FORT WORTH -- Shirley Clark, 43, a Fort Worth Star-Telegram billing manager, died Saturday, August 2, 1997, in Dallas.

Funeral: noon Tuesday at Laurel Land Funeral Home of Fort Worth. Burial: Laurel Land Memorial Park of Fort Worth. Visitation: 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.

Pallbearers: Keith Clark, Kevin Clark, Shane Millsap, Scott Millsap, Ralph Hailey and Monty Sanders.

Shirley Clark was born Dec. 22, 1953, in Fort Worth. She was preceded in death by her sister, Cathy Cooley in September of 1996.

At the `Star-Telegram , she had worked as a verification clerk, billing supervisor, rate specialist and billing manager.

Survivors: Husband, Charlie Clark of Fort Worth; sons, Terry McCreery of Fort Worth; daughters and sons-in-law, Rhonda and John Margotta, Regina and Donald Powell and Vicki Clark, all of Fort Worth; mother and step-father, Barbara and Jim Pugh of Winnsboro; brother, Edwin Rogers of Winnsboro; step- brother, Mike Pugh of Canton; step- sisters, Phillis and Debbie Pugh of Athens, Texas; grandchildren, John, Courtney, Haylie, Dyllan and Zoe; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Lee Warren Holdridge
De LEON -- Lee Warren Holdridge, 90, A retired mortician, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 1997, at a nursing home.

Funeral:10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church. Burial: De Leon Cemetery.

Mr. Holdridge was born Nov. 8, 1906, in the Downing Community, and had been a De Leon resident all of his life. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in De Leon. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, Board of Stewards and De Leon School Board in 1945. He married Mildred Whitlow Holdridge on June 28, 1928, in the Van Dyke Community. She preceded him in death on Feb. 16, 1994.

Survivors: Son, Joe Wayne Holdridge and wife, Diane of Albuquerque, N.M.; daughter, Ermilee Hollingsworth and husband, Grant of Grapevine; three brothers, Marvin Holdridge of Comanche, W.C. Holdridge and Fred Holdridge, both of De Leon; grandchildren, Lori Tonder and husband, Jim of Hermosa Beach, Calif., Amy Birney and husband, Neil of Anderson, S.C., Matt Hollingsworth and wife, Sarah of Dallas; great-grandchildren, Travis and Logan Tonder of Hermosa Beach, Diane and Justin Birney of Anderson, and Noel and Claire Hollingsworth of Dallas.

Harry Lindsey was born Oct. 23, 1930, in Fresno, Calif. He was a member of Hallmark Baptist Church.

Edward A. Luke Sr.
FORT WORTH -- Edward A. Luke Sr., M.D., 85, a retired family practice physician, died Thursday, July 31, 1997, at home.

Memorial service: 11 a.m. Monday at St. Luke's in the Meadow Episcopal Church.

Memorials: UNT Health Science Center/TCOM Foundation or Longhorn Council, BSA-Memorial Fund or East Side Regional Library.

Edward A. Luke Sr., M.D., was born Aug. 2, 1911, in Louisiana. He graduated from the University of Illinois and earned his medical degree from the University of Illinois Medical School in 1937 and was a resident at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. He served as a major in World War II in the Army Air Forces in the Pacific. He entered private medical practice in Seattle, Wash., before moving his practice to Fort Worth in 1952.

He devoted his practice in east Fort Worth for the next 44 years to the many families he cared for, delivering hundreds of children who grew up in the Fort Worth area, before ending his medical career after 59 years in January 1996.

He was a charter member of the American Academy of Family Practitioners. He served on the board of the Longhorn Council, BSA, and was honored with the Silver Beaver Award for his dedicated service. He served on numerous other community and medical society boards. The Tarrant County Medical Society named their athletic trainers scholarship in his honor for the many nights he spent covering Fort Worth high school football games to care for injured youth.

Survivors: Wife, Marjorie Catherine Luke of Fort Worth; sons, Edward A. Luke Jr., D.O., of Fort Worth, Robert and his wife, Elaine Luke, of Arlington, and Charles Luke and his wife, Lory Garrett, of Gilbert, Ariz.; daughters, Marjorie and her husband, Sam Dick, of Fort Worth and Lezlie and her husband, James Peterson, of Castic, Calif.; sisters-in- law, Mary B. Garrard of Fort Worth and Margaret Ann Swearingen of Austin; niece, DeLee and her husband, Joseph Walker, of Fort Worth; six grandchildren; and numerous grandnieces and grandnephews.

SPRINGTOWN -- Willie Monroe Meadows, 73, who was disabled, died Saturday, August 2, 1997, in Corsicana.

Graveside service:4 p.m. Tuesday in Springtown Cemetery.

Mr. Meadows was born June 10, 1924, in Springtown, where he was reared. He had also lived in Wichita Falls and Corsicana for several years.

Survivors: He had no immediate family other than his sisters-in-law, Mrs. Beulah Meadows of Azle and Mrs. Margie Meadows of Burleson; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Lloyd Alton Murphy
MINERAL WELLS -- Lloyd Alton "Concrete" Murphy, 79, owner and operator of Murphy & Murphy Concrete Transit and Construction, died Sunday, Aug. 3, 1997, at a Mineral Wells hospital.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Mineral Wells. Burial: Woodland Parks Cemetery of Mineral Wells.

Lloyd Alton Murphy was born Nov. 11, 1917, in Fletcher, N.C. He was member of the First Baptist Church, the Mineral Wells Masonic Lodge No. 611, and Fort Worth Shrine Club. He was a World War II veteran.

Survivors: Wife, Jeanette Murphy; son, Terry Murphy and his wife, Nikki Cheryl Murphy; brother, Carlton Murphy; sisters, Allene Fryer and Mildred Hayes; and grandchildren, Terry Lann II and Bethany Lauren Murphy.

Betty Paschal was born Sept. 10, 1922, in Bonham. She was a member of University Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph A. Paschal and her son, Henry Kirk White III.

Survivors: Daughter, Toni Paschal of Fort Worth; granddaughter, Erin Tuggle of Fort Worth; and numerous nieces and nephews.

DECATUR -- Jessie Pearl Ragsdale, 87, a homemaker, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 1997, in Decatur.

Jessie Ragsdale was born March 5, 1910, in Decatur. She married George Wesley Ragsdale June 9, 1945, in Overton. He preceded her in death. She was a member of the Fundamental Church of Decatur.

Survivors: Step-son, George Ragsdale; and step-daughter, Loretta Shaffer.

James E. Smith
FORT WORTH -- James E. "Jim Edd" Smith, 80, a retired manager, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 1997, at a local hospital after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's diease.

James E. Smith was born in Bynum. He was married to Tommie M. Wade in May of 1941. He worked more than 20 years in the furniture department at Leonard's Department Store and retired from the Army-Navy Store of Haltom City in 1989. He was a longtime member of Riverside Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday school teacher and in the bus ministry. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His granddaughters were his pride and joy. He was devoted to his family, his work and his church and will sorely missed by those who loved him. Special thanks to his caregivers from Ariel Nursing Service.

Survivors: Wife, Tommie W. Smith of Fort Worth; daughters, Dr. Melodye S. Taylor and her husband, Dr. Scott C. Taylor and Marjorie Smith Elliott and her husband, Tommy R.
