both of Burleson; grandchildren, Howard Shaffstall, Rick Shaffstall, Wendy Lagadinos, Ronald Harvey, David Harvey, Richard Harvey, Ruthanne Goad, Jim Jack, Sherri Morgan and Reggi Linch; 20 great-grandchildren; and 10 1/2 great-great-grandchildren.

Jimmy "Popeye" Hicks
FORT WORTH -- Jimmy "Popeye" Hicks, 63, an employee of Riverside Steel, died Saturday, May 24, 1997, at a local hospital.

Funeral: 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John Baptist Church, 3640 Avenue F. Burial: Cedar Hill Memorial Park. Wake: 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the church.

Jane Thomas Hill
FORT WORTH -- Jane Thomas Hill, 104, retired owner of a dry cleaning store, passed away Tuesday, May 27, 1997, in Fort Worth.

Graveside service: 10 a.m. Friday in Emerald Hills Memorial Park in Kennedale.

Jane Hill was born Oct. 29, 1892, in Louisiana, but lived most of her life in Fort Worth. She first came to Fort Worth in a covered wagon and one of her fondest memories was seeing the first movie in her life that night in downtown Fort Worth.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Elouise Worsham, and sons, Jim Hill and Jack Hill.

Survivors: Daughter, Wilma Medley; son, G.L. Hill; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 19 great- great-grandchildren.

Nicholas J. Hoffman Jr.
FORT WORTH -- Nicholas J. "Nick" Hoffman Jr., 85, a supervisor with Montgomery Ward who retired after 50 years of service, died Tuesday, May 27, 1997, at his daughter's home in Burleson.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Friday at Laurel Land Funeral Home in Fort Worth. Burial: Laurel Land Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Nicholas Hoffman Jr. was born Sept. 19, 1911, in Springfield, Ill. He was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church and was active in the Senior Citizens Center of Forest Hill.

Survivors: Daughters, Donna Barnes of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Carolyn Mann and her husband, George, of Burleson; brother, Frank and his wife, Julie, of California; sisters, Pauline Rhoades of Kerr- ville and Peggy and her husband, Russ Applegate, of Illinois; grandchildren, Steve, Victor and Donald Mann, Deborah Barnett, Jon and Karyn Barnes and Patricia Smith; and 12 great- grandchildren.

CHERRY HILL, Ark. -- Robert Holbert, 82, died Monday, May 26, 1997, at his home.

Graveside service: 2 p.m. Thursday in Cherry Hill Cemetery. Brother Dendin Guinn and Brother Gerald Hall will officiate.

Robert Holbert retired from Bell Helicopter in Hurst, Texas, in 1973 and retired from U.S. Motors in Mena, Ark., in 1980. He was a member and elder at Christ's Covenant Fellowship Church and was a volunteer at the Mid-America Museum.

Survivors: Wife, Lorene Holbert; daughters, Roberta Lynch, Nancy Hines, L. Jean Kathman and Betty Holbert; sister, Mollie Dedman; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

FORT WORTH -- Ewald K. House Jr., 76, an optometrist who retired from optometry a few months ago after 52 years, died Monday, May 26, 1997, in Fort Worth.

Funeral: 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Andrew Episcopal Church. The Rev. Jeffrey Steenson will be celebrant. Burial: Greenwood Memorial Park.

Dr. Ewald K. House Jr. was born Sept. 12, 1920, in Fort Worth. He was the son of Ewald Kuhn House Sr. and Margaret Dodd House. He was a lifelong resident of Fort Worth. He graduated from Paschal High School, the University of Texas and S.W. College of Optometry. He was a member of St. Andrew Episcopal Church, was past president of the Steeple Chase, Texas Optometric Association, The Ridotto and Sigma Phi Epsilon.

Survivors: Brother, Thomas M. House Sr.; nephew, Thomas Mack House Jr. and his wife, Ann, of Fort Worth; niece, Elizabeth Anne House Keller and her husband, Robert, of Dallas; and great-nieces and nephews, William Austin Keeler, Morgan Nicole Keeler, Robert Alan Keeler Jr., Thomas Medley House, Gaddis Barksdale House and Ann Brindley House.

Alta Jank was born April 3, 1906, in McLennan County.
