Bill McBride

Bill McBride, 79, of Baytown, Texas passed away on Monday, Jan. 12, 2009. He was born on Dec. 19, 1929, in Goodrich, TX, to Claudie McBride and Elsie Belcher. Bill graduated from Robert E. Lee High School, attended Lee College and went to work for Humble Oil in 1948. In March of 1951, he proudly joined the US Air Force where he served a total of four years, two years in the Korean War and was stationed on a radar site in Japan. He finished his term in Long Beach, WA. Bill returned to Humble (Exxon) and retired after 41 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Claudie McBride and Elsie Belcher, step-father, Marvin Belcher and sister, Eula Mae Godby. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 plus years, Nina McBride; daughters, Theresa (Teri) Litras and husband Christopher of Newark, OH, and Susan Weger and husband Jeffrey of Highlands, TX; grandchildren, Eric Litras and wife Lisa of Parma, OH, Travis Litras and wife Suzie of Spokane, WA, Jamie Stanbery and husband Jason of Crosby, TX, and Seth Carpenter of Highlands, TX; four great grandsons, Evan and Landon Litras, Owen Litras and Lawson Stanbery.

The family will receive friends on Friday, Jan. 16, 2009, from 6 until 8 pm at Earthman Funeral Home, 3919 Garth Rd. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009, at 11 am, in Earthman’s chapel, with Rev. Don Lewis officiating. Inter-ment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Bay-town.

Pallbearers will be Eric Litras, Travis Litras, Seth Carpenter, Jason Stanbery, Bobby Lee, Mark Lee, John Lee and Lloyd Godby. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Gardner, Walton Scott, Bill Watts and Bobby Lintelman.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. John’s United Methodist Church or a charity of your choice.

Kevin Mikol Schima

Our beloved son Kevin Mikol “Tug” Schima has gone to be with his Nanny and Grandpa on Jan 8, 2009. He was born on July 5, 1991 to Jerry and Kari Schima in Houston, Texas and lived in Pasadena. He attended and was a senior at LaPorte High School. He is survived by his Mother and Father, two sisters Keli Armstrong and husband Jeremy, Kaelyn Cooper and husband Jonathan. He also left 3 nephews Tyler, Aidyn and Sam, 1 niece Abbe, Grand parents are Kelly and Bobbie Elliott of Houston, and Evelyn Schima of The Woodlands. Aunts and Uncles are Kelly, Jr and Thess Elliott, Albert and Kristi Gutierrez, Bob Schima and Richard and Linda Turner, numerous Cousins, Friends and a loving dog Suzie Q. He enjoyed playing baseball and fishing and his days at the ranch and driving around while listening to his music. He will be forever missed and always hold a special place in our hearts. We will always miss his smile. Services will be Monday Jan. 12, 2009 at Bayshore Baptist Church in LaPorte with interment to follow at Grand View Memorial Park with Dr Mark Redd officiating,

Funeral services for Herbert Hamilton Bishop, age 74, of Richards, Texas formerly of Baytown will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at 10 a.m. at Union Grove Baptist Church, 24380 FM 149, Richards, Texas with Reverend Bob Lynch officiating. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Baytown, Texas with a graveside service at 3 p.m. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, January 16, 2009 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Cashner Funeral Home, 801 Teas Road, Conroe, Texas. Herbert was born on April 25, 1934 in Baytown, Texas and passed away on January 15, 2009. He graduated from Cedar Bayou High School in 1953 and was a member of the Cedar Bayou Masonic Lodge #321. Herbert retired from Exxon in 1996. He was a faithful member of Union Grove Baptist Church in Richards, Texas. Herbert was preceded in death by his daughter, Amy McRee; parents, Ernest and Ruth Bishop; and sisters, Jacquelene Clawson and Gladys Martin. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Laverne Bishop of Richards; daughters and sons-in-law, Ramona and Pete Merrill of Crosby, June and Mike Repp of Baytown and Laura and Bob Hinton of Cave Creek, Arizona; son-in-law, Bobby McRee of Cave Creek, Arizona; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren; sister, Susie Mae Jones; brothers and sisters-in-law, Floyd and Louise Bishop, Jake and Martha Bishop and Hebert and Pat Bishop; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Merle and Jerry Blanscet; and best friend, Corky Hodges. Numerous other relatives and friends also survive. Pallbearers will be Corky Hodges, Darrell Jannise, Odell Casey, Glen Cross, Robert Conrad and Bobby Sloan. Honorary pallbearers are Eddie Going, Harlin Schaeffer, Buddy Bender, Lynn Enderli and the deacons of his church.

He was a child of God, a loyal servant of the Lord, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and a friend to many. Herbert will be greatly missed by all.

Stephanie Denise Denham

Stephanie Denise Denham, 41, passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at a hospital in Dallas, TX. She was born May 15, 1967 in Jackson, Mississippi to Dwyn and Kaye Means. She worked for DRS Inferred Technology. Stephanie is survived by her son, Kyle Kelly; daughter, Morgan Miller; father, Dwyn Means and wife Edna; brothers, Louie Means and wife Sheri, Marc Means and wife Anna; sister, Melody Oviedo and husband Will; nieces, Ashliegh Oviedo, Samantha Means; nephews, Garret Oviedo, Michael Means, Connor Means and Collin Means. She was preceded in death by her mother, Kaye Means in 1988. Stephanie will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Visitation will be Saturday, January 17, 2009 from 2pm to 3pm with A Celebration of Life following the visitation at 3pm in the chapel of Fairmont Funeral Home. Burial will be private at Cedarcrest Cemetery in Baytown, Texas.

Mr. Herbert Mays Sr.

Faithful is he that called you, who also will do it. Mr. Herbert Mays Sr. completed his assignment of life on Sunday, January 11, 2009, in Houston Hospice. Herbert spent sixty-four years of his life in Baytown, where he was a member of Greater St. John Baptist Church. He was an active deacon of the church. Herbert worked and retired from Exxon Mobil, of Baytown.

Preceded in death by wife: Bertha Ragston Mays, daughter: Karen L. Mays, mother and father: Willie and Annie Mays, and two brothers. He is survived by daughters: Bertha (Fred) Gray, Deborah (Arthur) Jack, and Arlene Mays all of Houston, Doris Johnson and Helen Thomas of Baytown. Sons: Herbert (Beverly) Mays of Brazoria, and Willie (Renee) Mays of Cypress. Grandchildren fifteen and great-grandchildren six. Other relatives and a host of friends.

John D. Canon

John D. Canon, 81, of Baytown, passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2009 in Nassau Bay.

He was born February 24, 1927 in Goose Creek to his late parents, Monroe D. Canon and Notie Irene Alexander Canon. He was a lifelong resident of the Baytown area, retired Field Maintenance Operator from Exxon after 38 years of service, member of the Central Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. John enjoyed hunting and fishing. Music was a passion and he especially loved playing his harmonica. He shared this talent by playing at church and school activities as well as local nursing homes.

Mr. Canon was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Milton E. Canon and Gerald Canon. Surviv-ors include his wife, Willie Ruth Canon of Baytown; son, Lynn Ross Canon and his wife Pati of Mont Belvieu; daughter, Linda LaBorde and her husband David of League City; brothers, Lanny Canon and his wife Edrie Mae of Magnolia and Glen H. Canon and his wife Rose of Waller; grandchildren, Staci Howell and Matt Howell of Houston and Zach Canon and Dyana Canon of Mont Belvieu and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Matt Howell, Zach Canon, Gary Novosad, Richard Whitaker, Jr., Chris Whitaker, Scott McManus and Mike Novosad. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of Central Baptist Church.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 16, 2009 at Navarre Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Wells officiating. Entombment will follow at Memory Gardens Mausoleum.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 16, 2009 at the funeral home.

Donald W. Jameson

Donald W. Jameson, 81, went to be with his Lord and Saviour on January 8, 2009, after a brief illness. He will be greatly missed by his family and the many friends he made throughout his life. He never met a stranger and was always eager to reach out to those in need. His love and faith in God was evident to all who knew him and was a driving force in all he did. He was born in Vernon, Texas on October 7, 1927. After serving in the Army in WWII and General MacArthur’s Honor Guard, he returned to Texas where he married the love of his life, Betty Hardy. He graduated from the University of Texas in Austin and went to work for the Lubrizol Corporation where in worked for 38 years, retiring in 1992. He is preceded in death by his wife Betty of 46 years who went to be with Lord in 1997.

He is survived by his current wife Patricia, who nurtured and loved him after God joined them together in 2008; his son Jerry and his wife Jan; David and his wife Kaye; grandchildren Austin, Jacob, Caleb, Allyson, and Seth; brother Burel and his wife Joy; and sister Martha and her husband Norman.The funeral service was held on Saturday, January 10, 2009 in New Waverly, Texas, where he was laid to rest beside his first wife of 46 years, Betty Jameson. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Crown Southwest Norris Seminary, PO Box 150707, Ft. Worth, Tx., or the Salvation Army.

Gloria M. Sjolander

Gloria M. Sjolander 82, of Baytown, Texas went to be with the Lord on January 13, 2009. Gloria was born on May 8, 1926 in Baytown, Texas to B.A. and Blanche Dennis. Gloria was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Baytown and has lived in the Baytown area for 82 years where she worked as a book binder and in her spare time she enjoyed painting and spending time with her family. Gloria was a very kind, giving and caring woman who will be missed by all that knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents B.A. and Blanche Dennis, daughter Linda M. Dikeman and sister Wanda Green. She is survived by her son-in-law Ray Dikeman Sr. and wife Joyce, grandson Kelly Ray Dikeman Jr. and wife Mary, grandson Dennis Ray Dikeman and wife Tonya, great grandson Kelly Ray Dikeman III, great grandson Stephen Dikeman, great grandson Dennis Dikeman II, great granddaughter Courtney Dikeman, niece Rhonda Hoffman and husband Bill, nephew James Green and wife Carolyn and many other relatives and friends. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2009 from 3-7 p.m. at Sterling-White Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 16, 2009 10am at Sterling-White Funeral Home with burial following at Sterling-White Cemetery. Ronald Eugene Simmons

Ronald Eugene Simmons, 68, entered God’s presence on Friday, 01-09-2009 in Navasota, TX. Born in Elwood, Indiana, June 13, 1940, Ronnie lived most of his years in Galveston, Pasadena, and Baytown. He joined the Army in 1962. He was a loving and devoted husband in addition to a very proud and caring step-father and grandpa. He attended R.E. Lee High school, briefly owned an ambulance service, worked hard as a custodian for Goose Creek, then went on to Pasadena school district for 16 years. Eventually, he worked in security. Ronnie loved to fish, camp, travel, and spend time with family. He was proceeded in deathby mother Lucille Simmons and father Virgil Humerick-house. He is survived by wife, Mary Teresa Morrison Simmons and her daughters with their spouses; Kelly and Kevin Pierce, Lisa and Chris Whitaker, and Kerry and Chuck Rickard. Grandchildren: Kegan and Cody Thompson, Drew and Zachary Whitaker, and Hunter, Christian, and Jayden Rickard; Sister: Gay King and husband Hardine King; Nieces Tanisha (Tish) King, Tatiana and Chance Hooper; Great niece and nephew Annalise and Gage Hooper; His beloved dog; Daisy and a host of other loved ones and friends. The Memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church of Highlands on Thursday, 1-15-09 at 10:30AM.

Joseph Edward Matthews

Long-time Mont Belvieu community leader, conservationist, and sportsman Joseph Edward Matthews died at age 95 on Sunday, January 11, 2009 in Mont Belvieu, TX. A Memorial service will be held at 12:00 Noon Thursday, January 15, 2009 at the Mont Belvieu United Methodist Church with Rev. Jamie Lea and Rev. James F. Jackson officiating. A private interment will be held before the service. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at Navarre Funeral Home.
Joe’s community service spanned 50 years. He was elected to Barbers Hill School Board in 1946 and served 17 years, 9 as president. He was a director of Water Control and Improvement District in the 40’s, and served on the city council 1973-77 and 1980-81. He was a staunch advocate for wetlands, successfully organizing a campaign opposing the establishment of a Wallisville Reservoir Project in the 60’s. He was a sportsman for 75 years, enjoying fishing on Trinity Bay and duck hunting in his beloved Trinity River Bottom, having formed the Pickett’s Bayou Hunt Club with two of his best friends. He spent 40 years with Exxon, retiring in 1978. During his years at Exxon he worked in Baytown and overseas in South Africa, Sweden, Japan, and Greece, in charge of plant startups and instrumentation departments. He also spent several years in California bringing a plant on line. He wrote instrumentation training manuals and videos that were used for teaching all Exxon employees how instrumentation worked in the plant. These were still in use in the late 90’s.

Mr. Matthews was born in Mont Belvieu, TX on July 4, 1913. He was the valedictorian of Robert E. Lee High School in Baytown, and attended Rice University until he met his beloved Anna Lee. Joe E. Matthews Community Park in Mont Belvieu is named for him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Cartright and Selina Bayless Matthews and four sisters. He is survived by his wife, Anna Lee Stakes Matthews, a son, Guy Matthews and his wife Carolyn of Houston, granddaughter, Kelly Gerber, her husband Carl and their sons Jason and Jeff, a granddaughter Heather Camfield, her husband Paul, son Ramsey Al-Azem and daughter Carter Camfield, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Special thanks are extended to caregivers Betty Gresham, Sharon Johnson, Mary Russell, Patricia Frazier and Beverly Williams.

Frank L. Sanders, 60, of Baytown, passed away January 7, 2009 at his home. He was born January 29, 1948 to Marvin and Mae Sanders. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Emma Sanders; children, Keith, Shakena Hall and Denise Samuels, and eight siblings.

Lawrence M. Hayes

Lawrence M. Hayes, 88, of Baytown was born to Lawrence McKinley Hayes and Mary Claudien Hayes on October 8, 1920 in Knoxville, TN and passed away Friday, January 9, 2009 in a local healthcare facility. He was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, where he was a Sunday School Teacher and MYF leader. He was a Troop #96 Boy Scout Leader. He went to work for Humble Oil and Refining in 1945 and retired April 1, 1987 and was an Exxon Annuitant. He was a U. S. Army Air Corps veteran, serving in WWII from August 19, 1942 until August 19, 1945.

He was preceded by his parents and is survived by his wife of 66 years, Orlean Schoppe Hayes; son and daughter-in-law, Vernon and Wilma Hayes; daughters and son-in-law, Kathy and Royce Williams and Cindy Wolf; grandchildren and their spouses, Scott Witt, Timmy and Laura Hayes, Michael and Ann Hayes, Deke and Connie Witt, Jason and LaDonna Smith, Heather and Jody Phillips and Joshua Wolf; and 14 great grandchildren.

His family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services with military honors will be Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Navarre Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Proctor officiating. At his request, his body will be cremated afterwards.

Miguel G. Lopez went to be with the Lord at 8:44PM on Friday, January 9, 2009. Miguel was born August 25, 1937, in Robstown, Texas, to Audencio and Juanita Lopez. He retired after 34 years of service in the food industry as a Market Manager. Mr. Lopez was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Miguel was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Domingo Zepeda. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Alicia Lopez; daughters: Diana Gonzalez and husband, Abe, of El Paso, TX; Norma Mitchell, of Crosby, TX; Dahlia Marshall and husband, Paul, of Mt. Belvieu, TX; Janie Lopez, of Baytown, TX; and Ruby Rush and husband, Scott, of Baytown, TX; son, Miguel S. Lopez, of Baytown, TX; 13 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and sisters: Mary Ramirez, Alicia Cardona and brother Armando Zepeda. Betty Jean Krampota Brister 70, of Crosby, Texas passed away January 8, 2009 in Baytown, Texas. Betty was born on June 13, 1938 in Crosby, Texas to Henry and Bessie (Vrana) Krampota. Betty has lived in the Crosby area all of her life and when she wasn’t busy taking care of her family she enjoyed working outside, gardening, fishing, hunting, music and spending time with her family. Betty was a very caring and loving woman who never met a stranger and she will be missed by all that knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents Henry and Bessie Krampota, brother Henry Krampota Jr. and sister Ruby Wright. She is survived by her husband of 12 years Kenneth Brister, son Darrel Bonin, son Kenneth Bonin and wife Kathy, granddaughter Kathryn Bonin and husband Larry Foster, granddaughter Kristine Bonin and husband Gabriel Martinez, great granddaughter Kiley Martinez, Aunt Marie Krampota and many other relatives and friends.
