Burgess Merrifield
FORT WORTH -- Burgess Merrifield, 16, a junior at Crowley High School, died Saturday July 19, 1997, from injuries received in an automobile accident near Sweetwater.

Funeral: 10 a.m. Tuesday at The Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints on Alta Mesa Dr., in Fort Worth. Graveside services: 3 p.m. Tuesday in Albany Cemetery in Albany. Bishop Brent Petersen will officiate the services.

Pallbearers: Jim Merrifield, Judson Petty, Cass Towns, Marcus Tolman, Richard King and Josh Green.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Boy Scouts of America, Longhorn Council and Cook Children's Medical Center.

Burgess Merrifield was born March 26, 1981, in Little Rock, Ark.

He died in a one-car accident near Sweetwater while returning from Philmont Boy Scouts Camp. He was a member of the Crowley High School varsity football team. He was a Life Scout and very close to being an Eagle Scout. He was also a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Survivors: Parents, John and Skylar Merrifield; brothers, Will and John Jr. Merrifield; sister, Matilda Merrifield; maternal grandmother, Matilda Nail Peeler, all of Fort Worth; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Arthur of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; numerous cousins; and other relatives.

Wilma Grace Miller
FORT WORTH -- Wilma Grace Miller, 83, a nurse, died Saturday, July 19, 1997, at a nursing home.

Graveside service: 10 a.m. Wednesday in Crowley Cemetery.

Wilma Miller was born Oct. 17, 1913, in Vineyard.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ira C. Miller, on Dec. 7, 1971.

Survivors: Sisters, Sybil Weldon of Fort Worth and Mary Eva Houston of Cleburne; and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephew.

BURLESON -- James H. Pilkington, 93, a federal government land surveyor who retired in 1974, died Sunday, July 20, 1997, in Fort Worth.

James Pilkington was born May 16, 1904, in Burleson. He was a member of Oakgrove Baptist Church.

Weldon Leon Polk
FORT WORTH -- Weldon Leon Polk, 69, retired foreman of underground utilities for Steed Inc. for 45 years, died Sunday, July 20, 1997, at his home.

Funeral: 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Brown, Owens & Brumley. Officiating will be the Rev. Don Connell. Burial: McDonald Cemetery in Bowie. Visitation: 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Weldon Leon Polk was born Dec. 18, 1927, in Stoneburg. He served in the Korean War. He was a member of Lakeland Street Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing and traveling.

Mr. Polk was preceded in death by his first wife, Joy Underwood Polk; his father, Hubert L. Polk; his mother, Minnie Polk; a sister, LaNell Gibson; and a brother, Wayne Polk.

Survivors: Wife of 12 years, Eddie Marie Polk of Fort Worth; daughter and her husband, Regina and Larry Sanders of Fort Worth; stepson, Walter Cain of Weatherford; stepdaughters and their husbands, Connie and Cleve Smithers and Sharon and Doug Hamerman, all of Weatherford; brothers, Kenneth Polk and Raymond Polk, both of Bowie; sister, Betty Huddleston of Waco; and stepgrandchildren, Duane and Clinton Hamerman and Casey and Cassie Smithers.

DECATUR -- Thomas Martin Shelton, 80, a retired `Houston Chronicle' employee, died Sunday, July 20, 1997, at a Decatur convalescent center.

Thomas Martin Shelton was born June 13, 1917, in Excelsior Springs, Mo. He was a commercial artist for the `Houston Post' and `Houston Chronicle.' Mr. Shelton was a member of Macedonia United Methodist Church in Waller County and was an Army veteran.

Survivors: Wife, Melva Jo Shelton of Flomot; brother, Trigg Shelton of Denver, Colo.; and sister, Hazel Bennett of Belton, Mo.

Ethel Easter Smith was born June 11, 1913, in Ellis County.

She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in San Angelo. She lived in San Angelo since 1953 and moved to Fort Worth in March, 1997. She was a member of Eastern Star Lodge in Everman.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Smith.

Survivors: Sons and daughters-in- law, Howard LaRoy and Kay Easter of Granbury and Larry and Pat Easter of Granbury; stepson, Robert Smith of Tyler; daughters and sons-in-law, Zonita and Walter Thompson of Fort Worth and Barbara and Charles S. Bowker of Austin; brother, Glen Evans of Burleson; sisters, Ola Belle Burns of Fort Worth, Lollie Jones of Fort Worth, Terrye Hawkins of Colleyville and Judy Givens of San Antonio; seven grandchildren; four great- grandchildren; and one great-great- granddaughter.

Patrick H. "Pat" Thompson was born April 12, 1922, in Johnson County.

He grew up in the Alvarado/Grandview area. He lived in Fort Worth after returning from the Air Force in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his parents, H.P. Thompson and Jeffie McGowen Thompson; sister, Martha V. Patrick; and brother, Jimmy L. Thompson.

Survivors: Wife, Jean Bush Thompson of Fort Worth; and nephews, Eugene Patrick of Arlington and Robert L. Patrick of Athens.
