MONTAGUE -- Norman Odell Solomon, 70, a General Dynamics supervisor who retired with over 40 years of service, died Wednesday, June 11, 1997, at a Decatur hospital.

Memorial service: 10 a.m. Friday at St. Williams Catholic Church in Montague. Burial: Montague County Catholic Cemetery.

Norman Odell Solomon was born May 25, 1927, in Able Springs, Texas. He married Betty Joyce Bragg on Aug. 19, 1949, in Weatherford. He was a World War II veteran, a member of St. Williams Catholic Church and a member of Texas Old Time Fiddlers Association.

Survivors: Wife, Betty of Montague; son, Ronald Solomon of Decatur; daughter, Sharon Solomon of Decatur; mother, Bulah Fay Walker of Rhome; brother, Wayne Solomono of Rockwall; and three grandchildren.

Joseph A. Tilley III
FORT WORTH -- Joseph Ainsworth Tilley III, 34, an institutional equity trader for Rauscher, Pierce, Refsnes Inc., in Dallas, died Tuesday, June 10, 1997, while vacationing in Madeira, Portugal.

Joseph Ainsworth Tilley III was born Feb. 25, 1963, in Fort Worth. His education consisted of the American Graduate School of International Management (Thunderbird Campus) in Glendale, Ariz., in 1988; Texas Christian University in Fort Worth with a degree in finance in 1986; and Fort Worth Country Day School in Fort Worth in 1981. Previously he was a presidential appointee in the Agriculture Department during the Bush administration. He was a member of the Fort Worth Club, Steeplechase and Kappa Sigma fraternity.

Mr. Tilley was a loving husband, son, brother and friend.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Phyllis Jones Tilley.

Survivors: Wife, Elizabeth "Libby" Durham Tilley, whom he married in 1992; his father, Joe A. Tilley Jr.; sisters, Gwen Tilley Morgan and her husband, Christopher H. Morgan, of Gates Mills, Ohio, and Ann Tilley Smith and her husband, Samuel B. Smith Jr., of Fort Worth; sister-in-law, Ginger Durham of Dallas; and nieces and nephews, Christopher and Katharine Morgan of Gates Mills and Samuel and Olivia Smith of Fort Worth.

Phil Ulmer
SAGINAW -- Phil Ulmer, 70, a retired engineer for Bell Helicopter and General Dynamics, died Tuesday, June 10, 1997, at a local hospital.

Funeral: 1:30 p.m. Friday at Shannon Rose Hill Funeral Home. Burial: Shannon Rose Hill Memorial Park.

Phil Ulmer was born Jan. 30, 1927, in Handley. He was a lifetime member of Handley Baptist Church and had served in the Navy during World War II. He was a graduate of Texas Christian University and a past master of Handley Masonic Lodge 1140.

He was a member of Moslah Temple Shrine and a past Thrice Illustrious Master of Handley chapter and council.

Mr. Ulmer was past patron of the order of the Eastern Star 617, a member and trustee of VFW Post 8235, Fort Worth Scottish Rite and a volunteer for John Peter Smith Health Network with 1000 plus hours.

Survivors: Sons, Phillip Ulmer of Eagle River, Alaska, and Gregory Ulmer of Fort Worth; daughters, Pamela Perkins of Grapevine and Melanie Vicari of Fort Worth; sister, Dorothy Ray of Beaumont, nine grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

FORT WORTH -- Pat Wair Sr., 79, a retired plumber, died Sunday, June 8, 1997, at a Fort Worth hospital.

Funeral: 11 a.m. Saturday at Williams Funeral Chapel. Burial: Skyvue Memorial Gardens. Wake: 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Pat Wair Sr. was born Nov. 27, 1917. He was a decorated World War II Army veteran with three Bronze Stars.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Erma Wair, in 1990.

Survivors: Son, Odell Wair; daughters, Patsy Raven and Blondie Wair; brothers, Vernon Wair and Ballard Wair; sister, Doris Johnson; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Joan Ryan Webb
FORT WORTH -- Joan Ryan Webb, 64, a retired teacher, died Tuesday, June 10, 1997, at a Fort Worth hospital.

Joan Webb was born Feb. 28, 1933, in Texarkana, Ark.

She was a Fort Worth resident more than 40 years. She taught third grade at Mary Louise Phillips Elementary School and pre-Kindergarten at Morningside Elementary. She was a member of Arlington Heights United Methodist Church. Mrs. Webb was also a member of several embroidery and quilting guilds.

Survivors: Husband, Victor C. Webb of Fort Worth; sons, David Webb of Mesquite, Brian Webb of Los Colinas and Kenneth Webb of Fort Worth; mother, Louite Ryan of Texarkana; brother, Cliford Ryan Jr. of Starkville, Miss.; and grandchildren, Brandon Webb and Brooke Webb.

Mel L. Wheeler DENTON -- Mel L. Wheeler, 81, a television pioneer and longtime broadcast executive, died Monday, June 9, 1997, at home in Denton.

Funeral: services pending at Harper- Morris Funeral Home in Pensacola, Fla. Visitation: 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at DeBerry Funeral Home in Denton.

Mel L. Wheeler was born March 6, 1916, in Marietta, Ga.

He served in the Army during World War II. He was awarded the Bronze Star while serving as an infantry first sergeant in the Philippines. He married Vinny Ryan in 1944. He entered the business of television and radio broadcasting after the war. He was the first general manager of Wear-TV in Pensacola, Fla., during the 1950s and early '60s. He was president of Bass Brothers Broadcasting of Fort Worth from 1967 till 1975. Bass Brothers owned television and radio stations in Texas, California and Virginia.

In 1976, he formed Mel Wheeler, Inc., which owns radio stations in Roanoke, Va., and television stations WSIL in Harrisburg, Ill., and KRCG in Jefferson City, Mo. He was active in the company until his death.

Wheeler of Denton; sons, Steve Wheeler and his wife, Bonnie, of Carterville, Ill., Clark Wheeler of Selma, Ala., and Leonard Wheeler of Roanoke, Va.; daughter and son-in-law, Melva McLaughlin and Phil of Denton; grandsons, Joe and Danny Wheeler of Carterville, Ill.; brother, Nolan Wheeler of Moultrie, Ga.; and sisters, Bettie Knighton of Atlanta, Ga., and Katherine Shiver of Tampa, Fla.

Myrtle Lee Worthington was born Feb. 28, 1916, in Malakoff. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Worthington, in 1965.

Goldie V. Anderson
ARLINGTON -- Goldie V. Anderson, 83, a hospital volunteer, died Thursday, June 19, 1997, at a Fort Worth hospital.

Goldie V. Anderson was born Feb. 5, 1914, in Newmine, Pa.

She was a long time member of First United Methodist Church of Fort Worth. She founded the hospital volunteer program at Glenview Hospital in Richland Hills. She was also a volunteer at Carswell Air Force Base Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Col. Charles F. Anderson.

Survivors: Sons, James E. Anderson and his wife, Janice, of Arlington and Charles F. Anderson and his wife, Cindy, of Arlington; brothers, Merle Webster of Arizona; sisters, Gertrude C. Black, Rosanne Reesman and Betty Aschictore, all of Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Michael L. Anderson of Grand Prairie, Amy Bruner of Fort Worth, Holly Franklin of Sugar Land, Kathi Spiewak of Trophy Club and Sharon Glass of Crowley; and great-grandchildren, Steven Glass of Crowley, Ashleigh Bruner, Charles Bruner and T.G. Nell J. Breed
FORT WORTH -- Nell J. Breed, 57, a nurse, died Wednesday, June 11, 1997, at a local hospital.

Nell J. Breed was born March 20, 1940, in Flint, Texas. She had attended Calvary COGIC since 1969 where she served as a church mother on the Mother's Board. She was a highly respected counselor, a former district chairlady of YPWW district and local. She was chairman of the Witness Crusade, a licensed missionary and president of District Mission Circle.

She was a member of the African American Women's Network and a highly respected and admired nurse for many hospitals, TCOM Clinic, Martin Luther King Jr. Clinic and Tarrant County MHMR.

Survivors: Son, Noble George Breed of Fort Worth; mother, Mrs. Warnell Williams of Fort Worth; mother-in-law, Katherine Johnson of Fort Worth; brothers, Hoppie and Lenzy Alexander of Fort Worth, Willie Alexander of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Gary Alexander of Austin; sister, Dorothy Martin of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Dianna, Jamilyn and Blair; one uncle; five aunts; and a host of relatives and friends .
