Willard Calvin Shady
MANSFIELD -- Willard Calvin Shady, 58, a retired shift supervisor for General Motors, died Monday, July 14, 1997, in Fort Worth.

Funeral: 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Moore Funeral Home. Visitation: 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Cal was born on Oct. 25, 1938, in Kingstree County, S.C., and moved to Texas in the late 1950s. He was an employee of General Motors assembly plant in Arlington for 281/2 years, working his way from assembly engineer to general shift supervisor before his retirement in April 1992. He received several credits or letters of commendation for outstanding employee, the Perfect Attendance Award, supporter of civic involvement program and the leadership awards.

Before his employment with General Motors, Cal served in the Air Force and loved his country.

Cal attended New Hope Baptist Church and loved his golf.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Shady Sr. and Louise Floyd Shady, and his brother, Harry Shady.

Survivors: Wife of 38 years, Shirley Shady of Mansfield; sons, Nick Shady of Belton, S.C., and Cary Shady and his wife, Christy, of Arlington; granddaughter, Corinne Shady; daughter, Denise Hand of Huntsville, Ala.; grandchildren, Ashley and Bryan Hand; and sisters, Lorine Gaillard of Hollyhill, S.C., and Ollie Ridgeway of Goosecreek, S.C. He was loved by a host of friends.

Floyd Odell Shelton
AUSTIN -- Floyd Odell Shelton, 89, passed away Saturday, July 12, 1997, at his home in Austin.

Memorial service: 11 a.m. Friday at Lakeway Ecumenical Church with the Rev. Tom A. Carroll officiating.

Floyd Odell Shelton was born Dec. 6, 1907, on the Waggonner Ranch near Harrold in Wilbarger County. He eventually moved to Fort Worth, where he attended public schools, graduating from North Side High School in 1925.

He was employed from 1925 to April 1, 1963, at the Fort Worth National Bank, the last 33 years in the Trust Department. At retirement (10 years early) and for many years prior thereto he was vice president and senior trust officer in charge of the Trust Department and was a member of the bank's trust and investment committees. While at Fort Worth National, Mr. Shelton was instrumental in the creation of the banking industry's first Trust Farm & Ranch Management Division and Trust Oil, Gas & Mineral Management Division. He also was involved in drafting many portions of what is now referred to as the Texas Trust Code, as well as creating the first Bank Common Trust Fund in Texas.

He was a past chairman of the Trust Section of the Texas Bankers Association; a former member of Common Trust Fund and Executive committees of the American Bankers Association Trust Division; and the first chairman of the Retirement System Committee of the Texas Bankers Association, a position he held for many years. In 1976, he was the initial recipient of the "Outstanding Trust Man" award presented by the Texas Bankers Association Trust Financial Services Division in recognition of his outstanding lifetime achievements and contributions to the Texas trust industry.

After retiring from the bank, Mr. Shelton was resident superintendent of Broseco Ranch in Titus, Morris and Cass counties in Northeast Texas from April 1, 1963, through November 1965.

Coming out of retirement again, Mr. Shelton served from Aug. 1, 1966, to Jan. 1, 1973, as vice chancellor for investments, trusts and lands for the University of Texas System. In that capacity, he and his staff were responsible for the management of all earning assets of the U.T. System and its component institutions, and for the sale and servicing of all bonds issued for construction purposes. Earning assets included 2.1 million acres of land in 19 West Texas counties, the Permanent University Fund, miscellaneous trusts and other funds given to the university.

Coming out of retirement a third and final time, Mr. Shelton served as senior trust consultant for City National Bank of Austin from January 1973 to December 1978.

Mr. Shelton was a member of the Texas State Bar Association (since 1936) and the American Bar Association. He was a former president and charter member of the Downtown Optimist Club of Fort Worth, a former board member and president of the Fort Worth Children's Hospital, and was for many years the treasurer of the Longhorn Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

Survivors: Wife, the former Anita Senter, with whom he recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary; daughter, Mrs. Ann S. Ellinghausen and her husband, Robert, of Wimberley; son, James R. Shelton and his wife, Leslie, of Lakeway; grandchildren, Laurie Ellinghausen of Santa Barbara, Calif., David Ellinghausen of San Marcos, Craig Shelton and Ron Shelton, both of Austin, Wade Shelton of San Marcos and Clay Foor of Lakeway; and sisters, Lillie Shelton Bozeman and Ina Mae Cornell of Fort Worth.

Bobbie Jean Stepp
CLEBURNE -- Bobbie Jean Stepp, 69, a retired clerk for the Central Appraisal District in Cleburne, died Sunday, July 13, 1997, in Fort Worth.

Lee H. Stevenson
WEATHERFORD -- Lee H. Stevenson, 83, a retired National Life Insurance vice president, died Monday, July 14, 1997, in Weatherford.

Funeral: 10 a.m. Thursday at Cotten- Bratton Funeral Home. Burial: Greenwood Memorial Park in Fort Worth.

Lee H. Stevenson was born Sept. 30, 1913, in the Whitt community. He was a native of Parker County. After graduation from high school, he attended Weatherford College and Baylor University. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army in the South Pacific. In 1978, he retired as vice president of National Life Insurance in Nashville, Tenn. He was a member of Bellmont Heights Baptist Church in Nashville, Tenn. Mr. and Mrs. Stevenson celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary March 13, 1997.

Survivors: Wife, Joyce Heady Stevenson; sister, Marcelle Stevenson Wadley of Graham; sisters-in-law, Lota Holmes Hale of Weatherford and Reural Heady Bailey of Fort Worth; and two nieces and nephews.

Gladys Powell Walker
CLEBURNE -- Gladys Powell Walker, 71, a homemaker, died Monday, July 14, 1997, at home in Cleburne.

Graveside service: 10 a.m. Thursday in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Fort Worth.

Known to everyone as Jackie, Gladys Powell Walker was born May 25, 1926, in Salem, Va., where she was raised. Jackie had one brother and four sisters. She met her husband, Ronald Walker, when he was stationed in Virginia while in the Navy. After marrying Ronald, she came to Texas and lived in the Metroplex. Jackie had two primary loves in her life, her family and animals, especially cats. She was a strong supporter of the Humane Society. Jackie was also a gifted artistic person who loved to decorate, make crafts and work with plants. She was the core who held her family together with her love and her gifts.

Survivors: Husband, Ronald A. Walker of Cleburne; sons, Phillip A. Arnn of Arlington and David R. Walker of Cleburne; daughters, Ronna Walker of Anna and Melinda B.
