FORT WORTH -- Fontainette Woods Davis, 66, retired executive director of Sickle Cell Anemia of Texas, died Tuesday, July 8, 1997, at her Rolling Hills home.

Funeral: The celebration of her life will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Community Christian Church, 1800 E. Vickery. The Rev. Alfred Dotson, pastor, will be the lead celebrant. He will be assisted by Dr. B.L. McCormick, Dr. L.B. George and Dr. McKinley Jackson. Burial: Cedar Hill Memorial Park. Visitation: 9 to 5 p.m. at Gregory W. Spencer Funeral Directors. Family hour: Her husband, the Rev. Robert Davis; son, Ronald Thomas; and the entire family welcome your presence at the family hour Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Pauline Minor Chapel of the funeral home.

Pallbearers: The bier will be borne by the honorable Louis Sturns, Vernell Sturns, Riley Sturns, Gerrod Anderson, Devoyd Jennings, Charles Collins, Will Clay and Dennis Rose.

Fontainette Woods Davis was born in Cameron. She served as executive director of Sickle Cell Anemia of Texas until her retirement in 1995.

Joe B. Echols
FORT WORTH -- Joe B. Echols, 86, a retired welding instructor and consultant, died Tuesday, July 8, 1997, in Fort Worth after a brief illness.

Funeral: 11 a.m. Friday at South Park Baptist Church. Burial: Laurel Land Memorial Park. Visitation: 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Laurel Land Funeral Home of Fort Worth.

Memorials: American Heart Association.

Joe B. Echols was born Oct. 25, 1910, in Rendon. He was a member of South Park Baptist Church and Hemphill Heights Masonic Lodge 1164 and was a third-degree Mason. He taught Masonary for many years.

Mr. Echols was employed for 15 years as a welding leadman with Chicago Pneumatic Tool Co. in Fort Worth. He retired in 1979 as a welding instructor and consultant with Globe Oil Tool Co. of Fort Worth. He was a member of the International Association of Machinists (IAM Local 324).

Survivors: His wife of 67 years, Maggie Echols of Fort Worth; son, Calvin Roy Echols and his wife, Essie, of Fort Worth; granddaughters, Karen Denise Kimberling of Fort Worth and Leslie Elizabeth Echols-Pitts of Colleyville; and great- grandsons, Roman and Crawford Kimberling.

David Greene Erwin was born Feb. 12, 1939, in Fort Worth and was a lifelong resident. He attended Paschal High School and Texas Tech and was the star running back at both schools. He loved boating and golf. Mr. Erwin was a member of Travis Avenue Baptist Church, Ridglea Country Club and the TCU Frog Club.

Survivors: His wife, Patti Erwin; sons, David Erwin Jr. and his wife, Kirstin, of New Orleans and Mike Erwin of Austin; daughter, Shannon Tabor and her husband, Chris, of Fort Worth; stepson, Todd Spitz of Weatherford; stepdaughter, Tammi Benware and her husband, Jimmy, of Weatherford; brother, Harry Erwin Jr. and his wife, Ruth, of Burleson; sister, Nancy Savage of Taylor; grandchildren, Mitchell Greene Erwin of New Orleans and Natalie and Emily Tabor of Fort Worth; stepgrandson, Cody Benware of Weatherford; and nephews, John Erwin and his wife, Carey, of Newport Beach, Calif. and Jeff Erwin and his wife, Chris, of Weatherford.

Joe Gilley was born May 10, 1908, in Parker County, Texas. He was married to Gladys Wright for 62 years. Mr. Gilley was a longtime member of Silver Creek United Methodist Church, where he served as Sunday school teacher for many years.

Survivors: Wife, Gladys Gilley of Azle; daughter and son-in-law, Lana and Roy Chance of Azle; granddaughters and grandsons-in-law, Leanne and Michael Mathis of Weatherford and Laurie and James Smith of Azle; and brother, Ray Gilley of Aspermont.

Vola Mae Gorrell
WEATHERFORD -- Vola Mae Kimbrell Gorrell, 88, a retired supervisor for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co., died Tuesday, July 8, 1997, at a local nursing home.

Graveside service: 11 a.m. Friday in Springtown Cemetery.

Vola Mae Kimbrell Gorrell was born Aug. 25, 1908, in Boyd.

Mrs. Gorrell was raised in Springtown and moved to Fort Worth in 1926. She was a retired operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Fort Worth for more than 65 years.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, J.E. Kimbrell in 1959 and C.J. Gorrell in 1993, and six brothers and sisters.

Survivors: Son, Robbie Kimbrell and his wife, Mary, of Weatherford; grandchildren, Kim Day, Karen Kimbrell and Robert Kimbrell; four great- grandchildren; nieces, Johnnie Helen James of Justin and Ann Copeland and Judy Bernard of Florida; and other nephews.

Nellie Hatcher was born April 3, 1942, in Whitewright. She had lived in the area for the past 35 years and was a member of Christ Temple Church of God in Christ.

Survivors: Husband, David Hatcher of Fort Worth; son and daughter-in-law, Nicole Renee Hatcher and Tyrone Collins of Fort Worth; brother, Tommy Williams of Fort Worth; sisters, Shirley Brown of Dallas and Ruth Spratt of Sherman; grandchild, Xavier Collins of Fort Worth; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and many friends.
