Mark Alan Denton

Mark Alan Denton, age 44 of Alvin, Texas passed away Sunday, February 22, 2009 at his residence. Mark was born on January 22, 1965 in Downey, California and was a resident of Alvin for 2 years.

Mark is survived by his mother, Carol Heinrich of Alvin, Texas, father, Eugene Denton of Houston, Texas, grandmother, Jean Pickett of Redlands, California, brother, Michael Eugene Denton of Alvin, Texas, aunt, Sandy Pickett of Redlands, California, uncle, David Pickett of Canyon Lake, California and numerous other relatives and friends.

W.J. (Bo) Thurman

W.J. (Bo) Thurman was born to the late Percy Thurman and Esther Skinner, on May 9, 1925 in Attala County, Mississippi. He departed this life February 28, 2009 @ 12:15 a.m. He was married to the late Annie C. Riley. To this union (2) sons were born, W.S.(Jr.) and Joe Nathian. Both preceded him in death.

In 1955 Mr. Thurman was marries to Pauline Ashley were they resided in Brandon, Mississippi. Mr. Thurman served in the U.S. Navy from 1943--1946. He was in employed with United Gas Pipe Line Company(Centerpoint) for 32 years as a Chart Changer. In 1961 Centerpoint Engtery transfered him from Brandon, Mississippi to Deer Park, TX. He resided in Baytown, TX. where he retired with Centerpoint Entergy. He leaves his loving wife of 57 years, Mrs. Pauline Thurman, (3) daughters; Odell Roundtree of Channelview, TX., Maggie Sowells of Dayton, TX, Faye(Leonard) Harman of Brandon, Mississippi.

Services will be held @ Robey Funeral Home, 403 W. Sterling, Baytown, TX. 77520.

Visitation is Friday, March 6, from 5--7p.m. & Funeral is Saturday, March 7 @ 11a.m.

Rosa L. (Odie) Roquemore

Rosa L. (Odie) Roquemore, known to many in her family as “Mema, ” passed away March 2, 2009, at Crestview Nursing Home in Belton, TX. Born in Victoria, TX, Oct. 30, 1916, to Joseph and Alfa Wroten, she was the 10th of 13 children.

Odie spent her early years on a farm, and marveled in her later years that she got to see so much of the world. She lived at various times in Fort Worth, TX, Kansas; Monroe, LA; and for a brief time in Los Angeles, CA; but she spent most of her life in Baytown, TX. During the years after her children left the nest, she traveled with her husband Rocky to Mexico, Canada and a number of countries in Europe and Africa. She was the matriarch of a large and loving family and the center of a vibrant social circle at her house on Wright Blvd. in Baytown. Odie was a beautiful seamstress and artist for many years. For several years, she was the owner and operator of Rhythm Music Company in downtown Baytown. She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church for over 40 years.

She was preceded in death by two of her sons, Arthur Hansen III and David Dillon; husbands, Arthur Hansen, Clarence Dillon, Otis Baughman and Claude (Rocky) Roquemore; siblings, Seth, Edith, Vernon, Cecil, Eenon, Mildred, Dorothy, Josephine, Irma (Blanch), Fay and Joseph.

She is survived by her brother, Leo Wroten and his wife Leona of Houston; sons, Rodger Dillon of Sacramento, CA, and C. R. (Rocky) Roquemore and wife Barbara of Salado, TX; daughter-in-law, Reni Hansen of Leslie, MI; grandchildren, Lisa Bone and husband Lysander of Marietta, GA, Cyndee Henderson and husband Brooks of Concan, TX, Scott Hansen and wife Brenda of Little Rock, AR, Mackenzie Dillon of Sacramento, CA, Lindsey Dillon of Sacramento, CA, Blake Dillon of Las Vegas, NV, Shane Dillon of Henderson, NV, Kim Cathriner and husband Ed of Salado, TX and Janci Coker of Belton, TX, as well as numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and her treasured friend Noodie Waddell.

Dearest Odie/Mom/ Mema, you were the source of a great love and upright moral code that gave so many of us strength in life and a direction for our endeavors. We will miss you so much. May you find Peace in Jesus and the Heaven of your faith.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 4, 2009, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., at Earthman Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 5, 2009, at Memorial Baptist Church, 600 W. Sterling, with Rev. Brad Hoffman officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Scott Hansen, Lysander Bone, Brooks Henderson, Blake Dillon, Ed Cathriner and William Beardmore. Honorary pallbearers will be Leo Wroten and Bebo Waddell.

The family would like to thank all of the caregivers from Swam Manor in Baytown and Crestview Nursing Home in Belton, and others for their love and care for our Mema.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.

Larry Eikhoff

Larry Eikhoff, 61, was born June 18, 1947 in Highland Park, Michigan and passed away February 28, 2009 in Houston, Texas. He is survived by his son Jared Eikhoff; step-children, Carl Wilkinson and wife Adriana, Carla Wilkinson; grandchildren, Hagen, Riley, Maddox, Bud, Deija; his mother Ruth; sister Luanne Eikhoff; and brother, Donald Eikhoff and wife Kathy.. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 6, 2009 at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, 77038. Claire Brothers / Riley Smith

Clois Lee Simpson

Clois Lee Simpson, 67, went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 27, 2009. He is preceded in death by: his loving wife of 47 years Phyllis Simpson; parents Myrtle and Walter Simpson; Siblings, Earl Simpson and Betty Henderson and father-in-law, James A. Douglass.

He is survived by: daughter Karri McIntyre and husband Curt of Sugar Land; granddaughter Britni; special mother-in-law Sylvan Douglass; Walter and Dorothy Simpson, Allene Gibbs, Floyd and Patsy Simpson, Billie Walker and her late husband Curtis, Charlie and Nita Wilkinson; twin sister, Lois Shmidl and husband Robert.

Clois was born in Pennington, TX and later moved to Baytown in 1945. He graduated from R.E.L. in 1960 and later opened and operated his own Exxon station in Pelly from 1964-1984. He then worked for Superior Lincoln Mercury in Automotive Services. He enjoyed fishing, camping and cars.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday February 4, 2009 at noon at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home.

Mary Ann Holub

Mary Ann Holub 82, of Highlands, Texas went to be with the Lord on February 26, 2009.

Mary was born on August 11, 1926 in Shiner, Texas to Louis and Mary (Hucek) Roeder.

Mary has lived in the Highlands area for 33 years and was a member of ST. Judes Catholic Church in Highlands. Mary worked as courtesy booth manager for a local grocery store for many years and when she wasn’t busy working she was very active with several organizations in the community such as the young at hearts, St. Judes Dudes and the American legion and VFW ladies auxiliary. Some of her hobbies were playing dominoes, bingo, traveling, cooking, fishing and spending time with her family. Mary was a very caring and kind woman who will be missed by all that knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents Louis and Mary Roeder, brother Ed Roeder, brother Joe Roeder, brother Johnny Roeder, brother Louis Roeder, brother James Roeder and sister Anne Breth.

She is survived by her loving husband of 33 years Raymond Holub, daughter Melinda St. Clair and husband Dowe, brother Tony Roeder and wife Ann, sister Lillian Wagner, sister Pauline Mooney, granddaughter Amanda Otten and husband Eric and many other relatives and friends.

A visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday, March 3, 2009 from 5-8pm with a rosary at 7pm.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 4, 2009 10am at Sterling-White Funeral Home with graveside services following at 2pm at Greenlawn Cemetery in Rosenberg Texas.

Services have been entrusted to Sterling-White Funeral Home 11011 Crosby-Lynchburg Rd. Highlands, Texas 77562.

Janet Ruth Thompson

Janet Ruth Thompson, 75, of Baytown was born November 6, 1933 in Houston and passed away Sunday, March 1, 2009 in a local hospital. She was a member of Second Baptist Church and the Texas Polio Survivor’s Association, Inc.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Thompson and son, Douglas Thompson. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Joanie Hessler of Hurrucane, WV; daughter and son-in-law, Tricia and Walt Nolan of Baytown; brother and sister-in-law, Robert George and Jeannine Fletcher of Normangee; sister-in-law, Mavis Smith of Rockport; grandchildren, Cory Hessler, Eric and Tracey Nolan and Sara and Bryan Tucker; great grandson, Devin Nolan; and special caregiver, Carrell Varnell.

Her family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Monday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Navarre Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Burroughs officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.

William “Bill” Arthur Baird

William “Bill” Arthur Baird, of Channelview, passed away on Friday, February 27, 2009, at the age of 62, after a lengthy illness.

Always a hard worker, Bill started working after school, at the age of 14. In 1968, he was drafted to the U.S. Army. While at Chemical Corps School in Fort McClellan, Alabama, he met the love of his life, Myra, on a blind date. They were married in 1969.

After the completion of his military duty in 1970, Bill returned to Houston and his previous job at Gulf Oxygen Co. Bill soon became a member of Teamster Local 1111. Bill eventually worked for and retired from the Port Terminal Railroad Association. He enjoyed family vacations and traveling, visiting 26 states and 8 countries throughout his lifetime. His favorite trip was to the Virgin Islands. When he was younger, he loved to hunt and fish and enjoyed barbecuing with the Bayou Boys Cookers at Rodeo time. He was a lifetime member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Association. Bill later became interested in restoring antique cars and was a member of the Bayou City Cruisers and North Houston Street Rod car clubs. He also had an appreciation for nature and wildlife, and took pleasure watching the deer at his home-away-from-home in Bandera, Texas.

Preceding him in death are his father Wallace, mother Hazel, and brother James. Bill is survived by his wife of 39 years, Myra Baird; his daughter Cheryl Dollins and her husband Dan; his daughter Bobbie Cumpston and her husband Jeremy; son in his heart James Siros and his wife Melinda; four grandchildren, Emily, KJ, Cade, and Cole; 1 nephew and 7 nieces.

Friends are invited to visitation from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 2, 2009 at Navarre Funeral Home in Baytown. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at Old River Terrace United Methodist Church, 16102 East Fwy., in Channelview. Interment will follow in San Jacinto Memorial Park in Houston.

The family expresses a heartfelt thanks to the staff at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, and to Josh Farmer for assistance with care giving. Contributions in his memory may be directed to the Multiple Myeloma Foundation.

Joy Mae Dillinger

Joy Mae Dillinger, 68, passed away Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009, surrounded by her loving family. Born on March 10, 1940, to Edward and Kathrine Gordon in New Lenox, Illinois. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

Joy is preceeded in death by her parents Edward and Kathrine Gordon, three brothers, one sister and one son. She is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Willard E. Dillinger of Baytown; three daughters, Debra Frickey of Baytown, Sophie and husband, Royce, Battarbee of Baytown, and Betty Joe and husband, Joseph, Gribben of Baytown; one son, Gordon Sporluck and wife, Carolyn of Alabama; one sister, Mary Schwartz of Baytown, two sisters and two brothers of Illinois; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Also survived by other family members and a host of friends.

Special thank you to Faith Community Hospice and especially Joyce Stemly R.N. Joy will dearly be missed. Graveside service will be held at La Porte Cemetery on Monday, March 2, 2009 at 11 a.m. Officiating chaplain, Yvonne Battle.

Johnnie Little

Johnnie Little, 89, of Baytown, passed away Saturday, February 28, 2009 at a local health-care facility.

She was born March 23, 1919, in Dayton to her late parents, Francis Washington Cotton and Della McWhorter Cotton, lived in Baytown since 1978 and was a member of Grace Bible Church.

Johnnie was preceded in death by her parents, son, Don Little; brothers, Bud Cotton, Ruben Cotton, Douglas Cotton, Ernest Cotton and Clarence Cotton; sister, Alice Cone and a grandson, William Harold Holdgraf.

She is survived by her husband, Harold Little; daughters, Brenda Dell Little and Stella Holley and her husband Allen and daughter-in-law, Lillian Little all of Baytown; sister, Bertha McShan of Dayton, brother, Frank Cotton and his wife Betty of West Columbia; grandchildren, Mark Little, Shana Goolsby, Ray Hicks and Kimberly Hamm; great-grandchildren, Bradley Knight, Brittany Ham, Kayla White, Abbie Goolsby, Andrew Little, McKenna Little, Tucker Ray Little, Scarlett Garcia and Hunter Hicks, great-great-grandchildren, Layla White, Shyla White, Hanna White and Kayda Love Knight as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, March 2, 2009 at White Cemetery in Highlands with Pastor Roy Cloudt officiating.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 Noon, Monday, March 2, 2009 at Navarre Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Ray Hicks, John Goolsby, Mark Little, Shaun White, Andrew Little and Bob Crunk.
