Haydie Cook was born Oct. 18, 1900, in Turnersville. She was a member of The Woman's Club.

She was the widow of Samuel Cook, a pioneer drilling contractor in the East Texas and Arkansas Oil Exploration Era.

Survivors: Son, Edward Cook and his wife, Gayle Webb Cook; daughter, Sammie Marie Cook Stripling and her husband, Coleman of El Paso; grandchildren, Catherine Cook Bernell, Samuell Edward Cook Jr., Bonnie Marie Cook Mosier, Thomas Coleman Stripling and Sheri Lynn Hervie; five great- grandchildren; and newphews and nieces.

Mr. Dunn was born July 8, 1918, in Jack County. John R. Ferguson
ARLINGTON -- John R. Ferguson, retired lieutenant colonel and salesman for Certain-Teed Products Corporation for 26 years, died Friday, May 30, 1997, in Dallas.

Funeral:11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Moore Funeral Home. Burial: Moore Memorial Gardens. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Lt. Col. Ferguson was born Oct. 30, 1916, in Teague. He served in the Army during World War II as a battalion adjutant, supply battalion and also served as the defense counsel, 3rd Armored Division General Court in 1944-1945. His division was first into Belgium, first into and subsequently through the Siegfried Line, and first to take a German town. The men of the 3rd Armored Division fought in five western European campaigns: Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland, the Ardennes, and in central Germany.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Arlington.

Lt. Col. Ferguson was an avid golfer and was a member of the Arlington Senior Men's Golf Association. He also served as marshall of many of the area's golf courses, including Lake Arlington and the Great Southwest golf courses.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Woodrow Wilson Ferguson, and sisters, Laura Mae and Sybil Brevard.

Survivors: Wife of 54 years, Vivien A. Ferguson of Arlington; son, John R. Ferguson III and his wife, Donna of Lafayette, La.; daughter, Calee Travis and her husband, Dr. James Travis of Plano; sisters, Mary Hurley of Fort Worth and Myrtle R. Barrett of Arlington; and grandchildren, Angela Bast of New Orleans, Jennifer Anderson of Dallas, and Robin and Lauren Travis, both of Plano.

Clara Leach Gibbs
IRVING -- Clara Leach Gibbs, 93, a longtime Irving resident, passed away Friday, May 30, 1997.

Funeral:10 a.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church of Irving. Burial: Oak Grove Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Brown's Memorial Funeral Home in Irving.

Officiants: Dr. David Johnson and Rev. Robin Moffat.

Memorials: Donations may be made to Irving Healthcare Auxiliary, First Presbyterian Church; Chet and Clara Gibbs Scholarship Fund at Irving Healthcare Systems; or a charity of choice.

Clara Leach Gibbs was born Jan. 6, 1904, in Wellington. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chet Gibbs. The couple worked together at Chet Gibbs Real Estate Co., where they were responsible for building more than 900 Irving homes throughout the 50s and 60s.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Irving for 60 years. She was a life member of Irving Healthcare Auxiliary, Friends of Public Library and P.E.O. She was a charter member of Irving Heritage Society, Irving Garden and Arts Association and the Community Concert Association. She was also a participating member of Irving Rotary Anns, Irving Book Review Club, Irving Garden Club and Irving Healthcare Foundation Guild. She received the following recognition awards: High Spirt Award; Salt & Light Award; Altrusa Woman of the Year; and Irving Healthcare Honors Award. She participated in PTA from 1936 to 1950, and sponsored student plays and class activities. She was active in the Cultural Arts Association of Irving and The Irving Symphony League. She and Chet made a lasting gift to Irving Healthcare Systems with the beautiful stained glass windows in the hospital chapel. In addition, she sponsored the Chet and Clara Gibbs Scholarship Fund of Irving Healthcare.

Survivors: Several nieces and nephews.

Alan Mead Gordon
BEDFORD -- Alan Mead Gordon, 87, a retired psychologist, died Thursday, May 29, 1997, at his home.

Alan Mead Gordon was born Sept. 14, 1909, in Ancon, Panama, Canal Zone. He was director of the Psychology Department for Iowa's state hospital system. He graduated from Johns Hopkins University and received a master's degree from Vanderbilt University. He was a fellow and lifetime member of the American Association on Mental Retardation.

Survivors: Wife, Musetta Gordon; daughter, Jean Gordon Ryon; stepson, Charles McGavern; stepdaughter, Miranda Peters; and three stepgrandsons.

Bessie O. Hadley was born July 12, 1906, in Hood County, and lived in Paluxy most of her life. She was a postmaster and telephone operator in Paluxy for many years, and operated both from her home. She was a member of the First Methodist Church of Granbury.

Survivors: Daughter, Vivian I. Musick of Fort Worth; grandsons, Leon D. Musick Jr. of Paluxy and Jimmy W. Musick of Fort Worth; granddaughters, Sandra E. DeTavernier of Fort Worth and Karen O. Clark of Paluxy; six great- grandchildren; and two great-great- grandchildren.

T.C. Martin was born Nov. 5, 1923, in Avalon. He had lived in Arlington for 18 years. He was employed with Star Vending Company in Fort Worth for 32 years. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II as a glider pilot and a mechanic.
