Joyce Cambern Scott Smith

CARLSBAD, N.M. — Joyce Cambern Scott Smith, 91, died Saturday, March 14, 2012.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel in Pampa, Texas, with the Rev. Bob Banks, pastor of Straight Up Fellowship Church of Pampa, officiating. Cremation was by Denton-Wood Funeral Home in Carlsbad, and local arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa.

Mrs. Smith was born April 29, 1920, in Spearman, Texas. She married Dane Cambern on Sept. 14, 1938, in Santa Fe. He preceded her in death in 1975. She later married Cliff Scott on May 31, 1981. He preceded her in death in 2001. Joyce had a truly kind spirit and loving heart. She loved her family, she lived to dance and she also loved to travel. We will miss her deeply.

She also was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank, Fred and A. J. Womble; and five grandchildren, Melissa Shannon Cambern, Cheryl Louise Cambern, Matthew Grant Cambern, Doug Auwen and Catherine Diann Cambern.

Survivors include her husband, Al Smith of Carlsbad; five children, Dane Cambern and wife Rhonda of Sour Lake, Texas, Grant Cambern and wife Pauline of Amarillo, Texas, Kenny Cambern and wife Judy of Pampa, Sharon Martindale and husband David of Houston, and Cindy Harris and husband Rick of Pampa; a sister, Marciel Barber of Oklahoma City; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Carolyn Sansing Sommers

WALLIS, TX — Carolyn Sansing Sommers was born June 25, 1931 in Linden, TX. She was called home suddenly to be with the Lord on April 6, 2012. She is survived by her husband, A.D. Sommers, and was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. T.D. Sansing, and her first husband, J.F. McGehearty.

Carolyn graduated from Spearman High School in 1948. She attended Tarleton State University and graduated from The University of Texas in 1952 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Master Degree in 1956.

Carolyn was an elementary teacher for 36 years in Corpus Christi, Houston, Bellville, and California. She was an avid reader and her many interests included gardening, dancing, traveling, folk art painting and collecting special items.

Carolyn is survived by her husband, A.D. Sommers; sisters, Tynelle Jordan and husband David of Katy and Martha Coursey and husband Perry of Lubbock; stepsons, Mike McGehearty and wife Shirley of Bay City and grandchildren Kevin and Sarah, Pat McGehearty and wife Sylvia of Dallas and grandson, Eric and wife Heather; stepchildren, Augie Sommers, wife D.J. of Wallis and children, Annette Bertrand and husband Jesse of Orchard and children, Mike Sommers of Wallis, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family wishes to acknowledge and give special thanks to Andrea McMullien and Lidia Robles for their loving care of Carolyn while at home.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at Wallis United Methodist Church with Rev. Rick Walters officiating. Interment was at Wallis City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Clifford Sommers, Ronnie McCain, August Sommers, Jessie Bertrand, Gregory Jordan and Michael Sommers. Honorary pallbearers were Sharron Dolejsi and Grace Dolejsi.

William F.D. "Bill" Etling

GRUVER — William F.D. “Bill” Etling, 97, of Gruver died Friday, April 6, 2012.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church in Gruver with the Rev. Scott Curry officiating. Burial will be in Gruver Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman.

Bill was born Jan. 9, 1915, in Lewis, Kan. He came to Hansford County in 1917 at the age of 2. They moved to the “home place,” two miles south of the Oklahoma line, near Hitchland. He attended McBride School, 11 miles north of Gruver. He rode in a buggy or walked three miles before he was allowed to ride a horse to school. When his brother, Glendon “Buddy” Etling started school, their father bought a buggy for their transportation.

Bill attended McBride School through two years of high school and then transferred to Gruver after the two schools were consolidated. He finished high school in 1931 at the age of 16. There were five in his class — the second graduating class of Gruver High School. After staying home a year, he attended Panhandle A&M College in Goodwell, graduating in 1936 with a degree in economics. He married Maurine “Pinkie” DeBerry in 1937.

At age 27, he bought his first farm north of Gruver, which he always called “the poor farm.” In the 1950s, he started Etling Inc., the ammonia fertilizer business, and later sold it; the business became North Plains Chemicals.

Also in the 1950s, he bought an elevator in Bernstein and later purchased the Hitch Grain Elevator in Bernstein. He served on the Gruver School Board for 15 years, during which time his three children, Janice, Jim and Mary graduated from GHS. He served as president of the school board for 12 years, and as president, he signed all three of their diplomas. He was also treasurer of First Baptist Church for four years, member of the Hansford County Hospital district board and a trustee of the Gruver Cemetery board.

Bill continued to live in the home he and Pinkie built in 1965 until February 2012, when he went to Hansford Manor in Spearman. During the years since Pinkie died in 1983, he had very special caretakers. Kurt Etling, his nephew, was his business manager for 11 years. The family also would like to express gratitude to Sandi Foster, Gloria Perez, Virginia Taylor, Denis Rojas, Victoria Scroggins and others for providing care and companionship during those years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William F.C. Etling and Minda Etling; his wife, Maurine; and a brother, Glendon Etling.

Survivors include two daughters, Janice Adams and husband Robert of Gruver and Mary Batzel and husband Joe of Arlington; a son, Jim Etling and wife Judy of Newcastle; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a nephew, Kurt Etling of Gruver.

The family suggests memorials be to Gruver High School Alumni Scholarship Fund, in care of Gruver Independent School District, P.O. Box 650, Gruver, TX 79040

Jimmy Ray Castor

GRUVER — Jimmy Ray Castor of Haskell, Okla., died March 21, 2012.

Graveside services with military rites will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Gruver Cemetery in Gruver with the Rev. Gary Gumfory officiating. Arrangements are by Henson-Novak Funeral Directors of Guymon, Okla.

Mr. Castor was born May 22, 1939, in Coweta, Okla. Jim served in the Marine Corps from 1956 to 1959.

Survivors include his wife, Kay of Haskell; three sons, Russ Castor of Guymon and Kirt Castor and Kent Castor, both of Dallas; a daughter, Kelly Keenan of Dumas; a stepdaughter, Alana Wilson; two stepsons, Craig Wilson and “Cotton” Fields, both of Haskell; a brother, Ron Castor of Porter; two sisters, Carol Marlow of Haskell and Karen Batty of Jay; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to Humane Society or Don and Sybil Harrington Cancer Center Research, in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 1306, Guymon, OK 73942.

Ambrosia Torres Guerra

PLAINVIEW — Ambrosia Torres Guerra, 79, of Plainview died Sunday, March 25, 2012.

Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today in Bartley Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Plainview with the Rev. Raymundo Manriquez as celebrant. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Bartley Funeral Home of Plainview.

Mrs. Guerra was born Dec. 7, 1932, in Goliad to Gabriela Benitez and Julio Torres. She married Rosendo Guerra in 1954 in Victoria.

Survivors include four sons, Vincent Guerra, Julian Guerra and Albert Guerra, all of Plainview, and Henry Guerra of Hereford; four daughters, Yolanda Borrego of Hereford, Rosalinda Arroyos of Lubbock, Rebecca Anima of Spearman and Stella Guerra of Plainview; a brother, Gilbert Rivera of Victoria; two sisters, Janie Nieto and Vincenta Reyes, both of Victoria; 21 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Mary Hunt Johnson

SPEARMAN — Mary Hunt Johnson, 94, of Spearman, formerly of Childress, died Thursday, March 22, 2012.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Childress Cemetery with Jon Garnett officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman.

Mrs. Johnson was born March 20, 1918, in Childress. She married Carrol Hunt in 1935. He preceded her in death in 1969. She married Charlie H. Johnson in 1971. He died in 1989. She was a homemaker and a Methodist.

She also was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.

Survivors include two sons, Jerry Hunt and Tom Hunt, both of Gruver; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to Hansford Manor or Hansford Hospice, 707 S. Roland St., Spearman, TX 79081.

Earl Spencer

SPEARMAN — Earl Spencer, 73, of Spearman, died Tuesday, March 20, 2012.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at the First Christian Church of Spearman with Rev. Dan Kovaly and Rev. Danny Hendricks officiating. Interment was at Holt Cemetery, under the direction of Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman.

Earl was born in Texas County, MO on May 1, 1938. He married June Randall on December 19, 1964 in Spearman.

He was a member of the First Christian Church. He worked for KTM Drilling Co. in Guymon, OK for 11 years. Then he worked for Baker & Taylor Drilling Co. for many years, from 1976-1993. He worked for Delozier Welding and Speartex until his retirement in 2003.

Survivors include his wife, June Spencer of Spearman; a daughter, Earla Spencer of Amarillo; a son, Jeff Spencer of Kyle, TX; three brothers, Charles Spencer of Deepwater, MO, Carl Spencer of Graves Mill, MO and Carl Spencer of Greenville, MS; a sister, Vera Greer of Willis Springs, MO; three grandsons, Andrew Spencer of Omaha, NE, and Kyle Spencer and Michael Spencer of Kyle, TX; a granddaughter, Michelle Spencer of Kyle, TX; and a great-grandson, Randy Spencer of Kyle, TX.

Imogene Melton Molloy
MEMPHIS — Imogene Melton Molloy, 71, of Memphis died Sunday, March 18, 2012.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Church of Christ with Mark Lance officiating and Tom Anderson assisting. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements are by Hughs Funeral Home of Memphis.
Imogene was born April 14, 1940, in Turkey to the late Mr. Hubert Melton and Mrs. Lois Perkins Melton. She attended schools in Turkey. She married Roy Alvin Molloy on June 27, 1957, in McLean. He preceded her in death on Dec. 22, 1992.
Imogene was a homemaker and later went to work as a teller for 15 years at the Memphis State Bank until retiring in 2008. She loved playing golf and was a member of the Ladies Golf Association. She was also a member of Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by a son, John Michael Molloy, in 1962; and two brothers, Kenneth and Jerry Layne Melton.
Survivors include two sons, Chris Molloy and wife Jo Ann of Jacksboro and Stevie Molloy and wife Robin of Memphis; a sister, Barbara Reeves and husband Jim of Hurst; five grandchildren, Jeff Molloy and wife Tara of Morton, Benjy Molloy and wife Trisha of Spearman, Matt Molloy of Memphis, Holly Molloy of Amarillo and Renee Molloy of Memphis; and a great-grandchild soon to be.

Ingeborg Sogn
GUYMON, Okla. — Ingeborg Sogn, 98, of Guymon died Wednesday, March 14, 2012.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Oslo Lutheran Church with the Rev. Arlen Lloyd, pastor, officiating and Rev. Mark Wescoatt assisting. Burial will follow in Oslo Cemetery. Arrangements are by Henson-Novak Funeral Directors of Guymon.
Ms. Sogn was born Oct. 26, 1913, in Astor, Iowa, to Jesine Kristine Rasmussen Dahl and John O. Dahl. She was always involved in Oslo Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid.
Survivors include two daughters, Marie Niedens of Guymon and Kathryn Riggs of Lewisburg, Ky.; two sisters, Betsy Ward of Gruver, Texas and Doris Schibler of Eldorado, Ark.; seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Glenn “Buzzy” Russell
CLAYTON, N.M. — Glenn “Buzzy” Russell, 91, died Thursday, March 15, 2012.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in First United Methodist Church in Clayton with the Rev. Jay Jones and the Rev. Lynn Clay officiating. Burial will follow in Clayton Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements are by Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton.
Buzzy was born Oct. 5, 1920, in Dalhart, Texas, to Irving Russell and Mary Josie Russell. Buzzy got his name from his sister, Louise. When she tried to say “little brother,” she would always say “lil Buzzer,” which later became Buzzy. He attended school in Nara Visa and Tucumcari before graduating from Nara Visa High School in 1938.
Buzzy married Dora Payne Russell on Nov. 10, 1951, in the family home in Gallegos. Dora’s family was overjoyed that they finally had Buzzy in their family. Buzzy was always a cowboy. They lived and ranched near Nara Visa at the Coots Ranch and later moved to Spearman, where they worked with the Wilmeth Cattle Company, which later moved them to Texline.
Buzzy and Dora eventually bought the ranch and made Clayton their home.
Buzzy was also preceded in death by a son, Casey Glenn Russell, on April 13, 2005; a brother, Junie Russell; three sisters, Louise Stull, Mary Kanel and Martha Williams; and four brothers-in-law, Charles Payne, Bob Payne, Bert Stull and J.D. Frazier.
Survivors include his wife, Dora Russell of Clayton; a daughter, Cindy Russell of Clovis; four grandchildren, Hadley Gilbert and wife Kim, Mandy Gilbert and Miles Moulder and wife Angela, all of Clovis, and Amber Russell-Hart and husband Al of Henderson, Nev.; two great-grandchildren, Bryce Glenn Moulder and Ashton Presley Hart; a sister, Sara Jo Frazier of Lampasas, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Antonio "Tony" Hernandez
SPEARMAN — Antonio “Tony” Hernandez, 20, of Spearman died Tuesday, March 6, 2012.
Rosary was said from 7 to 8 p.m. March 8, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Services were at 1 p.m. Friday, March 9, 2012 in the church with the Rev. Gregory Bunyan officiating. Burial was in Hansford Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman.
Antonio was born April 4, 1991, in Los Angeles. He was a third-year physical therapy student at Frank Phillips College.
Antonio “Homie” Hernandez was a caring, lovable, nice person who everyone in Spearman loved. He will be missed. Bri Bri, we love you.
Survivors include his mother, Francisca Hernandez of Spearman; two brothers, Marcos Hernandez and wife Beatriz of Spearman and Oscar Hernandez and wife Betty of Miralona, Calif.; and a sister, Linda Renteria and husband Zachary of Spearman.

Tonya Denise Glassey Winborne
PAMPA — Tonya Denise Glassey Winborne, 34, of Pampa died Tuesday, March 6, 2012, in Amarillo.
Services wer at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 8, 2012 in Briarwood Church with the Rev. David Brown, pastor of Victory Church of Amarillo, officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa.
Mrs. Winborne was born Oct. 16, 1977, in Spearman. She has been a resident of Pampa for the past 18 years, moving from Fritch. She graduated from Pampa High School in 1996.
Mrs. Winborne married Freddy Winborne on June 8, 1996, in Pampa. She received her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from American InterContinental University in 2010. She was a former corrections officer at the Baten Unit.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Steve and Mary Glassey and A.M. and Donna McKinzie.
Survivors include her husband, Freddy Winborne of Pampa; two daughters, Skyler Winborne and Madison Winborne, both of Pampa; her parents, Clifford and Brenda Glassey of Pampa; two brothers, Keith Glassey and wife Theresa of Lathrop, Mo., and Casey Glassey of Lochbuie, Colo.; two sisters, Mary LaJohnna Glassey of Perryton and Starla Ennis and husband Morgan of Amarillo; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Mary Mock
CLAYTON, NM — Mary Mock, 47, died Tuesday, March 6, 2012, in Clayton, NM.

Mary Mock was born on November 15, 1964 in Winnemucca, Nevada to John Bertie Cator and Helen Josephine (Sywilok) Cator. She married David Mock on March 16, 2002 in Borger, Texas. David and Mary lived and ranched in Morse, Texas for several years. They moved to Clayton after David’s father died earlier this year. Mary enjoyed helping and donating to the High Plains Food Bank. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, a brother-in-law; Darrel Mock and by her mother-in-law; Vernie Jo Mock and father-in-law; Billie Mock.
Survivors include her husband, David Mock of Clayton, New Mexico.

Hetty Jo Tucker Bynum
Hetty Jo Tucker Bynum, beloved wife and mother, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 4, 2012.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 7, 2012, in First Baptist Church Chapel with Dr. Howard K. Batson and the Rev. Chester O’Brien officiating. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery. A memorial service will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 8, 2012, in Ware Living Center in the upstairs dining room with Alan Williamson officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Hetty Jo was born on May 30, 1924, in Burkburnett, Texas, to Alva Josephine Huey Tucker and James Howard (Bud) Tucker. Her grandfathers J.T. Huey and C.S. Tucker were two of 13 founding families of Wichita Falls, Texas. The Huey family came to Texas by wagon train from Tennessee and donated land for a school and park, Huey Elementary School, in Wichita Falls.
Hetty Jo moved with her parents from Earlsboro, Oklahoma, at age 10 to Pampa, Texas. At age 14, she began working in her father’s bakery, Puritan Bakery, one of the first commercial bakeries in Pampa. She was walking home from the bakery when the huge dust storm hit Pampa in April 1935.
She graduated from Pampa High School in 1944. Moved to Oklahoma City, Okla., and worked at Armour’s Meat Packing in the Bacon Dept. as a boxer.
She married I.R. (Dick) Bynum on September 23, 1951, at Pampa First Baptist Church. They moved from Oklahoma City to Amarillo in the spring of 1952.
She worked at Blackburn Bro’s Dept. Store as head cashier from 1968 until retirement in 1986. Then she assisted her husband with his Trailways Tour Office.
Hetty Jo supported her husband in various church and community services. She worked as Sunday school director at Pierce Street Baptist Church and Trinity Baptist Church. She was also active in W.M.U., served as teacher for G.A.’s, Children’s Primary Choir, and Vacation Bible School. She was a member of F.B.C. and Hephzibah Sunday School class. She had strong faith in God, was a faithful prayer warrior and a helpmate to her husband.
She enjoyed extensive travels with her family and friends in U.S. and abroad. She loved sewing, crafts, floral arranging, reading, holidays and family gatherings.
Hetty Jo was preceded in death by her parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, I.R. and Hattie Lee Bynum; husband, I. R. (Dick) Bynum; sisters, Bonnie Grissom of Colorado and Marilyn Marie Haluska of New York; brother, Jimmie Tucker of Pampa; niece, Jamie Kathleen Tucker; brothers-in-law, John Miller, LeRoy Thomas, Carlos Grissom, Phillip Bynum, Elmer Bynum, Ralph Bynum; sister-in-law, Amy Bynum; and nephews, Joe Howard Grissom, Rocky Bynum and Ricky Bynum.
The family wishes to thank nurse Vanessa and staff at Ware Nursing Home and BSA Hospice nurse Wendy for their care of our mom.
She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Gregg and Liz Bynum of Amarillo; daughter, Bonita Blackstock of Amarillo; granddaughter and husband, Heather and Brian Bailey of Amarillo; great-grandchildren, Graham Richardson Bailey and Anna Elise Bailey of Amarillo; sisters, Patsy Ruth Thomas of Joliet, IL and Dolores June Miller of Littleton, Colo.; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Joseph and Nita Bynum of Spearman; CloAnn Bynum of Dumas; Paul and Julie Bynum of Silsbee, Texas; Beth and Gary Westberry of Adel, Georgia; and Frankie Herman of Miami, Texas; Bob Haluska of New York; Janice Tucker of Pampa; and 21 nieces and nephews.
